The café is located underneath the Brome Lake Bookstore and can be accessed via the outside or through the bookstore itself. For those of you are familiar with Louise Penny, brilliant author of the Inspector Gamache series, you'll feel right at home in Three Pines as you enter this cozy space. If you look hard enough you just might see Gabri or Olivier, or even Ms Penny herself. When you walk over to the counter, you'll be greeted by one of the lovely staff and then your eyes will be drawn to the menu, and the heavenly aroma of baked goods and freshly brewed coffee. To your right is a station with napkins and cream for your coffee, and don't forget to look up at the container of jelly beans with paper muffin cups alongside, in case your sweet tooth doesn't get sated enough. I forgot to ask why there weren't any licorice pipes but I'm thinking they're not easy to find anymore. Lots of cozy sofas and chairs dot the café so you can enjoy your goodies, and a couple of "fireplaces" on either side of the space adds to the warmth of the atmosphere, although they don't generate real warmth unless you use your imagination. I will be back again before leaving town just because it brings Three Pines to life and there's always that possibility Louise Penny will drop by. If you happen to be in Quebec Province and travelling from Montreal to Quebec City or vice versa, there are several towns you might stop in to get a cross sectional sample of history, from Chambly, a synthetic, plant and just add water instant suburb in the middle of a corn field, to Cowansville and Waterloo, Bromont and Shefford, places that are seeing tradition eclipsed by suburban sprawl, are still mainly agricultural, and are seeing some hard times, but as they will tell you, hard times are nothing new for these towns that started as pioneer settlements four centuries ago. In any case, to get a sense of all this, I would recommend stopping in at the local boulangerie in any of these towns, getting an elaborate pastry such as tartelette aux fruits, milles feuilles, napoleon, paris-brest, chocolatine or just an eclair with a great cup of coffee, capuccino, espresso, tea, or your choice of caffeinated beverage, and look out the window as people walk by and take you through a story both fascinating and sad at the same time. If you can, buy a loaf of bread to take with you, and if you are feeling forgetful you might neglect to realize this until you are safely back at home.

With the double door, it feels like entering someone's place, maybe like visiting a friend's house. They are very friendly, I was greeted the moment I entered with the most gracious smile from the barista. The seated places are limited and the sockets even more. There's even old plugs that isn't compatible. The sun was shining right through the front window which felt really nice but I could't see my computer. Maybe the places in front of it are not the best suited for someone working on a computer. I ordered a Macchiato which I enjoyed. The cup was warmed up and felt so good during the very cold, freezing day. There was all kinds of treats on the counter, cookies, brownies and stuff which all seemed so decadent and delicious. I believe they are homemade. They also have paninis, soups and stuff. I will definitely go back to try them as the place smelled amazing the whole time I was there.
