It's such a lovely area and in case you forget your cell phone, there's a handy Bell phone booth on the premises before you go into the restaurant. Having grown up in Montreal, this was like going home and entering the warm and welcoming Quebequois eatery. The big screen tv was on, and above it were Montreal Canadiens' hockey shirts. I saw they had an extra room off to the left of the entrance for additional customers. We were immediately seated at a bench in the main part of the restaurant facing the kitchen and provided menus. Since my French was rusty I did my best "Franglais" but the ladies were bilingual so we all ordered. The food was delicious and plentiful, just like I remembered. They both ordered as their main dish the Bœuf Bolton, which was served with carrots, potatoes, Montréal spices. Their meat was tender, but slightly dry, in my opinion and the carrots needed a bit more cooking as they were a bit too raw (could not cut into them). The meat was a generous portion. I ordered the Moules Frites special: $25CA for 2lbs of steamed mussels (ordered one of your ways), herbed french fries. It was very good. A maple butter for the fruit was absolutely amazing, but no way to eat all of it and I felt bad for the wastage of something so delicious. Two hours before we were due to check in, they called and told us they had overbooked and could not honor our reservation! They did help to find us other accommodations: for the same price they found a place that was in absolutely no way comparable 20 miles away. The poor desk clerk was left to deal with us. The "Director" at Auburge do Joli Vent would not make eye contact with us or speak to us. We had traveled all the way across the continent to be in Knowlton and our vacation plans were totally destroyed. We lost half a day just arguing with them and getting other vastly inferior accommodations. The compensation for our trouble: They offered us a cup of coffee!
