    Chicken Marsala

Chicken Marsala was great! The sauce was some of the best I've ever had. Will definitely be going back there. The service was quick and we loved the atmosphere of the bar.

Overall, it offered a unique experience, though not without a few drawbacks. To start, the appetizers were fantastic. We shared the beef tartare, mussels, and crab rangoon. The beef tartare stood out for its flavor, though the accompanying baguette was slightly stale. Despite that, the appetizers were the highlight of the meal. For soup, we sampled the French onion, which was met with mixed reviews--decent, but not particularly memorable. The main courses included kangaroo, venison, fish and chips, and duck. While the chef's talent for creating flavorful dishes was evident, all the meats were unfortunately overcooked. This may have been due to the challenge of preparing multiple meals at once, as we were informed that there was only one chef in the kitchen. The restaurant itself boasts a charming and homey ambiance that enhances the dining experience. Service was friendly and accommodating, with no issues on that front. A standout feature of the menu was the inclusion of kangaroo--a rare find, especially in Vermont. While it's worth trying for the novelty, be prepared for its distinctively high iron content, which imparts a metallic flavor that may not appeal to everyone. In conclusion, this restaurant offers a unique and enjoyable experience despite a few missteps. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop for those visiting the Jay area. Just keep in mind that the kitchen's limitations may impact larger parties or more complex orders. If you're feeling adventurous, give the kangaroo a try--you likely won't find it anywhere else nearby!

We ordered the antelope Swedish balls, French onion soup, and firecracker beef. Most of the food wasn't great - the antelope Swedish meatballs were the best of the 3. The French onion soup had too much thyme and a very watery broth. The firecracker beef was offensive!! It has a warning that it's very spicy (which is true), but it was a really strange dish! I expected an Asian inspired spicy beef dish over rice, but we got a hot sauce drenched rice bowl. Allegedly there was beef in it, but there was really no texture or flavor other than hot sauce! To clarify to the owner comment - we did tell our server we didn't like it, and that it was not due to the spice - it was due to the gross flavor. She simply said "oh I haven't heard that one" and did not offer to take it off the bill or replace it. Now the drinks and desserts were fantastic! We loved our seasonal cocktails, and we ordered two desserts and polished them off. The maple chomeur was drenched in sauce and so good - we actually poured the remaining sauce over our apple warm too! I loved the fresh apples in the tart since there was some texture. Service was also very good from the front desk to our server.

Needless to say, the place was booked solid, and I was very happy to have made my reservation 11 months prior to avoid the "dynamic pricing" others were experiencing throughout the region. It is very conveniently located right off of the I-87 exit and is surrounded by numerous shopping and dining options. Our room was ready when we arrived at 3:30 and check in was fast and easy. The rooms themselves are slightly smaller and laid out differently than a standard Holiday Inn Express, and I suspect this property was converted from another brand. All that said, the rooms were comfortable and clean. The pool was a nice area to kill some time in, and the exercise room was appointed well enough to meet all but the most serious gym-rat's needs. The staff here was outstanding. Despite being absolutely stuffed to the gills with guests, they went out of their way to make sure everything was stocked, clean and ready to go. When I was in the lobby waiting for my food delivery the first night, I watched the poor woman behind the desk greet 3 customers who drove in off the street looking for a room and answer phone calls from several more. She answered all of their questions patiently and with a smile. Not once did, "of course there are no rooms left in this small college town that is in the path of totality the night before the eclipse, you cueball brained nimrod!" come out of her mouth, and that's significantly better than I would have fared if placed in the same situation all day long. I'm not sure if and when I'll be back in the Plattsburgh area, but if I am, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Is black tea too expensive and that's why the guests only get green tea?? (even though there was black tea days prior). We are paying $274 a night to be here for a week. That's a lot of money to pay to have to ask for black tea. -Very understaffed in the restaurant at night. I felt bad for the staff, they were trying so hard (except the host, she didn't try at all). -I talked to another guest who had lots of complaints and was on her FOURTH room because she kept having to switch due to issues. -The mini-fridge froze like half the food, (and no I did not put it in the freezer section). -Housekeeping was not prompt (would come around 3pm when we were back in the room to work remotely on a different time zone). -One of the self-service washing machines is SO loud you can literally hear it from 2 floors down. -The free kayaking is closed for the season while the other kayak rental in town is still operating...That was not clear when booking. The first day we were there, it was 85 degrees F and lots of people were out kayaking. It would have been nice to know that that wasn't going to be included. So overall, I would not recommend staying here.
