I went here for the first time and I had never heard of it before. It is super close to my house and a really nice walk down wasson way. The inside is small but nice, and it smells so good in there! I got two donuts, a boston creme and a long john. They were so good, fresh and light and super yummy. They were very sugary, but what did I expect its a donut haha! Generally I'd say a Busken Bakery is a Busken Bakery, but... I pretty much only got to Busken to pick up Schnecken during the holidays. Ordering online is easy. Picking up at the Madison Road location is not so much. Getting in to the parking lot is a challenge, but add to it what seems like a thousand others coming in at the same time to pick up their holiday orders and well... it' a bit of a zoo. Next, there seem to be so many places to go to pick things up. I'm sure I missed something, but there didn't appear to be signs that headed me to the correct place for schnecken pickup. As a result, I was kinda here and there before I got to the right spot. The schnecken is spot on fantastic, so it's worth it? No, it is. This year I went to the Highland Heights location and all I can say is it was SO much easier and much less stressful. We lived in California for seven years and had it delivered, so yeah... I've never physically been inside this Busken BUT I've had it brought to the office many many times! In fact, because my coworkers bring it so often I've found it easier to just rely on them! This location is closest to our job and easiest to access, yay! Now as far as the desserts themselves I could eat those tea cookies all day. Like allllll day! Just a simple treat, but so delicious! I've also enjoyed a donut or two... or three (no shame!). Everything in those boxes are so good! Around Thanksgiving a coworker brought in some rolls as well, yum yum yum! Thanksgiving is next week and I wanted to get some Buskin "Butter Bits" dinner rolls. They were in stock Saturday but we were advised finding them next week would be tricky. I've heard about Busken Bakery so much over the years living in Cincinnati but I somehow never visited one or tried any of their baked goods. I decided to finally check them out on Christmas Eve last year. I was psyched they were open seeing as I was in need of some cupcakes on the fly and wanted to get something unique and special. Unique and special is exactly the kind of baked goods Busken seems to specialize in. I found the most absolutely adorable Christmas themed cupcakes there. They were so cool. They were very fairly priced as well, which I wasn't expecting. You could tell the staff there had had a pretty busy and hectic morning that morning, but everybody was in great spirits and were super friendly and helpful in assisting me in picking out the perfect cupcakes for the occasion. And let me tell you, these cupcakes were absolutely delicious. So rich and sweet. They were so cool looking we all felt bad eating them..but oh man were they tasty. Now that I've experienced Busken once I'm hooked. I can't wait to go back and try more of what they have to offer. And will definitely think of them next time I'm in need of some baked goods for a party or event. read more

I had a nice time visiting Busken Bakery when I was visiting Cincinnati. Per usual, I was overwhelmed with all the choices at the bakery. It sounds like I need to be a little more decisive ha ha. Anyhow, the ladies working were very patient with me and nice. I ended up purchasing several of the bulk cookies, a Joe Biden Cookie and a cupcake! Some of the baked goods the bakery had were cookies, brownies, donuts, muffins, cupcakes, and coffee cake so there are plenty morning pastry options and desserts! There are the iconic iced smiley face cookies as well. I enjoyed my cupcake. It was only a dollar and it was a nice vanilla cupcake with tasty buttercream icing. The bulk cookies were A-Ok. I did not eat the Biden cookie since it was a gift for a friend but I was amused by the presidential cookie poll. I think the cookie poll is such a fun event! This week I learned that there are pączky (the best filled doughnuts in the world), and then there are Busken pączky. I don't know why it took me so long to try their version of the Polish pre-Lent treat, but I want to let others benefit from my enlightenment. I tried the chocolate and the custard. The custard was definitely made with eggs, but didn't have any eggy flavor - just a rich creaminess and wonderful vanilla flavor. The other just added chocolate to that rich creaminess. Because so much sugar fell off of the custard one, I preferred the glaze on the chocolate one, but that's a minor point. My experience here was weird. I'm from Cbus, so I have no idea what Busken is. I see it at Kroger and other stores all the time so I assume it is a Cincinnati classic. When my friend and I walked in here, no one helped us. The workers kinda just stood there and stared, literally. Not a hello just a stare. I then asked what their most popular item was. They said they're donuts. When I asked what flavors she said all of them. Okay? Not super helpful. When I proceeded to look at the donuts, there were no labels or signs anywhere, so I didn't know what most things were. I would ask her occasionally, but was picking up the vibes she was annoyed so I just settles on the cinnamon sugar twist. I came in with intention of trying a cookie, but once again with no signs, I didn't know what they were. The donut was alright. Not outstanding but not bad. Buskin used to be one of my favorite place for doughnuts. For years I've enjoyed a doughnut at least once a week. Something recently has changed. I'm not sure what they've done but all the doughnuts now taste like burnt oil and have a harsh fried taste. The pastries now leave a bad taste in my mouth for hours after eating them. These cookies have lots of childhood memories for me. Whenever there was a fundraiser at middle school, people were selling their classic smiley face sugar cookies. So they still hold a place in my heart. Their sugar cookie is different from most others I've had. They have the thickness of the crappy ones you see at grocery stores, but the firmer texture of a normal sugar cookie. And my favorite part is the thick layer of glaze they put on top. Grocery store grade bakery. Actually, Kroger is better. I've been here multiple times because it's the only bakery open and because my mom makes me go. Everything I've tried has been too sweet. Cupcakes were stale. Cranberry muffin was too sweet. Cookies are horribly dense and hard, we threw them out they were so bad. The only thing I like ok are the donuts (without the frosting). In Cleveland, I would liken this place to Giant Eagle grade bakery. It's the worst I've had. Prices are also insane. They charge $4 for one large cookie. The mini cakes, which are about the size of a large muffin and decorated shoddily are $7. The majority of people who I see in there are seniors. They seem to like it. The only plus is they are open 24/7. So if you are desperate for literally any bakery at 3am, this is your place. read more

We have been wanting to come here forever and yesterday, we just couldn't take it anymore. You know those cartoon smell lines? Well they finally got us. When you drive by this location all you smell is glaze. And it smells MAGICAL! Enter and it's really not all that different from any other location. A large cookie area where you can purchase their famous iced cookies, a bread/baked good section, a java counter and finally a donut case. These were some of the freshest donuts I have ever had. They come out at 3:00 in the morning and 3pm in the afternoon. So if you are looking to catch them fresh there's a tip ;) We got there about an hour after they were just out of the over. The glistening glaze stared at us from behind the counter like a 14ct. engagement ring whispering "EAT ME." We ordered up two glazed, one jelly filled and one cinnamon roll for good measure. To be honest, I was not fond of the Busken donut. I felt like it was flat and kind of airy. I actually prefer a puffier, denser donut (that shall not be named) but for those of you that like donuts, there was a great selection and they were very fresh. Definitely, SHOULD NOT BE MISSED if you are visiting Cincinnati. This place surely makes one of the best, if not best, donuts in the area. It is a 24 hours bakery but the best time would be during the day when the items are absolutely fresh and you see more options as well. The peculiarity about the donuts and other bakery items here is that aesthetically they are not at all appealing, except for few. However, in terms of taste, they are absolutely delicious. Their Old Fashioned donut is definitely to be tried. Apart from that, we tried few other items like Coconut Danish, Samoa donut and muffins like the Zucchini Nut and Applesauce Raisin. We have tried danish at many places but this Coconut Danish is the first danish we actually liked. Samoa donut was amazing and the toasted coconut was giving a very good crunch to the donut. While Zucchini Nut was great, Applesauce Raisin had a heavy flavor of cinnamon which kind of shielded the other ingredients. It was also slightly more on the gooey side. In general, for the donuts, they are just in a perfect balance - not so crumbly that it breaks and not so gooey that you have a hard time breaking it properly. However, I am not a fan of their coffee. You won't miss anything if you skip it. We love this place, especially for the kind of amazing donuts they make, keeping aside the aesthetics, and a great price. Most of the donuts are between $2-$3. Even though it's located in a congested and busy area on Madison road, I think it has the best selection of baked goods. They are fresh (especially the donuts)! I haven't been to a Busken's in awhile. I needed to bring a dessert to a dinner party and thought of Busken. I bought Blueberry Crumb Cake for only $6.50 (enough to feed 6 people). Pricing is very reasonable. Buskens has it all! Cookies, Breads, Coffee Cakes, Pies, Donuts, Cakes for every occasion, coffee, and catering for lunch and breakfast.
