I've been meaning to write this review!! We went to Frederick a month ago and happened to stop here for dinner on a Monday. When we decided to go in and take a look to eat it was pretty early 5 pm ish and there were a couple of people at the bar. Tables were empty except for a two top. I've worked in an Irish pub and this was typically the same feel as others. I've been in the restaurant business for years so I have an understanding of what can be not such a great experience be it food or service so I must say I can be hastily judgmental at times. I was sure about the place. With that said ..... my husband and I sat down and eventually we were approached by a nice young fella who brought us menus. He was taking care of the other table, but came right back to take a drink order. He was really friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on draft as the one I had asked for wasn't on tap. We then ordered two of their burgers. The Irish bacon burger and The Bleu burger. We casually mentioned that we also share our food together and that was all he needed to know as it was delivered half and half with extra sides that matched what we asked for. Soon the other staff were on the floor and we were taken care of by at least two servers. Again they were efficient and really fun. Monday nights at Bushwallers is trivia night and the place started filling up with all kinds of people. It was this delightful feeling of the community neighborhood getting together to eat and enjoy some fun with trivia. We absolutely loved the burgers. Cooked perfectly ( med rare) ! I was sad as we had to leave that night and couldn't stay for the trivia game. All I can say is I sure wish I lived in this town. Our experience at Bushwallers was exceptional ! I'd love to give this 6 stars, but 5 will have to do. My wife and son and I visited Bushwaller's during the Fire and Ice festival in downtown Frederick. This was our first time in, but most definitely won't be our last. What looked like a typical pub from the outside turned out to be a delightful afternoon - we had sliders, wings, Irish nachos, and the star of the show, the Irish onion crock. All the food was outstanding! We also had some delicious adult beverages and my wife had the Cookie Monster martini which was decadent. Our experience this afternoon also included excellent service. James looked after us and was attentive, had good suggestions, and made sure we had everything we needed. Server is wonderful. But an Irish bar playing rap....very odd. Have not yet tried the food. Though I'm quite tempted by the oysters. Be for a trans girl alone...probably not the best idea. We came in today on a visit to old town Frederick. We were inspired to go here since we saw it on 90 Day Fiancé. The building was old and it had a nice old Irish pub feel to it. My wife and I split the fish and chips which were huge, the order came with 2 giant pieces, nicely battered and tons of fries. I don't like to post negative reviews during the pandemic but honestly, they sent me the worst Ruben I've ever eaten yesterday. I ordered 2 of them for delivery, as well as a kids meal. The rye bread had no taste and an odd texture. I suspect it was previously frozen. The corned beef was bland and super tough. I don't think I've ever had tough corned beef before! The accompanying fries were also bland, and limp. Reheating in the oven couldn't save them. Husband came home and after a few bites of his Ruben, he proclaimed it was terrible. I'd never even said to him how bad mine was. The shepherd pie was flavorful and my little enjoyed it. The portion was large enough to make two meals for a little kid. read more

Stopped ordering from Bushwaller's a year ago. Today, I decided to order from them, through Grub Hub. I wrote directions for what I want that their cook didn't read. I asked for a cup of chili with saltine crackers also 6 wings. Wings were fine but no napkins with order, no saltine crackers, no spoon. Food was good but not worth ordering again if they can't add items that should be automatic with every order! I guess the only way to get what you want is to visit in person. read more

Downtown Frederick is so cute, you guys. I had no idea, I just keep driving through on the way to hikes and stopping at the Sheetz on the outskirts, but downtown is super cute. Anyways, we found out about the cuteness of Frederick when we went to check out Frederick Restaurant Week. There were some really great deals going on all over but Andy B. selected Bushwaller's based on our pescatarian diet and general cravingssss. Off the Restaurant Week special menu (which they brought over without having to ask for it - I hate when restaurants participate in Restaurant Week but hide the ball), we had: - crab and corn chowder - pretzel with crab dip - empanadas (served with a delicious mushroom risotto and asparagus!) - lobster mac n' cheese - strawberry shortcake - whiskey cake (?) Everything was tasty but the pretzel with crab dip was sinfully indulgent and the risotto that was served with the empanadas was so so good. The desserts were mostly just okay but we were also super full by then. All in all, I would definitely come back to Bushwaller's - it has a great beer selection and is the Irish pub that Rockville is kinda missing. Bushwaller's is your typical dive bar. Not at all fancy and a bit grungy with sports on the TV, dart boards and activities to entertain locals (trivia and karaoke nights).We we're traveling through on a Monday and most restaurants in Frederick were closed so to be honest Bushwaller's would not have been my first choice, however, I found the food to be decent. Shepherds pie served in a cannonball loaf was excellent. We also had the shrimp appetizer that did not disappoint. 8 large shrimp with a sweet (but hot) chili dipping sauce. Washed it all down with a few pints of Guinness on nitro and a Kilkenny Irish cream ale on nitro. If your not looking for haute cuisine Bushwaller's fits the bill read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. My husband ordered to-go and picked the food up on his way home from work. i ordered fish and chips, and received only the fish. i had a side of cole slaw which i didnt receive. My husbands bangers and mash was complete. we rea uzed this as soon as we got home and didn't want to turn around to drive back. they need to have a system that checks that orders are complete! We went for restaurant week and the food was amazing from start to finish! I had the crab pretzel, crab stuffed fish with broccoli and an apple cake desert. My hubby had the steak and cheese egg roll, fish and chips, and the cheesecake for dessert. We both loved every bite! Our server was wonderful as well. Every server checked on us or bussed the table which is nice to see-teamwork means it's a nice place to work. Ordered takeout from them recently. Very very good. I got the shrimp po boy and my husband the fish and chips, we shared the cheese curds! Takeout was still crispy! Nothing was soggy. I came here to have a relaxed night with my friend to watch the super bowl. We were soon approached by a not so sober person and the bartenders were so nice and asked if we were okay and if we weren't, they would ask him to leave. I'm retired and set up a lunch for a group of my former co-workers. After reading lots of reviews, I decided to try Bushwaller's. Man, I'm glad I did. The lunch menu was great and all of my friends loved it. I highly recommend the Irish Stew! The service was also outstanding. Great food, great service - you can't ask for more than that. It doesn't say that in the description and I get that they are in Maryland and Old Bay is popular here but on Fish and Chips, gross. Second the fish was just really greasy and not very flaky. We stumbled onto Bushwaller's when we were in Frederick to got a specific store and wanted to grab something inexpensive to eat before we headed back. I ordered the fish and chips which overall, were very good. The fish came out super hot, flakey, light, and the perfect crispness. However, the fries had definitely been cooked prior and were nowhere near as hot. Additionally, the oil definitely needs to changed which resulted in some of the fries being burnt to the point of being inedible. My mom ordered the french onion soup and the reuben. She didn't say much about the soup so I am assuming it was just okay. The corned beef on the reuben was definitely made there and it fell apart as she ate - huge plus! The on-tap beer selection was varied and they weren't afraid of having smaller breweries there. Additionally, our server was excellent and I still can't figure out how she handled the full dining room, being the only server working at 3pm on a Sunday. The other big downside was the condition of the bathrooms. When I went in to use the ladies room, I felt like I was walking into my favorite dive bar in college . Being that I am ten years out of school, I am no longer looking for that dive bar feel. A quick remodel of the bathroom could greatly improve the customer opinion of the place. I will probably be back, as I want to bring my younger brother. The whole feel of the place reminded me of many places he enjoyed while living in Milwaukee. read more

Quality and appearance of the food is exceptional. Delicious! We were spending a weekend afternoon in Frederick and originally were looking at the more posh places nearby but were disappointed. We wandered in and just hoped for some comfort food on a cold afternoon. We ordered three dishes - each one was easily the best I've had of that dish, beautiful in presentation, and reasonably priced. We tried to play darts...but there is only one set of three and the "wings" were falling off. But then a band came in...so darts was out...LOL. I thought the place smell like dirty dish rags. I found the bartenders to be nice and attentive. I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was good but the sweet potato fries were not great. When ordering fries, stick to the regular ones! There was a band there. They honestly took 2 hours to set up, "tune" their equipment, and said "check 1,2" a ton of times. My rating isn't solely based on the band. More so the overall feel of the place. read more

The food was very underwhelming. Scotch Eggs we not good, contrary the waitress' exuberant assurance they were good. The yolk had a green ring around it, the sausage was not even identifiable as sausage (husband did not even realize that it was sausage) it was so thin with breadcrumbs. Over fried to a very dark brown. The dog my husband got, he reported was no good at all. The burger was not medium rare at tough. Turns out Irish Bacon=Canadian Bacon=Ham. The fries were very good. Stopped in here after wanting to try the place for a while. Smells kinda bad on the inside, but whatever. It was a Sunday evening (football season) and they only had one bartender and one waitress for the whole joint. The waitress was nice enough and apologetic about the circumstance, but really, one server for football night at a bar? It took forever to get my food, and when I did get it, it was the wrong order and had to be sent back so I had to wait even longer. The saving grace to this place is the food. The Irish Nachos were incredible, and I'd come back for those alone. My "Irish Burger" was so-so; it would have been great without whatever house sauce they put on it. And the servings were huge, so I can't complain. Looking for a dive bar with sticky menus and tables, a waitress with a major attitude then this is your place. Only reason for 2 stars vs 1 is the drinks were pretty good. Just don't expect cleanliness or a very good atmosphere! Sign said seat yourself only to be told we might have to move after we picked our seat if a larger party comes in, yet we only had about a half hour anyway because our table was gonna be taken away for the band. You would think that close to showtime if that was the case they would have removed the table long before hand so someone wasn't in the middle of their meal and having to be asked to get up. So with all that, instead of drinks and dinner we had 1 and done. Found a great, clean and very welcoming place up the street. Won't be back!! read more

My boyfriend had been there before and enjoyed it. But upon eating the bangers and mash said something changes. The sausages are way too spicy. The same was in my daughters stew which made it almost inedible. The service was good. The atmosphere is nice. So we visited Bushwaller's again on a busy Friday night and it was amazing!! Even though it was very busy and crowded, the staff managed to find my boyfriend and I a table. I ordered the crab pretzel which was so delicious that it may be my new favorite appetizer. He ordered the crab and corn chowder which he said was satisfying as well. For our entrees, he ordered the bangers and mash that he found very tasty but he had to box the rest. I ordered the pot pie and it was also delicious! The pastry to meat ratio was perfect - I also had to box it up. Probably the absolutely best part was our server Liv! She was so friendly and engaging! My boyfriend's half-and-half drink was always replaced with a refill and she constantly checked on us despite the many other diners. It's rare to find people in the service industry that are genuine and Liv really was! We will definitely visit again soon! read more

Stopped in Frederick for lunch as we were passing through one Sunday, and found this Irish Pub along the main street of Frederick. They had a special on their reuben sandwich, so we ordered those and we really enjoyed them. As another reviewer said, this has to be one of the better reuben sandwiches around. The corned beef definitely seemed homemade, and it was very lean. Had the traditional sauerkraut, cheese, and thousand island dressing. Just a wonderful gooey middle with grilled swirl rye bread on both sides. Our waiter took pretty good care of us - checking for refills on tea, water, etc... and we really liked sitting outside in their street dining area. It was a beautiful sunny day, but it was amply shaded in their seating area. Will definitely keep this in mind next time we are in Frederick, but then it will be do I want to try something else from their menu, or get the reuben again? read more
