    Definite diner feel in here.
    Matthew U.

While on the road I needed to find a quick place to grab a small bite to eat. I was on my way to Baltimore for a wedding and knew that later that day I would be having a decent meal and didn't want to overeat for lunch. When I got to this exit I checked out the sign to see what was offered and decided that this would be good enough. Pulling up here you could tell that this was a different BK than what the newer ones are. This was old school 90s at its best. Everything in it screamed their retro diner look they strived for. Including the old style sunroom. Of course I decided that a faux chrome table top with sea foam green and faded pink seat in the sunroom to dine at. The food was what I expected, what I grew up with. The bright shining spot here was the staff. They were very attentive to each customer's needs and willing to go that extra mile to satisfy the customer. When you hear about a place that is nice, it's like one of those urban legend things, but it really happened here. But what made me really enjoy this place was that retro 90s diner look. Complete with that neon everywhere. I know this is a chain, but this location really made it their own.

Stopped here for a late lunch on the way home from Baltimore to Haymarket, VA. As I got onto I-95 South in Baltimore, WTOP Radio was reporting multiple accidents on I-495 Capital Beltway and I-66, so I thought I would totally avoid that area. So I took a slightly longer route home: I-95 South to I-695 West to I-70 West - and then onto U.S. 15 South to Haymarket. I've never driven I-70 before. Turns out to be a nice, rural, scenic drive as interstates go. On the way, I realized I had not eaten breakfast or lunch, so I got off in Mount Airy and hit a Burger King. I went with the Fish Sandwich, add cheese and onions, no fries, and a bottle of water. The sandwich was made to order and came out piping hot with the cheese nicely melted onto the fish filet. I was so hungry I wolfed it down in no time. Was good as fast food sandwiches go! Service was good, dining area was reasonably clean!

Got a Chi'King from there. Tasted like fish. Never had chicken before that was fried in fish oil. Not a fan. 1/5

Fantastic service! Very fast and clean, great decor for a Burger King. Best BK service I've had in a long time. Saturday morning 10 am.

With warmer weather and things opening, we ate inside for the first time last week and loved the vibe inside. Great seating space and friendly staff! Some of our favorites are the Chesapeake Burger, burgers in general, the chili cheese dog (split grilled!) and the fried pickles! Some are hit or miss; some like Cryin' Johnnies are very good. Have had several of their hot dogs and flavor wise they do not suck. My go to has always been the Chicago dog. The don't use Vienna Beef dogs but Dietz and Watsons aren't bad. They also don't use poppy seed buns so the taste is a bit different. Tonight I ordered two (missed breakfast and lunch - sue me!). I had to order sport peppers (one of the defining flavors of a real Chicago dog) which was a surprise, the celery salt was missing, and the dogs themselves were cold. May have been the weather, may have been the ride home, but definitely cold. Good taste though (did I mention D&W?). I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because I've really enjoyed them in the past. May update - or even delete - this post the next time they come to our 'hood. One this is for sure: I will eat from the CJ folks in the future.

The chicken gyro was pronounced good The menu is wide, the selections were all good other than the fries. A great place to visit for an end-of-week night out! The desserts were good. The servers work hard and are always attentive. Sometimes there is a bit of confusion when the person who delivers the food was not the same one that took the order -- the food sometimes being taken to the wrong table. The grill master is the one major variable when I order burgers. For one thing, I usually do not get the advertised full discount for the Wednesday night special. Things like cheese and add-ons can run up the burger a bit, but there always seems to be an automatic charge for cheese (either $1 or $2 up-charge) which I do not order. That is why I say I usually don't get the full advertised discount. Aside from that, there is wide variation in how the meat is cooked. "Medium" one night can be "Medium rare" or "Well-done" depending on the person on the grill. You best not order it "Well-done" unless you want to risk it being dry and crispy. The tacos are always excellent. Grilled or fried, either way is a diner's delight. The sauce has a nice burn without being too spicy. The two-taco meal may be enough for most diners with the three-taco portion being quite enough to satisfy. As far as putting Memories Charcoal House on my dining list, I will continue to patronize the establishment for its friendly atmosphere, cordial staff and wide variety of menu items.

That's ok; every place has its own way do doing things. I waited. Noticeably, I was the only person of color in the entire restaurant. Still, I waited because no tables were available and they could see I was there. They made eye contact several times, walked by me several times. Finally, a table was turned over (very very slowly). I anticipated that would be mine since I'd been waiting and no one else was there. While the table was being turned over, another party came in. They were not spoken to either. When done, the woman who had turned over the table greeted them and walked them to the fresh table. She looked at me and turned away. I watched, confused. Someone who appeared to be a manager or owner hopped down off her stool at the bar having seen what happened, spoke to the hostess and asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar. I declined. I had waited and I wanted a table. The woman just turned and walked back to her seat at the bar. No apology (though she saw what happened), no indication of making it right. The hostess appeared annoyed but not apologetic and said nothing. I ended up leaving because the people there made us feel so unwanted - blatantly and boldly so. So if you're POC or visibly queer, skip this place.

I look forward to revisiting and trying their lunch and dinner options too as they looked equally as good. The long and short, the food is fantastic. It's good quality and great flavour. Where some improvements could be made is the condiments or sides, eg: better orange juice instead of what tasted like a concentrate and real maple syrup instead of fake. What we got: Legendary French Toast - 5* fluffy, delicious, and super filling. Country Fried Steak - 3.5* the gravy was amazing (can't wait to try their biscuits and gravy), the potatoes were fried perfectly and improved with self applied salt and pepper, the biscuits were delicious (though jam options could be improved), and the eggs were cooked the way we asked. The steak was good initially but got old fast, it was salty and a tad overcooked and we were glad we were splitting both meals because eating the whole serving would've been hard.

It was a lovely evening the night we went, so we ate outside. I started off with a Raspberry mule. For dinner I had the shrimp tacos, the shrimp was blackened and it was served with a slice of avocado and sriracha mayonnaise. It had a good flavor and the right amount of spice. My husband had the Chesapeake omelette which was served with spinach, lump crab meat, mozzarella and a Chesapeake sauce. He said his dish was delicious.
