Burger Baron is one of my favourite fast food places to eat at !! Founded in 1957 by Jack McDonnell in either Calgary or Lethbridge (apparently, the original is disputed). Burger is a different kind of place - there are many locations in and around Edmonton, as well as other small towns in Alberta and BC, they are all independently owned. Burger Baron's main menu items are a variety of burgers and fries, the mushroom burger being one of their most famous. A recent addition to the menu in recent years is the Halifax style donair, which is very delicious and flavourful. Another characteristic of Burger Baron is each location has its own menu of burgers, fries and sides, as well as drinks. Depending on which location you will be dining at, you can either look up the menu online or simply go inside the restaurant. I say this because each location is independently owned, and will surely find different burgers and recipes from place to place. The different locations I have eaten at are great - the interior is usually has the old school fast food style to them, which definitely adds to its charm. It's almost like stepping back in time, and is so awesome!! My favourite burger is the cheese burger, and the donair is among my favourite as well. They offer different sauces and sizes, but still served on a pita bread and with traditional condiments. The staff are always welcoming, and service is great and fast. Anyone who has lived any amount of time in Alberta is aware of Burger Baron, which has operated in this province for 65 years. Though they are all now independently owned, a few stand above the rest. I work near this location, so it has been a go to for many years. This a low rent drive-in, in a low rent neighbourhood, serving excellent low rent food. Having not been in for some time, I found myself craving the legendary Mushroom Burger and Onion Rings, so stopped by for lunch. I chose the pickup window as my delivery choice, and having placed my order, wheeled around the tight corners to the pickup window to wait for my food. This is not McDonalds... there is no team of uniformed drones bustling in the kitchen, blasting out your order in seconds. This appeared to be one girl, taking orders and doing the cooking. I waited an easy 10 minutes, and took some pleasure in watching the guy in the car behind me losing his mind over how long it was taking... The window opens, and a hand holding a brown paper bag is thrust out the window. As I bring it into the car, the delicious aroma of fried food permeates the air, the upholstery and my very being. As I return to work, I walk through the common area, and watch heads and noses turn to follow me, co-workers asking, "Whatcha got there?" "The Baron," I say and conversation turns to their favourite dishes. Once back to my desk, the reveal. I just got the single Mushroom Burger, and it is huge, an easy 6" across. The Large Onion Rings was also extremely generous, a big bag of crispy, deep fried goodness. All was well cooked, and the flavours, especially the burger, brought back many fond memories of burgers past. Loaded with mushrooms and the "special mushroom sauce" the burger alone was all I really needed. Next time, I would go for the small Onion Rings. Other recommendations: Deep Fried Mushrooms Deep Fried Pickles Corn Fritters Milk Shakes I can't promise that every burger is made with "love," but they are made with tradition in mind, and BB is an Alberta classic for good reason. Is it the best burger in Edmonton? Again, no... But this is tasty comfort food, in large servings at a reasonable price. You should eat here. read more

Ordered today from this restaurant through Uber. It took about an HOUR from pick up to drop off. The restaurant is 8 minute drive. !! As such for arrived spoiled, cold and in violation of health regulations. Complaint to Uber blamed the restaurant, the employees I spoke to were extremely rude and made me explain the issue 8 times as she didn't understand English (or was pretending not to in hopes I would just give up and disconnect the call). Restaurant offered to do absolute NOTHING about my issue. (I wanted a replacement not a refund) Not only was there a food safety issue but the items also came BURNT. I have filed a complaint with AHS for investigation of their food handling standards. Avoid this location at all costs unless you don't like quality food, not getting food poisoning or any remote resemblance of customer service standards. Talk about complete waste of $40. Extremely disappointed in my recent experience at this restaurant. Last week I ordered a pick up order on Skip. I was leaving work (I work in the area), so I walked over to pick up my order, and called an Uber from their establishment, since I was grabbing my food and leaving. Upon arrival, the door was locked and there was a note on the door saying they are only doing drive thru orders today. I walked up to the drive thru and told them that I was picking up my order and if I could wait inside while my Uber arrives. The girl who was working said she would ask. With it being -45 with wind-chill, I do understand where they are coming from with trying to keep the restaurant warm, however, I was the only one standing outside and it would only be a few minutes. She went and asked someone in the back and then returned with my order. She did not acknowledge the question and just passed me my food through the drive thru window. I then asked her if she was willing to let me inside for a few minutes and she said no. I told her its -45 outside and she shrugged her shoulders. I was not asking to loiter in their restaurant, I, a PAYING customer, was asking to come in for a few minutes to keep warm. This left such a bad taste in the mouth I did not even eat the food. I have eaten here previously and the burger was meh, so I didn't miss out. Will not be returning and will be spreading the word on the fantastic customer service. 0/5. read more

This is one of my favourite Burger Baron locations (each one can vary dramatically depending on the owner). My favourite is the mushroom swiss burger, which is hands down the best mushroom burger served anywhere! Gooey, more sauce than you can handle (use lots of napkins!) and full of flavour. Their milk shakes are amazing and super cheap (best flavours imo are root beer, rum and butter, and butterscotch). Their corn fritters are also amazing. It's a small drive-through location so we usually get delivery or pickup. read more

I think Burger Baron has the best fast food burgers in the city. I've always been a fan, and it's kind of a treat whenever we get a burger from here. It's pretty close to my house, yet I don't go here often (which is probably a good thing for my waistline....) Really tasty burgers that aren't too huge (but still pretty big!), thick fries and the best gravy to top it off. They have tons of milkshake flavours as well. I love the rum and butter one myself. I usually go through the drive-thru. I've been inside once or twice - it's nothing special, just the counter and a few tables. They have a few benches outside for those summer days. The service here is not great. It usually takes a while to get the food, up to 10 minutes, and the people that work there are less than friendly. They also get really busy when there are events on at Rexall. Oh well, the food is good, way better than the other chain burger places, so that's why I still gave it 4 stars. read more

I have had the donairs here, as I have in many places, and they aren't half bad. The meat is very good and juicy but the sweet sauce is what separates it from most donair places. It is a cold sweet sauce that is made from evaporated milk. Add banana peppers, tomatoes and onions and enjoy! read more

Hands down this is my absolute favourite burger place worldwide! Each time I go back to Edmonton I am excited to eat here as I have for 30+ years. The service is quick and friendly, quality is consistent, burgers freshly cooked and fries with gravy are so tasty! Sadly I did not have their famous deep fried mushrooms this time. Their prices and deals are no match for any other fast food joint. I would be here at least once a week or more if I lived in Alberta. read more

I love Burger Baron's mushroom burgers. It's their signature burger and they do it well. This store has specials on different days of the week that are posted on a sign out front. I love how it used to be one of the old drive in diners but is now a drive through. They've got tables inside, too but I only have been through the drive thru. They aren't open very late, I went there one night and it was closed. They're also known for their shakes which are actually pretty good though I rarely indulge. I can always count on them for their mushroom burgers and usually get some corn fritters on the side. mmm. read more

This is one of those secret haunts you wouldn't tell a new boyfriend you like, until you're sure he really gets you. It's not fancy, the burgers come in paper sleeves and the speaker for the drive-thru is so bad you can never be sure they actually got your order right. But get over all that and have the mushroom burger (with or without Swiss cheese) or one of the many great made-to-order shakes. Just don't visit here when wearing your best duds as almost every burger comes with a great, goopy sauce that will drip down your chin as you eat in your car. read more

This Burger Baron is great and cheap. I always go there.... Ummm, I love their food. The place is clean and the people there are very friendly. Burger Baron is a fast food and compare to fast food it is better than any others fast food in the city. Their burgers are big and your are paying less that what you are eating. I think. This is my go to place. It's like home been going there me , my family and friends for over 6 years. Simply great food, service price and place. They have family sizes meals , wings and 20 different side orders ( also shakes ummm). Go try everything there especially the Canadian and mozzarella burgers. read more

Food was amazing, Despite ordering on Just eat and a few items missing the food was so good. Managed to convince the whole office to order. Very accommodating for changes, co worker got the mozza burger made with a chicken patty and it was delicious. They even criss-crossed the bacon so it was weaved together. Moments from co-workers: great, really great. So full-filling, do not order a double order of fries with a burger, a regular fries is large enough. And finally: so much grease, mmmmmmmmmmmm. read more
