Awful, weird bacon, my burger tasted like it was microwaved or boiled? Had a weird bland taste. Ill never order from there again ever.

The burger joint must have recently changed hands, prices have skyrocketed and the original ambiance and owner are now to be seen. this place went from one of the top burger spots to not even on the charts. $40 for 2 people to have a frozen patty burger just doesn't cut it. Sorry but we won't be back. read more

Burger Joint is amazing little spot. The service is top notch and the food is super good. Build your own Berger is fun. But I always get the blue cheese burger. It's large cheesy and awesome. Get it with the straight or curly cut fries. Ambiance is casual. read more

I'm so glad that I have a new favourite place for burgers! The door was awesome and delicious. It's awesome that you can make your own! It's a very busy place and it's not surprising. The food is good, nice atmosphere and clean. The owner was very kind and polite and we enjoyed our experience! I'm sure we will go back there a lot! I tried "Lamb Deluxe" which was awesome. The curly fries were good too. We also enjoyed fried cauliflower. read more

I've had The Burger Joint many times now, I try to have it whenever I'm in the southside. I always get a build your own. My favourite part of this place is how quickly the food gets to you. And they follow instructions. I've never had a disappointing burger from here. Sometimes I've ordered too much sauce, and they follow instructions. Not their fault if the burger is a saucy mess. Their curly fries are good, not sure what the white dipping sauce is, but it's delicious. Fountain drinks are nothing special, but that's to be expected. For a build your own burger, it's very good! read more

Customized burgers have been in the trend for so long. Best thing is that you can get the customized burger at the same price as the regular one in the menu. The Burger joint comes in the list of must try burger places in edmonton. I have been there twice and my experience was completely different both times. First time, we had a takeaway of Veggie burger and Chicken burger and i found them so tasty that i decided to go again for Dine in. Well, Food didn't turn as i expected it to be. We got one Chicken and one Mushroom Burger customized. They were tasty too this time, but burgers were not quite filling as they were previously. I've heard good things about The Burger Joint for awhile but don't make the trek out for burgers very often. Well, well, things finally worked out and we came to check out the BJ on a Saturday afternoon. Great nickname eh? It's located in the same plaza as Loma House. The menu is simple; 10 signature burgers to choose from (2 are vegetarian) or else it's BYOB. - Curly fries ($3.75) - fries were piping hot, crunchy, crispy and come with two side dips (homemade ketchup and tartar sauce). - Sunrise chicken ($8.99) - this one tasted like summer; sweet, light and refreshing. - Spicy crunch ($8.99) - this burger was completely different and was a nice change of pace. We both preferred the spicy crunch; it was meatier and more satisfying. Pretty solid place to grab some gourmet style burgers. I'd hit this place up again if I were planning to stuff my face a la Guy Fieri style. 3.5 stars. read more

I had my once a year craving for a burger, and this is where I ended up. I went with a build my own, and kept it pretty simple. Just tomato, lettuce, sautéed mushrooms, ranch, and swiss cheese, with the 7oz. beef patty. You can definitely add as many toppings as you like, most of which are free. I expected my burger to be overflowing with mushrooms, but it wasn't even enough mushrooms to have some in every bite. So that was disappointing. I found the bun and patty to both be slightly dry, not terrible, but not amazing. Overall though, it did hit the spot, and the curly fries were super enjoyable. I'll likely be back next time I'm craving a burger, as it wasn't a greasy burger and didn't make me feel ill. But I'm going to be more specific about my topping request... load me up with mushrooms! read more

Definitely one of the better burger bars around knocks burger priest out of the running completely in my opinion. I had the spicy crunch burger was juicy tender and tasty. Sauce and bun delish the veggies, jalapeños banana peppers and onion were really fresh and satisfying. I took the onion ring and curly fries off the burger just because I don't see the need for them. They were tasty on there own. My hubby had the lamb burger he was delighted with it and already planning his next choice of burger off the menu although he will find it hard not to choose the lamb again. We ordered regular fries and a garlic dip they were good fries and a great dip. Will definitely be back again. read more

I had to go to Home Depot to get some supplies that I discovered I'd need for a recent job in Leduc. Being so close to South Edmonton Common I thought I'd have lunch at the Burger Joint. I had a lot of places to try in my bookmarks but time did not permit sadly. I didn't get to go anywhere near Whyte Ave and I didn't get to try many places I had hoped. It was a short trip and instead of going to the city I was lucky to instead make plans to see a friend instead. The Burger Joint would be the only bookmarked place I'd get to visit but I was happy to eat a nice relaxing sit down lunch. This strip mall just north a bit from all the big box craziness is quite the busy place. This U Shaped strip mall's parking lot was packed just after 1230pm. The Burger Joint seemed quite busy inside, being lunch hour there are a handful of tables to select. On each table is a thick pad of custom checklists on a clipboard. This is so you can custom make your burger. From what I could make out this place is not a chain and this is a standalone business. The checklist menu reminds me a bit of the customization I've seen at places like BRGR and Burgatory both in Pittsburgh. You pay at the register and order, pay and then your order is brought to your table. While I didn't see a choice of type of bread (just normal bun or sesame) , there is a selection of meat from beef, donair, lamb, veggie, and a variety of chicken styles (buffalo, grilled, breaded, jerk) as well as sauces, condiments and for an additional charge a variety of premium toppings for an additional charge (variety of cheeses, ham, calamari, guacamole, fried egg, bacon and portabello mushroom). Additional toppings are value priced. No premium toppings are more than an additional dollar each. The free toppings such as tomatoes, a selection of different peppers, pickles and other toppings to select from is a long list. Basically you get to customize a burger but if you're lazy to do so they have some pre-made selections to choose from as well. I went with the BJ burger which was 7oz beef, lettuce, tomato, purple onion, white mushrooms, pickles, bacon, mozzarella, and south west chipotle sauce. I have to say that the BJ burger was really made well. The veggies of which I don't usually think too much of were absolutely fantastic. The veg was VERY fresh and the burger was well dressed. The veg were so fresh I think they complimented the burger so much that I almost forgot about the burger... almost. The burger was just short of a half pound patty. It's big, satisfying and juicy. The cheese and bacon addition for me are almost a must and really complete a burger. The chipotle sauce wasn't spicy, it was sweet more like a BBQ type sauce but it was tasty. The bread was slightly toasted and it really made the burger near perfect. I ordered a combo so it came with fries and I selected a bottled water as my drink. The fries were really fresh and hot. They came with a side of ketchup and a small side of another sauce of which I wasn't familiar but I ate it and I liked it too. The only regret I have for the Burger Joint is I could only eat one burger. I wanted more but I was full. I really want to return to try more choices and maybe I'll be less lazy next time and make my own customized burger of which I am no stranger. This place is a solid 4* in my books. I'll definitely return given another chance. I don't come too often to Edmonton but this place is now on my burger radar. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it was worth the wait.... I went with my daughter and we both customized our burgers to the max! And, got the combos. It was a fun night out for sure. She got the Buffalo Chicken Burger and then added blue cheese dressing and 7 other toppings. I got the Veggie burger and 9 other toppings! Most toppings are free but premium toppings, including cheese, range in price starting from 75 cents and go up from there. But really including the CURLY FRIES (and who can resist those?), drinks for both of use, HUGE customized burgers, our meals were under $30. Still fairly reasonable nowadays. I was so impressed with the presentation (sorry I was starving I guess and forgot to take pics!). The fries came out in a great little cone with homemade tarter sauce and ketchup. There was so many we needed up with a little take away container of fries in the end. And, then there was the burgers. OK. Maybe, we went a little overboard on the toppings? Just maybe. They were HUGE. But, we had so much fun and they were so yummy. I was a little apprehensive about the veggie burger - soya and mushroom but it was fantastic. So filling. They also have a menu with some amazing pre-made burgers on it for when you just want to order something that sounds really great. I can't wait to go back and try some of the pre-made burgers now... I was so excited to customize my burger that I didn't even see that part of the menu until I had ordered! BJ's is in a small strip mall on the south side, locally run which I like. I'll definitely be back! read more

Great Burgers! I'm not a huge burger eater but this place is great. My sister who is a vegetarian and myself who's an ex veggie was impressed by the unique tasty burgers. I had the chicken burger and my sister had a veggie burger, we shared the curly fries. All was superb. I recommend trying this place, the seating is not overly comfortable but it does have a nice simple look. Parking is not ideal when the businesses around are busy otherwise catch it on a good time. read more

A brand new customizable-burger joint has opened up in the South Ed Common/Milwoods area. It's about a minute's drive from South Ed Common and the only reason I found this place is because it's in the strip mall where my doctor's office is. It seems like customizable burgers are totally in nowadays. The Burger Joint offers a vast array of toppings, sauces, patties etc. to go with their burger. Apart from 7 oz (between a 1/3rd pound and 1/2 pound) beef patties, they have a couple of chicken patty options, a 100% lamb patty, veggie patty and kids size servings. I might be missing a couple! Either a classic bun or a sesame seed bun, with perhaps 25 different (free) toppings to choose from, along with another 15-20 sauces. There's no limit on the free toppings or the sauces, though I seriously hope no one mixes all the sauces! Not sure if dijon bbq, chipotle, 1000 island dressing, tartar and mayo would go well! (they have more, I don't remember all!). Of course, they have "premium toppings" and again, this isn't a small list. From a variety of cheeses to portobello mushroom, fried egg, grilled ham ... and wait a minute - did I just forget bacon? The burger is wider than usual (at least that's what I felt) and I get the feeling that they've done that so that people can go all out crazy with the toppings! The patty is sort of thin and seems disappointing to look at because it has more surface area than volume to accommodate for the larger bun. But 7 oz of beef is quite a bit (if they're accurate about that at least) and I certainly felt pretty full! All in all, a nice little joint in a part of town where people live and could conveniently visit. They have decent fries and also curly fries. I haven't checked too much into how they prepare their meal and what is fresh vs what is from a store bought frozen package! I suspect that there will be some things like that, but am not sure. Interesting little joint. Try it out. I wouldn't drive the distance for it but given that it's a part of town that doesn't have too much, I would go there if I was visiting my doctor, as I was today. read more

It took me a while to visit this burger place but let me tell you the burger that I had was great! The flavor was perfect, I ordered a blue cheese burger - beef, blue cheese, corn, onion ring, purple onion, lettuce, tomato & blue cheese dressing! + a side of curly fries. The different thing about this place is that you can customize your burger with a check list that can be found on each table or you can order one of the suggested burgers from the menu. As per today, you can make it a combo for $3.99 extra (Pop and fries) The place is kind of small but can seat 20+ people. The cashier was really friendly and the food got to our table fairly quick, what it's appreciated as we went there during our lunch break. I think next time I will be adventurous and order a customize burger or try either the double cheese - double mushrooms burger or the sunrise chicken! read more

The Burger Joint - BJ, Blue cheese burger & Curly fries! - Burgers Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

I saw this place a month ago but never went in until today. First thing i notice is no one is in the place. Not a single customer. Considering it was 530pm I was expecting a few people. Im usually reluctant to try the food when there is no one dining. I ordered the BJ burger ( pretty much fully loaded ) and curly fries. You can opt to choose your own toppings if you prefer. The one thing i noticed right after ordering is i could have made it a combo for $3.99 . Total $13.60 for a burger and fries. Granted the burger has onions, mozzarella cheese, bacon , lettuce , tomato , pickles , sauce , mushrooms . For 9.00 ??? Thats a great price. The fries were ok ( mccains curly fries ) but you get to season them up with spices right on the counter ( bbq, season salt , cajun, garlic powder, vinegar etc ) and it comes with a small container of tartar sauce ( who puts that on fries i have no clue ) . I opted to take my food home instead of dining in . The fries and burger are in seperate containers. The burger is huge.. and i mean its big in diameter. Now do you prefer a big thick patty on a small bun .. or a thin patty on a large bun ? One bite and omg... you taste everything. Its not drowned in condiments or sauce . It's a delicious burger. I really enjoyed it. Is it epic? . It ranks up there. They also offer chicken burgers, donair burger and even lamb!! Happy International Burger Day! We have been coming here for a couple years and haven't been disappointed. Hubby always has the Spicy Crunch combo and I had the Double Mushroom Double Cheese combo one with curly fries the other with regular fries each came with ketchup and a herb aioli as well as a fountain pop. I have also tried the Blue Cheese burger and their signature BJ Burger which are equally delicious. Fresh quality ingredients are used. We would give it a 5 but we thought the tables and benches could be updated. You have the option of customizing your burgers as a mini clip board and marker are at each table with a list of ingredients. Unfortunately diners have scribbled on the tables and benches. Perhaps a sheet of glass or plexiglass on the tables would make it easier to clean. read more

The Burger Joint is a hipster burger bar oddly and anachronistically located in a small strip mall that has mostly medical offices on the North-side of 23rd Avenue East of South Edmonton Common between nothing and nowhere. There's only about a dozen tables. Scattered on these tables are small clipboards with five step check-list forms on which you can create your own burger. Step One, choose a bun: Classic or sesame. Step two, pick a "meat": Single or double 7 oz beef patties, sliders, veggie, lamb, four types of chicken or a donair pattie. Step 3 involves 15 different sauces. Step 4 lets you pick from 20 different free toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, etc). And finally, step 5 lets you select any premium toppings (cheese, calamari, bacons, quac and the blessed fried egg) that are $0.50 to $1 extra each. You can then also add fries (curly or straight) or a salad and drink for a combo. If all those choices stresses you out, there is also a small menu board with about eight "signature" burgers in pre-set combinations. We went for the check-list. It's just way more fun. Once you fill it in, you take it up to the counter and pay the piper. I have to say that our orders came up quickly and maybe too quickly in that the beef burgers came up and there was a bit of a gap for the chicken burgers in the group. Not a big deal, but it would have been nicer to get our food more or less at the same time. The food was actually nicely plated on "china" which was a nice touch. Given that, the presentation of the burger left me a little cold. The 7 oz pattie was really thin. They use a large bun and the burger covers it, but seems thin especially when piled with the toppings. The burger looks 90% toppings and 10% meat. Now, a 7 oz patties is almost a half pound, so it's lots of meat. It's just the presentation that makes it look scanty. Bite into the burger though and all concerns evaporated. The bun, heated on the grill, had a nice crust and a soft even texture while substantive enough to hold the burger without droop or mushiness. Frankly, the bread was delicious in and of itself. The pattie was moist, flavourful and GRILLED ... that's right ... GRILLED ... not fried on a flat top (take that Delux). The topping were all fresh and I would believe cut to order. For example, the lettuce was crisp and not wilted at all (contributing to the illusion that there is way more topping than meat). My chipotle sauce was nicely sweet and smoky. Because the pattie goes edge to edge on the bun, every bite had a nice meaty component. I also had the side salad which was also fresh and crisp. It was a little bit of a let down that my Italian dressing came in a Kraft sachet, but the greens themselves were great. Fries are served in "newspaper" with ketchup and also mayonnaise to dip in. A well dressed single as a combo will run about $15 with tax. Not bad for what I got. Staff were really friendly and helpful. They threw in a drink for the one guy in our group who didn't go for the combo. I've been looking for a great burger place in town for some time now. This could well be the one. If the pattie were a little thicker even if it meant a bun with a smaller diameter, I'd have readily given Burger Joint five stars. read more

I enjoyed my meal at the burger joint... I got the burger they named after themselves because I figured it would be their best burger. I should have just built my own burger though. It was a pretty average burger in every way. If I could go back in time I would have got onion rings on my burger because while I was sitting there they served another customer onions rings in their burger and it looked awesome. The French fries need work. I grew up on chip truck French fries, so I always wonder why real restaurants can't cook a fry as good as the old man in the double decker bus in my home town. I don't know their fry preparation techniques but it seems like they are only frying them once because they are cooked but there is no crunch, just kind of soft all over. I doubt I would go back because I am having too much fun following bacon hounds burger odyssey. read more

After moving from Halifax to Edmonton almost a year ago, we were surprised Edmonton hadn't trended toward the fad of "gourmet" burger places that Halifax had seen major growth in over the last two years we lived there. Most of the Halifax places were average at best, but it was great to have variety (there were at least half a dozen independent gourmet burger places that opened in Halifax over that time frame, many of which spawned a second location). That's not to say there wasn't quality burgers in Edmonton - we've definitely had a few. But going to an indy place where you can build your own burger with great beef, toppings, etc. seemed hard to come by. That was, until this past week when we finally decided to try The Burger Joint - a place we'd driven by a good 30 times previously on our way to Costco. When we arrived, there was a good amount of people in the place, which is somewhat small and relatively cramped in a strip mall on 23 Ave. They have several signature burgers listed on their menu board, but we opted to create our own using the checklists available on each table. This is especially a nice option when your wife is very picky about toppings and sauces on pretty much any food known to man. The Burger Joint offers a variety of types of patties to suit virtually every taste - 7 oz. beef burgers, lamb, grilled chicken, buffalo chicken, breaded chicken, jerk chicken, donair burgers and a veggie option. I opted to go with a double beef burger, with lettuce, mushrooms, mayo, mustard, ketchup and jalapeno cheese. I also ordered a combo, with curly fries and a drink. My wife ordered a single beef burger with banana peppers, pineapple, red relish, mustard, ketchup and jalapeno cheese. She had a combo with drink and regular fries. Total, it set us back about $28. The food was made to order and served in a reasonable timeframe - about 7-8 minutes and there were several orders taken right before us. The burgers were very good. Mostly nice and juicy with a little crisp on the outside. The curly fries were a great addition, as were the sauce that came with them (they also came with ketchup). The regular fries were undercooked, but the flavour was decent. They also offer a number of flavoured shakers for your fries. The pop machine had no ice maker, which was a bit odd. The drinks we both had did stay cold the whole time, however, so their machine must be decent at keeping drinks cold even without ice. Bathrooms were modern and clean. All in all, we'll definitely be venturing back there soon when craving a good burger again. read more

Oh my, where do I begin. I have been to The BJ twice now and was even more disappointed the second time so I obviously should have learned my lesson the first time..Woh is me... From the mediocre customer service, to the atrociously over priced food and the cheap ingredients they use in them, I cannot get over how much I do not like this place, I will never go back. Both times I have gone they have forgotten to put ingredients on that I specifically paid extra for and was thoroughly looking forward to trying, BOO!!! The only upside I can really see about this place is all the different toppings you can choose for your beef, chicken, veggie, etc burger. Pineapple, cabbage, roasted corn and calamari rings? Awesome! But they give you pretty much nothing or you know, nothing at all, so there is not much to look forward to. The chicken burger I ordered was obviously deep fried from frozen and definitely overcooked. But the curly fries? Ya, they were..ok. Do not waste your money here, there are many other "burger joints" well deserving of your hard earned dollar. Oh and the sinks in the bathrooms are really cool! read more

I hate to do middle of the road reviews. I usually say like it or hate it, but have an opinion. Unfortunately, apathy happens from time to time, so throw BJ on the list of so-so burger joints in this town. The patty was a bit on the thin side for my tastes, and the bun was pretty dry. Dry enough to crack into pieces as I was eating. Worst of all, the burger just didn't have all that much flavour. You do get to add as much of the basic topping as you want, and did I ever. The premium toppings cost extra, however. This place is very similar to Rodeo Burger, and I'm not sure I could pick a favourite out of those 2, but they both don't rival the king of the build your own burger joints, 5 guys. read more

But they admitted that Burger Joint was better and even said it was the best burger they ever had! We were excited to get to choose any topping/meat/sauces we wanted. The whole experience was different and new.. But was well liked. We would all go there again and even talked about bringing family and friends to experience it. I'm torn between three and four stars. The good: very customisable, excellent taste. The not-as-good: smaller patties (is that REALLY 7 oz?) that are a bit on the dry side. If you're looking for something different to try, this is a good place to go. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a dang-good-run-of-the-mill burger, it's probably not where you want to get it. Will I go back? yup. Will it be a regular stop? probably not. read more

Forget those high priced favs Delux and The Burg, because this is the best burger place in town. Located in a strip mall near the south-side Costco, this little independent is serving not only the best, but the most creative burgers around. Seriously, make a trip here. I have had a custom burger with their great homemade sauces and tried the blue cheese burger last time (sorry i forget the name). Both were simply spectacular. Meat had flavour from a nice char and the onion bun was perfect. The pickles were so good. In fact each component was good. I have been lamented the closing of the Fulton Market burger place in the Park, but this is a worthy replacement. I only lament it is so far from my house. read more

Out running some errands we decided to ask Yelp to see what there was to eat in our general location (south common). It was decided that we would pop by The Burger Joint. I am so glad we did! I had never heard of the place, but I highly recommend it. It's pretty new and trendy inside, and has many tables. You go up to the counter to make your order (they have a menu of burgers, or sheets of "make your own") Hubby and I decided to do the "make your own". I figure if the burger sucks, it's kind of our own fault. I got a single 7oz beef patty, ketchup, mustard, red relish, lettuce, bacon, marble cheese and onion rings on it. Also, I decided to make it a combo with curly fries and a drink. The husband had a 7oz lamb burger with ketchup, mayo, bbq sauce, bacon, mushrooms, blue cheese, mozza cheese, cheddar cheese, and white onions. He also made it a combo with regular fries and a drink. Hours later, he is still raving about his burger. I couldn't even finish mine, plus the fries. The burgers were beautifully presented, tall, fresh, hot and flavorful. The fries came in cute containers and both had a side of ketchup and a side of herb mayo. Really hot, and very fresh. The fries came out first because they were cooked first. I think it's great that they didn't have to sit around. The staff were exceptionally nice, and the price was decent. $30 for the two of us, so roughly $15 each. Go try out The Burger Joint. I know I'll be back there. read more

I am not a burger fan, nor do I eat beef often, but my spouse was craving a burger so we thought we would stop by this place based on reviews. I order a custom veggie burger, and he ordered a custom double patty beef burger. These are some of the best burgers we have ever had! Finding a veggie burger that doesn't taste like cardboard is no easy feat, but The Burger Joint has your back veggie lovers! I put Swiss, Mozza, Olives, Roasted Mushrooms, Onion Ring, Coleslaw, and Donair Garlic Sauce on mine. I didn't realize the coleslaw was going to be so creamy, so next time I'd skip one of those but it was absolutely mouthwatering! I even stole a couple bites from my hubby's and it was amazing! The buns were fluffy and crispy on top. Everything tasted fresh. I had high expectations given the price. Portion sizes were larger than expected, and the curly fries weren't too greasy. They even give you ketchup and a garlic type dip for them! My only reason for 4 over 5 stars is that the inside was a bit dingy feeling, tables were sticky and had crumbs - we opted to take home. Staff was friendly and efficient. Will be returning next time we are craving a burger! read more
