Came since I enjoyed my burger soooo much last time! I also Had to try the Italian stallion shake! I was a little shocked that it was just an iced cap! Not creamy, very sweet, not too coffee strong. Probably won't get again as I was hoping for a more coffee milkshake type drink. Saw prices went up too and brontasorous burger is now $10.50 Just for a burger ( no fries) and an extra patty would be +$7. Overall Love the food but getting pricey. read more

I'm always down for trying a new great burger. Who isn't? Open since 2013, Jack's Burger Shack (it's hardly a "shack") quickly rose to fame as one of the best burger joints in St. Albert. (Which is pretty much a suburb of Edmonton.) They have since opened a second location right downtown in Edmonton, but you know me, I'm all about the OGs. VUE Weekly named Jack's #1 Worth the Trip: St. Albert 2018 and CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019 called them the Best Restaurant Outside City Limits. I drove out to St. Albert on a Saturday evening and made my way to the Perron District, which is a very cute part of town. Jack's Burger Shack can be found in a fairly low-key strip mall type of area, surrounded by other restaurants. They have a courtyard area (which is also shared with the other restaurants) and they all seem to be vying for patio real estate. Various sections of the outdoor seating is roped off from one another in an attempt to claim their own space. However, the outdoor seating is key because there is almost nowhere to sit inside. There are a few seats by the windows but nothing beyond that. The inside of the restaurant offers almost nothing in terms of decor and is more or less a take-out counter. There is a chalk board menu that lists all of the extensive choices and I took some time to make the perfect selections. There are ten different burgers to choose from, all using the highest quality beef which is ground fresh daily, freshly baked buns, and house made sauces. I was really into the idea of the BBQ Crunch (anything with chips on it) and the All Shook Up (anything with peanut butter on it) but had to narrow things down to the two burgers that I thought were the most unique. The natural choice for me had to be the Quebecer (Standard with fries, gravy, cheese curds & ranch - $11.50). I needed to see how well they could execute this admittedly excellent idea. If you can jam a poutine into something, I'm here for it. The burgers at Jack's are made in the popular "smashburger" style where the beef is "smashed" onto an extremely hot and flat cooking surface. This gives the meat a crispy and caramelized exterior and is meant to sear in the juices. The Quebecer is large and full of stuff! The soft, fresh bun was certainly a highlight for me and I liked the quality of their hand cut fries. This burger was messy but did a decent job of capturing a poutine (in burger form). I didn't really get the gravy and there could have been more cheese curds, but I did like the addition of ranch. Overall, this was my preferred burger of the meal. Our second burger was the Hangover (Beef patty, pickle, ketchup & mustard, between two grill'd cheese - $11.00) because maybe I just like the idea of grilled cheese sandwiches as a bun? It's not a new concept. I've seen it done before, namely at The Burger's Priest, but it gets me every time. The grilled cheese bun delivered. Melty and cheesy on the inside, these were pretty good as far as grilled cheese sandwiches go. The rest of the burger was a bit more lackluster for me, mostly because of the meat. So let's talk about the beef patties because both of the burgers suffered from the same issue. Despite the loaded toppings on the burgers, I found the patties themselves to be quite dry and uninspired. They lacked seasoning and although they were cooked as smashburgers, were missing the desired caramelization. I really wanted to love them but was sadly underwhelmed. If you're looking for the best smashburger in town, I suggest Flat Boy Burgers. The menu also includes a Sides section which features various types of fries and also some salads. They have a Wedgie Salad which especially caught my eye because a wedge salad is one of my favourite salads. However, I went for the Jack'd Up Fries (Fries, cheese slice, jack sauce & onion - $8.00) because this seemed more like their "thing." At first I loved these but they're definitely not something that you can eat too much of! Absolutely smothered in jack sauce (which I think is mostly hot sauce mixed into mayonnaise?), I liked the crispy and golden fries. The bits of cheese were a welcome delight. The sauce was a lot. But it tasted really good. But it was a lot. The shakes are another big deal at Jack's and I had to try one. All of the nine flavours sounded really good and many of them were quite unique. Think Cap'n Crunch or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They've got a Black & White milkshake, which is another thing that The Burger's Priest does. And the Italian Stallion (which I really want to try) that is made with coffee, vanilla and amaretti. I selected the Darth Vader Shake (Coke & vanilla - $7.00) because it sounded very fun. This shake sounded like a coke float, except in milkshake form. I liked that idea! And I loved this shake! This was probably the best part of the whole meal. Terrific food. We had the Big Jack, a massive charbroiled double paddy burger with poutine fries nestled inside. You will need a fork and knife for this massive burger. My husband loved it, but I prefer a juicier burger. So I will not order again, but he will. As to the milkshakes, I broke a two-year ice cream fast to have a "Malteaser." Delicious!!! And I appreciated that the portion was smaller. read more

5 COVID free stars! Jack's is doing call-in/walk-in business with temporary hours, so please check the website before going. There's no dine-in or washrooms available, but I'm NOT complaining and you shouldn't either. We walked-in, and our order was taken quickly and efficiently. We waited outside and sat on that big metal hinge while we waited. Jacks staff brought everyone's order out to them which was great. I got the shroom burger, hubby had the BBQ crunch burger. We both loved them. The patties are thinner with a nicely grilled exterior, which reaches the edges of the enormous, pillowy, fresh & delicious bun. I had a generous pile of thinly sliced & grilled mushrooms on top for a big umami punch. Fresh ingredients, and FAST & friendly service make this place a stand out. Jack's is really good value, as opposed to other "specialty burger" places in Edmonton. We'll defiantly be back, and try some sides with our burgers. Ps. I wish there were tables outside to sit at. The place is very busy during peak hours, so I would suggest non busy times. Got the BBQ crunch was great, the milkshake was OK but I do not think I'd have it again. Not much for seating so if you come at lunch or dinner plan to get it to go. read more

Overall been here a couple times. Burgers are nice but fries aren't included and the prices are pretty steep. Would likely go to delux over jacks but wouldn't say no thanks if there were others that I was with that wanted to go to jacks. I've been here a few times when I happen to be in the St. Albert area looking for fast food off the beaten path and I am a repeat customer whenever I catch their food truck at the hospitals. It's about time I share my thoughts on Jack's burger shack! Obviously I love the burgers! I've tried the shroom, bronto, PB & J, BBQ crunch. Honestly, I couldn't pick a favourite, they are all delicious but very distinct in flavour from each other. I appreciate that their beef patties are from a popular local butcher and I really like the texture of their bun...it makes the burger look massive upon presentation, but squishes down nicely so I can actually get a decent bite. Service at this location is consistently quick and friendly, I typically get my order in about 5 minutes after ordering. It's a small space, so I typically order to go, but that being said, if you choose to sit down & can't finish, they can also wrap the leftover to go too! I recently ordered one of their shakes and it was like drinking a frozen bowl of cereal! Yum! But, it's a lot to consume in 1 visit if you are also eating a burger. I'll maybe pass on the drink and just have a tumbler of water that they have available near the till unless I have someone to share with. They also have some beer & soda options to wash down that burger if that's more your style. I'm also happy they have a kids menu! It gives my munchkins some options when they are in tow! read more

Awesome, awesome, awesome. My girlfriend took me here when I was starving and ready to just hit a drive-thru. I like burgers but I don't go nuts for them, it's just a burger after all. Well not this burger! This burger is DELICIOUS. I super appreciate the thin patties. Every burger you get these days tries to be a monster and that doesn't appeal to me. I had the standard burger and it equates to just a straight up tasty burg. Also had the fresh cut fries with gravy and in house aioli, yum all around. It's currently only takeout which is A-OK by me. The takeout is as fast and priced comparably to any fast food joint. read more

This was my first visit so I thought I would try their special of the day. A hamburger with burnt ends, a spicy cheesy spread (not really that spicy), barbecue sauce and lettuce. Ordered up a poutine (fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), and a shake "Malteaser" -basically a vanilla shake with some chocolate malt balls on top. Super solid place to have a meal. Specifically burgers. Because obviously? I've been here twice now. My first and second visits were within two weeks of each other. This must mean it is delicious. It really was. The burgers are quite significantly sized. I went in so so hungry, ate a burger and shared an order of fries and was satisfied. I really loved the atmosphere. It's cozy and welcoming. Everyone is really great. It can get busy in there so it can mean no table, but order anyway. Eat outside. Eat on your car. Whatever. I really enjoyed sitting at the counter. I like watching kitchens operate. I haven't had a chance to have a milkshake yet, but seeing people come in and order just milkshakes makes me a bit excited. Yummy! Came back to Jack's burger shack with a group of fabulous Yelpers for Arc's fabulous Burger Quest! The All Shook Up Burger was DELISH with peanut butter and bacon! I think a dollop of grape jelly on it would take it to the next level! LOVED the garlic aioli with the fries... Oh. Em. Gee. Get in your car RIGHT now to go have their fries! And the milkshakes today were perfection! Clearly my first visit was a fluke - they totally hit the spot this time! And to their credit, my first visit was during their infancy. I highly recommend both the Darth Vader & Creamsicle! Mad props for Jack's sourcing lots of local and only using the Best of the Best! The food is great but it drives me crazy that they always seem to run out of ingredients, And the service is substandard. I would give a 5 star for food quality but the reason I'm leaving it a 3 star is I feel like they could really improve on their customer service. The staff doesn't seem to care at all about the experience of the diners. If this were my restaurant I'd want to know this. read more

I seldom review places that have a lot of reviews unless I've had a contrary experience and feel a need to set the record straight. That's not the case with Jacks as I agree with the strong ratings. It's just that the customer service was so good here that I felt compelled to chime in. The food is excellent and they offer chicken and vegetarian alternatives. But from the time you walk through the door to the time you leave, you'll feel truly welcome and cared for by the overwhelmingly happy staff. Everyone is happy at Jack's! Whenever I come here, I don't even look at the menu board anymore. I'm on automatic pilot for the BBQ Crunch Burger. I order, get the food and then it gets into my stomach, in record time. It's that good. The BBQ Crunch burger has standard cheese with bacon, cheese, potato chips (inside) and orange soda BBQ sauce. The bun is soft and easy to bite into. I'm salivating just thinking about it. This is no ordinary burger. The hand cut and triple fried fries are crispy and are the perfect side to complement a burger. The icing on the cake is the malt aioli to dip the fries into. So yummy for the tummy!! Bottom line: Come here for the most amazing burgers! read more

Innovative burger joint in a the heart of St. Albert's arts district. I enjoyed the peanut butter-topped burger I had and the shake was serviceable. If your in the area, it is a nice place to stop for a causal meal. However, I don't know if I would go out of my way to stop in again. read more

This is a tiny little shop with amazing food! We take out of town guests here often for great food and a tour of the little downtown area. I love the vegetarian burger option (called the brontosaurus burger). Milkshakes have all been tasty. Even the burger buns are amazing. Absolutely recommend this restaurant to everyone! read more

This place truly lives up to it's rating. The burgers were phenomenal! They have such a fun mix of flavours on the menu, a group of folks having to pick would surely be able to find at least one of the options to satisfy them. The fries and shakes were also on point. I wish the hours were consistently open vs a partial mid-day closure and closed Sunday's. PLEASE DON'T EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES!! Unless you want to be sick :( I had heard amazing things about Jack's and called in and asked if they had gluten free options, and they said yes - they offer celiac friendly burgers! So I got myself one. Directly after finishing it I became violently ill - and was nauseated and unable to eat for the next day. Clearly this was not gluten free!!! I emailed the company to let them know about this. They offered an apology, and wished I could see their kitchen and the precautions they take. Reaffirmed what I believed to be the my favourite place for a burger and shake. Had the hangover (9$) and compared it to the Vatican (11$+) at Burgers priest. Essentially both have a grilled cheese bun. And although the Vatican has two patties and is a very good burger, the patty is just better at Jacks. Ultimately, this is still the my favourite place for burgers. The darth vader shake was as delicious as ever. Not mention the atmosphere is very chill suburbia. And I like that! I have heard about Jack's for years. Apparently it is the place to go to get the best burger you will ever eat. It was meh. It was not horrible by any means, and the burger was "St Albert good". Will I go again...as a foodie it is unlikely. There is definitely better burgers in the area. Is it better than McDonalds? Absolutely. St. Albert surprisingly has a decent amount of restaurants in the 'hood. A co-worker and I wanted to try something different for lunch so we decided to check out Jack's Burger Shack on a Thursday. We just missed the lunch rush (score!) and were able to grab a seat at the counter. Good spot as you can see everything being cooked and the fries being blow-torched (what!). I like how all of Jack's burgers can be substituted for a chicken breast if you say don't eat beef and they also have one vegetarian patty on the menu. All the staff were very easy going and it's always great supporting a family run joint. We took a look at the chalkboard menus up on the walls and decided to go with: - All Shook up ($8) - Beef, bacon and peanut butter. Interesting idea with the peanut butter. My co-worker said it was very good and that the beef patty was tender and juicy. - Brontosaurus ($8) - homemade chickpea patty with LTO, jack sauce and bleu cheese. I'm no vegan (clearly) but the brontosaurus sounded interesting so I gave it a shot. The chickpea patty was surprisingly very flavourful. As many people have said, the patties are bigger than the buns, which I don't mind one bit. Also an interesting tidbit I found out was that their buns are made specifically for their shop from Safeway (who woulda thunk)! - Jack'd Up fries ($5) - hand cut fries with jack sauce, cheese slices and onion. It's interesting how they blow torch their cheese slices - can't say I've ever seen that before on fries. The jack sauce is what makes these fries good! - Poutine ($5) - hand cut fries, cheese curds and gravy. I'm not the biggest fan of poutine but this one was very average. We both found it to be a bit too salty for our taste buds. Overall, Jack's is a quaint little spot - nothing mind blowing but tasty burgers, fries and shakes. Speaking of shakes, I will have to try one next time as everyone else seemed to be ordering them. They also have a sister pub restaurant, right next door, called Feast & Lounge. So in case you were wondering Jack's now has a food truck and they just so happened to be parked outside my work place today. I've been to the downtown shop a few times now and the food truck is on par both for service and taste. Jacks burgers are somehow always cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and tender and juicy everywhere else. The crispy outside gives that deep grilled flavour you crave when eating a burger. At least that's how I like it. Today I had the mushroom and Boursin cheese burger. This burger packs a big punch of flavour. Honestly I don't think at this point I'd order anything else. But be warned it is a bit on the messy side. Also can't forget to mention the amazing brioche style bun that all these delicious ingredients are pulled between. It's oh so soft and light. Mmm.
