Burger Baron is a bonafide Canadian classic which I've just had the pleasure of trying recently. Albeit this location isn't in the best area and has some interesting characters hanging around it, I was very impressed for a hole in the wall burger shack. I got their veggie burger, fries, and a chocolate shake. First off, I'm impressed a classic place like this even has a veggie burger, so that was a plus! The bun was crispy and toasted, and their "baron sauce" was quite flavorful. The patty itself was seasoned nicely and grilled to perfection. Fries are BIG, in a good way. I shared them with a friend and we still had some left over, they're nice and crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. The shake was great, but very thick and could've done with being thinned out a fair amount. I felt the straw was insufficient for the amount of sucking needed to get the shake into your mouth. Overall, a great classic burger joint. To note - when I was there (on foot) I was instructed to use the drive thru window, which was strange. But the front counter worker was friendly, prices were reasonable, and they have outdoor seating, which was nice and very reminiscent of an 80's diner. read more

I totally avoided this place for so long, it looks like a weird gas station and it just was not appealing to me at all. My husband tried to twist my arm one day so obviously I turned to Yelp. 4 and a half stars!! Hey, that's pretty good! So I gave it a go. I chose the Oilers Burger, because... well... Oilers! From the description it sounded exactly like a big mac. The service took a little bit of time but that's because this is being made fresh. Hanging in the car waiting, I wasn't sure what to expect. But this burger arrived and it was magnificent! Massive tasty burger, with fresh salad and soft bun. Wow. It was probably the best burger I've had in a long time. It came with tater tots that were a nice change from bog standard fries. Who doesn't need a burger on the go from time to time? Shame on me for being so snobby! Customer experience: they are really friendly at this location. The inside is usually clean and everything on the menu is pretty clear Products: I'd have to say for a burger place, I'm really impressed with their donairs. The burgers are also well done too but some places just have one item that's good, the menu is definitely a great recommend on most items. I've tried a variety of different options and haven't been disappointed yet. Possible improvements: maybe need to vamp up a bit more. Definitely a dated location and it can be a bit more with newer signs and advertising. As for menu items, would be a good idea to make a Facebook group or a website that lists specials and unique combo deals. This will definitely bring more customers. I love the Burger Baron. It's an Alberta legend that I'm glad is kept alive. They're an old standby that the locals know. I still think they should revive the old drive ins. Their mushroom burgers are the best thing ever. I know at this location you can grab a menu and call your order in and they'll have it ready at the window when you arrive. They're always friendly and rarely really busy. I've never had a greasy burger from here. Did you know they serve Tater Tots? I'm not a fan but their side dishes are way different and more interesting than any other drive thru. I usually grab a small order of corn fritters with my mushroom burger and once in awhile indulge in a shake - depending what time it is. They stop serving shakes a couple hours before close. The person who was behind the counter ignored me, then didn't listen to a word I said and refused to split the bill so I could pay for the orders for my colleagues. When my order split the paper bag I was once again ignored after asking for a plastic bag. Haven't eaten at this Burger Baron for years, but 2 weeks ago we did and had the Swiss burgers. Absolutely the best burger I have eaten in Edmonton - ever! None of this pre-cooked junk like the usual suspects serve. The burgers are cooked as you get to the drive through window. It takes 6 or 7 minutes, but well worth the wait. Couldn't get the flavor out of my mind so we returned again yesterday and were not disappointed. Piping hot and absolutely delicious. I drove by Burger Baron 500 times before I actually decided to stop and eat here. They look like old, run-down drive-thrus where girls in roller skates used to serve you. It's hard to tell if they're even open and functioning. If you ever have a fast-food fix, Burger Baron isn't as good as your New York Fries or Lux Burgers, but it's cheap, greasy and good. I ordered poutine and a strawberry milkshake and was comatose for the rest of the day. It was good. Too good. And cheap. I understand why there are so many obese people in North America. McDonald's is only a fraction of the problem. Burger Barons in Edmonton are open, alive and well in Edmonton, even if it doesn't look like it. They obviously do well enough to still exist, but be prepared to cut calories the next day or too many royal trips will go straight to your hips. read more

i've never had burger baron before but the experience i had at this one convinced me i wouldn't be back. a confusing drive thru and a long wait simply to pay. the man who took my order forgot a quarter of the contents and had me back up in the drive tru twice. there were 2 cars that got served before me and pulled ahead and the food was overall mediocre but the mozza sticks were good. moral of the story poor service, ill get a burger or poutine somewhere else next time gross.. i've never had a hassle like this. ridiculous. read more

I like the idea of the Burger Baron. It's a local Edmonton legend and most people love it. Sounds like a great place to bring your family to eat, and it's cheap too! Where can you go wrong? Well, I'm gonna start off by saying that both times I've been here the customer service was complete garbage. The most recent of these times I had already paid for my food and the kind lady working had asked me what I wanted after the fact. What exactly did I pay for? No idea. Then, when I finally get my food, fries are cold and greasy as hell, and the burger is over cooked AND cold. Even if the burger was fresh and delicious and cooked to perfection, the patties are roughly 6mm-8mm thick and I wouldn't even call that a full meal for a dog. Long story short, their milkshakes are unreal, but dont get anything else here unless you want to be completely let down and pissed off for the next two hours. I give this restaurant a solid 2/10 and it was solely because their debit machine was pretty quick. One word of advice: Go to Five Guys or Fatburger You're gonna pay $4-5 more for your meal, but you wont feel like a dumbass after you eat there, plus you'll get an actual good meal. Hell, even McDonalds (after it's been stepped on) is an upgrade. read more

Great burger and fries but that lady made me want to jump across the counter and strangle her. Woman at counter was arrogant and didn't understand English well. 3 times I said no lettuce and still got lettuce on my burger, 4 times I had to ask for ketchup, 3 packets is not enough for a family of 4 and forcing me to beg for more is akin to poking a grizzly bear with a stick. Napkins were another rationed item that required begging. The homeless lady sitting behind me muttering gibberish lessened the experience even more. I have been frequenting this particular Burger Baron for about 4 years now and every visit I am amazed how good everything is. I have tried almost the entire menu and there is few things that I haven't loved. But my favorite is a double cheese burger with bacon. The amount of bacon that is put on shocked me the first time I ordered it. I was use to the standard two thin dry strips from most of the major franchises, but there was enough bacon to almost make a 3rd patty. The owner Mark is one of the nicest people I have met and is always friendly and accommodating. The building is a tad run down which can dissuade some customers but the interior is spotless. I remember my first time eating in and I could see my face from across the counter in the stainless steel shelving on the back wall! I think that its awesome that we still have little local places to grab a burger at that there is still care put into a customers experience. If you prefer not to indulge often, but if you do choose to, make Burger Baron your first stop. It will taste amazing, completely fix your craving and do it for a great price. read more

Hubby and I would drive past this place everday for almost 2 years before we fnally decided to give it a try. I have to say it was a great lesson in not judging a book by its cover, considering how run down the outside of this place looks we were nervous. Turns out needlessly. The owners are those who generally find maning the grill and the counter, they are pleasent, well mannered and fun to talk to while ordering and waiting for your food. The food is well priced and excellent in quality. I have no tried anything that I did not enjoy and I will admit to being an extremely picky eater. My personal favorites include but are not limited to there donairs, corn fritters and onion rings. Hubby is all about there big burgers.
