    The Perfect Martini. Frosty.
    Christina P.

What a fantastic place to have some of the most innovative and delicious food you've ever tasted! I started with the savory eclairs which were quite frankly insanely delicious. Elderflower, asparagus and goat Brie on a delicious bread made for some of the most tasty bites of the night. Then I had the duck terrine, which was aromatic and delicious. Finally, I had the two featured desserts. They were also fantastic and I had a great view of them being made from my seat at the bar. The boldly named Perfect Martini also did not disappoint. I was surprised by how high quality and beautifully done the food was. I would consider this place on par with some of the two Star Michelin restaurants I have visited. Service was also warm, prompt and lovely. I wish I was staying longer so I could visit again! This is a must-visit stop if you are in Vancouver and you love food.

    Acadian caviar with beignets

Booked a Gathering ROOTS Under a Cold Moon tasting experience to celebrate my best friend's birthday, and it was a good, solid dining experience. Some of the reviews have mentioned that the dishes, albeit good, lack consistency throughout the menu, with some technical errors peeking through. For our appetizers, we ordered the Buratta and the Acadian Sturgeon Caviar. The buratta with the amagaki persimmon was absolutely exceptional and we added a dollop of the caviar, which really made all the flavours pop. The creme fraiche beignet, which were served alongside the caviar, were buttery and also delicious. Overall, both of the appies were 5/5 stars. As for the tasting course, Burdock root with uni was a perfect starter 5/5, but the Salsify root made me a little disappointed-- the rice was just a smidge under al dente (both of these dishes we had with the caviar-- I highly recommend getting caviar for these, because it really ties in the flavours) 3/5. The Sunchoke and the Rutabaga were solid dishes, Rutabaga's duck breast was cooked to perfection and the duck leg confit hash was splendid 5/5; Sunchoke gets a 5/5 for being an amazing mushroom dish. The desert was Parsnip root, a play on Mont Blanc, which is a classic French dessert, and tbh it was wayyy better than a Mont Blanc. Really unique flavour, not too sweet, simply a 5/5. The ambience inside is cozy and rustic, with warm, glowing lights welcoming you as soon as you walk in... It's a perfect setting for a cold, rainy winter. Service was laid back, but very knowledgeable. Staff were friendly and kind and honestly such a major part of the dining experience. I want to celebrate special occasions here JUST because of the amazing service.

Overall, it was a great experience. The food was delicious. The place was a little small, but there was enough seating space to get some privacy, which we greatly appreciated. The service was excellent. The staff were very knowledgeable and explained each course in detail. Hands down, the parsnip root is one of the most unique and best desserts I have ever had. The sunchoke was also exquisite. The only criticism that comes to my mind would be that it's a bit pricey for the experience served, especially when compared to other local Michelin-starred restaurants . For being such a vegetable-forward menu, the price just seemed a tad high. But definitely, if you are in town, check this place out. They offer a unique take on food which leaves you craving more!

A little pricey but love the progression of the meal and use of seasonal products. The fish mousse was so nostalgic for me and packed with flavour though the fried chicken wasn't as light and airy as I prefer. I love the storytelling and use of the main ingredient from bitter note to sweet. The fish dish was so buttery and delicious. Some dishes didn't wow me but I applaud the overall service and thought out to create the course menu. Ambience was nice for a date night and while it was busy, it felt intimate.

Michelin Star so we wanted to check it out while visiting. Was underwhelmed. We've been to quite a few Michelin restaurants and nothing was exceptional, but the dessert. Wine pairing was solid!

Awesome tasting menu by Chef Andrea Carlson. Such a creative menu and very memorable experience. The food is very creative , subtle, and balanced. We enjoyed the evening The service is 5 stars. I've been quite skeptical of Michelin in Canada but this has been one of my more memorable experiences. On all fronts, Burdock outshone and delivered an impeccable dining experience. The most outstanding thing for me was the service. Our server was so knowledgeable about the food and the wine pairing. Given it was my birthday, we did splurge on an extra glass of bubbly and the premium pairing - the selections paired each course perfectly. Couldn't have one without the other. For a tasting menu, I was surprisingly full! Each course made sense, though I found it difficult to appreciate due to being so full. However, it was a pleasure to be seated at the kitchen to be able to observe the small team churn out dish after dish. Burdock provides an awesome experience in a beautifully curated setting. Intimate and not too noisy - perfect for a date night or special occasion! Definitely try out their fried chicken as an add on!

Food was amazing!! Every single dish they brought out was tasty with the exception of the corn risotto. It had a bit of an odd kick to it and I didn't like it. However the servers rectified immediately and made another without the spice which I thought was a bit better. Service was impeccable. I love how two servers brought out the dishes at the same time so we didn't have to wait for everyone at our table to get the dish. Initially from the outside it doesn't look like the place is anything special but inside was quite cozy. I loved how the dishes came in unique plates. Highly recommend.

Wow! What a fantastic experience we had for my husband's birthday! There were several other birthdays being celebrated that night in the restaurant. I really appreciated how affordable they made their tasting menu, especially for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Zero pretentious attitude, just nothing but gracious hospitality, fantastic food, and a great wine pairing selection that leans heavily feminist! I was too engrossed in the food and company, so only too a few photos. The stand outs for me were the cucumber salad, the crazy delicious dip they served with the buttermilk fried chicken, and the ridiculously delicious savoury profiteroles filled with cured steelhead. Wow!

We have been wanting to try Burdock and was able to get a reservation on the day of. In June and July, they have the "flower gazing under the berry moon" menu, which consists of six courses including one dessert. It is priced at $150 per person. The ambience in the restaurant is quite casual and intimate. The service throughout the dinner was 10/10. For the food, the only down side is probably the portion size. Almost every dish was bite size (or couple bites), and there wasn't a lot of protein in most of the dishes. However, as you can see from the photos - the presentation of each dish was all on point, you can see the amount of effort put into it. Our favourite dish was the Magnolia (spot shrimp with radish/kimchi) and the one that fell short was the Elderflower (halibut mousse with cabbage). Overall a great experience, we may come back again when the menu changes.

Walking along Main Street, found a small lit sign "Burdock & Co". Not sure what to make of it. On the quiet side of things. Reminds me of "Nighthawks" a 1942 painting by Edward Hopper. Opening its door, the sweet voice of Sade singing "Smooth Operator" filled my ears. The place is a cozy space covered with reclaimed wood paneling on the walls and ceiling, giving a warm welcoming familiar feel. Unique and individual lighting adorned the space, reminiscent of vintage furniture stores that were prominent along Main Street decades ago. Our server Jesse, at first shy, then reveal to be a very knowledgeable and thoughtful food enthusiast. She described the menu items with precision and detail. Seems she has had toast master training, answering an inquisitive individual like myself without any filler words. Her work for us was impeccable. We have ordered a "tasting menu" of 5 courses with this time of "citric" theme. 1. Lisbon Lemon stracchiatella cheese, Lisbon lemon & Foxglove Farm ginger ice, hosui pear & endives 2. Bergamot rosemary smoked Sieglinde potato, black garlic, potato skin cream, shaved bergamot 3. Sweet Lime Akami tuna, pork hock & leek, rose hip & sweet lime chili paste, shiitake glaze 4. Rangpur Lime lamb collar with koji cured crispy belly, fermented sunchoke, charred grain risotto, Rangpur lime & mountain huckleberry 5. Meyer Lemon parfait, malted milk chocolate cremeux, salted biscuit & malt caramel. ---------------- Started with sourdough and rutabaga appetizers. The dishes after followed each other like a crescendo that started with a small beat. Each dish was more lingering than the former. My thoughts were running away to the idea of rise of the proletariat. Vegetables that were once mere garnishes to the mains are celebrated here. For the first time I noticed their aroma, their musical notes, their essence. They are the stars of their own. And rightfully so. Coming from Landscape design background, Head Chef Andrea Carlson favours local sourcing and essence over sensational. Many who don't understand the subtleties of things, will not appreciate the sheer discipline and art that is in each dish. Every element cooked to perfection, every sauce cooked either to complement or contrast to bring out the ingredients' true essence. Harmony and chaos in a symphony of culinary perfection. Not to mention deliciousness. The meal is like encountering a masterful seductress who leaves you with an aftertaste like no other than a bittersweet romance. Sweet in reminiscence but bitter in parting. .........Until we meet again.

Had an absolutely wonder experience, quaint intimate atmosphere. Probably seats around 30 with some at the kitchen where you can watch the preparation. Halloween night, October Moon Menu featuring Radicchios, along with the premium wine pairing. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted warmly, (ya Iet them know in advance it was my birthday). Service was provided by Shiva who's complete knowledge of the wines provided & course description along with her friendly disposition was impressive. First course was served by Katy the sous chief, who was in charge that night, and each successive by a member of the kitchen to wish a Happy Birthday. The meal was outstanding, left that night with a satisfied palate and a warm soul.

What can I say? When people come to a Michelin star restaurant, they definitely have certain expectations. Although it's not everyone's cup of tea, but to me, Burdock was not a disappointment. We were contacted the day before our booking to check in with any food allergies, which is rare from my past booking experience. We can tell that they took the extra step to get to know their customers before preparing the meal. They sat all their dine out customers beside the bar table, which is right on the outside of the kitchen. I loved the scene as I can see how the food are prepared and hot the kitchen staff are functioned. All the staff are trained to have a good kitchen etiquette, they talk among each other with short sentences, to inform each other what they are doing etc, which is very impressive. All the ingredients are weighted and cut precisely. Their plates are pre-heated in the oven, so when the food is ready, they will be placed on a warm plate to prevent being cold. Sometimes the change of the temperature could also change the taste of the food. I like how they taking every detail into consideration to enhance people's dining experience. The portion of the dine out menu is very generous and prepared with all local farm grown ingredients. The owner has a 100 miles rule which means all the food ingredients should be coming within 100 miles. Burdock also owns their own grocery store in Chinatown, and they have their own farm. I like to support local community and buy from local farms whenever I can. This farm to table concept definitely make me very happy. All the dishes has this earthy, and fresh taste. They incorporate the ingredients together to maximize the flavor. For example, the steelhead was prepared with dill cream sauce which helped to bring out the freshness of the fish, rather than minimizing the fishiness. They also used a lot of Asian ingredients and cooking techniques on their other dishes such as the pork pate, fried chicken, and the dessert (diplomat with the glutinous ball). I enjoyed every bite of it. Their servers are very knowledgeable. For each course we were given a brand new set of cutlery and plate. There was always an introduction before each course. I saw their head chef standing by the end of the kitchen for quality control. If the dish is sent out in the wrong order, the server will be called to kitchen for a short brief. I'm very impressed with this dining experience. Each of them were working very hard. Even during dine out period, they still try to maintain their normal high standards which can be very hard when mass production is required. I am very proud that Vancouver has a rustic appealing restaurant like this, and will be back again!

I ate at two other tasting menu spots while I was here and this place was a clear winner. It's a one Michelin star restaurant and absolutely lives up to the hype. The slight heat from the sauce was perfect in cutting through the richness of the meat. - Chicken fried maitake - The coating was very flavourful but we found the the seasoning a bit too heavy. - Scallops - They were fresh and sinfully delicious with the sauce. - Sunchoke Dumplings - A dish with simple ingredients but it was easily the most flavour rich and balanced dish of the evening. - Hunters Chicken - I like that both dark and white meats were served on the dish. Although I generally stay away from white poultry meat but all the pieces were tender and juicy. The seasoning was a bit on the saltier side for us though. - Hay - The custard dish was interesting and we were told it's been the most popular dessert offering since the restaurant doors opened. We started with the calamari and the house spreads - we had the hummus, tzatziki, and roasted eggplant dip. It was so good that we had to order more pita bread. For our mains, we shared three different dishes: short ribs, lamb meatballs, and lamb roasted shoulder. The flavors were rich and well-seasoned. That, combined with their drinks, was a perfect match. Don't come here after eating a snack beforehand; make sure you're hungry because you'll be finishing your plate and the person you're with. The cozy converted house was full but not loud with dim lighting and close‑set tables for an almost home‑dinner vibe. From my visit, we shared three standout plates. The alcachofas con jamón paired confit baby artichokes with roasted onion and jamón Ibérico. It was a good balance of textures and classic Spanish seasoning. The ensalada de ajo blanco con tomates asados y atún semicurado brought a creamier, richer profile: silky almond‑garlic dressing on fire‑roasted tomatoes with chunks of semi‑cured tuna and a drizzle of ash oil that added a nice aromatic note. The arroz negro arrived with seafood mixed into deeply flavoured squid‑ink rice; it was hot, savoury, and rich, perfect with a squeeze of lemon and garlicky aioli. Service was a definite high point! It was warm, knowledgeable, and paced so we weren't rushed. Portions were generous enough for sharing among two, especially with the more substantial rice dish in play. That said, the overall meal trended toward the rich and dense, so pairing with a couple of the lighter salads or crisp wines next time would help round things out. Would recommend for for date nights, small groups, or anyone curious about Spanish flavours. Lighter eaters might want to mix in a salad or a vegetable forward plate to balance the richer offerings.

I could list them all by name but some of the names are quite long and might not mean much to anyone who doesn't speak Spanish! The Paella dishes are the filler dishes and then we ordered smaller appy sized dishes to get a little taste of things here and there. A noodle dish called Mariscos Fideua was highly recommended so we made sure to order that. On top of that we ordered 2 different types of Paella. One had chicken & rabbit in it while the other had squid ink in it. While the Paellas weren't bad, we all preferred the appetizer dishes better. There was a potato salad dish that had tuna and anchovy in it, which seemed to be quite the crowd pleaser at our table. I wouldn't have minded a larger serving of that. Whole roasted sea bass was also quite nice. There was at least one of each type of dessert on our table. A Basque Country Cheesecake, a Torrijas (Spanish style Brioche French Toast) and Ice cream. For the ice cream, some of us ordered Rum n Raisin while others ordered Turron. When we asked what Turron was, the waitress described it as an almond candy somewhat similar to Marzipan. After trying it...can't say it tasted anything like Marzipan to me. It had a nice roasted almond flavor, but it didn't taste like Marzipan and the texture was quite grainy. Enjoyed the flavor but would have enjoyed this Turron ice cream more if the texture of the ice cream had been smoother. The rum in the Rum n Raisin ice cream was very very strong! I half questioned whether it would be safe for me to get behind the wheel of my car after eating this ice cream! I have not ordered Rum n Raisin ice cream very often throughout my life so I could be wrong but my impression is that the rum should be more subtle and not quite so potent. Less potent would certainly be my personal preference even if it's not the standard around here! Still a good ice cream. Especially if you're someone who likes rum. Just a matter of personal preference. Service: Good Parking: Paid parking on the street

Having visited all Zakkushi locations across the Lower Mainland, I came in with established…read moreexpectations. This location fell short in a number of key areas. For the Temaki promotion, there was only one staff member assembling hand rolls, while the yakitori grill station operated separately. Even so, the execution at the temaki station felt inconsistent and rushed. The nori was not properly toasted and turned soggy quickly, losing the intended texture almost immediately. At a premium dine-in price, that crisp contrast is a core part of the experience. The rice was uneven and overly moist, which affected overall texture and balance. Even when ordering one round at a time, it was difficult to distinguish between the chicken and pork components. The wagyu and garlic beef were the only real standouts and were well executed. The space itself is quite tight, with limited room for coats or bags, making seating feel cramped and not well thought through for dine-in comfort. The warabi mochi dessert portion was also very small. On the service side: The Yelp reservation system was smooth and convenient. Staff were polite in person. However, when I called later to ask about a personal item potentially left at the booth, there was clear difficulty understanding the request, suggesting a communication gap. Overall, while some items were executed well, the consistency and attention to detail did not meet expectations. At this price point--even with the HH menu--execution needs to be significantly more precise for the experience to feel justified.

It's located literally directly above Sip, if that helps. For food, our host had an appetizer platter made. It was mediocre at best. The vegetables were all soggy. Somewhat disappointing. I had the bartender mix up a "strong drink". It was a shot of JD mixed with something out a green mystery bottle. Hopefully it wasn't antifreeze. Came to $4.50. Not bad! My biggest problem (though this is not the only place guilty of this) is that the music is too freaking loud. I couldn't hear anything, and had to shout in people's ears. Yes there's a DJ there (and he's quite good, hello Snoop Dogg, blast from the past), but seriously, please turn it down a notch. The other thing I didn't like is that the interior is quite plain. Yes, it's supposed to look like a refinery, but putting 500 glass jars filled with random food items on the shelves on the wall doesn't cut it. It makes the place look like a 1800s supermarket instead. This place needs some help in the branding department. Overall the experience was okay, but it was nothing memorable at all. There are better places in town.
