I arrived to Bearcat Baked before 9am on a Saturday and waited in line for about 10-15 minutes to…read moreorder. Not bad considering its overwhelming popularity! There were an array of tables/chairs for dining in/brunch, though many of the visitors took their food and drink to go. That was the plan for me until the unexpected happened. I ordered a savory bun and a Purple Mountain (ube cream on a london fog - incredible and unique). I also ordered a build-your-own breakfast sandwich. The lovely staff member asked if I wanted my egg in the sandwich to be scrambled or sunny side up - casually. I figured that if she gave me this choice, then the egg should at least hold up well in the sandwich if it were sunny side up. I was wrong. When I received the sandwich in the to-go box, it had already been cut in half and the egg yolk was not even remotely solidified. It was extremely messy and liquid and saturated the entire bottom slice of bread. Mind you, someone had cut the sandwich, saw the egg yolk carnage, and thought "this is fine." Maybe it was my own naivete, but that's how I ended up with egg on my face (literally) and eating a deconstructed breakfast sandwich. BUT - it was still extremely delicious. Takeaway: get the breakfast sandwich! Do not get sunny side up egg!

Excellent croissant breakfast sandwich. That's exactly how the scrambled eggs should be prepared…read morewith the proper flavor and texture! The almond croissant was even better. Delicious and beautiful latte. The price is right. Great service too. There is plenty of seating in the light-filled space. I did not venture to the patio out back, but there is seating there too.

Croissant D'Or Patisserie is located in the former home of Angelo Brocato's ice cream parlor…read more Angelo Brocato moved to a new location but its name is still in the tile on the floor at the entrance. This French bakery offers authentic pastries, hand-made croissants, brunch fare, & espresso drinks. The high-ceilings, white tile, and marble tabletops emit a European café vibe. There is also a charming courtyard if you want to soak in some sunshine. I first learned about this bakery when staying at the Hotel Villa Convento across the street. They served their buttery rich croissants as part of their continental breakfast. (I'm not sure if they still do.) Now that I have a house in the Quarter, I take a morning stroll over here to pick up croissants to take home. The butter croissants are a bargain at $3.50. I also love the chocolate & almond (both are $3.95 each), as well as the crisp & flaky Palmiers & delicate Almond Florentines. When I have guests, I bring them back a Ham & Cheese Croissant - a bargain at $5.50. They always ask me to bring another the next day.
