First time trying Ethiopian food and I'm glad it was at Bunna Cafe because this place was stellar! Absolutely loved the ambiance, service, and most importantly the food. They start you off with a free plate of popcorn to snack on while you wait for your food which was so fun. Also, I happened to be in during their weekend Bunna Coffee Ceremony so I had a complimentary cup of the Bunna. It was very strong, spiced, and rich, with a prominent ginger undertone. Adding in the brown sugar cubes opened up the flavor so much. Delicious! I tried the Lentil Sambusas which were super crispy. The filling inside was fine but adding on that cilantro lime sauce really tied it all together! There was a subtle spice too that I enjoyed. For my main I went with the Beyaynetu Meal which was the 5 scoop option. I kinda wanted to go for the 7 scoop Feast to try more things but I'm glad I didn't because the 5 scoop was very sizable for one person! I tried the Enguday Tibs, Shiro, Misis Wot, Yater Kik Alicha, and the seasonal option which was an Eggplant and Walnut Deberjan. WOW!!! Everything was so insanely flavorful and worked well with each other. I think my two favorites were the Shiro and the Yater Kik Alicha. Soooooo so so good I could eat a whole bowl of just those.

Feast - can choose 7 options!

We happened to visit between 5-6pm on a Sunday which is when they are doing the coffee ceremony. They usually have this 5-6pm Friday to Sunday. The service is complimentary - the coffee is SOOO good. I love how they add a bit of ginger and there are sugar cubes if you don't like your coffee black. I love bitter and roasted coffee so I was absolutely a fan of what was served. They also serve popcorn as snack on the side. The low lighting ambiance was lovely and peaceful. This place is fully vegetarian so there are no meat options. You can pick different sizes depending on how many entrees you want for the beyaynetu. We picked the "feast" option which comes with 7 entrees of your choice. The portions for each entree is like a small fist size. You can also order the entree a la carte but I personally love beyaynetu because of the variety. Everything was delicious!! There's not one that I disliked. If I had to pick one, shiro was probably my favorite. I highly recommend trying this place out if you've never had Ethiopian food before.

Very first time trying Ethiopian food in Bushwick, Brooklyn! Finally got there around 4pm it was a quiet time- it was so nice and very neat, cozy and warm environment. The menu is so unique I love how it looks! And I enjoy them all that I got in a beautiful plate. 5 kinds is a great deal! I really loved "Gomen" and "Keysit Selata"! Honestly it was a great experience having my hand roll with Injera flatbread. All amazing and kind people! I already want to go back!

YUM!!! The mixed platter was so great. Highlights were the beets, the lentils, and the chickpeas/split peas (can't remember what they were). Great vibe inside

SERVICE - located in Brooklyn at the border of east Williamsburg and bushwick in an not as popular neighborhood - quaint interior with dim lighting makes it feel homely and intimate - live music on certain day evenings - walk in only - no wait on a weekend evening though restaurant is quite full - ambiance good for semi casual meal - friendly and attentive service MENU - ethiopian vegetable and lentil stews to be ordered as a platter or a la carte - all vegan/vegetarian - average price ($25 per person) FOOD - feast for 2 (9/10): two scoops of all nine side dishes, perfect for sharing between two people. The thing that stood out to me the most was the difference in flavors between dishes. They varied in levels of spice and warmth which made tasting each one an experience. I would highly recommend getting the dishes in a platter like this to try them and combine ones that you like. The one dish that was a bit of a letdown was the kale. I wish the kale was more cooked or had more seasoning on it as it tasted very raw and bitter compared to everything else. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! One of the best ethiopian meals I have been to in New York

First time having Ethiopian food, especially vegan. My experience was nothing short of amazing. The Beyaynetu, was delicious. The injera surprised me, it was slightly acidic and a bit tart, but it paired WELL with all the other sides. I got the $26 Beyaynetu (shared amongst 3 people), except the kale and beets option. This is how vegan food should taste. All the sides had their own flavor profile and even with mixing them, nothing overpowered the other! The sambusa with red lentils, were amazing, crispy skin, the lentils were cooked perfectly, not too hard, not too mushy, had a bite to it. The pepper sauce it came with set it off, a bit of spice as well. Shai correnti (Ethiopian hot toddy) was strong, made me feel nice. The Pushkin was delicious, and the powdered pot on top was so cute! Servers were so nice, the vibe of this place is 10/10. They played Ethiopian music, the decor and book shelves. The lighting. And the place was clean, the bathroom was especially clean. I will be back!

Amazing! This was only my second time trying Ethiopian food and I loved it. I really appreciate a veggie forward vegan meal, so this did disappoint. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was great as well. I'll be back!

If you love veggies and a meal that will leave you satisfied Bunna is the place to try. They have plenty of of options and flavors to explore. The staff is friendly and helpful with any questions regarding the food and spices. Came here at around 6pm on a Saturday and while there was no wait the only option was to dine at the bar because all tables and outdoor seating were at capacity. Dining at the bar was a nice option because it was still quite spacious and private for your conversations to carry without disturbing others at the bar. They do have a cocktail menu but I do find the prices on the higher end for not much of a strong quality to their drinks, I recommend sticking to a glass of wine which is the better option for your pocket. The feast for two is a great value and will also be good for a party of three as my sister and I had a hard time finishing the entire meal.

Espris - Juice w/ 3 layers (mango, papaya, and avocado)

A vegetarian friend of mine took a few of us here because it's one of his favorite places to order take-out from. I am not vegetarian, but I am also not picky. I eat my veggies and love to try new foods! It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it just wasn't for me. I got the Beyaynetu "meal" which comes with one scoop of 5 items. It comes with sourdough flatbread called injera and you're supposed to use your hands to rip a piece of the injera and grab the veggies with it. The flavors were unique, but not something that appealed to me that I would like to have often. I am glad I tried it though! I also got the Espris drink which consisted of 3 juices (mango, papaya, and avocado). I was really looking forward to this drink, but it wasn't very sweet and it was not cold at all, no ice or blended ice. I think they just blended the fruits that were sitting out and just poured it in the cup. Staff was nice and place had a lot of seating and it was dimly lit. There is a bathroom in the back and there are 2 sinks outside the bathroom where you can wash your hands before you eat!

Omggg so good. Came here with a group of four for dinner and we got the feast for three (pictured), lentil sambusas, and extra injera. Everything was sooo delicious and flavorful and we totally cleaned our plate. The restaurant also has such a nice ambiance and the staff is lovely! Also super reasonably priced for a ton of filling and yummy food. Highly recommend, and also love their brunch!

Ethiopian food convictions: Bunna Cafe in Brooklyn Different parts of african cuisine are my kryptonite. This place is a heaven sent for vegetarians and vegans and trust me you wont miss the meat. Before anything, try the iced coffee and be there for the coffee ceremony on weekends-- it will change your life. Smooth ethiopian coffee fresh brewed with cardamom-- is insanely good. if you like hibiscus drinks, their kerkede shai is a must. - we had the brunch menu--- their ful (fava beans), alicha yater firfir (split yellow lentil mix), butecha (vegan scrambled eggs), and duba firfir (injera in spicy mix), cashew cream and injera on on the side. Okra stew was also very unique. -if you want the real dinner experience, try the shiro (ground chickpeas), and misir wot-- i nearly cried from how good it was. Their principles are wholesome vegan food that nourishes the soul. You will miss out if you dont go here! This is my second time coming and I'm never bored. Website: https://www.bunnaethiopia.net/e

The menu is stacked--sandwiches, hearty apps, macs, and cozy entrees that make you forget you're eating vegan. During my visit, they were running a Reuben sandwich special that seriously tempted me, but I went with the oyster mushroom calamari, and wow, the seasoning was spot on, and it could easily fool a seafood lover. My friend tried the seitan wings and was really impressed, even though he's usually not into mock meats. They came with super flavorful sauces and were definitely shareable. He also had the smash burger, which was a total win--savory, satisfying, and gave big diner vibes. We heard the milkshakes are amazing too, but we were too full to fit them in. Next time, for sure. Only downside? The service was on the slow side--we waited over 30 minutes between apps and mains. It's a popular spot, so some delay is understandable, but it was noticeable. Overall, I loved it and can't wait to go back with an emptier stomach and room for dessert.

I was skeptical at first, thinking, "This can't be all plant-based. What's going on here?" But boy, was I wrong! I ordered a few items, including nachos, trio empanadas, and vegan wontons. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The flavors were so vibrant and the textures were so satisfying. I couldn't stop eating! Then, I ordered the oxtail with rice and beans, steak in a chimichurri sauce with rice and beans, and a hamburger with yuca fries. I also ordered two mac and cheese dishes and a side of tostones with a garlic sauce. To top it all off, we ordered a sour sop with vodka, a cream juice, and a red stripe beer. Everything was hot..sweet..spicy and ohh so good. Those who were vegan enjoyed..only ate fish enjoyed....It was a smorgasbord of different dishes and there was no complaints. The space is intimate but the decor makes up for it..its a very instagrammable space great for date night, girls nite or just out hanging with family

Haven't been here in years! But last Sunday I decided to stop in around 8pm to grab a bite. It was…read moreso packed when we arrived, I didn't think we were going to get a table but luckily we were able to snag a table right away since it was just 2 of us. The service was good, nothing too spectacular or overly friendly but it was quick and efficient. We had a young lady that was training, so she was being guided by someone else but she did a good job. Drinks: w head the cha-ba and the passion fruit margarita. The cha-ba was a big miss but the passion fruit margarita was great! Food: we had the shrimp roll to start. It came out piping hot and was flavorful and the sweet chili sauce complimented it well. For entrees we had the pad Thai noodle with chicken and the pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp. Both dishes came out hot and fresh. The pineapple fried rice was a big serving and it was very good! The pad Thai serving was more on the smaller side. I wish I would've asked if they could make it spicy because I requested chili oil after to add to it but they didn't have. Spice aside, the flavors were great!
