Based on the three items: hula smoothie - yes- get it if I want a sweet floral snow type slush - excellent for a hot day. Poke is delicious. Served as a rectangular block 8" x 1.5"x 1.5": bottom layer is Rice, seaweed, dressed onion, avocado and fish. It's actually filling for one person. Now you must also have the katsu fried chicken sando w waffle fries. That is a chicken sandwich of its own kind. Not classic - the taro bun is INCREDIBLY complimentary - the onions, avocado and kochujang mayo is just all sooo marvelous. Good sidekicks to a good tasty mission. Really good read more

My husband and I stayed at the Andaz resort in Wailea during our honeymoon in Hawaii in May/June and visited the Bumbye Beach Bar a few times. They share a kitchen with the Lehua Lounge and have the same menu (see my separate review of the Lehua Lounge for their food choices). The food is quite delicious but we mostly just got the drinks at Bumbye Beach Bar. We truly enjoyed lounging by the pool while we sipped on our tropical drinks (the Andaz colada was my personal favorite). The Bumbye Beach Bar is located on the lower level of the cascading infinity pools at the resort and is located right next to the walk-in beach pool. So amazing! read more

Three words: lobster grilled cheese! We wanted to a little snack so we asked to split. When they brought out the plate we were thinking he serving size was pretty good. Then they brought out the other half!!! This sandwich was to die for. The accompanying fries were delicious too. Another day we had the kale salad, which was awesome! We were here for a week so had a chance to sample a few other items and were impressed each time given this is "pool food." Absolutely as good as it gets. Had an absolute blast here talking with and getting to know the staff. My wife was here for work so I tagged along for 5 nights. I spent most of the time at the Bumbye Bar, the pool, and the beach (in that order). The staff at the bar were friendly and amusing and I enjoyed all of them including Sy, Travis, "Miller Time", and Yanna, to name a few. The drinks were excellent but I have to say that the food was almost better? I had the Pork Fries 3 days in a row (forget your diet) and then ended the trip with the Poke. Fantastic! I got to watch the Niner game and eat and drink there while my wife was working. Couldn't ask for much more. On our last night, my wife was finally off the clock and we were looking for a place to eat but also a place where we didn't have to drive. It was great hearing all the suggestions from the staff. We ended up going with Travis' suggestion of Ko. He set the whole thing up for us, made the reservation, and put us in his friend's section and that was outstanding as well! Staying at the Andaz we had to try the Bumbye Beach Bar , the lobster mac and cheese had rave reviews.. We thought it was ok BUT... The dishes that really had the WOW factor was the pork belly tacos , The ahi poke and the pulled pork waffle fries... YUM! This was the best poolside bar I've experienced while on vacation, anywhere. The staff was extremely friendly. Special shout-out to Leilua, Travis, Larry and Brooke. This crew was fantastic! They are very knowledgeable regarding the drinks and the different types of alcohol. I basically got a history lesson about Tequila from Travis. Leilua gave great recommendations and was just such a friendly face to see out at the bar. It was obvious that they had great relationships with locals as well. There were clearly "regulars" that came to the bar just to visit with the bartenders. One man brought his adorable yellow lab to the bar and she is considered the bar mascot by the team. They just had great personalities and were a lot of fun. The drinks were spectacular! My favorite was the Bejing Peach while my husband enjoyed the Fizz. The Coconut Wired was also delicious! And of course, the Mai Tai is a Maui staple. Note: the bartenders can make the same drinks down at the Bumbye beach bar as well as up at Lounge bar up at the top pool. The food was fantastic! Lobster Grilled Cheese and the Pork Belly Tacos were my favorites of the week. The Pork fries and summer rolls were also delicious! They also do have a few salads and a lighter vegetarian platter if you don't want all the fried foods. The larger entrees were the perfect size to split between two people. The Fries were just amazing. The entire staff seems to work really well together. Service is very prompt and the staff is extremely helpful. They all seemed to really enjoy their jobs. The Bumbye Beach Bar is a hidden gem at the Andaz. It's offers wonderful food with no wait time and it's casual with great service. I got the crispy fried ahi roll which was delicious and the fish was very fresh with perfect dipping sauce. The best thing we ordered was the ahi poke. Served almost as a open sushi roll, the poke is a delicious twist on the classic appetizer. The poke was so good we came back twice just to order it. read more

Bumbye Beach Bar was the sore spot in an otherwise amazing stay at the Andaz. I waited a few minutes at the bar for service and left when the waiter wouldn't stop chatting with another customer who he was done serving. Later, I had Alan K. stop by to pick me up a pina colada to drink by the pool. The bartender bragged about the superior quality of their drinks and said they serve them over ice rather than blending them to avoid them being watered down. The result was the most watered down drink I've ever had, which tasted like an extremely sour pineapple margarita. I'm not sure if it had coconut milk in it at all, and only about a third of it was drinkable before it was too watered down to finish. A pool bar in a tropical location should be able to make a solid pina colada. read more

Stayed at Elua Village. We (2 adults 2 teens) ventured to Andaz for lunch at the Bumbye bar. 1. Hospitality on 2 visits: 5 stars--the staff conversed with my teens like I can't 2. Food - the "BOMB". My stay at a condo and save some money on food theory was squashed by the unique flavors, view and friendliness of staff despite us not being hotel guests. 3. You've got the "Pan-Asian" flavors mastered and my "picky" kids only want to eat at Andaz 4. Less expensive and exponentially better food than bar food at Four Seasons or Grand Wailea 5. Refined, but not "stuffy" feel like at other Wailea resorts 6. Can't say no to my teens who want to eat lunch there everyday. read more

The Ahi poke is to DIE! I loved it and would recommend to anyone. The pork fries were good too - the base were delicious waffle fries which I liked but definitely ahi poke all the way! I ordered several lava flows throughout the vacation and I swear there was zero alcohol in them so basically $17 for a fruit smoothie. We all fell in love with the Pimm's Rangoon drink. Refreshing and delish. We were so glad the server told us she didn't like Gin and loved all the gin drinks on the menu. She said they were a must consider! We shared the lobster grilled cheese, waffle fries and summer roll. This was the one disappointment as far as food for our stay at the Andaz. The first night we got in we had a basic sandwich type meal with salad and it was okay. The trouble is, if you spend a lot of time around the pool, you're sort of stuck eating there and paying the high prices for pretty mediocre food. Second meal there I had the lobster Mac and cheese, and it was all bread and very little filling. Waffle fries tasted greasy. Third meal we tried the cheeseburgers with macaroni salad. Not sure if the meat in the burgers was old or not, but we both ended up with indigestion plus my husband had other issues. I don't know how you avoid eating at this place when you stay at the Andaz, but use it only for drinks as much as possible. read more

The food for a pool bar exceeded my expectations. Drinks were just OK in my opinion. All the portions are large and my husband and I shared our meals most days. Great view and drinks! A little pricey but it makes sense with the quality. When I shared that the Paloma was the best I'd had, the server said that the grapefruit and all juices are fresh squeezed each morning at 4am! We stayed at Andaz during February and the food at the Bumbye Bar was probably the best we had on the property. We also ate at Mokapu market and breakfast ka'ana marketplace. We didn't eat at Morimoto because we had our 1 year old with us and we couldn't find anything on the menu we thought he'd eat. The one thing that stood out was how quickly we got our food! We've stayed on lots of different resort properties all over the US and we find poolside bar food to be on the slow side. I think our food was out within 10 min or so which was great for a baby who suddenly decides to tell you he's hungry with no warning. We ordered -- - the sausage dog - pretty flavorful and topped with mango and onions -open face steak sandwich on plantains and waffle fries. The fries were flavorful as was the steak. The steak was a bit sweet for my taste, but still good. -the strawberry ice cream with Mac nut cookies - SO SO SO good. We only regret trying the other two flavors. -chicken lollipops- lots of flavor. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor of the pickled cucumbers, but my husband liked them. Obviously, the food is expensive, but it's on a resort so what are you gonna do? read more

Ate at this hotel several times while in Maui and it never disappointed. The place is cool, hip and at the same time unpretentious and laid back. Creative chefs, great presentation. Stopped at the Bumbaye bar for lunch to check out the newly opened Andaz and had great service from David who took the time to call the kitchen and found out about making the pulled pork waffle fries nachos gluten free. Turns out there is a coating on the waffle fries so they were substituted with corns chips. We get there to find that the only way to park is valet. This bar is part of the Andaz hotel. Given the great reviews, we thought why not. We made our way though the lobby to the bar which is at the lowest pool level to find it closed at 5:30 pm on a Saturday! When we asked why, we were told "because no one showed up!" What?! We were directed to the other bar (Lehua Lounge) at the poolside which turned out to be just another overpriced poolside bar experience. This is a lovely setting with a fabulous ocean view. Other than the attentive service, expect exorbitant prices for mediocre drinks. That was very disappointing. read more

Staying at the Andaz, we ate here almost everyday for lunch during our 1 week stay in Maui. The food was great! Memorables include the crispy chicken katsu sandwich - a huge portion of chicken katsu with kochujang mayo on a taro roll - and somen noodle salad - delicious fried spicy tofu on bed of noodles, mango, and vegetables with a sweet sesame dressing. Staying at the Andaz. The food at the pool and bar is great. They really have a great selection. I've had the poke which is like a big piece of sushi. Really tasty and a nice way to serve it. Had the somen noodles today, great light lunch, because we were going on a dinner cruise. Wife loves the summer rolls. My son like the chicken lollipops. They are chicken legs in a hoisin sauce. They aren't dripping in sauce, but very moist. I want to get the lobster grilled cheese. I had it last time I was here and it was everything a lobster grilled cheese is when you dream about one. The food was OK, but the meal was RUINED by the amplified announcer of a bingo game by the pool. So loud we had to shout to be heard.

The bar was overpriced and the food was below average. We ordered the seared ahi flatbread and it was soggie and simply not good. The lobster mac and cheese was tasteless and over priced.
