For me, with lots of detail and a lot of worries, a decision to do our interior remodeling and large landscaping work without actually hiring a designer was definitely a challenging experience at first. But with Alan, everything was possible. He made everything we expected and wanted, and always tried his best to satisfy us even in difficult details. And, even such a minor issue was treated with a very impressive sense of urgency. We recently finished a large remodel including our entire downstairs, stairs, upper hallway, and bonus room. The work included removing a load bearing wall and completely reconfiguring our kitchen. We were given a reasonable estimate and there was clear communication throughout on any changes to the budget. As with any large remodel, there were speed bumps along the way, but Marcos and Alan worked with us to resolve any issues we had in a timely manner. Even a few weeks after completion and having received our final payment, Marcos worked with us on a repair that was needed, and it was fixed in a few days. We interviewed several companies for our full-house remodel and found Builderwell to be the company that could fit all our needs and satisfy our timeline. We first met Alan, who diligently took notes on what our main and most important areas were to focus on for remodeling. What impressed us first off was the renovation plan that every customer is presented with after material selections were made. This totally piqued my interest as it was detailed and very thorough. After receiving the estimate, BW guided us to finalize materials that could fit within our tight budget. Eventually signing on with them, Alan paired us with Mahroo, their project coordinator, who was a tremendous help along the entire process. She kept us on top of our payment schedules, helped with selecting and purchasing materials, and many many things. She was the perfect person to bounce ideas off of and help finalize decisions when deadlines were nearing; and helped reaffirm my creative design thought process. A perk to knowing what was going on at all times was the group text amongst the team that worked on our home, as well as, the construction management software that kept everyone on the same page, and of course friendly Marcos, the project manager. Did I mention our renovation took place during the pandemic when materials were starting to get scarce or raise in price? BW was patient (as much as we were) and did make adjustments (worked the weekends or after hours) to help keep everything on schedule as we could not extend our time living at our rental home. After move-in, we found items that needed to be fixed. Punch lists were created and items assessed to make it all work right. What you don't expect from most contractors after working together on projects for months on end is a respectable and amicable friendship. We are writing this review in regards to our recent remodel. The scope of work included a complete remodel of our downstairs, which included: demolition, flooring, baseboards, tile, painting, new kitchen cabinets and countertops, new appliance package, recessed lighting throughout the downstairs and new windows. For reference sake, the total job was approximately $85K with Builderwell's portion being approximately $30k. Our experience with Builderwell was lackluster, which leaves us wondering where the gap was between these amazing reviews and our experience. There are always areas for improvement with any vendor, however, as we will outline below we cannot recommend Builderwell (or said differently, we would not use their services again). Positives: - During the scoping and negotiation process, Builderwell's team was highly responsive and understood our needs. - This remodel was the result of an insurance loss and Builderwell was more than willing to assist us in navigating our insurance adjustor. - The level of efforts from their team was incredible. Oscar, Francisco and their tiling sub were awesome. They worked late when they needed to in order to get their work completed. The negatives: - Our experience deviates from a lot of the reviews here. Jesse was our project manager who we met on the first day of the job. Subsequent to that we never saw him again. We received an approximate 30% response rate to our texts when trying to communicate with him, which ultimately led us to become the project managers directing traffic with the teams in the morning as we were trying to get off to work. - We asked for a "punch list" and a soft working plan and/or timeline to understand what materials were needed, when they were needed, and what our timeline looked like. This was important in order to know what days we needed to be out of the house, when we needed to board our dog, and when we needed to have deliverables staged. We never once received this and ultimately I feel like it made the project team inefficient due to not having a plan. - Because of the lack of a project manager I found myself directing the team most mornings before heading off to work. The team also explicitly asked me to coordinate the pickup of materials (home depot runs, baseboards, tile, grout, paint, etc). I spend an inordinate amount of my time project managing this on a daily basis and answering phone calls with questions since our project manager was non-existent. - The only subs we ran into issues with were those that were recommended by Builderwell. Specifically, their cabinet sub Guilen Cabinets. We suffered over two weeks in delays on our job due to Guilen Cabinets not ordering our materials timely and then simply lying to us, our contractor, and everyone else involved in our job. Guilen Cabinets were marginally competent at best having come out 13 times total to complete a moderately sized kitchen. The number of these visits were due to incompetent installation (installing cabinets crooked, scratching the cabinets as they installed them, etc). It ultimately took an additional month after Builderwell pulled out to finalize our kitchen - but it never stopped Builderwell from asking for their retainage despite the fact the job wasn't completed. At one point during this process, we had a discussion with Alan, however, we don't feel like the communication was ultimately fixed. Perhaps their team scheduled too many jobs at the same time - who knows. Along with the above, the Builderwell team never completed a final walkthrough of their work with me nor did they finish a final "punch list." I spent an entire weekend cleaning up and touching up paint work throughout the house including painting a room which they completely just didn't finish. The amount of paint the team got anywhere but the walls was amazing (think windows, floors, baseboards, etc) which ultimately resulted in re-painting multiple times. I would highly suggest having a professional painter finish up post-remodel as painting was viewed as busy work by their team. Lastly, one of the most frustrating experiences here was the sheer oversight of simple items. Examples: * The team canceled/terminated the wires for our doorbell and buried them in the wall; * The team and cabinet sub both played "hot potato" on the installation of our under cabinet lighting. Ultimately, they left hot wires running out from the cabinets and I had to complete the work myself. This would have been a perfect situation to process a change order and perform a simple installation while they were out; and * Our mantle was damaged during the remodel and they simply didn't address it. I ultimately had to hire another contractor to do this work for me during the remodel. Ultimately, our remodel turned out ok but I don't believe the five star average here is fair. A little planning and a little communication could have made a massive difference. read more

Builderwell is our GO-TO company for all our home remodeling needs. Over the past couple of years, they have remodeled our fireplace, guest bathroom, master bathroom, master bedroom and master closets. Because we run a business out of our home, we only take on individual room projects at a time instead of a full house remodel and Builderwell has accommodated each project separately for us. Several contractors we reached out to wouldn't take on a project unless it was a very large dollar amount or a multi-room job, but Builderwell provided us with several quote options to work within our budget and didn't require a full house remodel to get the job done. Our recent project was our master bedroom and bathroom remodel, which turned out beautifully. It's modern and bright with plenty of storage that we desperately needed. Initially we weren't sure we needed a designer to help pull everything together, as we had already picked out a lot of the materials we liked and had a pretty good idea of how we wanted the rooms to look, but after the designer, Negin, came out and evaluated the property, she put together several design options we didn't even think about and settled on something even better than we imagined within our budget that fit our needs perfectly. Negin was an integral part of the entire process. We coordinated everything with her in terms of the design style and materials needed. She completely guided us through the process and we're so happy we had the help from a designer that we initially thought we didn't need. Our foreman, Jesse, was also great to work with. He always showed up on time, made sure the area was clean at the end of the workday and pointed out things we missed in terms of items that needed to be fixed (mostly some cracks in the tilework) for the punch list. What we've learned and appreciate most from using Builderwell on several projects is that they provide a timeline and stick with it. They are realistic with budget and timeframes, and make sure they stay on target with both. You always hear about construction jobs going well over budget and taking much longer to complete, but with our experiences with Builderwell, the job finishes on time with the budget intact. And if they are running behind for any reason, they try to make it up staying later in the evening or working on the weekend to get back on track. This is a review for major remodeling work we had done almost a year ago on a fixer-upper house. The work included complete renovations of three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a kitchen, and new piping and electrical work among many other things. The work was done in 7 weeks and Alan is very pleasant to work with. However, we are most impressed by the contractor's commitment to make our home look beautiful. Almost one year later, they returned to repair several piping and electrical flaws (as expected, nothing is perfect in a major remodel of an old home), with no questions asked. Some contractors want you to believe they care about your home but they disappear after it's done. But Alan truly cares and stands by his work. Keep an eye out for work performed too quickly- they're so fast that sometimes they proceed not as you intended. But they're always trying to make things right and how you want it. Mike and his team did a fantastic job on the bathroom remodeling. They got hired to completely tear out and rebuild our master bathroom that was demolished after a water leakage. One of my favorite things about visiting family in Tustin is that I get to meet some great people. My aunt was having her kitchen remodeled and Mike was her project manager. Of course I remember her awful 70s style kitchen and all the years she talked about getting that kitchen remodeled. I just had my bathroom remodeled by BuilderWell and they did a wonderful job. I consider myself a very particular, detailed person and they understood my high expectations. Ehsan was very responsive during the pre and post sales portions of the project and Alan did an excellent job as the overall project manager. They also had additional suggestions to make the remodel even better. Way to go by suggesting a fan that also has a wifi connection to stream music! Another example was suggesting that I purchase a large frame for my existing mirror - it looks amazing! They would always keep me up to date on when their people were to arrive at my home and even gave me an update one morning when they were running a few minutes late. There were a couple of unexpected things that came up during the remodel and they were handled exceptionally well and the end results were even better than the original plan.
