I interviewed several companies to perform a kitchen and master bathroom remodel of our four bedroom luxury rental property in Newport Coast. Mahroo helped with the initial planning which included a 3-D overview of the entire unit. We then selected the custom cabinets, quartz countertops, backsplash as well as the tile and grout for the bathroom. We hired Builderwell to do a complete demo and remodel on our downstairs. It ended up also including an upstairs bathroom and hallway. Everyone involved was kind and they listened to our requests. Kian, our project manager was always responsive & had a great attitude. We needed extensive electrical work & Majid the electrician was there every day until the job was done. He was also always kind and responsive to us & very nice to our boys. Benito and his assistant did excellent work on the extensive amount of tile work we needed ( floors, backsplash, shower & mosaic tile in several areas) and are also very polite & hard working. The boys and I also really liked Alex the painter. He's fun & did a great job. Almas was lovely to work with. She had great color ideas and solutions & she really helped us stay focused on choosing materials. We also really appreciated that she would give her opinion but she was never condescending or judgmental (I've worked with designers like that) . We just want to say thank you to you and Alan & to congratulate you on having such a great, kind & professional team. We needed a weight bearing wall and fireplace to be removed, and expand our kitchen into our living room based on an open space concept. I had high hopes for this company, but working with BuilderWell on our kitchen remodel was a nightmare. We started with Ehsan, who was a dream. He provided a quote and worked through every detail imaginable to secure our contract. However, once payment was made and the project began, we never saw him again. Instead he was replaced by his brother Alan, and one of their project managers. None of the details that we worked through with Ehsan were passed on to the team, and we had to constantly show proof of the items that were promised to be included in our cost. So get EVERYTHING in writing. Every subcontractor they sent complained about them. One even quit, over his frustrations with them. None of them knew what they were supposed to be doing when they arrived at our home. They all made mistakes and/or caused damage along the way. And Alan simply waved this off, saying they will fix it eventually. The daily updates they promise through their app did not occur. The weekly on-site visit by the project manager didn't even occur after the first 2 weeks. And we had multiple instances of their workers doing things incorrectly, and then trying to charge us for fixing these mistakes. Once for over $3,000! By the end of the project we gave up asking them to fix things, and simply left the damage, or fixed it on our own. Because they would inevitably just cause more damage along the way. They will try to blame this all on COVID, but COVID doesn't hire incompetent sub-contractors, try to skirt responsibilities, and cause damage to your property. read more

1 star is way too generous. Not sure how this business earns 5 stars. Poor customer service, and even poorer worksmanship. See photos. Spent a good amount of money with these guys. Very deceiving. Be very careful if you get kitchen cabinets with them. Caninets delayed week after week. Wrong cabinets delivered, etc...and builderwell will charge you an arm and a leg extra on the contract on the backend. Found this out when i spoke directly with the cabinet maker, as he was not even aware of that markup. Avoid Alan at all costs. He is the head honcho. A penny pincher who will feed you nothing but lies. Spark arrestors on our chimney came off twice already. Instead of trying to resolve it, he went online to screen shot some 1 star reviews to convince they are no good. LOL. And they were all from DIY people, while I paid a "professional". User error , not defective product. Asked for my venmo to refund me the $300 labor they charged. Still waiting. Don't want to honor the repair or pay up so I can hire someone else who is competent. I will not go into much detail. Message me and I can explain and answer anything you need to know before working with these people. I have stories and pictures for days. We hired BuilderWell to help with a first floor remodel for our home and i am more than happy with the end product! I had heard horror stories from friends about contractors gone bad but after meeting with Ehsan at our home and then again at their office, my mind was put at ease that not only would BuilderWell delivery quality work but that they would give us our new first floor on time and on budget! We had Bryan as project manager and then Francisco (I think?) as lead so those 2 guys were pretty consistently at the house monitoring all work and the crew. While the crew would change based on what kind of work was being done, it was nice to have those 2 guys at the house as contacts. I will say and this is no fault to BuilderWell but since this was our first remodel, we left a lot of choices up to the team and we didnt ask probably the right questions that we should have for certain aspects of the project. For example, we didnt ask for a specific day-by-day timeline on what work was being done when, so on the day of interior painting, we came home to a smelly house that we didnt feel comfortable sleeping in for the night. we ended up getting a hotel room and speaking with Bryan the next day about it. He was so understanding of our concerns and they offered to cover our hotel stay for the inconvenience. BuilderWell handled it so well! i just wish I would have known to be more involved and ask more questions so we wouldnt have been in that situation in the first place - lesson learned for sure! We ran into minor hiccups here and there but BuilderWell right-ed every wrong and handled it all professionally. We gave them a budget to work with and they said that they could get it all done within 4 weeks. I'm happy to say that by the end of the project - we stayed pretty much on budget and they finished right at the 4-week mark. living in a construction zone isnt very fun especially with a toddler at home so i'm so grateful that they listened to my concerns and finished on time. not to mention - we worked with Almas for our design needs and she hit it out of the ballpark with all of her choices. we loved working with her! the whole BuilderWell team and crew was great and at the end of the day, we are so happy with our new flooring, fireplace, countertops, backsplash, cabinets, and powder room! we'll def be in touch with BuilderWell to finish off the rest of the house ;) read more

I was concerned how the hexagon tiles would look in the corners due to the odd shape of our patio, but they did a great job of lining up the tiles. Initially we planned to have Builderwell design and remodel our whole house from painting, flooring, lighting, doors, fireplace, kitchen, and bathrooms. We chose Builderwell over 4 other contractors because their bid was clear with details and reasonable, not the lowest, but reasonable. The design phase took a long time since they switched designers 3 times. Once we had the third designer working on the plan, it went smoothly considering finding the resources for the material was quite difficult right after the pandemic. We were not happy with them for a several reasons. First, the budget jumped over 20 thousand dollars from the first bid phase to the ready to start the remodeling phase, which is about 90% completion of the design, even though the scope of work did not change. It looked like they arbitrarily added costs to it with no apparent reasons. Second, we think they were pretty rude when they told us that we could not stay in our house or check on the progress during the remodeling because old people like us would interfere with the work and wanted to change / add things. They promised that we would be happy after they were done because they would follow the plan. But the plan was only 90% done. How can we be happy with only 90%? Plus if there were any issues coming up while they demolish the bathrooms, it is unacceptable that we would not be able to involve in participating in the correction process. Third, there were no mention of pulling permit even though the city of Lake Forest requires to do so. After some not so pleasant exchange with Builderwell, we decided not to use them for the construction phase. We only paid for the design even though it is only 90% complete, just so the designer could get paid since he had put a lot of effort in it. read more

We selected BuilderWell from 4 different contractors to do a complete home remodel on a fixer-upper we had purchased. Why did we choose them? 1. They were responsive, provided a quick quote, and when I requested a more detailed quote, I received it the next day. 2. They weren't pushy (like a few of the other unprofessional competitors were). 3. They said they would finish in just over half the time the other contractors quoted. And they held true to that. A new kitchen, three bathrooms, living room, laundry room, removing walls and adding walls, new ceiling, electrical rewiring and new plumbing was completed in less than 7 weeks. These guys worked so quickly and efficiently, it was hard to keep up with them. I can't count how many times they went to Home Depot and the tile store to pick up materials for us, return materials, or recommend a better product. The project manager Alan was always responsive to phone calls and texts, day or night. One word of caution: Make sure you know exactly what you want in your remodel (architect plans, products, fixtures) before they start or they will keep moving before you can make a decision. Also make sure you know what products they are using behind-the-scenes as they will use what they know unless you specify early on what you want (type of insulation, low-voc adhesives, type of paint, etc). When construction was completed, there were several "glitches" with the home (still ongoing). A leaking pipe at 9pm and one of their guys was at our house within half hour to fix it. When finding a contractor, it's hard to gauge honesty and knowledge, but we went out on a limb with BuilderWell and were very satisfied. read more

These folks came off as professional, had a good review record on yelp, but they over promised and under delivered. I had a small project: remodel my washroom. Although small, the project required moving of plumbing, electrical, dryer ducting, and gas lines. If you are having any of this type of work done, get permitted. I don't know permits, but I do know that you don't drill a 2" hole in a 2x4. I was sent the 'B' team for sure. The same dude that was dry walling, was doing the plumbing, running gas line, etc. They failed inspection 2x. Part of the project was also removing a built in and filling in the space with hardwood. I told them that the floor was not manufactured any longer, and the response was: 'no problem, we can match it'...well problem, I was getting calls to essentially negotiate the acceptance of something lower quality, with the reason being 'we can't find the flooring'. In the end, what they provided was mostly close. To some it up: Project manager rarely knew what was going on, the project was quoted as taking 1 week and it took more than a month. They show up late, or last minute (they showed up to paint the laundry room 2hours before the washer / dryer installation). A licensed contractor never showed up at my location. Every task except for cabinet install, which is done by a different group, had to be done at least 2x. The have NO problem solving skills: my wife and I were often times researching how to on multiple occasions to provide ideas to them. Whats amazing to me is they knew that I have two big projects that we'll be looking at and told them I was hoping to not have to go out and bid each project...well, I'm going to have to and Builderwell will not be part of it. There finish work is pretty good, That's about the only positive thing I can say. read more

Our remodel involved filling in the large sunken living room, installing new floors on the entire first floor and complete redo of the kitchen. Farhad, the cabinets man, was amazing at what he does and took the great deal of time to help us select the perfect configurations of the cabinets. Farshid, the cabinet installer, was outstanding as well. Builderwell has army of workers who has specific skills, and they were all nice and respectful. They completely transformed our home in 6 weeks from the old school to the bright modern living space.
