I have a garden of native California plants that had decomposed granite paths flowing among them. Unfortunately weeds would take over the paths and detract significantly from the beauty of the yard (and also add to the labor involved in maintaining the yard!) The solution of naturalistic paving stones to replace the DG turned out to be the perfect one! OCIP did a beautiful job and now the focus is on the native plants, where it belongs! OCIP has completed 2 jobs for me. The first was to demo my old concrete driveway, haul away the old concrete and install new pavers. Alex and the project guided me through the process and were responsive to all of my questions regarding the impact to my adjacent landscaping and irrigation lines. My driveway accommodates 6 vehicles so the work was significant. The second job was to replace a section concrete adjacent to my pool which had been damaged through lifting and cracking caused by the roots of my 20 ft tall birds of paradise. The project manager addressed my concerns regarding the pool system, and the crew did a good job of installing new mastic between the concrete and the coping bricks. Had an awesome experience with OCIP. Was looking to demo an old in ground jacuzzi, and add new pavers to backyard plus replace the cracking concrete on driveway with fresh concrete. Started the process with Alex who came by to discuss the project and start the quote process. Our concrete walkway was cracking and pieces were slowly making its way into the pool. We were thinking about repairing the concrete (bandaid fix) or just simply replacing the damaged concrete slabs. After some research about concrete in general (strong material but tend to crack over time) + not wanting to repair and/or replace our concrete walkway every so often; we ended up with pavers as a solution and that's how we came across OCIP Co. (Orange County Interlocking Paving Company). I initially reached out to OCIP Co. back in May 2024 regarding the damaged walkway concrete. I called and made an appointment. Super easy! The appointment was penciled in and Alex showed up exactly on time. He walked around our property while discussing the goals for the project. Alex was very informative! We agreed on the life expectancy / tolerance of concrete. I told him that I wanted something as strong as concrete but a little more forgiving with movement. He provided detailed information about the materials, project itself as well as pictures of previous projects so I can get a visual of how the project will / can turn out. By the time we got all our ducks in a row (researching materials, HOA review & board approval, etc.), it was October 2024. At this point in time, the prices for the materials had increased. No fault to OCIP Co. We decided to push forward with the project. Alex arranged a meeting with all members of his team. It was great to see the entire team brainstorm and coming up with ideas / solutions for the project. During the meeting, some concerns were expressed about the project. Ideas were presented to achieve the desired goals for the project. Unfortunately, this also increased the grand total slightly. With all the price increases, the grand total was definitely over our targeted budget. I informed Alex and he worked with us (switching materials and identifying comparable replacements, etc.) to make it affordable for us. After the contract was signed, we agreed on a start date which was mid-October. Time frame for project completion was approximately 3-4 weeks. Our project manager (Frank) and project lead (Oscar) as well as the entire demolition team showed up early on the project start day. Demolition started right on time and actually finished before schedule. A lot of debris fell into the pool as expected. Most of the debris sat there until the project concluded and unfortunately the rust from the rebar stained our pool's PebbleTech. Not a big deal. The construction work was quick and sufficient. Each paver was position meticulously. The install team did a great job! Both Frank and Oscar popped in every so often to check if everything was on track. One gripe that I have... some of my concerns regarding the spa area was not communicated with the builder / installer. Since the spa and pool was partially drained, I wanted to make sure that specific concern was repaired and fixed before refilling. I don't want to drain the spa / pool twice. I had to explain the issue to the builder / installer multiple times to get the problem addressed. But at the end of the day, it got addressed and turned out great! Other than that, the project went smoothly. The attention to detail is outstanding! The project turned out better than expected and our walkway looks fantastic! My advice is to do your research and reach out when you have all your ducks in a row. That way, you won't have to deal with any price increases and sticker shock like we did. Also, make sure all your goals (for the project) are commutated with the team as well as documented on the contract prior to signing. Keep an eye on the progress and make sure everything is aligned with your goals. Our project coordinator Alex communicated timelines and expectations well, and listened to what we wanted and effectively implemented everything into the project plan and subsequent revisions. He also was very helpful with HOA requests to ensure the plan received HOA approval. Can always reach him with questions and hear back quickly. Once work was underway, the project manager and foreman were on site everyday with the crew to ensure accurate execution. We had drainage issues in our back yard and side yard, and because of that, I had a few landscaping companies come do a bid on drain installation and paving the yard. Even though OCIP was the highest bid, I could tell from speaking with Mike Skilliter (their design consultant) plus looking at the reviews and the size of the projects that this company had done that they are probably the best choice and worth the extra bucks. One thing that Mike mentioned during our earlier discussions that well resonated with me was that "you are not asking for a bid on a finished product" (like a car or something), so implementation details and contractor reliability matter, which can drastically impact the finished product's looks and functionality. AND IT DID! Plus, Mike worked with me to make the project cost fir the budget. As a very particular person with a lot of attention to details of how the project is implemented, I'm typically not happy about contractors quality of work. But during this project I learned that OCIP operates quite differently and customer satisfaction is their number one priority. No project is perfect, but what made OCIP stand out was their willingness to work with me to get my complete satisfaction. Mike, Frank, and Oscar are all wonderful people and it was a pleasure to work with this team in this project. Mike had great design ideas that complemented the projects quite nicely. Frank and Oscar did a great job implementing the project. They were both present at the job site quite frequently (everyday or so) to make sure all is going smoothly. Any issues that I raised were also addressed. Their crew was also great, very respectful and with good morale and attitude (especially Jaser, sorry for the potential typo). Overall, I can say confidently that I'm quite happy with how the project went and turned out. Not only the pavers completely transformed the side and back yard, they installed a great drain system and gave me additional entry points (drain covers and atrium drains) due to my concerns about water pooling, etc. They also installed a step at the front entry with some lights underneath which added greatly to the aesthetics. I was also watching them pretty hard during the demo to prevent potential damages to the house, but I found that they are very diligent and know what they are doing. They also made sure to stick with the project timeline, and finished a few days earlier than promised, which was great. They also did a few courtesy repairs and work, which I guess they did not have to. So to whoever is looking to pave their yard, do drain installation, etc., my recommendation is to give OCIP a try (especially Mike, Frank and Oscar), ask them a lot of questions; you should be able to tell who you are dealing with by the responses they provide!!! We hired OCIP in the summer of 2024 to redo our backyard hardscape, and overall, we're very happy with the results! They demoed our old concrete, installed beautiful new pavers, and added a new drainage system. We got bids from five contractors. OCIP wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but we went with them because of their outstanding 5-star Yelp reviews -- and for the most part, they delivered. The Process: Before work started, we submitted plans to both our HOA and the city. OCIP was responsive and helpful with a few questions that came up during that process. Demolition went smoothly -- they quickly removed the old hardscape and even took out a palm tree for us. Installation was mostly on time, and the end result looks fantastic. The new backyard has made a big difference -- we're spending way more time outdoors now and loving it. We had 8 drains installed, and after the first big rainstorm, we found one was improperly sloped. OCIP responded quickly and fixed it within a few days. Since then, everything seems to be draining as it should. A few things to be aware of: * Communication was generally good, but there were a couple of times work began without any heads-up, which caught us off guard. * After they re-sloped around the repaired drain, there were some visible gaps in the paving sand in that area. Also, the paver around the drain looked to be a different color than the rest of the paver system. * We've also noticed additional paver sand gaps in other parts of the yard. Not sure if that's expected, but based on what we've read, the joint sand should last longer than 9 months. * We also opted for paver sealing (added after the original quote). While the result looked nice initially, the price seemed high for what was around 60 minutes of work -- and unfortunately, we've already started to notice some stains on the sealed surface. All that said, we're still very pleased with how everything turned out. If you're considering OCIP, we'd recommend them. read more

The HOA approval took forever, but the team at OCIP was very patient and got started as soon as we got the green light from HOA. Once we got started, the whole project got completed within 2 weeks! AMAZING! I loved working with Shawn and Heather in creating our outdoor dream gardens both in the front yard and the backyard. First, Shawn was so patient as we waited (a long time) for approval from our HOA. Then we moved on it and with Heather's personal help we chose the pavers for the front.
