My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

We were referred to Hillside Pavers by a close friend who had completed a similar project not long before ours, and that recommendation gave us a lot of confidence going in. After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. He really listened to my concerns, took the time to discuss details with me, and most importantly followed through in the actual work without any issues. From the very first interaction with Brett and Dale to the final walk-through with the crew, Saddleback Pavers exceeded every expectation I had. I cannot say enough about how professional, communicative, and skilled this entire team is. Our project was a full backyard transformation. We had an existing moat and raised patio island that we wanted completely redone with new pavers throughout and a beautiful Santa Barbara smooth stucco finish on all the surrounding walls. It was a significant scope of work and they handled every single phase flawlessly. Brett and Dale were involved every step of the way. Brett walked us through every decision with patience and genuine expertise, always responsive and honest about what would and wouldn't work. Dale as the owner was equally hands on and present throughout the entire process, which really showed how much they care about every project they take on. Neither of them ever tried to oversell us on anything and that kind of integrity is rare. The crews were professional, respectful of our property, and clearly took pride in their craftsmanship. I attached a before and after photo to this review because words honestly do not do it justice. The transformation is night and day and you just have to see it for yourself. Cost was fair and transparent, timeline was on point, communication was excellent from start to finish, and the quality of work is absolutely top notch. We Hired Saddleback Pavers to install a driveway next to our large storage shed on our property. As well as a planter wall in front of the shed. We were incredibly impressed and pleased with the process from start to finish. Dale came to our house, measured the desired areas, and also suggested that we install extra base material because of the some larger vehicles that would be travling over the driveway. Nobody else had suggested that, and probably saved us from some issues in the future. The price quoted for the job, was not the lowest bid, but it was also nowhere near a couple of the quotes from the larger companies. Saddleback Pavers was also available to start within 2 weeks, which was refreshing. A week and a half after signing the contract, they begin the work, we had approximately 2500 ft. Dale had told us that it would take approximately 7 to 10 days, and they were done from start to finish in nine days! On top of that, everything was done in a incredibly professional manner. The fit and the craftsman was top notch, and they did the entire installation with zero cuts to any of the pavers. Dale suggested an Orco product for the planter wall, and the finished product was well beyond expectations! As you can see from the pictures these guys do top-notch work. Saddleback Pavers transformed our concrete driveway and walkway from bland, cracked, raised surfaces into a hardscape of artisan created beauty. We chose the Angelus pavers in Sand Stone Mocha. You don't need to get a second quote after calling Saddleback Pavers. As the saying goes, responsibility begins at the top and the owner, Dale Quarton, is the most personable, responsive, communicative and responsible contractor we have encountered. Dale returned phone calls and texts in a matter of minutes. He brought samples as asked, suggested design motifs on his own and came to the job every day to monitor progress. Dale let us know what was going to happen every day. To his word, all the work was completed in one week. And the bid Dale gave us was very fair. The crew worked every day and I can't say enough about them--hardworking and on the job every day. They had to remove roots under the concrete before they could begin the process of laying pavers. When finished with the job, they left our property clean. The work of the crew is impeccable, artisan level. Construction can be difficult but Dale and his crew made the process smooth and the result successful. We are thrilled with the new look of our property. Thank you Dale and crew! It's been almost 5 months since Dale and his team finished our paving project. The paved area and lightings have been gone through the super heavy rain season. Everything was in perfect shape! We were so happy that our backyard is no longer like a lake after rain! We did our homework before reaching out to Dale for quote. Dale was super down to the earth and detailed minded. He did not carry the fancy words like those big paver companies, nor did he quote with unbelievable low price that would get you sign the contract right away. He was practical. He not only focused on the style, color, pattern, sizes of the pavers that perfectly matches our property, but more importantly he designed the whole new drainage system underneath the entire paving area. From the beginning, Casey was responsive, helpful, and provided past project addresses so we could see their work in person. The price for the project was very competitive. On the first day, both Casey and Dale (the owner) came out with the demolition crew, and Dale returned twice more to check on progress. Any time we had a question, both were easy to reach and quick to help. The installation team was exceptional--true artisans. They skillfully created a rounded door stoop, half-circle planter borders, and a beautifully curving walkway along with seamlessly blending three different palette colors. I needed to repair an old cracked driveway. I received a total of 5 estimates for both concrete and pavers with Saddleback being very competitive with the others for both options. Decided on pavers due to better looks and only a slightly lower price for concrete. I expanded the job to include walkways from driveway and street to front door. Total quoted price was reasonable. The job was scheduled immediately and took a total of three days for demolition, removal of material and paver install. They removed all old concrete and some very large root systems. The work crew were quick and professional. Dale, the owner and Brett, the consultant were also professional and helpful in the design of my project. The job looks terrific!! So glad I reached out to Saddleback pavers to remedy the disaster that the company I hired before them left behind. I called Saddleback to inquire if they would be willing to take on a project to fill in some pavers in areas on my driveway where I had landscaping and a wall that hid our trash bins removed. The previous paver company had done the demo and failed to find matching pavers. Dale and Brent were able to find pavers that matched and their installation crew went above and beyond to blend the old and new pavers to give us a finished driveway. Saddleback pavers turned a nightmare situation into a dream driveway that is safe, provides the additional space for parking that was needed and looks beautiful. We had been looking for a team to remodel our backyard for more than a year, but no one we met has been as professional and as experienced as Dale. The communication was great and the entire process went smoothly. We've worked with a lot of contractors in the past and they always have hidden cost or delay the project, but those weren't concerns for us when working with Dale. The process was very fast as well, took less than 2 weeks to get the pavers done, put in new gravel, and install approximately 70 low voltage lights. Tried multiple times to get an estimate and no one would get back to me to come by. I got one initial response to my request for quote and then nothing. If you had just told me from the beginning you were too busy that would have prompted no review at all. Several companies did just that. But we had correspondence and you led me to believe you could help me out and that you would come by. Then nothing back. That's not what I would consider good customer service. I bumped up to 2 stars from 1 but you let me down by responding and then ignoring my subsequent repeated requests for a quote I just check saddleback license on the CSLB website and there not licensed for installation of artificial turf. read more

Outstanding. Really pleased with the speed and quality of their work, and the price was very good. My old concrete and tile driveway was badly cracked and warped. After getting quotes from five different companies, I selected Saddleback Pavers to demolish and replace with pavers. They started the same day my HOA gave approval, and finished the day after. So fast. And in these two days Dale, the owner, and Brett, their designer, both visited several times to check everything was done right and that I was happy. 10 Star Job!! We had our driveway done and our courtyard done with beautiful pavers. Dale and his crew did an excellent job. They started on time and completed on time. A few months go by and our old backyard fence was in the final stage of falling apart so we contacted Alex (aka turtle) who provided the initial quote for us and he came back out and gave us the final numbers and all. We ended up getting the whole backyard wood fence taken out and a new vinyl fence installed. Chris the project manager was always in communication with us and his foreman Ivan was always on site and answered any questions we had. Couldn't be more pleased with the result, would recommend them to anyone.
