Mendoza Masonry is the kind of contractor I only come across once in a couple years if I'm lucky. Ulisses is an outstanding professional. He is extremely pleasant to work with and does phenomenal work. You can immediately tell he takes great pride in his work. He naturally does things to perfection because it's just his nature. I have a beautiful Italian brick wall that needed to be cut to exact specifications for an intercom. It was a challenging job because there was no room for error and no do-overs if something went wrong. Ulisses and his guys took on the job like it was a walk in the park and nailed it perfectly. I will be the first to admit I am not easy to please and if something wasn't done perfectly it would have driven me nuts but I couldn't be more pleased. My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

I would not recommend this company. Their lack of attention to detail made the entire experience…read moreunpleasant. The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

The side yard drainage issue I had is no more! That alone was worth a lot to me. The only hang up was the patio cover. We had to get a permit, and the city took forever because of limited appointments due to COVID. Carlos did his best to keep things moving along. It also took some time to get the materials. I think the price was reasonable for all the work that was done. Carlos checked in regularly, and made sure the job was progressing. Everyone on the crew was very nice when I went out to check on progress. We are very satisfied. I will not hesitate to recommend or use West Hills again in the future.

After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. The back patio was 1970s looking brown pebble tec around the pool and patio area (which was fading and coming loose), and the side driveway was painted concrete which got super slippery in the rain. I wanted something textured that my kids wouldn't slip on, and I wanted to tie the whole house together with one uniform coating. Their crew worked really hard for us, and they really paid attention to detail. The painters were super neat, and the guys doing the coating were meticulous. It was a really big job, and it took a while to complete, but they kept at it and did it right. They've even come back a couple times to fix some little things that I messed up, or that happened through normal wear and tear. I will attach some before and after pics if I can find them, but in the meantime if you're considering resurfacing a patio, driveway, or other area, call these guys first. They'll take care of you.

For the first time, I didn't have to provide any guidance. He and his crew arrived early and just went to work. When he was done, I did ask why a few things weren't trimmed, and for each he had an answer that made sense. Most importantly, I didn't have to ask him and go back and pull weeds that still remained or cut other things that should have been cut. On top of that, he trimmed my trees (small lemon and olive trees) way more than any other gardener before me, without my asking! Needless to say, if you are looking for an expert gardening service for regular maintenance, Angel is your man!

If I could leave 10 stars instead of 5 I would. This was a wonderful company to deal with. I have a small back patio that needed some work. Bryan came out to the house and after input from me and his great suggestions, Allan then drew up plans that could be easily submitted to my HOA for approval. Following that, I worked very closely with Coleman and his team with construction that involved pavers, raised planters with stone veneer, and wall caps (also great for additional seating). At the end of each day the workers would clean up the mess on the patio, as well as the street in front of the house. Always considerate of my neighbors, too. Simple Outdoor Living is great for all your outdoor living needs. It's a one-stop-shop with designers and contractors available for any job you want done. I love that with SOL, there's no guess work. A team comes to your house, takes pics of the property using a drone, and designs a plan based on your input and their expertise. It was awesome to see the plans on a big screen with my actual house from any view, and to have the ability to literally switch things up with the click of a mouse, to see if another paver, or a different fire pit, or a higher wall would look better. Really love the concept of what Simple Outdoor Living has come up with! Their approach is so revolutionary to backyard design and construction projects. The showroom is a really great experience and the staff is friendly. I've seen some of the other designs they have done and was really amazed at how fast they can make adjustments on the fly. I'm a bit of perfectionist when it comes to my property and I love how quickly I can ask for an adjustment to the design and see it happen right in front of me in real-time and in 3D. So happy with the backyard firepit that was completed by Simple outdoor living planned out for me which was completed by West Hill masonry. To be honest, it really restored my faith in landscaping contractors. I submitted an online request for a quote and the next day Mike emailed me requesting pictures of what our project wanted to include. Originally we just wanted to pull out our front yard plants and redo just the front but there is a $5000 project minimum. After deciding to redo our turf and also include our backyard, Mike came out the next week for a free in person consultation and got me a detailed quote within 2 days. The turnaround time for everything was just amazing, I've never seen anything like it. Our lot is about 3615 sq ft to give a reference point. Our project included: all the labor to demolish/uproot all of our plants including a very large 20 year old tree in the backyard + all the roots (completed in 2-3 days), redid our front and backyard turf (completed in 2 days by Backyard Golf Company), added a veneer stone and cap on our retaining wall (1 week) and replanted all our plants/installed a drip sprinkler system/installed lighting front and backyard (1 week). We have an HOA and Mike had a complete detailed plan and diagram ready for us within 3-5 days. Once HOA got back to us, the project was started within a week and finished in the estimated time frame. Workers came promptly at 8 AM and they were actively working all day not just sitting around. Very respectful, even blowing all the dust at the end of the day to keep the area clean, no garbage left anywhere. The entire project was $30,000 and there weren't any surprise or unexpected costs. Invoices are sent every week on a reasonable schedule and I just loved our experience. I'd recommend Seabreeze to anyone wanting to do their hardscape landscaping in a heartbeat!

One thing I really respected and appreciated was that the Williams give you a price and they stick to it. They don't "surprise" you with any charges and they stay true to their word. Their crew is exceptional. My mom (who's elderly) stopped by my house during construction and one of their guys helped her to the porch and made sure she didn't fall. I contacted several companies and received extremely high quotes--until I met Moe (the President) and his son Ashcon. Moe and Ashcon met with me multiple times over two days, came up with a great plan, took careful measurements, and were upfront, honest, and truly worked with my budget.
