They estimated the project would be about 4 months and it ended up being 4 1/2 months ... mainly because of permitting backlogs with the city. We've just completed our third project with Landmark Custom Landscape, and they continue to exceed our expectations every time. Tom first remodeled the front and backyard of our Ladera Ranch home back in 2013. When we bought a new home in San Clemente in 2021, we hired Landmark again for a full backyard remodel. Most recently, in 2025, we returned to Landmark to renovate our front yard. Tom and his crew are outstanding. The team worked six days a week, always arriving on time and conducting themselves professionally and respectfully. At the end of each day, everything was cleaned up and left neat and organized. Multiple neighbors commented on how impressed they were with the crew and the daily cleanup, which really says a lot. Tom truly stands by his word. This is a belated review for Landmark, but one that needs to made. I moved into my home in San Juan Capistrano in the fall of 2019 and began backyard construction in February of 2020. Tom and his team were great to work with. There were no issues during Covid and they worked 5 - 6 days a week and completed the project on budget and two weeks earlier than expected. Over the years I've made some other improvement and Tom was always there to take care of us. If there was ever an issue with the irrigation or a cracked tile, Tom's guys would take care of it. The workers were always on time, respectful of our property and neighbors, and cleaned up everyday before leaving. As a practicing Civil Engineer in land development construction, I was very impressed with Landmarks attention to detail and craftsmanship. I would highly recommend them to anyone who's planning to do a backyard remodel. If I ever decide to redo the backyard, Landmark will be my first call. read more

We were referred to Landmark by a trusted friend/coworker. I had seen their backyard and fell in love with the design and modern aesthetic. We had a previous contractor and design that we were working with and decided to move forward with Landmark. They made the process easy for us by obtaining the city and association approvals for our backyard and front yard. What can I say, the reviews don't lie - Tom and his entire Landmark team are fantastic from start to finish. From the initial bid/design, to breaking ground and completing our project on schedule, Landmark truly delivered in building out a beautiful finished product (which looks just like the original 3D rendering). We, as well as all our neighbors, were so impressed with their hardscape crew - 5 to 6 workers showed up EVERY morning at 7am, worked hard, and cleaned up after themselves. This was impressive during the middle of 2021 when labor shortages and rising costs led to many project delays, as was the case for some of our neighbors in the community. So in our initial consultation with Tom, it was important for us to know that he could start and finish our project on schedule, and he definitely delivered. Shout out to some of the awesome people we worked with: Isaac for the 3D rendering, Rania for helping us with material selection, Helen for plant selection, Eric and Roberto our project supervisors, and Fernando our softscape lead. We cannot recommend Landmark enough. They did a quality job and their craftsmanship is top notch. Like others have mentioned, they are definitely not the cheapest, nor are they the most expensive - but for the quality of work they do, and positive experience we had, it's more than reasonable and I would definitely use Landmark again for future projects. We were fortunate to find Landmark Custom Landscape after nearly making a potentially devastating mistake with choosing another local company. We met with the owner, Tom Chung, and discussed our situation. From the start, Tom was very open, honest and responsive. We were given an estimate early on with an itemized/detailed list of what we wanted. We watched the work on our complete backyard remodel from beginning to end. One of the many benefits with Landmark is the fact Tom doesn't sub-contract tract any work. Tom is able to manager the work much easier since he has complete control over scheduling and coordinating the many different aspects. Believe me when I say this is a major benefit! I've rarely seen workers more energetic, organized and respectful than the folks with the Landmark team. We were comfortable having the team on our property for the duration of the project. Our remodel consisted of a custom built in bbq island, Italian porcelain pavers, custom covered patio/gazebo with tiled roof, soft scape, custom lighting, gas and electrical underground lines, irrigation lines and other customized work. All of the Landmark workers treated us, and our property, with the utmost respect. The job was not inexpensive... but to say; "you get what you pay for" would be an understatement. We hired Landmark in March before the COVID shutdowns went into full effect to redo our backyard. This involved destruction of 1980s era brick and concrete hardscape and leveling and updating the poolside area, resurfacing the pool, building a fire pit and new BBQ area and landscaping the surrounding areas. Landmark built out the plans and carried out the entire project. Theyperformed the job professionally, safely and on-budget. Their work crews worked six days a week throughout most of the five month project and they were well managed and courteous and efficient. They followed social distancing policies. They followed up on our requests in a timely way. We did have a few setbacks on the project- mostly due to slower response times on city inspections for the pool and the BBQ overhang which delayed the project for a few weeks. Landmark worked around these delays as best as they could but there were times when we wished they had been more proactive in communicating with us about those schedule delays. Other than that. we are very happy with the work that Landmark did for us and love our new backyard. Quite the experience! Beautiful, on budget and on time! While there is no shortage of construction horror stories, there are few that leave a lasting positive impression; this is the latter. Landmark Custom Landscape was a referral to us from family members who used them a decade ago. Those yards still look beautiful and they said they had a good experience so we invited Tom to come out. From the initial interactions, it was positive. The design conversations with Tom and Isaac provided many great ideas which we incorporated with our own ideas, ultimately resulting in a backyard design that exceeded our expectations. (And yes, they did a great job being flexible to all of our design changes). This project consisted of a complete demo of the existing backyard (lots of cement, spa, waterfall, etc) and replaced that all with a large custom fire pit and seating area, putting green, custom built BBQ island, side yard with updated modern design, new patio cover and a large turf area for the kids. The expectations they set for project completion, they delivered on. From the contract being itemized for each piece of work being completed to all of the various team members, it was a great experience. Each of the crews were timely, operated with high quality work and a passion for what they do. Roberto did a great job overseeing the entire project with constant communication. Rania was a pleasure to work with on the final details and selecting materials for the project. Eric made sure all the materials needed were delivered on time. Moises and his team were solid for the hardscape and Fernando is an artist when it came to the softscape and had a solid team supporting him. The teams have been working with each other for years and you could see it in how they all worked together. It is a well run organization. The true test of any home improvement project is to ask yourself, how has the project turned out after a period of time. It has been approximately 3 years since Landmark broke ground on an almost complete remodel of our rear yard. TLDR - Landmark was fantastic to deal with. Got the job done on time, within budget and with excellent quality. Bring your ideas and they will make it a reality. Let me start off by stating I did not start out with Landmark. Instead I hired a VERY well reviewed design/build firm from another online housing platform. He was a smooth talker that sold me the moon and told me he would design me something spectacular. We focused on the design only at first, but I was planning to use him as the builder as well. When I asked if I could visit some of his work in the area prior to signing the contract, he told me sure, after we finish the design work and are talking about the build contract. Big. Red. Flag. Nearly 6 months of "design" work and almost nothing to show for it except constant excuses, being nickeled and dimed, and a lazy design drawing, I cut the cord. Told me how busy he was working on this big commercial contract. Gee, great way to treat your client. $10k spent with nothing to show for it. I start the process all over and begin talking to different contractors in the neighborhood. I walked past a Landmark job site every day as I walked my kid to school. Every day their guys were there on time. Every day they were still there when I picked him up from school. Other projects in the neighborhood, not so much. I spoke to the homeowner. He provided rave reviews while he was in the thick of it. Once I talked to the owner of Landmark, Tom Chung, he told me he would design me something in a week and present it to us. No fee. He presented a 3D rendering of our home and the proposed project. It was fantastic. This is something my other contractor wanted to charge me $1500 for. We hammered out the details, added/removed features and signed on the line. 4 months later our project is complete. The GREAT: · Tom is a straight shooter. He is honest and tells you like it is. No BS. · He really understands how to deal with the Great Park HOA, if you are in Irvine · The ability to see your project and your changes in 3D make all of the difference in the world. A different paver here, extra concrete there, a planter moved 5 ft. etc. It was effortless. They provide high res mock up photos and a fly through video. It really brings the project to life, especially before you drop a sizable investment on your project. · Rania their designer is very helpful to work through all of the millions of design choices, but she is also open enough to allow you to bring all of your ideas to her. · The hardscape crew - These guys are amazing. They are master tradesmen and attention to detail is second to none. They did not cut any corners. · Landscape crew - Fernando and his crew effortlessly adjusted everything to our hearts content, planting and replanting bushes and plants until everything was just right · Roberto was always available to answer questions and tell me what was going on or to resolve on the field issues · Landmark's Jandy pool package is top notch - All of the equipment used is the latest and greatest and he does not skimp · All of their crew members cleaned up the job site every single day. Their work ethic is amazing. Areas that can be improved upon: · Project communication - Sometimes we weren't sure what step was next, or what was going to happen over the next 1-2 days until it was already under way. This is primarily us trying to micro manage, but it is something they can improve on. It wasn't the timing of the work, everything got done very quickly, but we just wanted to have frequent updates of what was going to happen that day so we knew what to review and or discuss. · More transparency on the landscape costs would have been nice. We had an allowance on the landscape budget but we never saw a final line by line breakout. However, I believe we received the full value of the allowance, so at the end of the day don't think of it as a real issue. · Change order process could be a bit improved with clarity on billing. Mostly due to us adding and removing things on the fly from the original contract, but the details should be clear before proceeding with the work. We had a few discrepancies at the end of the build, but all were worked out amicably. Tips: · Be specific about all of the details. They are so fast, a lot decisions happen quickly in the field or are pre-determined but not specified, and may be too late once you formulate an opinion about something. · Lock in your materials ASAP - Supply chain issues are real Would I use Landmark again? Absolutely. They delivered a beautiful finished product. They are definitely NOT the cheapest. Nor are they the most expensive. What they provide in value is quality craftsmanship at market competitive cost. I plan to update in a year to see how the finishes and quality holds up, but so far everything is fantastic. Landmark had done work on multiple other homes in our community, so we knew before we even hired them the beauty and quality of their work. The quote we received may not have been the lowest we received, but after seeing his work on other homes, we were willing to pay the extra premium for top notch service, and Tom and Landmark did not disappoint. Tom gave us an amazing and well-thought out design for our landscaping project. Throughout every step of the process, from the initial consultation to the design meetings to the build-out, Tom and his team was well-organized, knowledgeable, and extremely efficient. Tom himself always made a point to be available for questions, suggestions, and design modifications, and I was pleased and reassured to see him personally inspecting the work and tracking the progress of his team throughout the entire process. I had been through this process with multiple other homes previously, and this was by far the smoothest and fastest project completion I had ever experienced. Perhaps more impressive than Tom and Landmark's efficiency, however, is their emphasis on customer service and the guarantee that they place on their work. In the months after our landscaping was completed, we did have some issues with our irrigation system, and these were addressed promptly and thoroughly. We had some other issues with some of the plants and trees that we purchased either dying or not otherwise meeting our expectations, and Tom and his softscape installer Fernando came back multiple times to replace them, no questions asked. I wholeheartedly recommend Tom and the Landmark team to design and build your custom landscape in OC area. As someone in the design and construction industry, I had a strong vision for my backyard. Several of the other design build contractors would not take on my project because they wanted to design it from the beginning. But Tom was open to taking on my project and it became a great dialogue to see how Landmark could refine, enhance the design, and turn the project into a reality. Early on in my search, I would walk the streets to see which landscaper kept their site clean, had people working, finished in a timely fashion, and produced quality work. I hired Landmark for that reason and they followed these gold standards through my project. While they are not the cheapest, you are paying for a quality, modern build and expedited construction service. In a sizable build project, there will always be corrections, changes, or coordination issues. It's Landmark's response to these bumps that make me really glad that I worked with them. There was no finger pointing or complaining. In fact, when I called for help, the team was out at house within an hour to remedy the concern. The team responded with a single focus to get the project delivered. Additionally, Landmark was committed to following the City rules or HOA guidelines. Special shout out to landmark's large collaborative team, but especially to Felipe's team for the hardscape and Fernando's team for the softscape. They literally and figuratively did the heavy lifting. Tom understands the need to rely on his team and each person played an important role. Some of my favorite parts of the landscape are the front floating steps, the fire pit, the IPE wood, the falling edge at the outdoor kitchen, the lights, and but most of all-my mature olive trees. The olive trees were a late addition, but I am grateful to Landmark for making it happen so effortlessly. I am sure no other landscaper could have pulled it off. My only criticism was that the plant selection and procurement was way more convoluted and difficult than it needed to be. This could easily be changed with a little more transparency in the plant pricing, availability, and more direct access to the nursery. Of course, if plants are not your interest and you are not controlling of every plant, like I am, then, the plant team at Landmark will have you more than covered. At the end of a construction project, there is something called a punch list. It is essentially a list of honey-do items related to the project. Other landscapers might drag this out, but Landmark was in there getting the items punched quickly. I have had other neighbors remark that they wish they had gone with Landmark, so if you have gotten this far in my review--I hope you will consider them too. read more

He put together several ideas based on a very brief conversation about our ideas and inspirations and then worked with us on tailoring his proposal to our budget. He has a great grasp on the ascetics and what worked in our unusual space. We had both front and back landscaping done at our new home. We had a large soak pool with a Baja shelf, a 17 foot outdoor kitchen and a fire feature put in the back and succulent plants throughout. Tom's crew was diligent, clean, polite and fast. Hello, Just wanted to let everyone know that Tom(owner) is wonderful. I can say that he is trustworthy, honest , upfront, and will do everything he can to help you get everything you want. I can say all of this about Tom because he went above and beyond what was excepted. All throughout the project, he would stop by check in and make sure your are happy with how it's going. It was easy to make changes as the job progressed. When it comes to the work site, all the guys work was very professional. I have never seen such a clean and organized work site. The job was for the driveway, pool, fire pit, all pavers, grass, irrigations and basically the whole backyard. As for the timeline for project to be done was right on schedule, even when there was changes and add ons. The bid might not be the lowest but it's all about QUALITY, and that is what you will get with this company. I can't say enough about how wonderful it was and is to work with Tom. I would recommend him to everyone, because my backyard is so beautiful. This is my escape to BLISS and enjoy it all year round. 5 stars rating!!!! We had our backyard done before with another landscaping company so its easy to compare the quality of work. Landmark exceeds our expectations and Tom (the owner) said to us that he built our backyard as if it was his own home. During the process, due to city's permit we had to adjust the design by cutting back the size of our gazebo, affecting the layout of our bbq structure. Tom and his crew went above and beyond to deliver us an end product with the deck extended longer in length, turn the bbq to a different angle, add more turf to accomodate the change - at no extra charge. What else? Our little plant died after 3 weeks, ok let me come back and replace it. He wont nickle and dime to charge you for little things, which I am grateful for. We got lots of compliments on our brandnew backyard thanks to Landmark. read more

Fantastic job! There are many landscaping companies that can do quality work but there are not many that can understand and implement client's vision exactly how they want it. Landmark Custom Landscaping is one such company. When I met Tom - the owner - for the first time I explained what I had in mind. He immediately pulled some project photos off his iPad that were almost exactly to what I had in mind. That seemed like a good start to me. We went back and forth through email a few times before we agreed on final 3D design. The contract was signed and we agreed to 13 payment installations. The job went relatively smooth except for a few hiccups, Permit delays, unexpected rains, Engineering stuff). But Tom was cooperative and helpful throughout the whole process.
