We had a great experience with Carlos, Carlos, and the crew. We had about 2,000 square feet of pavers and a patio cover installed by West Hills. We are super happy with the project. Our back yard is incredible now. The crew started when they said they would, and those guys worked super hard. I was amazed at the progress they made each day. The pavers went in very fast. The side yard drainage issue I had is no more! That alone was worth a lot to me. The only hang up was the patio cover. We had to get a permit, and the city took forever because of limited appointments due to COVID. Carlos did his best to keep things moving along. It also took some time to get the materials. I think the price was reasonable for all the work that was done. Carlos checked in regularly, and made sure the job was progressing. Everyone on the crew was very nice when I went out to check on progress. We are very satisfied. I will not hesitate to recommend or use West Hills again in the future. read more

UPDATE: You should be ashamed of yourselves for leaving the homeowner to finish their own concrete. Yes the appliances got delayed but that shouldn't stop you from finishing your work. Not once did you guys reach out or make an attempt to finish the concrete etching. What's worse is that when the appliances did come in, none of them fit because you guys mismeasured the enclosures. They were cut to outer dimensions of the appliances, not inner, so they all had to be reframed to fit. Had you drawn up island dimensions in the first place like I had asked, you wouldn't have such a dissatisfied customer. Everyone reading this review should think long and hard about using West Hills. These guys are the best - so professional, always on time, and they do PHENOMENAL work. We bought a house where the owners had recently redone the back yard, but a lot of the work was poorly done and the design was laid out awkwardly. Carlos (owner) and Carlos V came out for the estimate, and immediately impressed us by how many measurements they took, their suggestions for materials, and solutions they offered for our issues with the yard. We chose them over another contractor, even though they were slightly higher in price, because we felt they would be easy to work with and would deliver on their promises. I'm happy to report that we were right! List of work we had done: - covering existing plain concrete with wood-look porcelain tile - removing concrete path against house - removing bbq island & built-in firepit - rebuilding bbq island in new location with concrete counter and smooth-coat stucco - building built-up planters on both sides of bbq island - pouring concrete mow strips at edge of grass to separate the plants from the grass area - removing existing plants and grass - installing turf in the grass area - electric outlet added for outdoor TV - installing turf strips between driveway pavers The crew did an excellent job of making the new masonry tie in with the old - ex: there were concrete toppers at the base of the beams for our patio cover, and they matched the bbq counter, topper for the planter, and mow strips to the same color and thickness of the existing concrete, so it all looks so cohesive, like it was all done at the same time. The only reason these pics look a little unfinished is that there are currently gaps for plants that we plan to add later. The crews were courteous and always cleaned up after themselves. We had most of the work done during the COVID-19 lockdown, which made things a little difficult, but the crew was respectful of our wishes to keep a distance, and Carlos and Carlos were always willing to discuss things over the phone. They were also incredibly responsive whenever we had questions, and were willing to come back and fix a few minor things we asked them to change. TLDR: We worked with West Hills Masonry to redo both our front and backyards. Work is good, looks good. Communication lacks clarity and time estimates are off. If you don't care about accuracy of ETAs, definitely go for it! -- We have very high expectations when it comes to communication and accuracy of estimates, which we thought we made clear at the onset of this business relationship. When we first started the project and went over the bid, we mentioned that we would like the project completed by May 2021. We were initially told that that would be possible, with a small caveat given that things like HOA approvals and city approvals could slow things down. Understandable. It pushed way beyond even those slow downs, and we had to constantly be the ones asking for new estimates. We finally completed everything in October 2021. The work their teams did was great. They were respectful when they were around the house, always cleaned up after themselves, and very clearly cared about their work. When it came to deciding on the landscaping and shopping for pottery and plants, that was a very enjoyable experience. They understood our preferences and made excellent suggestions towards that. They do not do pool work themselves (which they were clear about) and helped us identify a pool contractor. Honestly, I find myself writing out the reasons that we got frustrated and I don't see the point in providing specifics. We were supposed to be done this summer, and we finished last month. If you're going to move forward with them, either make sure that your deadline expectations are relaxed or that you're staying on top of them for updates and new deadlines as things shift around. We understand that life happens and there are slowdowns and supply chain issues, we don't think that being kept updated on the estimated end date and ETAs for next steps is too much to ask. Also get specifics on how things will work (if you're getting a firepit or fireplace) and make sure you're OK with the plan. read more

Working with West Hills Masonry has been a pleasure from the beginning planning stages through the finishing touches. Shout out to Carlos and Angel for doing great work on-site, dealing with a few last minute adjustments, following through on my requests to get things done a certain way, and all the workers who exhibited overall high quality workmanship. For example, on day 1 of the project I decided I'd like the site of a future shed to have an outlet as well as a power source for low voltage landscape lighting. We settled on a very reasonable option that met my goals to keep costs as low as we could. I highly recommend West Hills Masonry because the customer service was excellent, the price was reasonable, and the finished product was beautiful. I had received a quote from another company a few months ago to install pavers on my front walkway and porch, but it was too high so I decided to wait. I'm so glad I waited and found West Hills Masonry on Yelp. Carlos responded promptly on Yelp and set up an appointment. He brought a catalog of pavers and made suggestions. Because his estimate was lower than the previous company, I also asked for an estimate to do the driveway at the same time. We were so happy with the estimate that we decided to add the driveway to the project. In order to decide the color of pavers Carlos had 6 different pavers from two companies delivered to our house. We also drove by homes where he had installed pavers so we could see how they looked on a larger scale. The projects we saw were beautiful and further convinced us that we had made the right choice. The installation was two weeks later. During this time he promptly answered all questions by texting or calling. He even answered texts after hours and on Sunday! He is very responsive and easy to work with. The demolition and installation was amazingly quick. Carlos estimated 7 days or less to complete the demolition of existing concrete, to prep the area, and to install 1000 square feet of pavers. Because he added more workers, the project took only 3 days. At the end of day 2 we had a complete driveway and front walkway. Only a small area on the side of our house was left for day 3. The crew led by Angel was hardworking and polite. They worked rapidly and did a neat job. It was amazing how much they accomplished in just 2 days. This was our first experience with a major renovation. We found Carlos to be easy-going when he came to our property for the initial quote. We had a general concept of what we wanted at that time, but did not have every detail planned out from beginning to the end, so we found his recommendations helpful as we presented our ideas. Had over 2,000 sf of back patio done by West Hills about 4 years ago. We sprung a gas leak in our custom fireplace gas line recently (about 3 weeks ago). We called Carlos and he came that week and checked the leak. He then scheduled a repair for us that consisted of removing two 4' x 4' colored concrete sections, replacing the whole gas line with the newest materials, also replaced our burner (was a little rusted but worked fine) with a new stainless steel version. Re-poured the two colored concrete sections, finished, cut and sealed them beautifully. All work was done under their original 10 year warranty. Needless to say we are VERY happy with the results of their work. The company and the work team are definitely a cut above the rest! The quality of workmanship is superb and the clean up at the end was spot on. Everyone spoke English, were very professional, and always on time. Carlos is very professional and he returns calls and text messages in a very reasonable amount of time. Did I mention they do artificial turf also? We had them repair some spots that existed in our front lawn from a previous vendors work. Repairs looked better than the original. He then took some time to take measurements of our front and backyard and promised to give us an itemized estimate within the week. NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN. We chose this company because of all the great reviews. Apparently not for us. Will take a hard pass on a business that is unresponsive on follow through. The lack of response and follow through is indicative of how they run their business and we as consumers would rather not put up with this kind of flakeduring the yard renovations. I can't give 5 stars as I am not 100% satisfied. They do quality work. Their grass guys are amazing and we got more space then we thought we were going to get between the tiers of the retaining walls which is fantastic as we can now use that to have an eating area with a view of the mountains. Also our driveway is now wide enough to fit 3 cars, which is great as there is not a lot of parking around our place. I am disappointed in the communication as not everything that had been discussed before starting the project came to fruition and we were so excited with everything that we had discussed at the final walkthrough, but as my mother said make sure you get every detail in writing or it will get forgotten. We had our pool removed and needed a landscaper/masonry company that could do this job at a reasonable price, do fantastic work and be willing to listen to what we wanted to achieve in the backyard and the front of the house. I interviewed four contractors total and Bryan at West Hills Masonry (who I found on Yelp!) was honest and straight-forward about what I could do and what I shouldn't do (he's a great teacher and very patient), he thought outside the box, problem-solved like a pro and he worked with me on what I wanted. There was no condescending attitude or gouging going on.
