These guys are the best - so professional, always on time, and they do PHENOMENAL work. We bought a house where the owners had recently redone the back yard, but a lot of the work was poorly done and the design was laid out awkwardly. Carlos (owner) and Carlos V came out for the estimate, and immediately impressed us by how many measurements they took, their suggestions for materials, and solutions they offered for our issues with the yard. We chose them over another contractor, even though they were slightly higher in price, because we felt they would be easy to work with and would deliver on their promises. I'm happy to report that we were right! List of work we had done: - covering existing plain concrete with wood-look porcelain tile - removing concrete path against house - removing bbq island & built-in firepit - rebuilding bbq island in new location with concrete counter and smooth-coat stucco - building built-up planters on both sides of bbq island - pouring concrete mow strips at edge of grass to separate the plants from the grass area - removing existing plants and grass - installing turf in the grass area - electric outlet added for outdoor TV - installing turf strips between driveway pavers The crew did an excellent job of making the new masonry tie in with the old - ex: there were concrete toppers at the base of the beams for our patio cover, and they matched the bbq counter, topper for the planter, and mow strips to the same color and thickness of the existing concrete, so it all looks so cohesive, like it was all done at the same time. The only reason these pics look a little unfinished is that there are currently gaps for plants that we plan to add later. The crews were courteous and always cleaned up after themselves. We had most of the work done during the COVID-19 lockdown, which made things a little difficult, but the crew was respectful of our wishes to keep a distance, and Carlos and Carlos were always willing to discuss things over the phone. They were also incredibly responsive whenever we had questions, and were willing to come back and fix a few minor things we asked them to change. If you're considering yard, masonry, landscaping...anything...you'll be incredibly happy you chose West Hills Masonry! We now have our dream yard thanks to these guys.

I Believe most of us read reviews to find out if the company we are considering using is.... Reliable, honest, timely, caring, along with a good value. West Hills scores 5 stars in all categories. Carlos Gonzalez was our project manager and from the time we made our appointment for the consultation through the complete project he always kept us informed and always got back to us when he said he would. The quality and craftsmanship these professionals supplied made our back yard beautiful. I would highly recommend West Hills Masonry and Carlos to anyone trying to choose who to do business with.

Working with West Hills Masonry has been a pleasure from the beginning planning stages through the finishing touches. Shout out to Carlos and Angel for doing great work on-site, dealing with a few last minute adjustments, following through on my requests to get things done a certain way, and all the workers who exhibited overall high quality workmanship. For example, on day 1 of the project I decided I'd like the site of a future shed to have an outlet as well as a power source for low voltage landscape lighting. Carlos discussed options with me, ranging from them taking care of the complete installation of the electrical and landscape lighting, to various options involving me doing more of the work, to the degree that I am comfortable. We settled on a very reasonable option that met my goals to keep costs as low as we could. And it might not sound like much, but I appreciated the small things, like that our yard was cleaned up at the end of each day. I had easy access to the project managers via text message, so that I could get status updates and communicate any changes that were needed if something did not seem quite right. They were always flexible and courteous with any change requests I made. Lastly, I wanted to mention that they handled the unexpected hiccups along the way very well. Things that to me seemed complicated and challenging were handled very smoothly, like my AC unit needed to move slightly, or how to create a pleasing transition from existing concrete to the new pavers along a walkway extension that was added in the middle of the project. Thank you West Hills Masonry!

We are extremely happy with the work West Hills Masonry did for us on our front yard and driveway remodel. They demolished and removed our old cracked cement driveway and walkway. West Hills Masonry laid out and installed our new front walkway and our new driveway. The driveway was with beautiful stone pavers. They installed stonework on the house as well as building columns/pilasters with stonework for new fencing. They also installed new irrigation, landscaping and lighting. West Hills Masonry personnel were neat, on time, hard-working and completed the work in the timeframe they gave us in their quotation. Carlos Gonzalez, the project manager and Carlos Vasquez, the project supervisor, were very professional and easy to work with. All of their crews were hard working and competent. Wayne did an excellent job in laying out and installing our new pathway/walkway. Carlos Gonzalez quoted our project. Our quotation for the entire project was clearly detailed and broken down with all the components of their work clearly defined. This was very helpful as we knew what we were getting and at what cost. There were no surprises. We did not receive this from the other companies that quoted our project. Everything came together so nicely and we love the look of our front yard. We would highly recommend West Hills Masonry for anyone considering hardscaping, landscaping and lighting.

Found WHM through the Belgard site. I was not looking forward to another major project because of my previous experience with another contractor where I HAD to get involved or risk shotty work. Fortunately, this was not the case with West Hills Masonry (WHM). I was pleasantly surprised that my interaction/monitoring with WHM was minimal. Be absolutely clear on what you want from the get-go and the rest is clockwork. Carlos' teams are very efficient without sacrificing qualtity of workmanship. Pricing was fair and again the quality/results were exceptional. Thanks to the West Hills Masonry team and leadership for providing an excellent experience that was relatively stress free.

Driveway- still wet after installation cleanup

I highly recommend West Hills Masonry because the customer service was excellent, the price was reasonable, and the finished product was beautiful. I had received a quote from another company a few months ago to install pavers on my front walkway and porch, but it was too high so I decided to wait. I'm so glad I waited and found West Hills Masonry on Yelp. Carlos responded promptly on Yelp and set up an appointment. He brought a catalog of pavers and made suggestions. Because his estimate was lower than the previous company, I also asked for an estimate to do the driveway at the same time. We were so happy with the estimate that we decided to add the driveway to the project. In order to decide the color of pavers Carlos had 6 different pavers from two companies delivered to our house. We also drove by homes where he had installed pavers so we could see how they looked on a larger scale. The projects we saw were beautiful and further convinced us that we had made the right choice. The installation was two weeks later. During this time he promptly answered all questions by texting or calling. He even answered texts after hours and on Sunday! He is very responsive and easy to work with. The demolition and installation was amazingly quick. Carlos estimated 7 days or less to complete the demolition of existing concrete, to prep the area, and to install 1000 square feet of pavers. Because he added more workers, the project took only 3 days. At the end of day 2 we had a complete driveway and front walkway. Only a small area on the side of our house was left for day 3. The crew led by Angel was hardworking and polite. They worked rapidly and did a neat job. It was amazing how much they accomplished in just 2 days. Neighbors driving by complimented us on how beautiful it looked and asked for the name of the company which we happily recommended.

Just added El Dorado Stone to our home, the first step in a complete overhaul to our curb appeal. Carlos and crew did a great job from start to finish, I can highly recommend them for all your stone, concrete and demo needs.

My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

I originally connected with them through Thumbtack for a sizable project and scheduled an appointment for Thursday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. The appointment was canceled just 20 minutes before they were due to arrive. To salvage the opportunity, the salesperson, Chris, texted me and offered to come the following day at noon instead, along with a 5% discount for the inconvenience. I rearranged my schedule twice to accommodate them during what was already an exceptionally difficult time, as I was preparing to say goodbye to my 16-year-old dog that weekend. Chris did arrive on Friday as promised, but a week has now passed and I have received neither a bid nor any follow-up communication from anyone at the company. Shortly after the appointment, their Thumbtack profile was also removed or hidden. While I can't say why, the timing was odd, as it prevented me from leaving a review on the platform where we originally connected. I've uploaded screenshots with this review documenting the interaction, including Chris's last-minute cancellation, his offer of a 5% discount, and the Thumbtack notification showing the company was no longer available on the platform. Our project included a full transformation of our backyard, courtyard, and side yard, and the results are absolutely stunning. Jake installed two custom fire pits, beautifully laid porcelain tile, and a customized louvered patio cover. He also helped with the placement of patio pots and selecting plant material, carefully considering sunlight, plant hardiness, and overall aesthetics. Everything feels perfectly balanced and thoughtfully designed. Even though I had a professional landscape design to start with, Jake suggested several updates that elevated the entire space, giving it a more modern and upscale look. He truly has an exceptional eye for detail and is resourceful at troubleshooting. His crew, Moi and Paco, were equally impressive. They were onsite every day from 7am to sunset, Monday through Saturday, and their work ethic was unmatched. Moi, in particular, stood out. He is incredibly diligent, knowledgeable, and professional. It was clear that they approached every step with care, always "measuring twice and cutting once." They took the time to think through details and identify potential issues before making any cuts, which gave me a lot of confidence in their craftsmanship. Jake's commitment to quality really sets him apart. If something wasn't perfect in his eyes, he had his team redo it even if it was solely for aesthetics like the placement of a pot. His adjustments and recommendations made the final result even better. This wasn't only about getting the job done quickly, it was definitely about getting it done right. The end result is top-notch, and I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend Jake Joe and Echo Homes to anyone looking for high-quality, thoughtful, and beautifully executed landscaping work. There are renovations that improve a home -- and then there are renovations that fundamentally…read morerecalibrate how that home exists within its environment. What Byron Schley and the team at Hillside Pavers delivered for us falls squarely into the latter category. Ours is one of the oldest houses on the block, my grandfather built it himself in the early seventies so needless to say there is sentimental value here, the years were told loudly in its dated facade ever more blindly as one by one and year by year the houses around us became more modern and desirable and that contrast was ever more noticeable when it became every other house on the block. Before this project, our front yard was little more than a narrow, uninspired strip adjacent to the public sidewalk that functioned more like spillover from the street than usable property. It did nothing to reflect the scale or architectural presence of our three-story, beach-adjacent home. Today, that same footprint operates as a private, structured courtyard -- a defined outdoor living space that feels intentional, modern, and architecturally integrated. The Techo-Bloc paver installation is executed with geometric discipline and clean proportional balance. The contrasting border trim sharpens the layout, and the modular patterning reads refined rather than repetitive. Where water once pooled visibly, the drainage now performs efficiently and invisibly -- The upgraded water line alone was transformative. What used to produce barely a trickle now delivers pressure so strong it rivals commercial output .The underground drip irrigation system is intelligently concealed beneath the hardscape and reemerges precisely within the base of our large entry planters. It is automated, timer-controlled, and calibrated for plant health without visual clutter. For us gardening is a foreign labor, the system removes guesswork and replaces it with precision. It lays the groundwork for what will be Madagascar jasmine and Rainbow's End climbing roses to ascend the custom trellis Speaking of the trellis -- it is a custom design by Byron himself and serves as the architectural anchor of the entire entry sequence. Its linear steel geometry frames the approach to the home, introduces vertical rhythm, and gives the courtyard presence and scale. The black powder-coated aluminum slat fencing, set atop a raised paver foundation, creates privacy without heaviness. The laser-cut gate beneath the trellis introduces texture and artistry, especially when lit from behind at night. And the lighting system integrated along the fence base and entryway is hospitality-grade in execution. The perimeter wash creates a subtle floating effect. The laser-cut gate panels glow from behind in layered depth rather than harsh brightness. With full color customization available, the space can transition from understated architectural white to vibrant holiday displays with precision. It feels closer to a Ritz-Carlton courtyard or private club environment than a residential frontage. Most importantly, the project didn't just improve appearance -- it created usable square footage. It has become the preeminent gathering space of our home. it is upscale functional living space. The neighborhood response has been immediate .Neighbors who we barely knew for years have introduced themselves. Passersby stop to compliment the change. The property now projects the level of architectural coherence it always deserved. We approached this cautiously. Prior experiences made us exacting and demanding clients. Byron handled that with patience and professionalism. When questions arose, they were addressed. The end result reflects accountability and pride in workmanship. Hillside Pavers is not inexpensive -- but quality rarely is. There is a tangible difference between budget work and engineered, finished craftsmanship. This project did not simply beautify our home. It expanded it. If you are seeking exterior transformation that blends infrastructure, architecture, lighting design, and true spatial creation -- Byron Schley delivers work that justifies the investment. The result is not just attractive. It is world class work accompanied by attentive customer service . Rarely do you see people that live by the age old idiom anymore who's motto is the customer is always right! But With this outfit that's exactly what you receive and working with them was transformative . We were referred to Hillside Pavers by a close friend who had completed a similar project not long before ours, and that recommendation gave us a lot of confidence going in. After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. He really listened to my concerns, took the time to discuss details with me, and most importantly followed through in the actual work without any issues. That meant a lot to me because I care about both design and functionality, and he handled both very well. Casandra in the office and Oscar as the business manager were also great throughout the process. They were organized, responsive, and helped keep everything coordinated smoothly, which made the whole experience much less stressful. What stood out most about Hillside Pavers overall was that they listened to our preferences and worked with us instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution. The workmanship, communication, and attention to detail were all strong, and the finished project truly transformed the property. During the project and especially after completion, we received numerous compliments from neighbors and friends, which really confirmed for us how well everything came together. I would absolutely recommend Byron, Roberto, Casandra, Oscar, and the entire Hillside Pavers team.
