Lunch is one of the best values in the IE! I would've given it 5 stars if not for the cafeteria-style feel but you don't go there for a 5-star ambiance, you go for the food! Me, it's a great bargain for Japanese food. One plate of the Japanese items exceeds the price of the lunch. (Being seniors, we take $1 off the $18.99 lunch price). Have a mix of chinese and "American" food, one of those on-demand grills, plenty of choices. Of course unlimited drinks but I only get water since I don't want to fill up on drinks. After grinding through a hard 3 hour workout, the only logical next step was to immediately cancel it out w a buffet!!! Buffet Star didn't exactly sound like a five-star life choice (and Yelp's 3 stars tried to hinder me from eating here), but plot twist..... it was way better than expected!!!!! The sushi made my husband and son happy little sea creatures, the Mongolian grill slapped, and the chicken wings were jumbo sized and fire!! But the real MVP? Chicken pot stickers!!!!! I've never seen chicken pot stickers at a buffet (bc they're 99% always pork pot stickers). Fried rice, noodles, seafood galore..... basically, carbs and ocean things everywhere!!! Food was fresh, they kept replenishing the food due to the amount of traffic flowing through. The place is laid out like they tried to seat half the city in one room (could easily seat about 250 people), but hey, at least the food makes up for the chaos!!!! Dinner pricing is pretty decent. 25.99 overall pricing is goo, especially if your with a big group and don't know what to eat. They have so many options to choose from. Been here a few times. Good service. Can be a little noisy when packed and is expected. Got my Mongolian style meat and veggies. Just onion and mushroom on beef, chicken and shrimp. The restaurant was packed mid day. We dined in for a late lunch around 2:30 on a Saturday. The buffet stayed stocked full of many dishes. As soon as one was empty it was promptly replaced. Very uncomfortable first experience with "Coco" we ended up leaving and going elsewhere My husband and I decided to give this buffet a try because we're local and wanted to find somewhere nearby. I had read the reviews beforehand. Some people had good things to say, while others mentioned old food and food poisoning, but we decided to give it a fair chance and make our own judgment. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. While we were waiting in line, the employee who was seating guests repeatedly looked me up and down, gave me dirty looks, and smirked at me. At first, I thought maybe I was imagining it, but even my husband noticed and asked me what was going on. It continued after we paid and while she was taking us to our table. When we got to the table, I actually asked her, "Are you okay?" because at that point her behavior was so noticeable that I genuinely thought something might be wrong. She said she was okay. She then gave us our utensils, but instead of simply placing them down normally, she threw them onto the table in what came across as an angry and disrespectful manner. By this point, we were both extremely uncomfortable. I want to be clear that I don't know what was going on with her personally, and I'm not going to assume that I know what she was thinking. However, as a customer, I shouldn't feel like I'm being judged or treated poorly simply for walking into an establishment. Whatever the reason was, the interaction made both my husband and me uncomfortable. Then came the food, which unfortunately didn't improve the experience. The selection was much smaller than we expected, and some of the food did not look fresh or appetizing. The noodles were dry,stuck together, and the shrimp appeared not fresh. We looked around at the available food and honestly didn't feel comfortable getting a plate. At that point, we decided not to dine in and went back to the reception desk to ask for a refund. The same employee was there, but as soon as we asked for the refund, she immediately walked away. It honestly seemed like she was upset that we were leaving and knew why we were asking for our money back, although I obviously can't speak for what she was thinking. The other employee helped us with the refund, and I still made sure to remain polite and respectful to everyone there. Before leaving, I actually asked the man at the counter, "Hi, do you know what her name is?" because I wanted to know who we had interacted with. He told me her name was Coco. She never introduced herself to us, so I only know her name because I specifically asked before we left. If Coco happens to read this, I hope you understand that customers deserve basic courtesy and respect, regardless of whatever personal impression you may have of them. You never know what kind of day someone is having or what they're going through, and a simple friendly interaction can make a huge difference. I wasn't asking for special treatment just basic customer service. As for the food, I understand that everyone's expectations are different, but personally, we were not impressed with the selection or appearance of the food. We couldn't justify staying and eating when we were already uncomfortable with the service and then weren't impressed by what we saw at the buffet. We ended up going to Empire Buffet in Moreno Valley instead, and the difference was honestly night and day. The selection was much better, the food looked significantly more appetizing, and the customer service was much more welcoming. Maybe this was simply a one-time situation, and I genuinely hope other customers have a better experience than we did. But for our first visit, the combination of the customer service and the food was enough for us to leave before eating. Buffet Star sits right around a solid 3.5 stars for me. It's honestly not bad for a buffet, and that's already saying something. They do offer a good variety of menu options. The sushi and sashimi were decent--no fishy smell, no slimy texture, which is always the bare minimum and thankfully passed. That said, not to be mean, but some Yelp reviews calling this "FRESH SUSHI" and handing out 5 stars clearly have never tried truly fresh, great seafood. This is buffet-level fresh, and that's okay--just keep expectations realistic. If you're a crab leg fan, those were also decent and not overly salty like some other buffets I've been to. One thing to note: weekends get insanely crowded, so be prepared for that. That said, during our visit, the servers were actually attentive. The plates cleared quickly and drinks refilled without having to hunt anyone down. Overall, it was a satisfying experience, I left full, and most importantly... no food poisoning . 2nd time here. The food is good and have a wide variety of food including sushi/sashimi. The reason for coming here was for their crab legs. Weekend buffet is $26.99. As provided on one of the pictures, when we arrived. The crab legs were really thin, and somewhat dry. We came on the weekend, which was somewhat busy. To my surprise, even though it was busy, it wasn't really noisy like some other places. That was great. The problem was that the ladies who would pick the plates and provide refills, I needed to keep trying to get their attention. They would group up to chat among themselves. The service is generally pretty quick and the buffet options are refilled quickly when empty. The dessert is really the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. This is a very chill cheap buffet. Let talk seating was terrible gives vibes of a school cafeteria small areas very little moving room and super hot I had to grab my hand fan it was that hot. Now The food is room temperature if you're lucky enough to where they pull out the food fresh then it's warm and hot and taste good they have quite a variety the sushi. I wasn't brave enough to try all of it I stuck with California rolls. Well the tofu stir fry had a sliver of plastic sting and my beans were too mushy to enjoy . The soups selections were delicious and the fish dish I liked Sadly the fruits selections were a miss for me , saw a fly relaxing on the pineapple slices, I Had to skip that . I think this place can potentially be good for those who eat seafood, but as someone who does not, the options are pretty limited. And of the options available to me, the quality of the food was below average compared to other Asian restaurants. They also have very limited vegetarian options. They placed shellfish next to vegetarian dishes which I think is a health hazard for those with allergies. ive been going to this place for years and truthfully, its really saddening to watch the quality go down as time goes by. the food is not exactly tasty, but if you're just looking for something to fill you up, then it's okay. however, this time in particular, i had some sushi and was left feeling a little nauseous to the point where i stopped eating a little earlier than the rest of my family. additionally, the service is not so good. sometimes, the place seems understaffed, other days it seems like its barely enough employees to get things going. at least whenever we come by, we tend to get seated quickly and everyone is pretty kind overall. as for the restaurant itself, it looks very worn and not well cleaned. our table had a few food scraps left on it after an employee wiped it down before seating us, so we had to clean it ourselves since she left so quickly. lastly, the bathrooms in the restaurant also aren't well kept, so make sure to bring hand sanitizer of some kind with you as well. you can find better buffets out there, but if you just want something filling and you don't care too much about taste/how the restaurant looks, then this is your spot read more
