A fair experience. Pizza was okay although I am not a fan of thin crust. Average size pizza. Service was a little poor with no one coming to the table to see if we wanted any more water, whether our food was ok or not. The restaurant had very few tables. Must of the seating is counter level seating which does not appeal to me. Overall our group felt like it was just an average restaurant charging high prices. read more

I like their pizza but they don't do the take out which is not really acceptable. I was there twice first time was good because wasn't that busy after 8pm in the weekday. But 2nd time when we visit dinner time was really busy and the seat was really tight and small besides each other with strangers. Not very happy about it at all. And they got 3 or 4 waitresses but no one really take charge to look after customers til the water come and take orders it's about 10 mins past. of course the pizza coming after 20 mins later. muh.....little bit disappointing even the pizza! but the service not good. read more

This place was amazing!!! Seriously, I could eat the crust by itself. But the toppings were also very unique and delicious. There were many different flavored oils to put on the pizza: chili, herb, Parmesan, Ham. The chili was my favorite. The oxtail and kale pizza was amazing, and the carpaccio needed no extra flavor, it was fantastic. The appetizers are amazing too. The service is great: they never let you go long without water. I've lived in Kerrisdale for ten year and we have desperately needed a restaurant like Bufala. Kerrisdale as an abundance of sushi and not much else. We hadn't gone for pizza in over two years because it is such a pain to drive all the way over the the east side. The pizza is amazing. We had the Carpaccio with the smoked olives on the side. I think it is probably the best pizza that i have had in Vancouver in a long time. The staff were very friendly. I liked that the owners were there to oversee things. It was great experience. We will be back. Hopefully they are more successful than the Mac and Cheese place before them. read more

Always a good time at this place. The kale Caesar is amazing and all of the pizza's are great. Can't think of one we didn't like and we have been here a number of times. Nice that they have sparkling water on tap for no extra charge ( first restaurant that I have ever been to like this). Definitely a neighbourhood gem! read more

Pizza is decent but their customer service is really disappointing. i called to order two pizzas for takeout and asked to leave out tomato sauce in one of them because i cannot have tomatoes. was told "we don't do modifications" -- no suggestions of tomato-free pizza or anything remotely "helpful". then i asked to add a lemonade to my takeout order and was told "our drinks menu is not available for takeout". this is not how i'm used to being treated as a customer and i won't be coming back. read more

Yummmmmmm! I really like this place. I have been here twice now and have had excellent food and service each time. There's a nice selection of house cocktails - the bicicletta (white wine, campari, and vermouth) is very refreshing. On both of my visits I've had the beef carpaccio appetizers, which is amazing. The meatballs and kale caesar (served with bacon, anchovies, and a runny egg) are great too. I've tried 3 of their Neapolitan style pizza's and each was delicious. They also make a mean macchiato! Trendy enough to be a great date night place if you're in the area, but also a great place to take your parentals! read more

I've been meaning to try and make it to Kerrisdale, but why leave Gastown if I don't have to...? ALAS the opportunity came when I ventured too far south on a craigslist hunt and found myself parked in front of Bufala - SCORE!! I've been back 6 times since and can't get enough. The menu is simple, classic european pizzas, fresh salads, rosemarie infused lemonade, infused oils and the beer menu is on point with local craft brewskis. There's a small list of appetizers, and yummy deserts too. Casual interior, good for groups as there's a large community table and several booths for a more"intimate" setting. The open kitchen is great for food gawking. No reservations allowed, but I've never had to wait more than 15 mins. The service is genuine and friendly. I'd suggest Bufala to anyone and everyone who enjoys pizza, great for a date, great for a family, great way to impress friends with your food savvy ways. Side Note: The salads are equally as delicious... the caesar comes with an egg yolk on top ...just sayin! read more

I came here last night with a few friends and had a great experience! At first I was a little disappointed that another gourmet pizza place opened up in the spot that used to have the Mac Shack (one of my favorite restaurants to pig out in) since Vancouver already has tons of great pizza places! But after coming here my mind was blown away. We waited 45 minutes for a table for 3 and it was defiantly worth the wait. After ordering our pizza it came in around 15-20 minutes which I thought was perfect timing. Each pizza came hot and fresh. I had the Calabria which had an amazing spicy sausage on it. It was perfect because normally I like a very moist pizza with lots of sauce which it had! My friends both had the pesto pizza which was served with ricotta cheese yum. The prices were good ($15 for mine and $20 for theirs). I will defiantly be coming back here more often. At the moment they don't do take out orders but if they did I bet their business would be on fire! read more

We had the most lovely experience at Bufala tonight. When we (me and my fiancé) arrived we were seated in a booth. The host said we came at a great time as the booths are at a premium these days. When our server came by she asked if we'd been in before and mentioned that items are served family style and come out as they are ready. That works great for us as we always share and have no dietary restrictions. The arugula and grapefruit salad was amazing and so fresh, the meatballs we abundant and spot on. The pizzas came out hot and fresh one by one (about 5mins apart.) We had a classic Margherita and then the Green Peas and Ham which the server highly recommended. It was all absolutely delicious. Our only regret was not saving room for the dessert feature the server offered as layers of vanilla meringue and house made Nutella!!! We will definitely be back as we know now why there is always a huge lineup when we drive by! read more

Been here almost a dozen times. Pizza is excellent , authentic neopolitan. Appys rotate and we love the meatballs but they usually have a rotating burrata feature that's really good. Great for kids and nice and casual. Not a huge dessert menu but usually don't need as pizza is large and filling. Downsides are occasionally spotty service but in general decent. One of my favourite places in Kerrisdale and really the only decent place for authentic straight from Naples pizza on the west side (or west of commercial and not downtown ). read more

Bufala, you outdid yourselves last night. I wanted an easy-going, delicious restaurant for my birthday celebration, and my experience did not disappoint. For a group of 6, we waited maybe 20 minutes while a table opened up, no problem at all. You can even have a drink while you're waiting inside! Every interaction with staff was friendly and helpful. Got a few appies to start - the Kale Caesar salad was SO delicious, as were the smoked olives (a Wildebeest classic) and the simple prosciutto wrapped grissini. We then got 4 pizzas for the 6 of us to share (a perfect amount). Classic Margherita with anchovies, Funghi, Balsamic Prosciutto and Finocchiona. I actually couldn't decide on a favorite - they were all THAT good! Topped off with a piece of their delicious homemade Hazelnut Cheesecake to share, it was the perfect evening. If u give them a credit card what difference does it make? They r just being snotty! I went there a week or so a go and I personally had a really bad experience. There is nothing there for vegetarians other than a ONE pizza & ONE salad other than there is no other vegetarian options. And they won't change the menu for you, lets say you ordered a salad and you want to add cheese, because you know you will like it more this way, they are not willing to do that for you because the chef IS NOT WILLING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES to alter his dish!!! I didn't have a good experience I would not recommend it especially if you are a vegetarian. Plus its kinda pricy for what it is. The food is incredible, every pizza, salad etc. that we have tried has been perfect. However, the customer service, particularly the female server looked angry the entire time she served us. She was rather rude, no smile, not even a "thank-you" since we were quite cordial with her the entire time. When she brought over the debit machine for us to pay, she didn't say one word to us. We thanked her, she just had a smug look on her face...crickets! It was so awkward and off putting. We still tipped her well as I do have a soft spot for servers since I worked as a server for many years and know the struggle. However, there were only 3 tables in the restaurant and it was the beginning of her shift, so not sure why she was so unpleasant. we had three pies tonight and all were tasty - though the dough/crust was a little thicker than we generally like. (also more blistering please!) overall i would say that if you live in the area it's a good place to get a decent pizza but i am not sure driving there just for that - if you say live downtown- is worth it with all the great pizza close to downtown - farina, that joint on victoria drive, roma, campagnolo - barbarella used to be on that list until the investors fired the big fella who was a pizza magician. and beware the affogato is served like somewhat of a child's portion. delicious but small. read more

Ate here a couple days ago, could be a great date spot. Food was amazing, loved the atmosphere. However, the service was enough to make us not come back. We were served by a dark haired middle aged woman who seemed pretty knowledgable but was flippant and rude throughout the entire service. I'm updating my review. I love the food, but the service is bad. The last time I went, each person in my party ordered a pizza, and mine came so much later than all the others that I had them pack it up to go, as everyone else was finished eating. I asked several times if it was ready yet, and they said it was "almost ready." Furthermore, they brought the wrong one! I have gotten that specific pizza before because I like it, and the one they brought wasn't the same one at all. I asked the server, and she flippantly told me it was correct. Thank goodness - thin crust pizza in Kerrisdale! Love the meatballs, don't really love the bison carpaccio. Pizza is really great but if you do takeout, you miss out on the awesome flavored oil they provide for you to garnish the pizza and drizzle on your crust. This place is a bit far out, but worth the visit if you like trying out different types of pizza. They do thin crust here, and provide you with four different types of oils - ham, Parmesan, garlic, and chili. If you have any friends who can't eat cow's milk/cheese, this may be a good option, as the Calabria pizza is made of manchego, and there are a few yummy starters that can be shared - the gnocchi is creamy with goat cheese and a definite must to try, and the seared squid and sausage salad is also very good. read more

There are very few decent restaurants in Kerrisdale. This one is a really nice addition to the neighbourhood. My family goes here often and we have yet to be disappointed. Dearest Bufala, I have visited your restaurant on numerous occasions since you first opened. I have loved going to your restaurant every time. Your service is on point! And your food is 5star quality! However, on my most recent visit. I was EXTREMELY let down (sad face now). The restaurant was mildly busy, a bit noisy, but that's Bufala! :) However, service this time was beyond appalling! The waitress visited us after a while of waiting, we ordered our drinks, received them after a while. And drank some of our drinks. For our table of three, we all each ordered once alcoholic beverage as we wanted to keep our end bill down more. We wanted to enjoy our one drink over our entire meal, slowly. We began a conversation at our table whilst waiting for our server to come back to take our food order. We waited nearly 40mins in total. We thought she would come by after maybe 15mins max. At this point we were 50% through our single alcohol beverage for our dinner. We felt awkward to have to call our waitress over to order (this isn't red robins after all!). Our waitress tended to her other tables fine, conversing with them (I get it, I like it, be friendly with your customers). But we were fully IGNORED. I tried numerous times to look at the waitress to engage the idea we were waiting. But she would quickly turn her head away and avoid us. Further more. Once we finally were able to order. She told us she didn't come sooner to take our order as she didn't want to interrupt our conversation. I'm sorry, but I and my family are here to eat!!! Interrupt us! Or we could be sat there for hours waiting! Surely you would have learnt the adequate way to approach customers waiting for food who are conversing? What. You expect us to be quiet and wait? Does quiet = I want food? For the rest of our meal you ignored us more. You lightly passed us to ask us how are food was, but before we could say anything you had already walked away. Furrtherrrr more. You got one of our drinks wrong. That was okay. Mistakes happen. But when you keep joking about it, saying, "oh you don't want that drink?" It gets a bit tiring. Even more tiring was how during our meal, when I finished my plate you came by and asked to take my plate away whilst I was talking to my table. PLEASE learn that it is extremely RUDE to take someone's plate away whilst everyone else is still eating! How awkward is that?!?!! If one person on the table is still eating and everyone else has no plate left infront of them, how awkward does that look? We're not in a rush to get out. But we felt rushed by you whilst we were eating. You offered to take our salad plate away when it was clearly not finished. Could you please take plates away when dishes are finished? Or if we ask? Lastly. Waiting for our bill was ridiculous. Ignored for ages once more. Had to call for the bill. Wasn't even asked how the meal was! I will go back to Bufala in the future. Food was good again. But service was awful. Even in busy situations I have seen you guys handle it like pros. But the other night was the worst. We were embarrassed having to call the waitress numerous times as we weren't checked on promptly or enough for the matter. Please step it up. Love that there's a good, on-trend restaurant in this 'hood' Love the food (though time to ditch the English peas as the seasonal accompaniment with the burrata plate please!) We always really enjoy our food and like the wine list as well. Service can be a wee bit hit or miss, but generally, we get great service and we love the server that also works for the airline's part time. She's great and makes great wine suggestions. I would like to see a nice green salad on the menu this summer. I would order it with my pizza for sure. Sometimes the other salad items feel like an appetizer course, rather then an accomnaiment. This is my favourite pizza place in all of Vancouver! In addition to the city's best tasting hand made pizza they offer appetizer salads that are among the tastiest anywhere, it's really difficult to choose as they're all so good a true decision dilemma. There are at least 3 or 4 other Vancouver spots which serve significantly better authentic Neapolitan style pizza for half the price. Menu selection is also somewhat limited. I am a true fan of Bufala, I've been to this pizza place at least 5 times, each time I bring back a new group of friends and family because they want to know why I rave about it so much. My usual pizza's are the: Funghi (BEST MUSHROOM PIZZA EVER- not soggy, and perfectly paired with the cheese and watercress), and Pesto Ricotta! The restaurant has a very relaxed vibe, kid friendly, and the service is ok. However... This past Saturday (March 7th, 2015), I had a very unpleasant and off-putting experience. When we arrived we were greeted, seated, and served by a wonderful gentleman that took care of our questions and requests very well. ( One of my aunts does not eat onions or garlic so we requested we have the pesto served on the side for the pesto ricotta pizza- he was very accomodating.) We also tried the feature of the day- Parmesan Souffle-recommended by the gentelman-and it was delicious. The servers checked up on us periodically. Everything was great up until we paid our bill. My aunt (visiting from HongKong) was treating, she paid with five 2001 series $10 bills (1st edition of the dark purple paper notes). The original gentleman took our payment and walked away (we did not ask for change). We sat for another 5 mins waiting for the other guest to use the restroom, when a female server walked over with our payment and said: "we cannot accept this payment because these bills are fake!" (She was also holding a 2004-2006 $5 bill series to use as proof to compare with me.) I asked to see examine the bills and I noted the security feature of the 2001 series and told her these are not fake bills. (Reference: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes/bank-note-series/canadian-journey/) As she was waving the 2004 $5 bill she said the $10's are fake because it doesnt have the metallic stripe, ghost image and puzzled number. I replied with: "I work for the bank and I know for a fact these notes are real, infact we obtained it from the bank and I'm sure they will accept it if we took it back. My notes does not have the same security features because it's the series before that, it has raised ink for "Bank of Canada Banque du Canada", shiny gold maple leaves, hidden number, and raised ink on the 10 (right hand bottom corner). She was still hesitant and insisted that it was "FAKE", so I said "It's fine, I will replace those notes with $50 (polymer) note, and I'll take it back to the bank." When we left, they still said "thank you for coming in, enjoy your day ladies!" But I was leaving with a bad taste in my mouth. I understand from a business perspective you do not want to be scammed and checking notes from customers is standard protocol. But if the staff was properly trained, the lady would have identified herself as the manager, then she would excuse me from my table to speak to me at the till about the incident. You should never embarass someone in front of their guest, on top of that you should NEVER accuse someone of using counterfit bills. She should've worded her sentence "sorry we no longer accept old notes, do you have another form of payment that is in circulation?" Besides, any establishment that comes into contact with counterfeit bills should notify the police, not give the bills back to the person. (I can see why they did not do that, to dissatisfy me, but the truth would've been shown by the police that the bills are not counterfeit). ALSO with technology these days, any staff member could've pulled out their phones and googled Bank of Canada's website to read up on the fact the bills presented were not counterfeit. I strongly believe this was poor handling of the situation, and I deserve an apology. I was really dissappointed and my relatives visiting from HongKong had their day ruined as well. Bufala's pizza are amazing but the staff should be properly educated on customer communication as well as loss prevention/ monetary note examinations! read more

I asked for tomato sauce instead of white sauce on the mushroom pizza (i ask for tomato sauce everywhere i have pizza, like famoso and Farina and flatbread, etc.) and she said the CHEF doesn't change anything on the pizza. Huh? Im sorry, but putting a few things on dough is not that big of a deal and I've never heard of anyone saying no. She was very arrogant...i was at Cioppino's the night before and asked for some things to stay out of my pasta and added a few things. They were so gracious. First of all I must say their margins are tremendous. About $20 for a personal thin crust pizza. The restaurant is trendy with three hipsters making pizza. The wait staff is (singular) undermanned but polite. It took almost 20 mins to press, top and bake a pizza. Not worth the wait nor the price. Sure there are little details like the water in a vine bottle or the bill in a sardine tin but the pies are not much better than Boston Pizza or Pizza Hut. Way way over rated. read more
