Verdugos Food is incredibly scrumptious with rich flavors and delicious taste. I had the buttery sauce spaghetti with chicken and it came out amazingly tasteful and along with the medium rare Ribeye steak?! Oomph juicy and tenderized. On point! I want to give commends to the chefs.. that steak was mouth watering. Every bite was filled with amazing flavor and texture. I also had some wine flights that were a sorted wine for tasting. I had a side of Brussels sprouts that were actually pretty scrumptious to say the least. The staff were so cool and thoughtful.. our server was so sweet and friendly. I loved that the owner Ralph , was on the floor greeting and treating the customers with courtesy. The atmosphere was great and makes you feel warm. the meal came out so fast which I was impressed by. Overall the whole meal was delicious and satisfying. I'm so well pleased and I recommend this steakhouse for the finest steaks and meals in the whole local area. For a new restaurant that just started, I gotta give props and shoutouts to the staff for making our nights enjoyable and entertaining. From the bar-back drinks, to the good laughs, to the presentations. Our party had a great night. If your looking for a place of excellent food and atmosphere, you found the right place . A nice find in Downey. Do I call it a hidden gem steak house with good cocktails? Nice and attentive staff as well.

We had a reservation for 8pm on Valentine's Day so I knew the place was going to be packed. But I didn't expect the front to be busy with waiting people. The waiting area is so small and the service was very slow. The reservations started overlapping with others so we didn't get to actually sit until 8:10-8:15. The place itself looks ok. Kind of awkward because it's just one big space and everyone is just packed like sardines. I think playing white and black movies was weird and having multiple screens showing a fireplace - kind of cheesy. The food was not spectacular either. It's ok and avaerage but nothing compared to restaurants like Mastros. We got the asparagus which was very bland. The spicy shrimp was intimidating because they're huge with this battered coating and topped off with this sauce that was too much. A few things we did like was the Ruby Slippers cocktail. My partner said it tasted like watermelon candy and was good. Also the oysters was good but some oysters had very small potions like the shell was big but the actual meat was tiny. Overall, this place is not something to be over the moon about. Definitely mediocre. ALSO: Keep in mind the place is very loud. When we first came in, there was a live singer aka just another employee not a professional third party. It was hard hearing or trying to have a conversation with my partner because she sang too loud and too much. I just want to enjoy my dinner with a nice calm ambiance and not some karaoke night. read more

Tried out Verdugos for the first time and I have to say this place was amazing. From the moment we walked in everyone was very attentive and courteous. Loved the classic feel of the place. We wanted to have a special dinner to celebrate my daughter's birthday this past Saturday. We thought of a few local dinner houses and decided on Verdugo's based on positive reviews on the Downey fb page and Verdugo's website page. Once we were seated, we ordered drinks and appetizers. Cocktails were great and so were the appetizers. We then ordered dinner and I asked for a wine list...NO wine list! The waiter pointed at the wall and said here are our wines! I asked, do you have a Cabernet Sauvignon? The waiter said we have Josh and Decoy...okay. Dinner arrived; everything was delicious. We all had ribeye steaks, we shared garlic mashed potatoes roasted brussel sprouts and carrots. No complaints about the food. I wanted to really like this place. But sadly, the ambiance is something to be desired. As mentioned, it was a special occasion, Verdugo was a fail. I felt we were in a sports bar with white tablecloths. The best steak in Downey! Hands down! Mic Drop! Brian was about as attentive as anyone can possibly be. The staff gave me great suggestions and I went all in on the Rib Eye (Medium Rare) with garlic Mash and it was cooked to perfection. The cut was fine and the steak was marbelized similar to one I had at Del Friscos in Las Vegas. I look forward to coming here often for my Fine Steak needs. read more

First of the food is great here, with higher prices than a typical restaurant, but nothing ridiculous except for the tomahawk steak and wagyu steak. The food came out quickly, and the service was great. They seem to be building a bar and adding more decor, but overall, it's nice to have a higher-end restaurant in place of the casual spots around Downey. I would take a date to this place, I would recommend wearing some formal/casual attire, but not necessary as I went in a T-shirt and jeans. read more

Food not great, atleast not for the price. The steak was salty (prime rib). The ahi tuna (looked and tasted like it was in the fridge for a week) tower. I was offered tostadas and saltine crackers to go with it but even then the tostadas were stale. The fettuccine w/baked mussles was the worst. The cheese stench reaks and very unpleasant choice for a dinner date. Honestly the best thing was the appetizer baguette pieces w/ their sauce oil. This is our second time coming here and the first time was excellent. However, this time the experience was much more underwhelming. We ordered a steak rare and it was more well done. The mashed potatoes had no flavor and tasted watery and were dry. Our drinks were ok, but I will say that the free range chicken was delicious as well as the Brussels sprouts. My husband and I have been wanting to come here since they opened and last night we finally made a reservation for dinner. We got there and there was 2 people in the whole restaurant, We should have taken that as a red flag since it was Friday night around dinner time (7:30pm) I got the Ribeye steak (medium) and He got the bone-in Ribeye (medium rare) and we also shared a Caesar salad, not gonna lie the steaks were terrible! I wish i took a picture of everything because i could only eat half my steak, the other parts were full cartilage that i had to spit out and not to mention that half way through my husband eating his steak, it yanked his tooth out! The caesar salad was meh It's like the one you get at Disneyland that are overpriced and not that great. Our waitress on the other hand was awesome, She sang "over the rainbow" and had such a beautiful voice! Her singing and our drinks were the only good thing about our dinner experience last night but it definitely was not worth $240 to say the least. Highly recommended. I have been here four times and the waiters tend to be top notch and the food is quite tasty. I was surprised by their fries...they don't look like they will taste that good, but wow, amazing taste!!! (They use mushroom powder on them).
