Having brunch at Buddy's diner is the real experience. It's very crowded, so coming early makes it somewhat easier. Service was good though somewhat harried because of the numbers of customers. I have been to this place once before and like the food so I was eager to comeback. However, the second time I came here we didn't even get seated and we're completely forgotten about. They let another couple just walk in and take the table that was supposed to be ours. No one told them anything. I've been back twice since initially trying this fine establishment, and I will tell you it's definitely worth the visit. This is real comfort food, served like yo momma cooked it just for you, and served by the sweetest people in town. I've had both breakfast and lunch here, and I don't see any reason that the entire menu isn't fabulous. Only tip is that the portions are HUGE. Like you went to your grandmas kind of huge. We stopped here for lunch after reading the reviews. I always have to li aught when folks gi to a diner and then complain that they have diner food. I ordered the bacon cheese burger and my friend had the pastrami melt. Both came out hot and fast with lots of fries. They were juicy and tasty! Hubby and I have been coming here for years - from back in the time it was called Chubby's! With a few hiccups here and there, always good food and plenty of it. Servers are just terrific (I want some of their 'perky' pills). Great diner, was my father's favorite breakfast place. Good location off Coburg Rd in Eugene. Good coffee, best French Toast, home fries and fantastic, they have Tabasco (major importance for me for eggs), cinnamon rolls are tasty and huge but get there early or they're gone. I have been to Buddy's countless times. They have super great breakfast and toasters that are fun to watch on repeat. They have a great decor and it's very clean. The parking lot is kind of difficult to navigate. The location is great though. The atmosphere is fun. 50s to 60s feel with Betty Boop, cars and music from those eras playing. You seat yourself which is nice. The menus are just right on the table. This place was PACKED when I went but our server got to us pretty quickly considering she was the only one on the floor. My fiancé got a burger that he enjoyed a lot and fries. I got the French toast and it was thick and delicious. The batter was great! The server was very friendly. The chocolate shake we got was really good. Nice and thick. Plus I think the whipped cream was freshly made and not from a can which is a huge plus for me. I've seen this lil Diner for years, never made it here till last Friday. I wanted to get Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast, and since this was close by, I thought what the hell! The Diner is cool, themed just like a 50's style Diner would be, which is one of the stars in my rating. It didn't take long for my food, then again its B&G. They never take too long considering a pot of gravy and some biscuits that need a lil love are always on hand. I found the portion size to be great, the Biscuits were large, fluffy, not flakey...and the Gravy was Z z Z z Zz borring. Gravy is to Biscuits : Air is to Breathing ***Let this be known*** A simple country gravy and a simple biscuit will lead to a simple dish. I really think they needed to use a sausage gravy, or do something else with what they have so there's a little bit more dimension to it. If you fail the gravy, you fail the B&G. Service was the other star, everyone working was in a good mood and being friendly. I just cant award anymore stars to Buddy's until I try something that blows me away, and I have a funny feeling I wont be giving them another shot....I mean damn, you failed the B&G....a rather simple breakfast fave. I had a Reuben and it was nothing amazing, very standard. For my side I had potato salad that tasted very, blah. The burger was simple, they have many different ones that sound good but are nothing extraordinary. The milkshake was very good. Chocolate peanut butter banana was a winning combo! 50 cents extra for the banana. Service was standard, nothing bad, nothing good. This review is just for the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. My old fishing buddy Art brought me here, says it's the best in Oregon. And you know what? It's pretty damn sloppy-good. Home baked buns, melty-creamy white cheese, really good thin sliced beef, and charred but crunchy onions and green peppers. I asked for au jus too, ate it up every last bite, best I've had in years. I love Buddy's Diner. The Kitsch decor is cool too but the Philly Cheese Sandwiches are the best I've eaten -- including the ones in Philly when I was stationed in Jersey! Combine it with the ol-timey handmade milkshakes served in the stainless steel mixing container and it doesn't get any better. When I'm in Eugene, I always try to stop by here and if I have company, I definitely turn them on to it as well. My girlfriend and I recently had the philly cheesesteak and split one. We were stuffed. The service was great, no complaint about splitting the meal and they even served it with two plates, two sets of silver and the shake in two separate malt glasses at no extra charge! I would have given this a 5 star rating but I've never given one of those yet so 4 is the best there is for me so far. read more

Out of hunger induced delrium, I recently stopped to eat at this diner. I suppose I should've known it was only going to be "ok" since there was clearly a hughe 50's kitsch going on. In my opinion if you try that hard with the decor, your food lacks luster. My mom and I shared a burger and onion rings. They were the run of the mill and nothing to write home about. I just wasn't impressed. Despite the fact that we were one of the few people in the place, the food took forever. I had to remind the waitress twice about bringing condiments, oy. Seriously, it's that hard to remember ketchup? I'd say keep driving right by buddy's and look for another place with kitsch if that is what you crave. I might have to go back during regular lunch and dinner hours but this place so far was just ok. I got the jalapeno burger and my husband had Philly. Kid had pb and j. The fillings were tasty but the burger bun was stale and Philly bun was soggy. Fries were really good. Not a lot of people in there since it was like 3:00. Waitresses were friendly but kept having loud conversations with themselves and other customers. It would have been nice I'd they kept there voices down so that we could have our own conversations at our table. It was super annoying. They were talking about how big other pregnant girls were and how they gained to much weight. I'm 8 months pregnant and really did not want to hear it. Buddy's seems wildly popular with Eugene's senior population. I'm not sure I've ever seen a customer (or employee) who's not retirement age or older. But I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Buddy's. My husband loves to go, for some inexplicable reason. Perhaps it's the whole nostalgia-diner atmosphere that he likes, or the old fashioned American fare. For me, the quality just isn't there. Admittedly, I usually only get a plain grilled cheese sandwich with a milkshake, and it's okay, but nothing special. The rest of the menu doesn't appeal to me, it's fairly simple and limited, and I'm not a burger person. I did try the scrambled eggs once, but found them a little watery and fake-egg like. Not good, not good at all. Perhaps I'll try something difference at Buddy's next time, but as it stands, I wouldn't recommend this diner unless you love 'old-time' diners. (even then, go to Addi's in Springfield) read more
