When COVID-19 was blooming in mid March and places were starting to close, stores were bare, and people were freaking out, we were on vacation in SoCal. On the morning of St. Patrick's Day we were road tripping to Santa Barbara and before our Journey up the coast we discovered the Buccaneer Cafe was one of the few operations still serving up good grub to it's customers. Wow, am I happy we stumbled upon this joint. Possibly the best breakfast I have ever had. Sadly, I did not take a pic of my breakfast taco or the burrito whilst eating on a rock alongside the ocean with breeze in my hair and sunshine on my face. However, you can see those memories are still dancing around in my head and I will cherish those forever. Dreaming about the day I am back here for another great experience. read more

Love that this place was close to the RV park we were staying at and just steps from Buccaneer beach. We stopped here in the mornings on our way to watch the sunrise. The chai was delicious. I did not try the food this trip but what I saw coming out looked tasty. read more

Very cool little place across from the beach. Great tacos & breakfast sandwiches & burritos. Grab a bite from the walk-up window and walk across the street to the beach where there are benches to hang-out. Behind the shack is a dog park/kiddie playground & a free parking lot. I wish I found this place a lot sooner. I'll be going back quite a bit. read more

1 year ago I wrote a 5 star review for this place as I've been coming here for almost 10 years- things have changed. And not for the better or good. First of all...what's wrong Kayla? Usually an AM barista would at least smile and say hello or good morning. She should be in the back or working in an environment where she doesn't have to interact with anyone. One word answers and looked annoyed that I even walked up to the window. One other customer was there waiting for food- she was staring into space struggling opening ketchup. I almost reached into the jar and took my tip back- habit to throw money in tip jar at Buccs...but things have changed. The whole staff seemed unhappy to be there...the best part of working at buccs is the view, the people, the food.... Definitely not the employees anymore- they were the best. The coffee also seems to not be as strong and flavorful as it was. :( so disappointed. My child and I left with another customer talking about kaylas coldness and lack of personality missing the happy vibes Buccaneer cafe always brought. You gotta serve coffee with a smile. The only reason why I gave two stars is because my memories of this place couldn't let me leave just 1. Get out of the food industry Kayla! You don't deserve my cash tip! But hey I live in Oceanside- she can't kill my vibe! New coffee place it will be. read more

After hearing rave reviews from friends and Yelp I knew we had to check out Buccaneer Cafe. This is an outdoor breakfast stand right on the water. There are a smattering of picnic tables or you could take your breakfast across the street to the beach. The Buccaneer Cafe picnic area is very very dog friendly - lots of adorable pups- be aware the beach across the street is not. Now onto the food- AMAZING. My husband got the breakfast burrito, I got the pork breakfast taco plus the seasoned fries. We also shared the avocado toast. The avocado toast was very lettuce-y and balsamic-y. The breakfast taco was a MUST. I will definitely return to have the juicy filled taco. Absolutely delicious. The coffee is tasty and my latte was strong and perfect. My husband loved the burrito and we will for sure go back. Coffee service starts at 7 and breakfast starts at 8. Enjoy! read more

Amazing food, generous portions, friendly staff and gorgeous view! Came on a holiday (Memorial Day) around 10:15 and waited in line for 40 minutes to order. Beautiful view of waves crashing so we didn't really mind. Drinks came out quickly but warm food took an additional 30 minutes (staff did warn us). The bacon breakfast burrito was amazing and had the perfect proportion of bacon, eggs, fries and cheese. Loved the salsa served on the side and was surprised I enjoyed the French fries inside as much as I did. Highly recommend this place! Just be prepared to wait. read more

On our way home from vacation, we wanted to stop and have a quick breakfast that was still delicious. We could not have picked a better place. The sausage burrito is a smash hit! Not sure we knew how good this brunch spot was going to be given it is so unassuming but we have been going almost every weekend since! The carne asada breakfast taco with their iced coffee is my go-to; perfectly filling if you aren't quite hungry enough for a breakfast burrito. With the park situated behind and the ocean/beach view in front, the buccaneer is perfect for enjoying a delicious brunch with a view. read more

Been coming to bucaneers for like 8+ years! Love their burritos. I only get breakfast burritos from here. Best salsa ever. People treat u very nice and ur food comes out great. The only reason I am giving a 4 and not a 5 is because of a recent experience I had then my husband had with an employee early in the morning. First I had went at 7am right after finishing a 12 hour long noc shift at the hospital, not realizing they don't make hot food until 8am, totally fine! I decided I send my husband to go at 8am. I felt she was very short with us, and almost bothered that we were coming to get food I wasn't sure if she was just being short with me, or if I was just too tired to really have a clue what is going on, but my husband had a similar encounter with her... I love bucaneers but just don't want to feel unwelcomed like that. read more

We are vacationing from Florida and friends brought us here for breakfast. We were lucky enough to order before it really got busy. Prices were great and portions were large. Everything was made fresh to order. Seating is limited but the view is nice! I highly recommend to anyone in the area. My friend had an acai bowl with peanut butter which I couldn't try due to a nut allergy but she said it was amazing I know it looked great! read more

Buccaneer Beach is a community in itself with local beach front Breakfast, Lunch, Specialty Coffee and free parking in a beautiful location. we have a park for the dogs, playground for the kids and a beach for everyone. We are famous for our Breakfast Burritos, Bucc Muffs, Avo toast and Acai bowls. During the summer months we have Sunset Taco nights on Friday along with live music. What’s not to love at the beach!

History

Established in 1980.

Buccaneer Beach Park was named after a sunken spanish pirate ship that supposedly is still somewhere out front, there was a time that a wealthy treasure hunter spent a year trying to find the ship but was unsuccessful. The Buccaneer Beach Cafe has been handed down from generation to generation of Locals. The original owners were Micky and his Wife and was then bought out by the Mondero family, then Bob and Bobby, then Vicki, then Hector Reyna, then Ron Hass and Chuck Dodaro, and finally Charlie and Maria Anderson in partnership with Chuck Dodaro. Buccaneer Park is a special place with an amazing history and life long locals.

I was happily surprised to find this coffee shop and will definitely go back and even get coffee beans there.

The cookie was huge, yes, but nothing that beats the moist and chewy cookies I make myself at home, which I can't currently do since my kitchen is beinf remodeled. I asked my son on his bougie donut, later in the day, and he did the so-so hand and gave it an ok and dry. At end: we will stick to SK for service and quality.

For our first appetizer-type courses, we ordered sliced sourdough with butter and roasted cabbage - both great options. The roasted cabbage ended up being my favorite part of the dinner. It was like a Caesar salad on a juicy, tender cabbage spear with a slight char. I felt like I definitely needed to order some bread to try some element of the bakery. We got another taste of the bakery because we also ordered pizza from the kids menu. I snuck a piece and that was great. We ordered two main courses: one pasta dish and the other was a braised rabbit with morels. The pasta dish was fine but my wife and I weren't planning to share it. We had to share it because the rabbit dish took so long that I had to cancel the order. It was unfortunate because I was really looking forward to that. That was one inconvenience. The other hiccup was they didn't have any beer available because of a cooler issue. They had really good beer on the menu too, so finding that out after I ordered was a let down. I entertained ordering wine or a cocktail afterward but passed. We were sitting by the bar and the cocktails they were making looked really good. With those issues, the manager spoke with us and sent us home with a slice of lemon meringue pie to rectify. We appreciated the gesture and the service we had all night was good. I'm sure this place gets 5/5 stars most nights. It's a super cool place inside and out.
