We had heard good things about this place, but were very disappointed. First and foremost, the service was excellent. A very nice young lady, very attentive and informative. But....the jambalaya was very tomato based and just spicy hot, like it has siracha in it and not much else. Not a traditional jambalaya flavor, at all. My fried shrimp were good, but the fries lacked a lot. Might have been cooked a while. Not seasoned much if at all. My corn on the cob had been boiled to a flavorless yellow ear of mush. Hush puppies were very good. Desposito's on Thunderbolt is much better as is Castaways at Sandfly. We won't be back. read more

We were referred this place by a local fisherman and were so disappointed, especially after seeing the beach shack vibe. Our family arrived to a pretty full dining room where we were told it would be 10-15 minutes. That was totally fine by us. Tick tock tick tock several tables begin to open up and I notice nobody is clearing tables and really none of the servers are even communicating....a disinterested female bar-tender, a slow-moving younger waitress...no timing updates were provided, no "sorry for the wait" or "we'll have your table ready soon". I then start to see patrons walk in from their outdoor tables to check on their food due to long waits. We waited a total of 30 minutes when I made the decision to just leave. They couldn't have cared less. The customer service here is just awful. I was glad we did leave...I've found that restaurants that have careless staff also are lazy in the kitchen. You would never expect from the outside that Bubba Gumbo's was such an amazing restaurant. When you get seafood literally at your door step, or in this case dockside, you already have a leg up on the competition. There are numerous choices of seafood dishes on the menu and you can't go wrong with any of them. My personal favorite is their crab cakes. Be sure to get a side of hush puppies with honey butter. Arrived around 5:30 for dinner with my husband and 6 year old son. There was a 25 minute wait for an inside table, so we opted to sit outside. We waited a while for someone to come over and greet us and take our drink orders. Just a personal preference, but the water tasted funny in both Tybee and Savannah. Not a major issue as I can bring a bottle of water with me or order a Coke, but just something we all noticed. We placed our orders-trout for my husband with corn on the cob and a salad and I chose blackened shrimp with a side of grits and hushpuppies. Our orders came out quickly. My shrimp was really good. On our way back from Tybee Island, we found this place on TripAdvisor and had to check it out. Located off a marina dock, it has a quiet, picturesque setting. We started with drinks--a Bloody Mary and another cocktail--both amazing! The appetizer options were irresistible, so we went all out: Grilled Octopus, Spicy Shrimp, and Hush Puppies, all fantastic! For the main course, we ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy with fries and a Blackened Flounder. Both dishes were incredible! We knew we over-ordered but couldn't resist. While enjoying our meal, we overheard about the Hot Honey Shrimp and had to try it. The waitress and chef were super friendly and gave us two to sample. They were amazing! Not gonna lie..... I'm a bit disappointed . I didn't have the highest expectations but man, I'm still displeased nonetheless. So I ended up getting hush puppies, a crab cake and the gumbo of course. The hush puppies were great. They had a hint of sweetness to them, which I loved. This was my first time trying a crab cake and it just further solidified my feelings on not caring for crab meat. Now for the gumbo, it lacked flavor in my opinion. Not only that, but when I clean shrimp, I remove all "impurities"..... that was not the case for their shrimp which made me nauseous . Dangerous/negligent marina property owner! Run away! Visit at your own risk!! Owner unwilling to take any responsibility for extremely unsafe/negligent conditions that could lead to damage of your property or personal injury. A long metal beam fell or was left out in the middle of narrow parking area and hit our vehicle damaging it. Another car nearly hit it within a few minutes of it scraping/damaging our vehicle. I jumped in front of them to warn them just before it hit their passenger window. The owner said there was nothing he could (would) do for me because I didn't file a police report at the time. I spoke to the manager of Bubba Gumbos on Tybee and he also said it wasn't his responsibility. Neither was apologetic or understanding in the slightest! If you want a bar scene with bar food this is the place for you. If you name a place Bubba Gumbo's the gumbo should be the specialty. The gumbo did not have any flavor. Same for the jambalaya. The best thing our table had was the kid's fried shrimp. With that being said this place is NOT kid friendly unless your child is used to drunk 30+ adults shouting obscenities and dropping drinks all over each other.
