We ordered gator bites and bada bing shrimp for our appetizers and both were good - portions were big for both and plenty for all four of us with some left to take home. We tried the grilled shrimp kabobs which were enough for two people - huge portions! We also tried the grilled chicken and grilled grouper. Both were cooked nicely. The cheese grits tasted like Mac and cheese (yum) and the coleslaw was delicious. The red rice was unexpectedly sweet and the sausage side was pretty good. The green beans were overcooked-seemed like canned beans if that's okay with you. All were served with hush puppies. Tables were fitted with a hole in the center which led to a trash can. Kinda okay, but diminished the dining experience. I ordered the crab cakes and grits and it was good. The crab cakes are not jumbo lump, but good. We enjoyed our experience and the food. It was pretty busy when we arrived, as expected for a Friday evening. We were seated right away by a pleasant hostess. The website mentiined 'All you can eat', however we didn't see that in the actual menu. No big deal, just a little misleading, for us. It's pretty casual, but the prices were not. Unfortunately, neither my husband or I didn't get/remember our waitress' name. She was quite pleasant, and delivered an overall enjoyable experience. My husband ordered the Cast Net, shrimp dinner and I ordered the cat fish plate. I ordered a Margherita. Pretty good, a little sweet for me. It comes in a plastic to-go cup. We enjoyed our meal very much. The sides were just ok. We both had food for the next day. (So maybe it was all you can eat after all.) Our hotel clerk at Holiday Inn & Suites Gateway suggested we try the ShellHouse. We had already eaten, so the next night we stopped after our trolley tour of Savannah and Just Had Peach Cobbler. And holy General Sherman, it was awesome. We had the peach cobbler with ice cream, and the cobbler came out hot, and steaming with the cold ice cream ... we absolutely loved it. The Shellhouse wasn't my usual seafood spot, but it was still a pleasant experience. I went on Mother's Day, which was super crowded, but we managed to get seated in no time. Our waitress was clearly exhausted from the day, but she was still super friendly and kept checking in on us. The shrimp trio was really tasty, and even better when we warmed it up the next day. Food is gargantuan: one meal can feed 2-3. All of the food is well seasoned. The catfish crispy outside and moist inside. The crab stew was flavorful w chunks of crab meat. Well to start with the menu wasn't the same as it was online. We got our drinks pretty quick and the waiter would come every once in a while to check in. And it was pretty lively in here so that was nice but the food is the true things everyone checks these for. And it was delicious great portions filled me up quickly hush puppy's were crisp could be alittle sweeter but hey it was great! This was our first visit since they reopened and it did not disappoint. Yes, their prices at first glance are high but, every plate they serve can easily feed two people. My 21 year old son got the shrimp and oysters combo. He ate until he was full, I ate 6 or 7 of his shrimp and we still took plenty home. The fried shrimp were the best that I've ever had in a restaurant. Low country boil was delicious and I took home probably 15 shrimp that I couldn't eat. Seafood restaurants with a hole in the middle of the table are of a special and important class of eatery to me. They're casual, they're fun, and most often the seafood is fresh and well prepared. The Shellhouse is my favorite example of this kind of restaurant. Service is very good, especially at the bar. My go to dish is a fried shrimp and steamed crab leg combo. The shrimp are amazing. They taste like local shrimp, briny and fresh with breading light enough to let the shrimp dominate. The crab legs, do not local, are prepared well, meaty, and flavorful. Now, on Wednesdays, I think they have a $64.99 all-you-can-eat crab leg night. What they serve is usually all I can eat. A friend of mine who is a crab leg killer ordered it one day, but was disappointed . The all you can eat crab clusters are smaller, broken, and generally more difficult to eat. He says from now on, he will stick with the normal combos. The meal is also a bit pricey. My combo runs about $55. But I can eat my fill, share shrimp with a friend, and still take a satisfying portion home to my Mom. So it's worth it a few times a year. I recommend the Shellhouse. They experienced a fire during the pandemic, and it took months for them to reopen. I'm so glad they're back! read more

I have been coming here since it first opened years ago. One thing about it, the quality is always consistent. One of the few seafood restaurants in Savannah that can say that. This place has always been my favorite go to place for the best seafood. The staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and they provide great service. In the warmer months you can go out on the deck and feed the alligators in the pond. It's a hands on restaurant with a hole in the middle of the table with a trash can beneath, I like that because when I'm eating crab and shrimp I tend to get messy and I can clean the table and keep going. This place was amazing, after almost an hour of trying to google where to eat that would fit the bill for my husbands sea food craving while being safe for my oldest and my celiacs I finally told my husband that I didn't care where we went as long as it was close to our hotel. They have a whole gluten free menu which my daughter and I ordered from. Everyone was extremely happy with our dinners, and while my husband said the peach cobblers wasn't his moms, it was incredible lol. I highly recommend this restaurant. Service was wonderful, it was clean, everyone seemed happy, and while I normally feel awkward when the manager pops by to check, this manager made it feel like he was checking on family. I rarely give one star. It was supposed to be a great local seafood place, as reported locally. No. It's not. The food is below average and small for what you pay. The "sausage " on the Sides menu what just a cheap, fat, hot dog. Not kielbasa sausage as stated by the waitress. The waitress was a bit attentive, but totally unhelpful when asking any question about the menu. You could tell she wanted to be somewhere else. The coleslaw as a "side" was delivered long before the main course. We finished it before the meal came. It was overly sweet and "mayonnaisey". The main plate was pretty empty.
