Took my bike in just for the tube to be replaced. Was immediately quoted a very affordable price and told me to come back in half an hour. After half an hour I came back and the technician told me the tire needed to be replaced. However, he put one on for FREE since he had some lying around. I've gone to multiple bike shops around Brooklyn and no other bike shop I've been to has been so reliable, affordable, and efficient. This had always been my #1 bicycle shop in North Brooklyn- (I've been coming here since 2010 for any and all of my bicycle needs)- unfortunately after coming here this last Sat (5.9.26) the individual that I was dealing with was so rude for zero reason that even after leaving my bicycle there, I decided there's just no way I can support that kind of customer service, returned and took it to another place in the neighborhood where the staff were down to earth w/reasonable custom service demeanors (I'm not asking people to make me a coffee or anything- just be a decent person and not an unnecessary jerk). It's sad and unfortunate because I like to continue supporting business that I've had longstanding report with but as someone who worked in the nyc service industry for years- I also can't condone inappropriately rude customer service that comes from nowhere. To the owners/managers who are reading this- I am sorry to inform you that the attitude of your workers do in fact translate into business being lost (I will be living in this neighborhood for a while and am an avid cyclist who visits bicycle shops regularly for my needs throughout the year, and there are plenty of other establishments that understand unwanted pretension is not smart customer service (is it ever really warranted lol) & that you can take your business to any number of them as opposed to dealing with mis directed attitude. read more

Each time I come here, they have been exceedingly rude (even for pretentious bros) and unhelpful. Their tune-up included the very least, and was not thorough at all. They didn't even bother cleaning my chain. When I asked them some questions about my bike, they said it's a "disposable cheap K-Mart bike" and that it's not worth fixing (it's a vintage huffy). I had attached messages that the owner sent me, and then he I assume paid yelp to have the taken down because they expose him for who he is. I guess I'll have to tweet the review and get it to more places now, with the message included. He's an angry guy who sent me gaslighting and abusive messages. read more

I chose to come to this location because of the Yelp reviews......Go Yelpers!!!! It was a little out of my way but hey when you want good service then distance doesn't matter but great service does. Upon entering the business, I was already pleased with my choice because of the cool vibe that I felt here. We only waited a few minutes before we were helped by a nice man named Zack. My son asked him questions about the business and how to go about learning the skills and Zack answered each one of his questions with ease and confidence. I can tell that he enjoyed answering the questions as well. He also gave us some valuable information as well. Zack explained exactly what was going on with his chain and why it kept popping off unexpectedly. When he finished fixing the bike, he offered to take it on a test ride to ensure that the issue was fixed. Zack said that the store has been in business for 10 years now. Zack was very friendly and personable and I enjoy dealing with him. The prices are very reasonable as well. I would definitely come back here to have my son's bike repaired. If you are looking for a bike shop that sells all kinds of bikes and also does repairs, then your search has come to an end because B's is the place to be. read more

I have been going to this shop for 5 years or so, and usually, the kind guy who's been there is super kind, helpful, generous with his knowledge. but today, i went in for an urgent repair and the Super Bearded Guy who was in there was an utter dick. Old school bike guy who was totally insulting and treated me like I was an imbecile--I think because I'm a woman. Those days are over, mate, and if i wasn't just picking up, I would have left and never given them my business again. B's bikes is one of my favorite businesses in the area.. maybe the world. These guys are always knowledgable and quick to address any mechanical issue or component I bring in. I am 'home mechanic' so I only take things to them which require very particular or specialized tools ( they have them ) or advanced skills ( they also have them ) Dealing with ' the public ' is not an easy thing, and I am always pleasantly surprised how chill they are. We are lucky to have these guys in the neighborhood and it's rare to have a place so welcoming and attentive. read more

You can tell if a bike shop is legit if they fix flats while you wait and play Rage Against the Machine on the stereo. This place does that and so much more. I recently bought a used bike here that they built up from the frame with brand new components and tires. It's a good looking bike at $360, and it's been super comfortable to ride. Ted, one of the mechanics, helped me pick out the best bike for my needs, and was super nice to me and my dog. They also have sweet T shirts that I have my eye on!! read more

I called to inquire about a bike tune-up, they gave me a turnaround of a few weeks - which is reasonable. When I tried to ask if someone could quickly check the chain of a bike that hasn't been used in a few years and if I could inflate the tires, the person I spoke with on the phone interrupted me repeatedly with "No... no... no..." before I could get two words in. I unfortunately yelled at the guy to let me finish speaking, but it was incredibly frustrating to not be able to finish my thought/question. We netted out that no one could check my chain but I could inflate my tires on my own. I never ended up going to B's Bikes, and never will. It doesn't matter how busy you are, you don't need to be a prick. I wish this was a single occurrence for you guys, but apparently there have been an influx of complaints around how rude the employees are here. read more

Incredibly disappointed with the experience I had today. Honestly it was one of the worst customer service experiences I've experienced in my lifetime. I went in because my front wheel was stolen and I need to purchase a new one. Already a bummer situation. The bearded man who was working was a complete and total ass hole. His tone was super aggressive and he made belittling and condescending comments to the point where my boyfriend walked out and I walked out shortly after. He had no intentions of helping or selling us anything and I see other reviews on here specifically about him. I live in the neighborhood and I've had two good experiences at B'a bikes in the past. Hey - so, not sure what's going on with the other reviews, but I love B's Bikes! They're my neighborhood bike shop. The guys here are grizzled, smeared with bike grease and short on small talk, but super helpful and always patiently fill up my tires with air because I'm a novice and need emotional support caring for my new Trek. The guy working the shop was kind, patient in answering my obviously silly questions about bike riding. I came in looking to purchase a new commuter road bike for under $500.00. I did minimal research on bikes prior to my purchase and came into this shop with basic knowledge. B and his staff skillfully answered all my questions with patience. They also allowed me to take multiple bikes out for a spin repeatedly before I put down money for my investment. That is what I also found out from readin other peoples' negative reviews - that they were harassed via Yelp messages! What gives guys, that's not what I call good customer service. You can't scare/harass people for better ratings... well, I guess you can, since that is all I can attest your high rating to. You have to learn that you won't ever be able to make EVERYone happy. 1 or 2 bad reviews isn't that bad in the grand scheme of things. I went into maybe 8 different bike stores in Queens and Brooklyn, I was disappointed with all of them in some way or another. Then I found B's on here and thought it was kind of out of the way but hey I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. Soon as I walked in someone asked me if I needed help. So I gave them a low budget on purpose to see how they could help me on that or if they'd up sell me ( which the other bike stores did ). The guys were super laid back and really helpful and didn't up sell me at all. I seen a few bikes and they let me try them all without any hesitation. I found the bike I loved and asked a few questions about it. The guy knew his stuff, he offered to swap out the seat and the pedals that I didn't like too much for no charge. I highly recommend B's for all your biking needs. Their prices are solid, they help you out in anyway possible, and their bike selection is really good ( mainly Fuji's and SE bikes and yes others but I can't recall). The only downside I can see is their 3 month limit on free maintenance. Other than that these guys are great. read more

I was suited up in my creepiest mandex, sunblock and chamois cream, and and ready to head out the door for a long ride when I decided to try raising my seat a little bit. I over-tightened the weird special seat post double-bolts and busted the tip off (titanium is a dumb metal). Knowing the part was a specialty item that would take a week to replace, I ran over to b's hoping they had something to save my ride. Sure enough, Ethan was able to keep the weird double-nut middle part and replace the two stupid titanium bolts with standard, human-grade stainless steel. Not only did he save my ride, but he very well could have saved me the embarrassment that comes from having to explain to some cab driver how I busted my nut in the middle of nowhere in full lycra. Service was so smooth and efficient, I was in and out in 10 mins and spent $26 on what another bike shop said would cost me "at least 60." Super friendly, not intimidating. No judgement about my being a shitty bike owner. They sell lots of bike accessories, in a wide range of prices. read more

I bought my bike from here last year here and the staff was so friendly they made me feel right at home. Honestly walking into any bike shop I feel a little inferior right off the bat... I know nothing about bikes and I don't carry a messenger bag and obviously don't have one of those fancy hipster beards BUT they made it pretty easy and painless and in no time I was happily riding home on my brand new shiny bike. I am naturally paranoid, especially after making a big purchase, that it would be stolen and the guy helping me out was kind enough to show me every possible security mechanism and explain which ones he thought I really needed. Got a nice little package hook up for the bike security necessities and I'm happy to say no one is stealing sh*t from my bicycle!! He also hooked me up with a sweet basket once he saw my pup with me, and trust me my dog was very appreciative as well. All in all this place is great, it's a small little bike shop but they always have a great selection of new and used and the staff is super friendly! read more

B's Bikes in Greenpoint, BK marks one of two occasions where I've been to a bike shop that was NOT completely overrun by 'can't be bothered' bike shop dickheads*. And they totally had cause to roll their eyes at me, too. For starters, I walked in 10 minutes before closing time. And second of all, my bike's not a fixie. In spite of both these things, the staff treated me like a buddy and sorted me right out. To elaborate further, I'd been getting a flat on the same tire for a while and feared it was part of a larger problem. But my man at B's walked me through the various options of what could be causing it, effectively setting my mind at ease. And on top of all that, he didn't even charge me for the repair. "It's your first time here. On the house." My dudes! You shouldn't have. POSTSCRIPT: I always thought a funny Onion article would be "Local Bike Shop Employee Is Going to Run Things Differently at His Bike Shop" Local bike shop employee Owen McCafferty told reporters today, "Man, this place is total b.s. When I open up MY own bike shop, things are gonna be real different." They pulled my chain. Off my bike, becuase I asked them to. They charged me 2 bucks more than the price board in the corner stated. I tried to talk "bike" with the kid, but he wanted to talk "girl" with some hippy bike girl. They like to sell FUJI bikes I think, I have a Giant- I dont think he liked that. He did fix my chain right then, but then again- he wasnt doing anything anyway. I dont know, but It seems to me that small shops like this would like to take advantage of a situation where a person comes in for the first time, and may want to be friendly and talk bike- there is lots of other bikeshops around, small little ones just like this and better. I don't know where to begin. You know how women talk about when they go to the auto mechanic and are spoken to like they are idiots? Well that's what I felt like here, except worse because I owned a car for over 10 years and never felt like I got hosed. Maybe I was lucky, maybe I chose the right garage, I know for certain that I did not pick the right bike shop. I dropped off my bike for a tune-up, finally got to ride it a week later then had nothing but problems. I brought it back to B's to have them look at it, granted they did but they didn't completely fix the problem and insisted that I was wrong and that my bike was perfectly fine (ummm... I've had my bike for a long time and know when something is wrong, thank you very much.) They talked to me like I was a moron, then ganged up on me. I'm very unhappy, I should not have had to bring the bike back at all let alone left unhappy the second time to have them fix something that shouldn't have needed to have been fixed at all - my bike did not have this problem when I dropped it off!!! UPDATE: Brendan contacted me to come into the shop to have him look at my bike personally. He was very nice about it, but I haven't made it back into the shop to get it looked at since work has been busy, so B's Bikes doesn't get a 1 star review but a 2 star, Brendan at least redeemed the shop a bit by being proactive about getting my bike looked at again. read more

They care about their customers, and they care about their customers' bikes. Their attitude isn't overly friendly, but you're getting your bike repaired not eating at a five star restaurant, and it's perfectly acceptable for that. I came in to get a tune up, asking whether that includes adjusting the deraileur. It did, so I left my bike with them. They even let me leave my bike in the shop for an extra week as I was about to head out of town. A couple days after I picked it up, I noticed that the front deraileur was still hitting the chain. When I took it in, they adjusted it on the spot, and even taught me about my unusual deraileur and how I could stop the chain issues. It took maybe 10 minutes. Now my bike rides well, and whenever I need more work done, I'll head to B's Bikes. read more

I found this place while getting lost! I was on the BQE heading back to Bklyn. The BQE was jammed up and everyone was asked to exit. Huge traffic jam under the BQE, so I decided to try to find my way on local roads. I drove by this place and decided to make a quick stop since I needed a few parts to build up my fixed gear beater. Little did I know....they cater to the fixed gear/single speed crowd. Perfect! They had all the parts I was looking for and their prices were reasonable. A few days later, I realized I needed more parts. Called up a few local shops in Bklyn and no one had what I was looking for in stock. It was either: A - head into the city for them and get ripped off B - order online, pay for shipping and wait a week or C - take a little drive and pick up the parts from B's Bikes. I was up & riding the same day. The only reason I don't give these guys 4 or 5 stars is because they're not really a hardcore bike shop. If you're looking for a bike to commute or for fitness or to run errands, this is the place for you. They even sell used bikes! However, if you're serious about cycling, this isn't really the place for you. Their inventory is very limited. I didn't see any high end road bikes, high end mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes in the shop. Don't expect to see anything with DuraAce 7800, Campy Record or XTR groupos. They also do not "fit" you. Most bike shops will give you a fitting session that will take close to an hour with a purchase of a higher end bike. They are a great shop for what they are. I guess you have to take the good with the bad. They're not snobs because they don't sell high end stuff......they can't roll their eyes at you when you tell them you're looking for a $400 bike. At the same time, if this is the only shop you've visited, you're limiting yourself to the King of Queens. read more

I had a specific brand/model/color bike in mind, and was waiting several months to find the perfect one. After contacting Brendan, the owner from B's Bikes, and learning that there's one that fits my nit-picky requirements, I raced downtown, across the L, and into Brooklyn to check it out. I loved it, but it had to be perfect and therefore I wanted to change the wheels, the handlebars, the seat, the locks, the kick stand, etc etc. Ethan paitently listened to all my demands, spent over an hour making adjustments, and then spent probably another half hour answering my questions - "what does this do?" I don't wield an asymmetrical haircut and am unfamiliar with the greater suggestions of pitchfork, but they have always been beyond friendly and nice. B's is my go-to bike shop. Maybe because it's like 2 blocks away from my apartment, but I like to think that even if it weren't so amazingly convenient, I'd go out of my way to take my bike in for repairs here. In the past few years I've had some rough bike times (I had a full bike stolen and then had various parts from my current bike stolen). When I literally carried my bike from Bedford Ave to B's after the front wheel was taken from it while I was at work, the guys replaced it in a flash (they never seem to have trouble outfitting my 26-year old special needs French road bike). Even when they seem to be crazy busy and under-staffed, they always get to the repairs quickly and you can usually ride off the same day with a big smile on your face. Basically, I recommend B's to everyone. They'll never make you feel bad if you don't know much about bikes. Or, like me, you think you know stuff about bikes but you're completely clueless on practical things like basic bike maintenance. If you bring in a bike with a weird problem, they'll make sure they understand the problem you're describing before going off and charging you a ton of money for unnecessary repairs. The guys just seem to enjoy what they do and the quality of the service really reflects that. read more
