I had mixed results here. They did improve my Trek overall, but I still had to take it to another shop afterward because the brakes were rubbing. On my Giant, they found a backwards jockey wheel, but I was also charged for derailleur adjustments multiple times and later learned the actual front shifting issue was a bent chainring. At one point it was suggested that I might not be shifting correctly, but the problem turned out to be mechanical. They also adjusted my saddle and stripped the bolt in the process. After multiple visits and additional issues, I lost confidence in the quality and completeness of the work. read more

I had a really frustrating and disappointing experience at this bike shop. I walked in simply wanting to look at bike tubes, but they wouldn't even let me see the selection, they said they were hidden in the back. Fine. I gave the guy the details: 700C. Instead of helping, he gave me attitude and sarcastically asked, "What's 700C?" Before I could answer, I clarified my tire is 27 1/4. He then rattled off a bunch of other sizes before finally going to the back to get one. When he returned, he handed me a single tube, priced at $10. I asked if there were other brands or options, and again, more attitude. He told me it's all rubber anyway and questioned why I even cared. At checkout, I gave him cash and asked if he needed anything else. He said I owed him 88 cents, so I gave him a dollar,and he threw the change into my hand so carelessly that it bounced off and fell onto the counter. No apology, no decency. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. There are plenty of other bike shops where the staff will treat you with basic respect, actually help you, and not act like you're bothering them by being there. read more

The store itself has a lot to offer. Cute. Great location. Customer service on the other hand.. left much to be desired... I was quite obviously in line and the person at the register chose not to pay attention or didn't see me - in broad daylight...with store lights blaring.. not so sure that's the case but whatever the reason, I had to ask to get helped. Not the kind of experience I'd like to repeat so... there's that. But they have a good selection and I guess the folks who repair the bikes in the back are far better mannered because one of them came to the front to do something and he spoke to me and acknowledged my existence as I was leaving. He made my experience better and I'd probably come back because of him. Plus when a customer was asking the guy who spoke to me about a repair/alteration, he knew his stuff. Came in needing a major bike tuneup since I hadn't gotten one in years. The first guy I spoke with was super friendly and just asked me to bring in my bike for a quote. When I brought my bike in, another man was at the counter and felt annoyed that I came in almost to closing. That was not the best experience though he eventually got me my quote in just a few minutes. I came back to drop off my bike weeks later as they were backed up. Luckily the first man was there and I preferred to speak with him about all the necessities for my bike. He was very patient with me and answered all of my questions. I happily gave my money for his services. It's crazy how much someone's demeanor can effect my decisions in where I take my business. read more

Great bike shop overall -- I've been a loyal customer for over a decade, bought 2 bikes there and gotten many repairs. I trust these guys. Before they moved to 4th Ave, I would have given them 5 stars. But I'm downgrading to 3 because the new location on 4th Ave is inconvenient -- and doesn't have a handy air pump outside the door. At their old shop on Bergen Street, it was such a nice convenience to pump up my tires at the start of a ride. Please bring it back! Honestly, I see a bigger shop and fewer customers at the 4th Ave location, so give us a reason to love you. Ride has better hours and much better customer service than Roots on Franklin Ave, but I'm tempted to abandon Ride because of the location and lack of a convenient bike pump. I'm not sure what happened, but I will probably start doing my tune-ups myself to save a few hundred dollars in labor costs for simple repairs/maintenance. I took my bike in for new shifters and to install a handlebar I already had, and everyone in the shop was super patient and nice even though it's a busy bike season. They took the time to answer questions, talk through different options, and seemed just as excited for my bike's new upgrades as I am! I appreciated how easy it was to talk about pricing, and that I never felt pushed or hurried into adding on parts or services. fwiw I have an older bike with two different sized wheels; it's perfect for my height but some shops are a bit taken aback by that. I had an OK experience cause I knew what I was looking for, but watching that one guy talk down to somebody with genuine curiosity to why you shouldn't use WD-40 was gross. Go elsewhere if you value your life and safety on the road. A few months back they made a shoddy repair to the bike rack I bought from them. From the get-go it was clearly a rushed "repair" meant to get me out of the shop as quickly as possible. Unsurprisingly, it didn't even hold until I got home, despite their promise it was strong enough to hold important cargo like my dog basket or my laptop. (These items were specified as examples.) I'd already nearly gotten into an accident when the rack broke the first time. Good thing I checked it before loading it up after their "repair." They were also defensive and rude when I brought this to their attention. I was angry, and had every right to be upset, but they doubled down on their insistence that it was a good repair. Although they ultimately helped me warranty the rack for replacement, there was a note printed on my receipt that I was clearly not meant to see, implying I was a fussy and annoying customer. Do yourself a favor and shop literally anywhere else. read more

We had a pleasant bike rental experience here on a Sunday afternoon. We didn't make any prior reservations, but you can online. We didn't have any trouble for the 4 of us when we came around noon. The bike shop has plenty of bikes, gear, and what looks like a service station in the back if you're having problems. It's $7 per hour, or $35 for the whole day. You can pay before or after, if you don't know how many hours you'll be using the bikes. After signing a waiver, they helped fit us onto the bikes by adjusting height and such. They also gave us a bike trail map in case we needed it. 2 hours was perfect for us to bike to Prospect Park, hang out at Smorgasburg, and bike back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick rental! read more

Bike and service was adequate. Bikes squeaked terribly when braking, but they did brake. Bikes were old and rundown, but they did work. Guy at counter was not rude, though not real outgoing or helpful. Prospect Park and the neighborhoods around this business were beautful. The ride from Prospect to Coney Island slow and bumpy, though cool homes. I think renting is a side business for them. Maybe at selling and servicing locals, they're great. I have been a customer since 2017. I got a tune up turned around in a day. Drop off day the line was a bit long, pick up day there was no line and I was out in ~10 min or less. Everything was fine. Notes: 1) We are in a Pandemic. Things will be difficult. Its a privilege to have a bike shop open that caters to our whims near prospect park with patience and diligence. 2) Lines are going to be long in convenient hours. (see after work hours). There are many more people congreating at PP during most times of day, more people are biking in general, and there is a high volume of work 3) The staff is doing their best. They can't have a million people rummaging around due to social distancing. 4) The golden rule still matters. Be nice and understanding to people working tirelessly for your benefit and they will be nice as well. It's not rocket science. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Be respectful to your peers and neighbors. read more

Before visiting the store I called and asked if they carried the Blix line of bicycles as they are listed as a "showroom" for them on the Blix website. The person I spoke to was very nice. Said knowing that I would be coming would charge the Aveney; also suggested a Giant Ebike. I was also informed that if I purchased online using their store as where I had a demo ride, I'd get a discount. The next day I took the subway, and then waited on a line outside of the store for about an hour and a half on a 90 degree plus day. Once inside I saw a Blix Sol, but it was a customer's being repaired. I was informed they didn't have any Blix bikes for me to see. And that the bikes are on badkorder until August. Also, they had to look up and see what the discount was. It was 50 bucks and they had no idea what the code is which made no sense. Now, I did not make a scene. The person I spoke directly with in person with was nice and assuming I didn't speak to him on the phone, it wasn't his fault. He was asking a person named Daryl questions. He apparently was harried and really didn't appear thrilled about being asked about Blix. Granted, no one died. This wasn't the end of the world, but I went there and wasted half a day for nothing. As soon as I got home, I called Blix. Left a VM. spoke to them a couple of days later. The person I spoke to was awesome. I ordered my Blix Vika+ and will have a local, Bay Ridge, bike shop put it together for me. I hope my experience is not indicative of what Ride Brooklyn has to offer and that yours will be different. read more

So I went out for a ride today and stopped at ride Brooklyn to pick up a lock, kickstand and a lock. Due to covid-19 only three customers were allowed in the store. After about 20 all customers left, I was still standing outside the store, were a gentleman came by looking for a cargo net. Immediately the gentleman was let inside the store getting helped as I still remained outside. I was clearly trying to make a purchase from this place since it's my local bike shop. Saw that Ride Brooklyn was carrying LOOK Bikes and figured they might have upped their game from offering more than just hybrids from their online presence. I decided to drive down from Queens and check out the LOOK Road and Gravel bikes, only to be turned off by the in-store environment and treatment. This place has boxes and bikes EVERYWHERE! If you turn the wrong way, you will knock over Bikes that are just sitting around. This place is extremely cluttered and disorganized. When I was there, I saw a customer bump into a Bike and it was like bike dominoes. So if you had your bike there for service or buying one, make sure there are no scratches or dents. You also don't even know what bikes are for sale either because nothing is organized. This place is essentially a walk-in warehouse posing as a storefront. There is no order and they just let people in as if there isn't a Pandemic going on. The bathroom is filthy with pee everywhere, and by the looks, the sink is basically used for cleaning parts. The staff looks extremely unhappy and overworked. The service guys look like they're slaving to pump out quantity over quality. And it shows! At that point, I just had to take my business elsewhere and have ended up buying the bikes I wanted around the corner. They say, don't judge a book by its cover. I owe much gratitude towards this place. For the last 3 weeks there was heavy resistance every time I tried riding my bike, to the point where I couldn't use it until it was fixed (danger going too slow in intersection). I went to a bike shop closer to my apartment a total of 5 times within one week - each time spending hundreds of dollars and each time they told me it was fixed- only for me to ride it and see it's not. After the 5th time (after having several parts replaced and spending $250 - I went to Ride Brooklyn. Rather than trying to fix the problem in 10 minutes like the other place did, they kept it for a full day and they diagnosed and FIXED the issue- a broken axel. I almost cried when I rode and realized not only did they say it was fixed, but when I rode it - it was fixed. I'll be sure to go straight here next time. read more

This is my second and last time giving my business to this shop. I thought the first time was an off day, so I gave it another chance. Yet, each visit felt toxic and negative. I really wanted to work with the salesperson that greeted me but ended up with the same person as before. Last time it was stern voices in the back when I came in, followed by what felt like a sarcastic smile and greeting. Maybe just a bad day? I used their service to fix my bike a few times. They're quick, nice, and not so expensive. However, it all depends on who is fixing your bike. First two visits where smooth and they did a decent job. The last one was different. I had a flat tire and asked to fix it with my own tube that I brought. I noticed right away that the guy who was taking care of my wheel was staring at my bike and talking to other guys pointing at different things. I thought they found something extra to fix, I wasn't really sure. He came back to give me my bike with the changed tube and was questioning the way my bike looks ( What is this?? What's that?? I've never seen anything like that!). I felt like I own some explanation, so I told him that the bike is built from different parts and the only original parts left are frame and crankset. However, it made me feel uncomfortable, and I felt being judged by the parts I installed, that seemed not up his alley. Anyway, I asked him if it was one piece of glass that caused flat tire, he answered "I don't know". I was surprised, because I wasn't sure if they really checked my tyre for other sharp objects or just removed old tube and put the new one.  When I was riding back home I noticed that something makes weird "clicking" sounds when I was pedalling, but couldn't figure it out. I didn't want to come back to the service because they were almost closing, also I didn't feel like dealing with them anymore. On my 3rd ride, my rear wheel, the one that had tube changed, suddenly detached from dropouts when I started pedalling. I was very lucky that it didn't happen when I was riding fast, because it would cause a serious accident and definitely some injuries. I noticed right away that my quick release skewer was very loose, barely tighten. I know no one else was trying to untie it, because I keep my bike in my apartment. After this incident I will definitely look for a different bike service. read more

It took me a while to write a review, but I felt compelled to finally find the time to write one. It is great to find an excellent local bike shop that you trust so you can have an ongoing relationship! My journey with Ride Brooklyn started this summer (June, to be more precise) when I went in for a bike fit. I've had a bike fit done before but decided to get a fresh one since I had some pain points. Alex was my bike fitter; he impressed me with his attention to detail and thoroughness and the fact it didn't feel like he was upselling me for unneeded upgrades. For example, he asked me if my seat was comfortable, and I initially said yes, so he said he'd use my existing seat for the fit. However, a little later, I mentioned I was shifting around a lot on the seat on longer rides. Alex also noticed I had it tilted down, so after talking a bit more, he said that it would be good to try out other seats to see how they feel. To jump ahead, he took his time and made multiple adjustments as I was riding on the bike simulator - it was all about making small changes - he said I could always come back for an adjustment. In the end, I walked out with a more comfortable seat and overall better stance and position - I felt like I had gained more power. A couple of weeks later, I returned for an adjustment since I was still feeling some pain in my right foot on longer rides. After some cleat adjustments and some wedging, Alex recommended I look into wider biking shoes since he noticed the ones I had might be narrow for my feet. After the adjustment and a couple of more bike rides, I did take him up on his advice and researched some wider bike shoes, and purchased a pair which ended up resolving my problem. And that was the happy ending to my bike fit story! BUT there is more... in September, I also decided to get a bike overhaul since my road bike was hitting that mark. At the same time, I was contemplating swapping out my handlebars from aluminum to carbon. I ended up reaching out to Alex again for a recommendation to purchase and swap out during the overhaul. After looking at some options, we ordered the new carbon bars, and they arrived in time for the overhaul appointment. Given I was swapping out my handlebars, I also had to replace my bar tape, so I chose new tape so they could swap out during the overhaul. When I picked up my bike, I noticed the tape was tacky on one side and looked like the sticky inside somehow came out. They offered a new tape, a different tape, which was on backorder. Once it arrived, they swapped the tape and didn't charge me for it since the first one was defective. In summary, I have a great bike fit and a smooth running bike. Careful ordering online from them. I ordered a cassette from them on Saturday. They waited until Thursday to ship it. They somehow screwed up the label because once received by the post office it was marked return to sender. They wouldn't send me a new one despite having one on hand. And they wouldn't issue me a refund until they got the item back. This is one of those situations where good customer service either shines or it doesn't. Not impressed. I had to call my credit card company and open a dispute because they wouldn't work with me at all. read more

I really wanted to purchase from a New York based small business rather than a huge company. I found them online and was happy when I found a bike online I thought would be great. I opted for a Manhattan delivery since the store was a good 45 mins or more from me in traffic. The first issue was around delivery. They told me the bike would be delivered between 7-9pm on a set day. I waited at home...nothing. I text them at 8.55pm and got an automated message. The following morning I got an apology text saying there had been some confusion. The delivery was rearranged and did arrive the next day so it was all ok. They didn't offer to refund the delivery cost by way of apology but were nice and apologized for their error. I replied saying 'these things happen' which they do! The next issue was the bike. My partner took it out for a ride and the seat slid down every mile or so. He kept having to get off of and adjust it. When he got home he took a closer look and the bolt that secures it was quite battered-it looks like someone tried hard to tighten it to the max. He tried to tighten it but it was not movable. I text the store immediately asking what the process is to get it repaired as the bike was un-rideable. I was told I'd have to bring it back to the store (45 mins from me). I explained I had paid for delivery and they'd delivered me a defective item. They said if I bring the bike in they will take a look at it but they will not offer a collection service. I explained I didn't think this was right/fair. I purchased the bike in good faith under the assumption it was not faulty and they have a duty of care to collect and repair. I was told this is not possible and I'd have to bring it in. Then I got mad and said ok I'll come for a full refund I don't want to waste my time. To which I was told they do not offer refunds on bikes so that can't happen. Now call me crazy but doesn't this mean they could ship faulty items out all day long to customers? And then it is on the customer to come back at their cost and obtain repairs. Seems like a very non-customer friendly model and I am so disappointed in the treatment. My advice ? Go to the store and ride a bike before buying it. I am sure there are non-faulty bikes in store! Or else you'll have a bike sitting in your lounge that you can't use.... read more

Came here after a crash to get my wheel trued. Got a call saying they couldn't true the wheel, and needed to replace it. The wheel was under warranty, but I wanted to get out on the road hence got it replaced. Came by to pick the bike up, the repair work was satisfactory, but my original wheel was missing. They said they would call me in they found it, never did. $400 under warranty wheel, gone. Really surprised because I had heard good things about this place. For what its worth the staff is friendly, but shocked they lost/disposed of a part after a repair. This has never happened to me at any other LBS in the past. read more

I just bought an indoor trainer for my bike that I can use indoors. It seems like Delta may get worse and gyms will be restricted. I purchased it from Ride and they came and installed it for me because I needed a different cassette and the youtube instructions required tools I did not have. I have to give Ride 5 stars. They explained all aspects of the assembly, helped me download the relevant apps and made sure I was comfortable before they left. We also got to talking about the store and the pandemic's effect. Supply chains are a mess and it can be hard to be items. But they have more Kickr's in stock so I strongly recommend that you call them soon if you are interested. It is without a doubt the best bike store in Park Slope and nearby. read more

Standing in line with dozens of people while they're employees are on the phone and won't even make eye contact and when they do get around to helping you it is literally in slow motion. After miserable tune-ups, repairs, and generally having given up on bike shops in NYC, we found Jess and Pete's fabulous shop. Pete is the real deal; his mechanics are down to earth, knowledgeable, and precise. We will NOT go anywhere else. They do meticulous repair work for all sorts of bikes, from your average commuter to high-end rides. They're responsive to suggestions and look to find unserved niches as well. The first time I visited the store my out of town friend rented a bike for the day, and the staff was so helpful and not at all pretentious unlike many other bike shops around town, so I had to come back again. I love that they will just chill with you and answer your questions as if you're sitting back, drinking a beer and talking about riding. You can tell they enjoy what they do. They don't have a ton of room in the shop, but have used every square inch possible. The second time I came to the shop, I was there to have them take a listen to a noise my bike was making. They were incredibly helpful and funny. They even recommended a coffee shop around the corner since I came to the shop before my first cup of coffee. I will definitely be back soon...especially since they sell snowboarding gear too - a perfect combination if you ask me. read more

Oh Ride Brooklyn - I can't even express in words how great you are. The mechanics are top notch (the small framed girl with big framed glasses and giant quads in particular is pretty bad ass), like seriously almost like surgeons when it comes to diagnosing and fixing issues with your bike - and so cool and modest and will NEVER overcharge... if anything they could charge more, but usually give you a deal on labor after buying parts. I was having shifting problems that any other shop would have just adjusted my cable tension and limit screws to fix - not a big deal... but when I told her that I kept having these problems despite my husband adjusting my cable tension and limit screws, she looked into it further (after saying "you play mechanic, you pay mechanic" haha BURN!)... she ran through all my gears, adjusted, ran through all my gears, adjusted again, scratched her head a little, and then meticulously pulled part of a cable out - FRAYED! Turns out, the dudes at the last bike shop I took it to, to install my new handlebars, shoved my beautiful Gore Pro cables in the housing and screwed it up! She sold me a comparable new cable for way less than buying a whole new set of Gore Pro, and installed it for free. An hour and only $30 later and my bike was good as new, shifting perfectly. Same mechanic also found a CRAZY issue with my husband's bottom bracket - he had had it built at a very high end shop and they didn't have the correct adapter so they just screwed a similar one on very tight - after a few hundred miles, the thing was wobbling and he couldn't figure out what was wrong. TA DA the surgeon saves the day, AGAIN! Jesus, I flipping love these guys so much. read more
