Watching Mike fix my rusty bike is like watching an artist at work as he fine tunes each spoke, replaces the bearings (10) in front, a brake pad and runs through the gears all while he's talking and sharing life's stories. I was riding my bike when I was struck by a revel scooter, he blew out my back tire, broke 6 spokes and cursed me out as he left the scene. I was obviously upset and was concerned that I would have to buy a new wheel. After going to several shops that all recommended that I get a new wheel, Bicycle station said that they would try to fix my wheel before suggesting me to purchase a new one. Well, they fixed it and charged me a fair price. I am very happy with their service and ability. Definitely give this guy your business, he's a real one. read more

At the beginning i was just a bicyclist who simply liked to ride and to save money so I invested in titanium frame bike. After the first year of riding, on my first service trip to bike shop I learn something new: owning a titanium bike is like helping your best friend who file bankruptcy by buying out his Ferrari for the price of Ford and insure the car somewhere in Texas...( assuming you can afford Ford:)) . You cannot tell anybody you paid Ford price but all assume if you own a Ferrari you can afford 300$ Oil change. Same story: my Bike was purchased on Ebay. From year to year the bicycle condition was getting worse and worse. I visited all the shops that was recommended : Syd's, Soho Habitat, Gotham Bikes, another in TriBeCa, one around 34 Str and plenty uptown...I would walk in and all will say: Ah, MOOTS! And a week later i will walk out with same bike in same bad condition minus money I paid. All the people I talk to either scam me by selling extra or simply were lazy. It's now the bike is old (2006 model) but years ago I would not leave it outside parked. So you can link bike and service change together better. I used to have hard time to explain what was wrong. I did not know that "skipping " has a termin as ghost shifting, " squicking" is a signal that you need new pads. Oh, I did not know what "pads" are. Neither spokes or chain-stretch. I learn all the terminology but even speaking same language did not helped until I visited Mike. I made a selection based on Yelp. The only negativity i read about his shop was the timing. However, I preferred getting bicycle in good condition so timing was not an obstacle. I jumped on the train and walked to the store: the front tubeless tire was flat. Another store sold it for me. Next day it was flat. I came back , they inflated it again but next morning tire was flat again. It was pointless to argue. I recived no exchange or refund. I simply said bye to the money. I forgot to mention that tire they sold me did not match in size the second one. They returned a Frankenstein to me basically. It took a while to get bicycle back- true, but! Bicycle grey color is polished to the point it is glowing in the dark. Everything is lubed, cleaned, no more nasty sound when stopping. All job priced accordingly. I did not feel overcharged and most importantly I finally seen some difference and Mike apologized for taking so long so he offered to deliver it from Bk to Manh. Whoa! Really!? I will most likely ride the bike tonight. The shop is far from were I actually leave but nevertheless I be returning customer. Mike, my big thanks!! read more

If you want a place where the people really care about bikes and genuinely care about people, this is the only place in town. They make really awesome refurb bikes that are a really good bargain. They may look like an old bike, but they are usually better than when the bike was new. I know a few people who have bought bikes there and all of them had great experiences. Plus oftentimes their prices are really good, especially if you can get a used part. They do have their foibles, they are only a couple people, and they get overwhelmed. Sometimes they are slow, I recommend you let them take their time, they don't always do the best work when rushed. Be patient with them, its worth it. They used to be around the corner from me, so I am bummed they moved, but its worth the trip to go there. read more

Best in Brooklyn! Quick, efficient, honest! I've come to Mike after checking several bike shops in Dumbo. My bike was in the accident and it needed to be checked and tuned before I could back on it. The shops in Dumbo were claiming I had to invest at least $150 in repairs, hinting that it was time to get rid of the bike and get a new one. When I met Mike and consulted with him, he checked the bike and said it was still a great one just needed to be tuned up a bit. I left the bike overnight and picked it up the following day. It was like new! Breaks, gears, wheels, everything felt so good when I took a ride. I was beyond pleased and grateful that Mike fixed my baby which will serve me another year or even more. I used to take my bike to get repaired at a hip coffee & bike shop on Myrtle. They did a decent job, so was initially a little annoyed to hear it had closed. Then I found Bicycle Station on Yelp - a 5 min walk away - and realized I should have been going there all along! Great service, affordable rates and a quick turnaround. Plus, I initially misunderstood when I was supposed to be collecting my bike and turned up 15 mins late, and they hung around - on a Sunday! - to make sure I got it. Quality service all around. When I got knocked off my bike in the bike lane on Dekalb by someone impatient with traffic, my rear wheel was bent beyond repair. I carried my bike over to Bicycle Station, where Mike got me a new wheel, and also noticed that I had the wrong rear derailleur for my '80 frame. I'm very upset on how Mr Rodriguez handled my service. I dropped my bike and gave a deposit , of 40, after 2 1/2 days later my bike wasn't fix and it was laying in the floor and gave me a nasty attitude and embarrassed me in front of customers. This place is a gem! My bike was completely ridable, but I had been needing a tune up for way too long & kept putting it off in hopes of taking care of it myself. Mostly I didn't want to pay a boutique shop $100 just to do some basic tune-up work I could do myself in a few hours. But when I found Bicycle Station's $49 tuneup I couldn't pass it up! Okay so before I start I should probably mention that I'm 20 years old and still don't know how to ride a bike. So I called them and told Mike my situation (My height, my lack of ability, and that I wanted something inexpensive and used). He put me on hold and about 25 seconds later he tells me he has a bike for me and tells me a little bit about it and it was only 100! Great, so I tell him I'll stop by later that day (which I did). Upon arriving there I tell him I spoke to him on the phone and he remembers (which is nice). About a minute later (despite there being a few other people, he helps everyone in a timely manner) he brings out the bike. It was exactly what I wanted and I'm instantly in love, it's like he could read my mind. Josh then starts helping me. I tell him I've never learned how to ride a bike and he suspects that the bike might be a tad bit too big for me to learn on so he takes me outside and lets me practice a little with a much smaller kids bike. He didn't make me feel lame or anything, even though I couldn't quite get it, which was nice. Obviously I'm not going to purchase a kids bike so Mike then tells me he's going to the garage and that he'll be back. Three minutes later he comes back with a bike very similar to the first one I had fell in love with except this one was even more glorious and thankfully the right size for me (FYI it was a womens 10 speed schwinn sprint). I tell him I love it and he then tells me he has to fix a few things and make sure everything worked correctly and that it would only take 30 minutes. So I stood there and watched him inspect all the parts and replace a few things while he made conversation. Sure enough, in 30 minutes my bike was finished! He then took me outside and tried to teach me. I tried for about 5 minutes and did much better than last time. Mike was insanely nice the whole time and even said he wishes he could actually teach me and help through this difficult time haha. All in all, I loved my experience there and I love my new bike. If you need a bike or any bike repairs, you HAVE TO go here. P.S. my bike was still the same price ($100) so I was very pleased! read more

M. and I got our bikes here in the beginning of Spring and have been coming here for 95% of our bike needs. It's a laid back shop, no frills and this is not REI so the selection is limited. The pricing seems fair and they would give you advice and help you out too. When we went the first time, Mike let us test drive the bikes unsupervised. When we decided, they chained up our seats so it wouldn't get stolen when parking on the streets and gave us the bells on the house. My fender came loose after a few rides so I went back. Mike apologized for it, fixed it and doubled checked everything else before I rode off again. We always have had good experiences here and just like how Mike and the gent who works back there are cool with us, we are cool with them too. Mixed experience- First time - they installed a rack on my bike for like $5, on the spot. Second time - bike needed new chain. Took them over 2 weeks. Went in to pick up and it STILL wasn't done. Told me to come back tomorrow. Then they didn't replace the chain as asked, instead they just removed the rust from the existing chain. Charged $15. They have gotten popular and now they can't deal with the volume. The need some serious customer service help. read more

Last month, my seat was stolen, and I needed a seat AND a seat secure. Before that, I needed lights to comply with The Law in NYC. When I moved here in July, my front tire had been stolen. This month, I got a flat tire... I really don't know if I just have terrible luck, or if fate just wants me to regularly spend time in the best bike shop EVER. I seriously go to Bicycle Station too much for my own good... it's a good thing Mike is so sweet, friendly, and skilled... or else I'd feel like a complete ass. Always willing and ready to help, he seemed to fix my flat in three seconds while I checked Yelp... I hardly blinked an eye and he had be back on the road, for an excellent price and with a smile. I think it's his friendly customer care that keeps me coming back. Oh yeah, and the excellent bike repair. Seriously, could you ask for more? Especially considering the horror stories on Yelp about other bike shops in our hood, we are so lucky to have Bicycle Station right down the street from us. PS: Seriously, I just started riding my bike every day back in July... I had no idea what a simultaneously rewarding and frustrating experience it would be. Mike is the best!!! I'm a new biker - haven't own a bike since I was a child. I told him what I wanted, and he ordered the most perfect bike for me. There was absolutely no pressure to buy - he just ordered the bike, it came, and then I was able to test it out, and I fell in love with it! Been riding it for 2 months now, and I still love it. I checked out 4 other bike shops and did tons of research before I finally made my way to Bicycle Station and I am so happy with my decision. Save yourself time and just go there. It's a small place, not as "new" as the other hipster bike spots in Brooklyn, but way better!! I felt like I could truly trust him. And!! Have only done quick repairs here - nothing more major than a tire change - but they're fast, friendly, not condescending, inexpensive... all the things a small neighborhood bike shop should be. And they leave an air compressor tube outside so you can fill your tires for free! (but make sure it's turned on if the store is closed... I tried to use it once when it wasn't running and I deflated my tire instead, had to walk it a few blocks down to a gas station, and I only had one quarter on me and had to get change and then I had a late start to my lovely bike ride. Bicycle Station is hands down the best bike shop in a five mile radius. They're fast, friendly and priced fairly. That's saying a lot, as the common bike shop employee rivals only record store clerks for unnecessarily haughty snobbish nature I took my bike a few other places (in Park Slope and Bed Stuy) to fix simple problems. Not only did they not get things fixed, they overcharged. And charged twice to fix what they should have fixed the first time. Finally, I took my bike back to Bicycle Station and they got it done perfectly the first time for half the price. Lesson learned. Also, everyone in there is kind of sexy, right? read more
