On my Giant, they found a backwards jockey wheel, but I was also charged for derailleur adjustments multiple times and later learned the actual front shifting issue was a bent chainring. At one point it was suggested that I might not be shifting correctly, but the problem turned out to be mechanical. They also adjusted my saddle and stripped the bolt in the process. After multiple visits and additional issues, I lost confidence in the quality and completeness of the work.

He then rattled off a bunch of other sizes before finally going to the back to get one. When he returned, he handed me a single tube, priced at $10. I asked if there were other brands or options, and again, more attitude. He told me it's all rubber anyway and questioned why I even cared. At checkout, I gave him cash and asked if he needed anything else. He said I owed him 88 cents, so I gave him a dollar,and he threw the change into my hand so carelessly that it bounced off and fell onto the counter. No apology, no decency. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. There are plenty of other bike shops where the staff will treat you with basic respect, actually help you, and not act like you're bothering them by being there.

What's most concerning is that this wasn't a one-off experience -- it's been a pattern over time. When communication and attention to detail are lacking, it starts to impact both safety and trust, especially on longer rides. Update (Jan 2026): I later found out that a tubeless setup I paid for had barely any sealant in the tires, which explains why a flat wouldn't seal. Another shop had to fix it. At 6:30, Keith pulled up to Wagner College in Staten Island and delivered it to me in person. Unbelievable customer service and kindness. What I failed to mention to Keith is that I frequented Roy's Bikes while I was growing up in Brooklyn- many years ago!! Thanks Keith!!!

I had a very disappointing experience with this shop. I paid over $150 + tax for an e-bike assembly, but when I picked up the bike, neither the front nor rear wheel could spin. I explained the problem to the female mechanic, but she simply said, "That's not my problem. The rotors are bent -- you should contact the seller." She refused to do any further checks, and kept blaming me for buying the bike online. Her attitude was condescending and dismissive -- constantly saying things like "That's what you get when you don't buy from a real bike shop." This experience completely ruined my excitement and confidence about my new bike -- until I went to another mechanic, who fixed both issues (front and rear brakes) in 10 minutes for $30. The problem was just a basic brake caliper alignment -- no need to replace anything at all. I strongly advise others to avoid this place. They overcharge, fail to provide proper service, and show a lack of mechanical skill and customer respect. There are far better mechanics out there. read more

I made a Yelp account solely to give this place a good review, as it seems to be much needed. This is a great place to have in the neighborhood - no fuss, good service, reasonable prices (maybe a tad high, but again, within reason). I outfitted my bike here as well as had it tuned up. It's an old beater bike, but the tune-up did wonders and the issues I mentioned when dropping it off were addressed. They talked me through what the tune-up would include as well as the possible solutions for my issues. I felt comfortable asking questions and received thorough answers in return. This shop will absolutely be my go-to bike store for as long as I'm living in the neighborhood. If you have a higher-end bike, you may want to look at somewhere that carries more speciality products. If you're a casual cyclist, this place should meet all your needs. NOTE ABOUT AIR: air is free if you have the larger schrader valves, but you will need to buy a $2 adapter if you have the thinner presta valves. read more

I was a distance from my home when my trailer got a flat tire. If I didn't have 50 lbs on it, I could have pulled it home on the flat. Instead I had to find the nearest bike shop to get the flat fixed. I arrived at this shop on a Sunday morning and found it closed. But just then in the distance the woman running the shop appeared. She opened up, but locked the door behind her. I had to wait a good while. I removed the wheel with the flat, so not to have to bring the bike and trailer inside. Then a woman showed up with a flat. The woman running the place let us in. I was about to put the little wheel on the counter. I got yelled at. Wheels only go on the floor. We had to wait some more. The woman was not at all friendly. I think the word dour is the best that describes her. And the place is expensive. I was charged $17.42. Back at Dixon's, my local bike shop, the charge is $12 for someone they don't know. The store was quite clean, and there were a lot of new bikes on display. read more

Bad attitude, Bad smell, Bad deals. The woman who runs the joint keeps vicious looking dogs that stink up the place. They help to intimidate customers while she enforces the "I'm right, the customer can go to hell" policy. And the "all sales final" no returns policy - is that even legal? There were bike shop options in the neighborhood several years ago, now there's just this so thing to do is find a better shop in another area. I've gone to Brooklyn Bike and Board on Vanderbilt - a little trip, but worth it. Better price on tuneups (includes truing wheels, while BBC will charge extra), and a much better attitude from cool people working there who seem to enjoy what they do, in stark contrast to her miserable demeanor. Ride, take the subway, put your bike in the car, walk, whatever you have to do it will be worth it to go elsewhere. read more

I love how all the responses say "Margo" - her name is Melissa but she definately gives you a "Margo" vibe: Smart, efficient, straight to the point and no nonsense. She is knowledgeable cyclist of over 30 years with insight on how to support bicycle riders of every type. I have had bicycle maintenance done at her shop, as well as a bike shipped to the shop and put together. Both experiences were excellent - the bikes worked in tip top shape and she was able to answer all my questions. A great thing about Brooklyn Bicycle center is they are not there for the "almighty dollar" - she won't upsell you or convince you to purchase things you don't need. She has a classic NY demeanor which is no nonsense - so come in if you need your bike to be in optimum condition and you will have a cycle shop for life! read more

DO NOT GO HERE , IM SURE NOT EVER GOIN BACK! Worst bike shop in the United States dead serious. The fat dike ugly bitch would see you come in and not say anything. Fake bike parts. Unfriendly. Racist. Unprofessional. Every time I picked my bike up something was wrong with it.... Either my handlebar or seat being loose or back tire wobbling. My front tire was flat she charged me $12 for a inner tube to be changed and some guy came in right after me and needed one also and she charged him $8 , we had the exact seem size wheel by the way so i dont know why his was $4 less.It's so many other stuff I can say about this place and I only started going this summer but just don't go there , If you do spit in her face me for me. This is my go-to place for all my bike related needs! Small shop, well-priced items and Margo, the person who runs the shop, is knowledgeable, professional and honesty a lovely, endearing person I enjoy being around. I am a total beginner when it comes to biking and Margo is patient enough to explain everything in detail to me. Her explanations are clear and I have always felt that the service I am given has been high-quality. I have also seen her handle a queue of people quickly and efficiently. So nice to have a good and friendly neighborhood bike shop. We've bought bikes from them and brought others in for repair. We have always been dealt with in a friendly, fair and equitable manner... and greeted at the door by name. Yesterday I brought my son's bike in for repair and get a replacement innertube. Margo helped with a plan to remedy his bike + a fresh innertube. Today I went in with a fitting issue and walked out, happily served in a matter of minutes. The one and only Brooklyn Bicycle Center cannot be substituted by others bike shops. It's resident expert, Margo, is overflowing with prowess about anything you need whether it be replacing a legacy part to purchasing a new bike, she knows it all!!!! Plus she is the most understanding person I have ever met. I have bought three bikes already from this shop ( totaled the first two cause I'm an avid cyclist ) and am sure I will continue to frequent this shop for repairs replacements or new bike purchases. This place is the most friendly, neighborly and affordable bike shop in Brooklyn. I'm relatively new to BK and to city bike-riding, and talking to Margo is like we've known each other forever: friendly, frank, and empathetic. I've been coming to Brooklyn Bicycle Center for 4+ years. After my beloved bike was stolen, Margo gave new life to my circa 1980s Dirty Dancing bike. Such a wonderful bike shop. I bike 3 - 7 miles a day with my two kids in toe, so my bike takes a lot of wear. Luckily, I've found a shop that knows how to help maintain a bike at a high mechanical standard, with competence, and at a reliable price. Had my electric cargo bike assembled at Brooklyn Bicycle Center the price to assemble and put on the accessories was very reasonable They added all the accessories on the bike and I was very content with the service a quick turnaround and told that if I had any issues that I can come back for readjustment at no charge. As a person that's been living in the neighborhood for over 20 years I must say that the people in the bike shop have been so very helpful over the years. Recently I went to purchase a few accessories for my bike and the lady was so helpful and so knowledgeable about the equipment. We went to brunch and got a friendly call less than 60 minutes later to come pick up the fixed bike. The repair total - $15. My son said his whole braking system felt better and it's likely they even tuned both of them up. Stop on by and have confidence you'll get taken care of properly.
