I purchased a Van Moof bicycle, and had it shipped to Houston, Tx. The bicycle was hastily packaged, and as a result damaged upon arrival. Rolling Orange was completely unhelpful, and suggested I contact the shipping company. These bikes were pretty rare, and of course, they didn't carry the parts I happened to need. DO NOT BUY A BIKE FROM THESE GUYS. Shop around. Buying a bike should be a pleasure, and not a headache. read more

These people were my saviors. After visiting Amsterdam, I totally fell in love with the Dutch bike lifestyle and NEEDED one. Unfortunately, my purse didn't have an extra $1,500 (what seemed like the average price from my searches) to spend on one. So I did what any 21st century girl would do- I bought one online and had it delivered to me! (actually, we bought two- one for the boyfriend of course) Republic Bikes sells the Dutch style for 1/3 of the price, and I guess you get what you pay for- assembly was NOT what we expected, and soon discovered we were up a creek without a paddle- we needed help. Because there was no way we were lugging two bikes, in pieces to a LBS, I called/e-mailed around to see who could come to my rescue and make a house call. Enter: Rolling Orange. Sabine was the most polite, non-pretentious bike shop owner(?) I'd ever spoken to. I didn't get any crap from her about purchasing a bike and assuming I could put it together myself, she didn't scoff when I asked if they had someone who could come to my apartment to help, and she set up an appointment time for the next day. Amazing! I wish I could remember the mechanic's name- she was super nice (and also kept her judgments to herself) and gave me an accurate quote before going to work. She had the two bikes assembled perfectly within an hour! Minus a star simply for the price per bike ($70) but it was totally worth it for lack of attitude and superior service. They even let me call in to pay with credit card over the phone. I'll definitely be heading into the store...on my new wheels, of course.... for any future needs! read more

Disappointed :-\ My husband and I went by on a Sunday afternoon. We specifically went to the neighborhood to go by this shop as I am shopping for a new bike and am considering one of the Dutch Gazelle's. When we walked in the guy that I presumed to be either owner or manager of some sort was helping some customers that had just purchased a new bike. Besides him the only other person working there was a mechanic that was involved with a bike up on the rack on the other side of the shop. We walked around for a few minutes and although the owner was still involved with the other customer he did acknowledge us and said that he would be right with us. Great, thanks. Fast forward 5-10 minutes, a woman and her child come in, people with the new bike leave, owner goes to help the woman that has just recently come in and is buying some bell or other small accessory. Really? They get into a long conversation and he doesn't even look in our direction again. Oh and the other thing is that at one point, the "mechanic" is done with the bike he had on the rack and was very rude and annoyed that we were in his way with the bike we had pulled out to look at. There are too many bike shops in this city to deal with that- I'll take my $1,000 purchase elsewhere if you can't be bothered. read more

Great looking product, but buyer please do your research, in the case you get a defective model you are on your own. Defensive unhelpful staff will make your investment feel like a mistake from day 1. Other bike shops will only be able to help you so far. In the end I couldn't even sell my bike to anyone but back to these guys for half the shiny price I paid. What a nightmare and I wish I had done my research. This place is GREAT! Just returned tonight from a long bike ride on one of these Porche-like bikes and I don't write too many reviews but I had to log in and give a shout out because everything about this place was absolutely superb. Let's start with the store, which is beautiful. I rented a bike today here and it felt like renting from the Rollys Royce of bike shops. The bikes all looked really special and worked great. The gracious shopkeepers/owners ran me through every little details and gave me options on the bike, after talking to me the night before and telling me that I could even pick it up the night before at no extra charge. So that's service- which was fabulous. They stood by their quote price even though I rented a more expensive bike. They didnt give me trouble when I was late returning the bike (thank you thank you). They gave me a map. They were super helpful about everything. Let's move on to price. These incredible one of a kind, artisanal maserattis of the bike world cost LESS to rent than they do at the place thats rinky dinky across town. Why would I go anywhere else? I've been having a lot of trouble finding a good city commuting bicycle, what with my tiny frame, and so far the results of my many test drives have been disastrous. My partner decided we'd walk by Rolling Orange Bikes on the way to dinner one evening, and it was there that he found the petite Vanmoof 2.2. I was pretty reluctant to try the bike out, but the staff there were gently encouraging, and they took a lot of time to adjust the bike so that I'd feel comfortable with the damn thing. And... just as I thought I'd crash into a parked car, it was all smooth sailing up and down the sidewalk. Oh gosh, so it wasn't me, it was the heavy and unwieldy bikes I'd been driving! What I found super classy was that after we came back and jokingly bemoaned about the price of the bike, they gave us other suggestions for what I could try out. Though the search for a good bicycle continues, I'm happy to dream about that gorgeous little Vanmoof, and come back every so often to browse through the rest of their amazing bike collection. read more

After visiting several other bike shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan, my husband and I found Rolling Orange. We were looking for folding bikes - the Strida in particular - and were so pleased with the customer service and welcoming, friendly demeanor of the owners. They were super knowledgeable about bikes and had an incredible selection of authentic Dutch bikes (ever seen a Bakfiets cargo bike in a store?) as they are Dutch themselves. We ended up buying two Strida folding bikes from them and could not have been more pleased and will certainly be back when we need anything else. Truly the best bike shop in NYC! I'm all for a shop like this that encourages biking as commuting and for running errands. Rolling Orange carries just the kinds of bikes that could turn more New Yorkers into regular riders like you see in Amsterdam, even if they cater to a wealthy clientele. However, I've been in the shop twice and neither time could the woman behind the desk look up from her computer or iPhone to even say hello or ask if she could help at all. I don't need to be immediately greeted by someone or bombarded with in-your-face customer service, but it would be nice to be recognized as a potential customer after, say, five minutes, especially when you're the only person in the store or when you come in with your wife and child to potentially buy a cargo bike for transport. I wish the shop well and hope to see more stores like it around the city in the future, but I'd encourage the owners to actually engage their potential customers and build relationships with people. As a result of my experience with them, I wound up buying the accessory I had come to them looking for online. Too bad, because I typically will pay more in order to support a local bike shop. read more

Walking into this shop is one of those "you've got to be kidding me, this is awesome" kind of moments. The Dutch know bikes. Rolling Orange stocks an incredible number of them from practical commuters to the very rare and totally awesome Onderwater Family Tandem XL (3 seater for kids) to a bike made entirely of oak. And it's not just a shtick, they're actually Dutch people who care about bikes. these guys are the best and i thought their customer service was outstanding. i came into the store about 4 times before purchasing anything, they walked me through all the bakfiets (cargo bike) options and helped me measure all of them to make sure they would fit in my front gate. i came back a few days later, took them all for a test ride and wanted a color combo that they did not have. they took the time to disassemble two different bikes simply so i could get the black frame i wanted. i have since purchased a second bike for my wife and will bring them all future business too. if you are in the market for an awesome, practical city bike or a bakfiets there is only one place to go. read more

Unfortunately, the bikes are not fitted for shorter people (I'm guessing 5'2 and below). Even with seats on the lowest setting, it's not possible for a petite individual to safely sit on the seat and ride. It's really too bad, because their rental bikes are quite functional and well made. read more

When you walk past by Rolling Orange, you may be drawn in and intrigued by the interesting bicycles displayed in the window, or on the sidewalk....keep walking past the store. The staff in the shop on weekends will treat your visit like an inconvenience. They may glance over toward you when you walk right up and say excuse me to ask a question, but unless you drop your wallet on their lap to purchase an overpriced bicycle, you are unlikely to get the time of day. They opened up a store in a family neighborhood, and sell family friendly bicycles but don't actually have any tolerance for having children in the store...too bad. Andre B, who is described here as the "Bike Expert from the Netherlands" would not even look up from his computer to help us. Even a shop with product as fantastic as Rolling Orange's needs to offer at least a small modicum of customer service. My bar is reasonably low, but Andre failed to reach it nonetheless. read more

I needed a bike to rent to take my son out for a few hours. All the other bike stores I called did not have a bike with a child seat available to rent. I am sort of speechless after an interaction with Andres - who at first claimed to knwo nothing about bikes (he said he was just the Sunday guy) and then suddenly threw a caniption fit when my friend's son dropped a tire pump (he says it was his last functioning pump in the store and now he is "screwed". uhm - a bike store with only one functioning pump?). the bikes are awesome and the accesories are good (we've bought helmets and whatnot). the rest of the staff that we've encountered there on other days of the week have been super friendly and helpful but this guy was beyond obnoxious, unhelpful, and just plain mean (so I guess I am not so speechless after all). read more

Hands down, the most interesting bike shop I've seen anywhere. All Dutch bikes, none of which I've ever seen in any other bike shop. Bought a brand new Vanmoof 5.7. One of the nicest shops and also one of the most attentive staff members. There were 3 people working there when we came in, each one of whom was more than happy to help out. Further, each of them were friendly, outgoing and humorous. I just felt compelled to write a review (which I have never done before) after reading several Yelp reviews that stated that the staff were inattentive and dicourteous. In fact, I have never been to a bike shop where staff was more helpful---and were stoked to see people interested in Dutch bikes (which are way different than any other bikes you'll see in any shop). 5 Big Stars! read more

These guys were lifesavers! I was in town for a writing conference and had recently had foot surgery, so walking 3+ miles/day was out of the question. I e-mailed them from home (St. Louis) and they set everything up--really reasonable rate for a 6 day rental, including lock and helmet, and they worked with me every step of the way as far as coordinating pick up and drop off and getting me maps, you name it. Love these folks. They will always get my business when I'm back i town. read more

I had already purchased my Oma before I had heard of Rolling Orange Bikes, so I can't speak to the bike shopping experience. I can say that I observed a good selection of high quality Dutch bikes that will last you decades if not a lifetime. I was there to get my Omafiets serviced and they did a wonderful job. I have taken that bike to shops all over the city that have mechanics with knowledge of internal gear hubs. Those shops have kept the bike running, but the mechanic at Rolling Orange made that bike sing. It has not run this well since i first got it. I will definitely bring my bike here for future tune ups and repairs. read more

The place has great service (They speak Dutch if you please) but more importantly they provide sturdy, well balanced Dutch quality bikes for a more than fair price. Right by the Brooklyn harbour/park area and not too far away from Prospect park. read more
