I had a very poor experience here. I brought in my bike for a front shifting issue and was charged for derailleur adjustment twice, but the real issue was not identified. Multiple mechanics suggested I might not know how to shift properly, but the actual problem turned out to be a bent chainring. That was only discovered after I went back multiple times and pushed for them to keep looking. It did not seem like the bike had been properly test ridden before I was told the issue was rider error. Communication was also difficult, and the overall attitude I experienced from staff felt passive aggressive rather than helpful. I was largely left on my own trying to sort out what was going on. They also replaced the wrong bolt on my saddle. When I asked about replacing the correct bolts, I was told they did not have the proper ones, and the issue was not properly resolved. After multiple visits, repeated charges, poor communication, and the real problem being missed until I pushed for further inspection, I would not return. read more

Not your friendly neighborhood bike shop, as it turns out! We bought a brand new $400 bike for my 6 year-old from here a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to get my little guy comfortable just gliding around on his new bike. One thing I read suggested detaching the pedals until he's ready. I tried to detach the pedals myself but didn't have the right tools. So I brought it back to Bicycle Habitat to have them just unscrew the pedals. And guess what? They charged me $9! To do about 45 seconds of "labor". For removing the pedals of a bike that I just bought brand new from the store. Does this seem right to you? Seems like money-grubbing greedflation jerkmanship to me. It's sad because I wanted this to be the spot where we could come for repairs, gadgets, and service. After this experience, I'm compelled to look elsewhere. Really kind of shameful. read more

I went to Bicycle Habitat twice, which really says more about me than them. I thought maybe the first visit was a fluke. Turns out... it's a business model. The staff acts like they're curating art at a gallery instead of fixing brakes. I asked about a repair and got a response like I interrupted a TED Talk on bicycle culture. Relax--it's a chain and two wheels. And the prices? I thought they were quoting me for a full bike rebuild, a documentary, and emotional support. Labor costs so high I expected my bike to come back with better credit than me. Same attitude both times--like I needed them more than they needed customers. It's a bike shop, not a fashion week afterparty. Nobody needs this level of arrogance over a tune-up. Plenty of other shops in NYC that will fix your bike and treat you like a human being. Start there. read more

My partner and I have given this bike shop multiple chance but every time the customer service is so icky. The men who work there make us feel so condescended to and unwelcome. It's like they don't want us to buy anything. Like we should be embarrassed for asking questions and we're pathetic for not knowing certain things about bikes and gear. So strange and disappointing because we want to support local, which is why we keep going back and trying again, but it's such a sucky experience each time. read more

First off, I worked with Libby on the initial sale. Second, I had a world of trouble with my knee and consults with my physical therapist, and went back several weeks later. Libby figured out more or less instantly that I needed a bigger frame (same make and model). We swapped bikes, and talked about bikes and knees for a while, and now everything is working much better. BH is great, my new favorite place to be! read more

Sketchy. They advertised a great price on SRAM etap batteries online for black Friday, so I placed an order. Today I received a refund because "the order had been flagged as fraud". Of course the item is now back to normal price. I would be OK if they had said "hey, we made a mistake and cannot honor the price" - but to try and pass it on as customer fraud is royal bullshit. read more

Genuinely friendly and timely with repairs. They have taken care of my ride twice and both times it was done at a reasonable price. Mostly, I appreciate the friendly attitude that is rare in this part of Brooklyn. read more

Great experience- not only did they help me find what I needed, Val helped me put the cleats on my shoes and was super nice about it.

Had my GF ship my bike and they charged around $200 just to take the bike apart and put it in the box, which is about 15 minutes easy labor. Delivery price was separate. What a scam. read more

I cannot express enough the professionalism that Bicycle Habitat has. After my bike was unfortunately stolen, I was looking to replace it very quickly. After searching on Specialized's website - because I knew the make and model of what I wanted - I saw Bicycle Habitat had it. I immediately called and they explained to me their process of building a bike. In just a week and a half, they had built the bike and I was notified by email when it was ready to pick up. Before paying, they adjusted the seat for my height and I circled the block a few times. It was exactly what I was looking for. They even sent a follow up, asking if the bike was treating me well. That customer service is top tier. I will be heading to BH for all my bike needs in the future. read more

Bike was fixed at a reasonable cost in a short amount of time ! I LOVE BICYCLE HABITATTT

What a great place to get your bike on. It's been even more essential to have two wheeled transportation these days and Habitat has you covered. The crew is knowledgeable, caring and flexible. I bought a bike from them a few years back and loved it. It was a sad day when someone broke into our garage and stole it (cutting the lock and all), but I knew I'd need a new one. Even though Habitat couldn't source the bike I was looking for (we are also in the middle of a bike shortage if you didn't know!!) they were completely up for assembling one that I was able to locate myself. Picking up the bike in the middle of a pandemic was smooth with social distancing outside and proper precautions being applied. I checked in and within a few minutes my ready to go bike was brought outside so I could pedal away. They're my go to even though it's not in my hood, and it's worth it. Thanks Bicycle Habitat- keep on rolling! read more

After going to another store nearby which lacked selection - Bicycle Habitat saved the day with the flat tire on my Onewheel! Super friendly and knowledgable staff helps me select a tire sealant and even install it into the tire after I removed the valve stem! The shop was clean and organized, with plenty of options. Would recommend for last-minute needs. read more

I Think bicycle habitat is great! They are incredibly helpful and nice. if you are older and/or or mechanically challenged (like me) , the people at. Habitat are endlessly patient without making one feel inept. They have helped me through the years with answers and solutions to all manner of questions and problems. Never a charge for it. Always willing to allow exchanges or returns. . I can't recommend Habitat enough. Howard Major. read more

Was in a pinch to get my bike serviced prior to an upcoming vacation. Called a few other bike shops who were unable to accommodate my schedule. I landed at Bicycle Habitat and wasn't thrilled with my overall experience. The positives: Repaired my bike with a quick turn around time (a few days). Thorough diagnosis, and itemization of issues with bike. The negatives: LONG LINES I was waiting for my bike to be looked over by a mechanic for a rather long time, I wanted to just drop the bike off and discuss the repairs over the phone, but they said that isn't possible. Despite having to wait, customers aren't allowed in the store to discuss issues with the mechanic which makes for a very clunky work flow. I feel that they are expensive for repairs. Overall, I would go back to them if I needed something done urgent, with the anticipation of a long line. But would go somewhere else at a better price point. read more

They fixed my bike which was great! But they weren't very friendly and price was well...overpriced. They did it quickly though. Wish customer service was nicer. read more

Due to limited time and open business hours due to the coronavirus situation, I communicated with Bicycle Habitat solely by email. Libby was very responsive/attentive and answered all of my questions/concerns. She made some great suggestions of her own as well which I ended up getting. The bicycle was built the same day I decided on it, and I picked it up the same day. I rode over on my lunch hour and waited in line patiently, obeying the current 6 foot social distancing guidelines. A few moments later my bike came rolling out the business entrance and I took it for a test drive. Making the final decision I was escorted inside to make the purchase. Libby answered any remaining questions and we added some last minute items. The whole thing really happened within a couple of days. I'm sure knowing more or less what I wanted helped, but Libby's customer service certainly made things easier. This is a difficult and stressful time for many. The service and demeanor I experienced at this Bicycle Habitat was very professional and very appreciated. Thank you very much. Stay safe. Stay clean. read more

I had an excellent experience with this shop. Last week I went to buy a new bicycle, they had so many options with different price ranges. Zach helped me find the bicycle I needed. He was very experienced and knew how to accommodate my wish within my budget. I got a light weight Specialized bicycle, weight was my main factor for buying a bike, I didn't mind spending a little extra $$ knowing how significantly that affects cycling performance. He ordered my size and built up the bicycle, Following week we went together on a test ride. The bicycle was exactly what i'm looking for, very light, smooth, easy to use. Zach took his time explaining how to operate the bike and explaining additional tips on how to make my riding more comfortable. During my test ride, I had an unforeseen experience where I got an asthma attack, I was very grateful to have Zach with me, he was very courteous and sat me at a restaurant and went back to the bike shop to get my inhaler from my purse. He was also very patient and supportive and made sure I was feeling okay before we went back to the shop. I definitely recommend this store, and commend Zach on his professionalism, patience, and kindness. read more

If you're going to get a new bike from anywhere in the city these are your guys. They were so helpful even when we said it was a bit out of our price range that we ended up coming back after dinner and purchasing a bike because we were so sold on the overall bike value and exceptional customer service. With five minutes to go they put on a rack, kryptonite lock, and a bell and did it all with a smile on their face, cracking jokes the entire time. I will 110% be purchasing my next bike from these guys. Stop reading. Go now. Get your bike on. read more

I purchased a Specialized bicycle for my niece several years ago and I was told by Bicycle Habitat that they would do free lifetime adjustments for the bike. The bike needed a derailer adjustment so I brought it in for repair. I was shocked when the sales associate told me that free adjustments were no longer store policy. The sales associate stated that the only thing that was free was Covid. I found this to be in poor taste. I would like to remind Bicycle Habitat that Covid vaccines are free, and that I no longer need their bicycle shop. read more

Despite being a chain, both this bicycle habitat and the one in prospect height continue to provide the friendly vibe of a local bike shop while having all the perks of a chain with multiple stores. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and they never tried to upsell or hurry you. I always find myself learning something new each time I go into their store, and you can tell how passionate everyone who works at the shop is. This shop and the staff seems to be less about the race bike crowd like the one in Prospect Park, so I'd base your visit depending on what kind of cycling you do! read more

The Chelsea location just treated us so poorly when we went there for a tune up appointment. When we gave our name to the woman working there, she said we did not have an appointment- and it would be 5 days until our bikes would be serviced. They had nothing in their system and nothing they could do. No apology, no nothing. Then when my husband started to get upset - she told him to calm down -and that she was going to go inside to let him cool down. That was odd because he was def. frustrated but not enough for her to walk away. That's where it became evident customer service is not important to them. Long story short, they didn't believe we had an appointment and didn't really care if we were upset and just didn't want to deal with it. We have written to a Manager and I'll update if anything happens read more

I've been to the other Bicycle Habitat locations in Manhattan and am a fan. This branch though seems to have some logistical and day to day operations tweaks that need to take place. Inventory seemed to be skim to none. Looking for a particular helmet, bike chain, and saddle and they were all out of stock. Shelves seemed to only have one particular item in stock and it was only one of it rather than full line up on hooks. They did have a wide variety of bikes and salespeople seemed to be attentive but overall experience it was far from how it was from the Manhattan branches. read more

My wife and I got into biking about six years ago and in that time I have seen her treated dismissively and with outright hostility by male bike store employees--seemingly for the crime of being a woman. When an issue with her bike fit came up, we called around to find a bike shop with a woman bike fit specialist and found the Park Slope Bicycle Habitat. Libby was so helpful and patient and figured out the solution to the issue my wife was having almost immediately--something that the gatekeeper who sold the bike should have considered but......... This level of service and attention to *basic* anatomical difference should be standard in the bike industry, but it's not. Thanks to Bicycle Habitat for hooking it up for my wife and me. read more

To be clear, I did NOT purchase any products/services on this visit, but I am writing about the wonderful customer service I received. With the inclement weather change from beauty sunny to dreaded cold (as bipolar as NY tends to be) I had been meaning to fill my tube up with air for weeks, cycling along with the unpleasant bumps along the way. I finally gave up and dragged myself into this store worried that I'd be turned away. Delightfully, I was not! The workers were ALL very helpful and when they saw that I was having trouble with my older type of tube, one stopped and coached me along the way. They never asked for money and were cheery the entire time. I am grateful for fellow bikers like them! Thank you! read more

I bought my bike at this place, the stafff is really awesome, they helped me out by giving me some info about how to measure the proper bike for me. I have the lexa by trek... I felt it wasn't right, that's when I decided to look to this great store.... They have variety, and different range of prices on bike and accessories. I came in looking for a new bike, helmet, and u-lock and received informative and nuance advice from an attendant.

Went on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and there was a bit of a line (maybe 3-4 in front of us.) The employees were communicative and quickly helpful. My bike had a flat tire, and while the mechanics took it inside and fixed it, we waited outside under the shade of tents which was an added bonus! It cost $20 ($7 for the "tube" and $13 for service.) Seemed reasonable to me. All in all, the staff were friendly and informative and the process was painless. This will definitely be my new bike spot in the neighborhood. read more

Dropped an old bike off and they fixed it up same day for pretty cheap! Great service, very happy

I'm a little irritated with myself for taking so long to rate Bicycle Habitat. I've been to each of the locations at least once and almost 100% of the time got great service. I've bought several bikes there, have gotten amazing advice and service from Hal, a fitting from Emily, and a solid deal from Libby when I had to get a new ride after my bike was stolen. Staff is knowledgable and friendly, there are a lot of women working as sales people and mechanics in the shops, bikes are priced fairly, strong mechanics and and and... it's just a great shop. Check it out. Now. read more

Bicycle Habitat - Sweet ride from Bicycle Habitat on 5th Great fit, love this bike. - Bikes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

After years of putting off getting my first adult bike, I decided that I had done enough procrastinating. I'm so thankful that I decided to make my purchase at Bicycle Habitat due to the professionalism & great personalities of not only Mike (who assisted me w/ this entire process), but everyone that I interacted w/. Mike was truly helpful in every aspect. From understanding what bike I should purchase, to how to correctly lock a bike up, gears, chains, etc. I literally learned more about bikes in 30 minutes of speaking w/ him than I knew about bikes my entire life! Amazing! It's great to see the passion people have pour over into their work- It really shows. Keep up the great work Mike & everyone at the Park Slope location! read more

Came in here 3 weeks ago after talking on the phone with the store's workers several times before coming in. I found out I have 2 options to purchase a bike. Option one is lay away and option 3 is Trek credit card. So I came in and applied for the Trek Credit card and was approved for 3,500 bucks. WOW. So, foolishly, I went to the more expensive bikes that ranged from 800-1500 bucks. Luckily Jim came and asked me some questions regarding my biking habits. He asked me important questions that truly pertained what were my biking needs. After everything was asked and answered, he brought me to the Trek FX2. Instead of spending countless dollars, Jim was kind enough to ask me all the necessary questions so that I can be fitted with the perfect bike. I am truly grateful for Jim and for the wonderful staff there. I look forward to enjoying my bike as soon as it warms up. Thanks guys :) read more

Quick and easy service... they sold me partial parts. If you like to do your own labor like me, it's worth getting a quote here

The staff at this store are nice but the mechanics don't really take pride in their work, so I can't recommend. Whenever I get anything fixed here, I have to inspect everything afterward to make sure it was done properly, then awkwardly ask them to re-do the subpar work. If I'm going to pay someone cash to fix my bike instead of doing it myself, I'd prefer not to have an extra load of mental frustration on top. It should be done right the first time. read more
