I had just gotten the pegs stolen off of my electric bike which requires them to rest your feet on due to lack of peddles. I pulled up the the store at 7:02pm and they wouldn't even entertain me by coming to the door. Merely shook their heads. All I know is if I was the owner of a shop and my employees brushed off a paying customer for being 2 minutes late that employee would be suspended with out pay. read more

This place is lucky that it's the only bike shop in the area. Otherwise their high prices on labor wouldn't be tolerated. The work they do is satisfactory at best. Also if your bike is being serviced it's very likely they will be storing your bike outdoors to be rained on and scratched up against other bikes. Premium prices demand premium services. read more

This was a nightmare experience. I had a fat wheel rear hub that went bad and during this COVID-19 Pandemic I feel they took advantage of my desperation to get it fixed. They claimed it could not be fixed leaving me no alternative but to purchase an entire new wheel set that ended costing me $500. After about two weeks the wheels were ready, but to my dismay, the front wheel would not fit. They did not offer to fix the issue and never bothered to call me back (poor customer service). In all the confusion, my original rear rim was left at the shop and when I called about it, they said they threw it out, without even contacting me first. Now I am forced to either buy a new bike or a new wheel set. I will never use this low grade bike shop again and strongly advise anyone to do the same. Total disaster. read more

I had a mysterious recurring flat on my road bike, two other bike shops couldn't diagnose it. These guys took the time to look for all possible causes: gave me new cloth rim tape and pointed out the small cut on sidewall that could also be the culprit at high psi. I shelled out $90 for a new Gatorskin and rim tape, and it looks like this fix stuck. Felt a little pricey but am happy my bike is working. read more

This is NOT the place to buy a bike...), but for their diligence and value that comes with their repairs. Unless you're taking your bike in for a overhaul tune-up, the guys here will get you in-n-out in under 35 minutes. And that's my guarantee. It's really great to visit a bicycle shop in Bushwick that doesn't smell like B.O. I like this place a lot. They have amazing hours -- starting at 9am -- and the staff is nice and knowledgeable. I walked in a few days ago to get some tools to help me pry the tire from my wheel to replace the inner-tube, and I was in and out in 30 seconds. After I realized that I had the wrong sized inner-tube (which had been sold to me at Bicycle Habitat in Park Slope a year ago), I went back with the old deflated one that needed to be replaced, and within another 30 seconds I was given the right size, I'd paid, and I was out the door. I will be coming here for the rest of the summer. I'm bummed out to find such a great shop so close to when I'll be leaving Brooklyn :(. I brought my bike by yesterday for a full tune-up. The bike mechanics were super nice and could have easily taken my money by doing what I had asked, but instead they gave it a little check up and pinpointed exactly what it needed. The total bill ended up costing less than half of what a full tune-up would have been. The workers are unpretentious (I am usually intimidated by bicycle repair shops) and very honest. Also, their prices are the best in the area. I just took my bicycle for a spin around the neighborhood and it feels better than new. While I have never purchased a bicycle here, so I can't comment on that or the prices for full bikes, I can comment on the great service. I can also comment on the fact that for some of the day, this is the only bike shop in Bushwick. Other bicycle shops for reasons beyond my comprehension open at 11:00 AM; this one opens at 9:30 AM. This means that if I want to get something fixed in the morning without waiting for a bunch of guys with hangovers to stumble into their shop, I go here. Indeed, that is why I went here the first time. This is not the closest shop to me or the fanciest, but it is the only one open in the morning. That said, it is a good thing that I went here, because the guys are pretty quick and solve problems. Other places just deal with the one problem you bring to their attention. These guys solve a bunch of problems (including some when you are not even looking, like that time they greased my bike without me even noticing). Until Red Lantern, you can just walk in and you get your bicycle fixed in about ten minutes. This is a good thing. I have pretty much no complaints. The service is also polite, which is a big plus considering all the surly mechanics out there. Oh yeah, it is not overly expensive. read more

This place is awesome! It's a family run business with hard working guys. The owner, Javier, is a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and kind man. I took my class here for a trip to learn about bicycles and they had a fantastic time. Javier showed them how they measure, cut, & thread spokes. He also showed us some of his bikes. One of the professional racing bikes was so light that a student of mine picked it up with his pinky! When it was time to go, Javier gave each student a Bushwick Bikes water bottle to take home. Great value! Repairs are their thing. Not many quality bikes,except maybe a few kids' bikes, BMX, and cheap hybrids. A few GTs and a cool Fuji Tack for a G, the most expensive bike. I came in for a headset replacement and installation of two chainrigs for my triple ring crankset, which I brought with me. $45 for an Origin8 headset, $25 for labour, + $10 for the installation of both rings came out to a total of $87 and change. Not bad. All it took was 40 minutes. Pretty quick by busy bike shop standards. Shifting was crisp and smooth and the smoothness of steering with a new headset feels like new. Ahhhh.... Riding in from Fresh Meadows to Rego Park, I thought Spin City on Queens Boulevard would be of help. All they had was a $115 Cane Creek headset. I said I'd need it by evening. They were going to charge $15 or $10 installation labour per chainring in addition to the $25 for the headset labour. Would've easily paid double. It was worth the ride to Bushwick on a nice spring day. All in all, These Mexican/PR/DR mechanics know their craft and are fast. None of that, "yeah, I'll see if we have what you're looking for...it might take a few days(?)"- bull. These hipster mechanics, many of whom are friends, could take a clue as to how to fix a bike promptly. I normally would have taken it to Red Lantern on Myrtle and Carlton, but I needed repairs done quickly and competently so I can work tomorrow delivering food. I can't speak to their service because I'm a mechanic and I fix my own stupid bikes. In my mind the mark of a good neighborhood bike shop is that they'll happily sell you parts. Bushwick Bicycles will do just that! When I need 3 cables, a cassette lockring, cheap grips and a left side bb cup the folks at the shop are more than happy to scrape it up for me. Prices are high retail on parts, but who cares, its still affordable. From what I can tell it looks like a casual, family operation. They've pulled crown races and done other semi-advanced work for me before. I'm sure its a fine place for a tune-up. read more

My normal shop for quick repairs is Bravo, but since he's usually slammed and he works by himself, I decided to try another place for a big tune-up after I had a crash. This place is definitely the place to go for your big tune-up, and the prices aren't bad for general service either; Bravo is just cheaper so I go there for the "quick and dirty" stuff that doesn't require too much fine tuning (like tubes). After my crash, I had a wheel that was obviously bent because every time I rode it, more spokes would break. The mechanic who did the initial screening gave me some options to go over and with the information that he gave me, it ultimately seemed like replacing the wheel was going to be the most cost-effective and guaranteed option even in a three-month timeline. I also ended up replacing my shifter and brake cables. So my bill for replacing a wheel and all my cables and having everything adjusted after a crash still ended up comfortably under $100. It is the biggest set of repairs that I've ever sent my bike in for, and now it's like riding a brand new bike. To add to that, they even found a better spot to mount my rear light. read more

Great neighborhood bike shop. The staff is always very friendly and straight-forward. I had a bottom bracket replaced, and the final bill was less expensive than I was expecting and very timely. Service has always been fast for me. I called them and priced handlebars, and surprisingly, their price was comparable or less than the online retailers I was looking at. And when I called to see if I could pick them up (because I was two blocks away) they said that even though it was a couple minutes past their closing time, they'd wait for me. They charged me $38 for a tire, tube and labor. (25 for tire and tube and 11 for labor plus tax) That seems a bit much. I have gotten the same kind of work done for $25 total at Zukkies. Get the price before you get the work done. I didn't ask for the price upfront so I just paid it with out protesting. But will not go back. read more

Friend bought a bike for her 10 year old daughter at a chain store already assembled, after one foot pedal came off and the threads were stripped. Javier found that the crank was good, and just replaced the pedals. He then aligned the front wheel and adjusted the brakes. All I had to pay for was the pedals!
