I dropped by this past Saturday to see about my front tire. I initially thought it needed air but it turned out it was a flat. He was able to fix it in 20 minutes for a reasonable price. He even gave me some tips and advice about bike maintenance. One suggestion I do have is for the owner to list his number on Google Maps. It has the hours but no number listed. Luckily Yelp came to my rescue. Other than that minor hiccup, I'm happy to have a reliable bike repair shop within walking distance. read more

I was biking down Hancock St with a group of friends when two of us suddenly got flat tires. We never figured out what the cause was, but were very fortunate to find JC Bicycles nearby. They were friendly, professional and very competent. I didn't have my wheel lock key but they were able to jigger off and change the tube nonetheless. The owner also noticed that my chain could use some lube and graciously oiled it up free of charge. We had both our tubes changed quickly and were on our way! Not hoping for a flat again soon but if it does happen in the area, I'll know where to go. read more

A few weeks ago I was caught in a bind with a flat tire and almost every bike shop was about to close. I called JC 5 minutes before closing and he told me he'd stay open so he could fix my flat. I had JUST gotten the inner tube replaced at another shop. He stayed true to his word, I arrived just after they were supposed to close, the team at JC bicycles is extremely knowledgeable and showed me that my inner tube was the wrong size. JC noticed that my frame was too big for me to ride comfortably. I fell in love with a bicycle he showed me and soon after he agreed to trade my bike. After having my bike for about a week, it was stolen. I was heart broken and didn't know what to do. The next day I called JC and told him what happened, soon after I got another call from JC telling me he had a bicycle for me to use in the meanwhile. It's difficult to express how grateful I am to JC and Morena at the shop.. not only are they professional, knowledgeable, and hardworking- they are also caring, empathetic, and they want the best for you and your bicycle. I had an excellent experience having a rear flat tire inner tube replaced by Jose. He also gave me advice about the best psi for my tires- I had no idea it's actually safer and better to go 5-10 under the max psi. My experience with this business was horrible. I also note that this is my first time leaving a Yelp review and it is only because I had such a negative experience with JC's Bicycles that I felt compelled to do so. In short, JC is not a dependable business owner and does not keep his word to his customers. I first met the owner of this store, JC, in person, when he offered to install a bike rack in my apartment if I purchased the racks from his store and paid an additional install fee. Wanting to ensure the highest quality and being persuaded that he had tons of experience doing this, I agreed. I attempted to set up a time with JC on three different occasions. Each time, he either did not answer the phone when the time came for him to show up, or he claimed that he never received my text messages and phone calls-- despite sending me reply texts and later returning my calls assuring me that he would arrive "within the hour." On each occasion I informed him that I was scheduling my day around his arrival and let him pick the time in order to be as flexible as possible and allow him the greatest latitude. Unfortunately, as a result of his not showing up and not responding to calls or texts (not even to say that he could no longer make the appointment) I missed several engagements. I am highly disappointed with JC and his business. As a result of these experiences I will not be returning or further supporting this business. I suggest others who respect professionalism do the same. read more

I had just gotten a bicycle from someone off of Letgo for insanely cheap so naturally it immediately needed work. JC put on a new back tire and a new front rim. I needed a lock and a helmet. He fixed the bike in a very short time and it works perfectly. Super nice guy, very affable, and made me laugh too. Definitely making this my go to bike shop if when it needs anything. I found this bike shop using yelp. It was hard to find without using any filters, FYI. It was the closest place to me and I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. This place will be my new go to bike shop from now on b/c the owner, JC, was a friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful guy. He fixed my flat in no time and charged me a decent price- $13. He topped off my wheels with air, gave me some good advice and identified a potential issue with my bike in the future. He also gave me an estimate in case it does become an issue and he gave me great winter riding tips. Overall, a pleasant experience. Check them out! read more

JC, the store owner, was extremely sweet and patient. He and Morena were so helpful with recommendations to repair my back tire which was flat. They even threw in an upgraded Gatorskin tire but when he found a defect in that tire as well, he re-installed a brand new tire. So they are also an ethical business as they could have pocketed the money and let me ride off with another defective tire, only to return with more issues. I'm fairly new to cycling so they gave me some bike maintenance tips. I would come here in the future and prices are pretty affordable which is always a plus. read more

I signed up to ride in the 5 Boro Bike Tour and of course I waited until the last minute to give my bike a tune-up. I Googled bike shops near me and came across JC Bicycles, which is literally around the corner from my apartment. I rode my bike down and met JC and his assistant Morena, who were both very welcoming. When I told JC that I needed a tune-up because of the bike tour I was participating in the very next day, he asked, like a parent would ask a child, why I waited until the last minute, . But rather than reprimand me, he told me not to worry and that he's be able to give my bike the tune-up that it needed (including adjusting the handlebars, changing the tires and removing this Nantucket basket that came with my bike when I purchased it at a flea market--he advised me that riding the 40 miles of the bike tour with the added weight of the basket would not be a good idea. JC said that I would be able to pick up my bike by 7p, but when I told him that I had dinner plans in Manhattan at 530p, he told me not to worry again, and that I could pick my bike up by 430p. When I returned to retrieve my bike, Morena was wrapping up putting air in my tires. JC let me take the bike for a test ride, and I rode around the block a couple times. Today I visited JC Bicycles for the first time and appreciate the professional, warm, reliable, affordable and patient service I received. I met JC and he is very skilled, knowledgeable and understanding. I am so new to this whole bike thing and as a young adult, I asked him so many questions about how to stay safe on the road, what I need to know and how to properly secure/lock a bike. He answered all of my questions and offered additional support, suggestions and advice. He even took the time to show and explain important things I needed to know and check for before and while riding. JC offers so much! A great guy and a skilled workman, always ready with sound advice for what you and your bike need. JC is a selfless man with a great sense of humor, and he truly has your best interests in mind! We moved in back in August 2016 and immediately befriended JC, and have had only great experiences with him since. Every now and then I take my bike in for a tune up or a new tube, and it's always fully satisfactory, always affordable! This year I convinced my girlfriend to buy a bike. We went to JC and he helped us pick one out; it was a perfect match for her, and at a great price for what we bought! Recently, when her brother was in town, we went to JC to see if we could rent a bike for the day. He told us he doesn't usually rent bikes out, but that he would make an exception for such loyal customers! While we were there, many people came to the shop, wanting repairs and such, and it was very busy! JC tried to help us quickly, but we could not seem to find a bike that fit her brother, or that was ready for the road. Under the pressure, JC decided to let us BORROW his bike for the day! What a privilege! He really went above and beyond, and because of his generosity we got to have a great ride down to the beach. I visited JC Bicycles previously when I was in the BK area and was looking for an affordable commuter bike. I did not find anything I liked that day, but the store workers were not helpful at all, so I left without purchasing anything. However, I would recommend going to a different and more reputable Local Bike Shop. Since my original visit, I have seen several posts about this store having disputes of dealing with stolen bicycles. I would imagine if this were an upstanding business, there would not be any doubt on where the bicycle inventory comes from. Whenever I purchase a bike from a Local Bike Shop, I expect that the bike arrived at the shop with clean records, and would never imagine an LBS reselling stolen bikes. I would highly advise anyone looking to buy a used bike from JC Bicycles to double check the Serial Numbers and run it on all the official bike registries before purchase. Good luck!!! read more

JC is very friendly, knowledgeable and personable. He seems very open and engages all his customers with passion about cycling. I bought a bike from him and he changed the seat post for free to make it more suited to my height. When I returned a year later he changed the kickstand for free and oiled the chain which was very customer service-minded. I have serious doubts about the customer claiming he had her stolen bicycle, that story does not jive with my experience of this store or proprietor. read more
