This used to be our go to, neighborhood pub. We ate here almost once a week, then it changed. I know that we are probably the only people who ever ate their portobello sandwich but vegans have to eat. Yes, they now serve a vegan burger but we would rather have a shop made black bean sort of burger. Not everyone can eat the mass produced ones. That said, they do have excellent fries and beer selection just nothing hearty that a vegan can enjoy. Do know that we always had impecable service and always loved the ambiance. In our travels we always try local establishments because you get unique items and Brooklyn's Backyard was a perfect spot. We were greeted right away and seated next to the bar. Couldn't of been better because the bartender had a great personality and was very helpful with the menu items. Lots of different items to choose. Hubby decided on the meatloaf and I had the pulled pork sandwich- yummmmm. Very well done. Portions were nice for two hungry people and a flight of beers (some local) rounded the meal. Oh, and the rum cake with vanilla ice cream was a sweet treat. The establishment is located in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking and it doesn't have an inviting look from the outside but once you step in it has a great vibe and the decor is really cute. Very disappointed because we read the reviews stating that was the best pizza in town. The pizza was overloaded, soggy and had canned mushrooms. My daughter also didn't like her kid burger. She usually ALWAYS eats it completely. I like to support local businesses, but the quality has to be the #1 priority. Wow!! I am here visiting from Connecticut and came here with my parents. We started off with delicious garlic knots that were clearly not frozen or from a box! Followed by the angry orchard burger cooked medium on a bed of baby spinach instead of a roll. My mother had the wings with a salad and my father the mahi tuna. We have been to Brooklyn's numerous times, ordered takeout as dined in. We are rarely disappointed. The food is quality. The Chef's Specials are always a unique, creative mix of flavors. The beer selection is really good. Look at the almost 300 reviews and see that most people really enjoy eating here. People have off days. So do restaurants. It seems that people would take that into account before leaving scathing reviews. But in our outrage culture where coming up with witty zingers to criticize other's work is rewarded, we shouldn't expect much else. read more

We had dinner here after zip lining, a party of 4, 2 oldsters and the grandkids :-) Fifteen year old had fettuccine without adding meat, it was very creamy but not too thick. She had plenty to eat with leftovers. Also had a Caesar salad, lettuce was fresh, dressing was the right amount. Twelve year old had 10 BBQ wings, four leftover. They were crispy enough, sauce was sweeter than expected, meat was moist. He loved them. We had "The Big Cheese" - garlic bread with mozzarella, it was standard. We also had the garlic knots, they were good, marinara was very good. Hubs had "The Italian" sandwich, liked it a lot, loved the fries, very satisfied! This place used to be a staple for us but as of late, I can't recommend it. The fettuccini Alfredo used to be so good I would crave it, not sure when the recipe changed but the last three times I've ordered it, it has been extremely bland. The blackened chicken on top used to seem like it was freshly grilled and seasoned, but I just ordered it tonight and it doesn't taste blackened and it looks/tastes like reheated frozen chicken. The mac & cheese used to be amazing and extremely rich, tonight the noodles were kind of dry, and the light coat of sauce it did have tasted bland as well. I loved this place so much with the fun backyard ambiance and consistently great service, but I can't eat flavorless food. Here's hoping someone there sees this and makes some changes! read more

My partner and I randomly stopped off the highway for a quick rest. It seems as soon as we pulled into the gas station we were googling the nearest food location. Brooklyn's was the one that caught our attention. This location is adorable and interesting! Plenty of space for multiple parties and clearly a great place for families. If anything you MUST try the Pierogies! Honestly we have never tried them before and don't think anywhere else could ever hold up to how good they were. My partner ordered the pork sand which, which the menu description didn't tell us that it would be an inch thick! The portion was extremely large and the price was so well worth it. I personally tried the special, it was sweet chili shrimp over a bed of pasta. Turns out I was the first customer to order it since it was a brand new creation! It was wonderful, shrimp were cooked perfect and there was plenty of pasta to go around. The owners even came to the table to ask for feedback on each menu item, very sweet couple. This is seriously a Gem of a place, I really hope I get the chance to come back and visit! read more

We loved the garlic knots, which are huge BTW, they were soft yet perfectly browned and a little crunchy on top. Marinara was amazing as well and served hot! Brick city chicken was delicious. The make-your-own burger was delicious and seasoned like my dad used to make. Mac-n-cheese was fantastic and perfectly done. Fries were really the best part! No frozen fries here! Brooklyn's Backyard is tucked away in a small strip-mall, between a discount department store and a liquor/wine shop, but don't be quick to judge. After reviewing the vast menu before going, we were both still unsure what might tickle our tastebuds, but smelling the burgers as we walked in, our decisions were made ... we just had to decide WHICH burger! We decided to share a Caprese Salad while we perused the options. Although the thick-sliced tomatoes weren't vine-ripe (after all, it's February), the salad was good. Hubby enjoyed a couple of their local beers on tap (Reel Slo Irish Red & Kentucky Bourbon Beer) and ordered the St. Croix Burger with Mac&Cheese. I opted for water (I'm the DD) and the February burger special ... Fireball Bacon Jam (with fries). WINNER!! One of THE best burgers I've had in a LONG time. For dessert (hubby ALWAYS gets dessert), the Rum Cake with ice cream hit the spot! Our server, Johnny, was attentive, personable, and gave great advice on the various options we considered. He definitely steered us right. We are only in this part of Florida for a couple more weeks, but will be making the 45-minute drive back before we head north. Yepper, it's THAT good. Wait! What? Five stars for a little restaurant in a strip center, am I nuts? You bet I am! I'm nuts about the burgers and the too cool atmosphere. As I mentioned this joint is located in a nondescript shopping center on the edge of Ocala, it's nothing special on the outside but when you step inside then it's a different story. Filled with mismatched lawn furniture it's like going to a BBQ at your drunk uncle Ralph's place. You know the foods good and you're going to have fun. They have a huge chalkboard with the daily specials listed on it and they feature a burger of the month and that my friend is where their sweet spot is. My last visit here was in March where I had the best burger I've ever had. So when my buddy wanted a burger I knew right where to go and they didn't disappoint. Perfectly cooked and seasoned the burger included fried jalapeños lettuce and a custom made spicy but not to hot sauce it was a perfect blend of flavors with each bite better than the last. As you noticed I haven't mentioned the bun yet. As good as any burger is it will lose big points with me if the bun doesn't maintain its integrity or is tasteless. This is a darn good bun, thick, tasty, but still light. It's a perfect combination. You also get a side with the burger and I choose the Mac n cheese, what a great choice. A huge serving I took most of it home. It was perfectly cooked with an ample amount of white cheese and ground cheese lightly toasted on top. So the best burger I've ever eaten, try to keep me away from this place I dare you! read more

The table next to ours was a big party of gentlemen and they each got a variety of lunches that looked fabulous. Our server, David, was great and we enjoyed our first time there. Sally's goat--the best burger I've had in Florida. Cheated a bit because I asked for a smudge more of the fig jam in my burger because fig jam atop of goat cheese is gift from heaven. Appreciate the fact they didn't skimp with the goat cheese--experience has taught me places tend to error on scanty,rather than laying out a thick layer of goat cheese crumbles like Brooklyn's did. We went to meet friends last night. Walking up to the place, I was like, "Did we make a mistake?" But once we walked in the door, we knew it would be fantastic! When you walk in, it's like you're transported to the huge backyard of a friend, including wood fencing, patio/outdoor seating and a deck - but with air conditioning and no pests!! We are plant exclusive eaters, and our friends are not. Our server answered all questions, and noted all changes. All of our special requests were accommodated with friendly conversation, and each dish was delivered properly prepared. Prices were VERY reasonable. We all had 2 beers each. We had a vegetable pizza (half with no cheese) and 2 large salads for appetizers, and then we each had an entree. All of the food was served at proper temperatures, and was well prepared. The atmosphere is very casual and is great for families, too. The server did not rush us out, and we shut the place down.... Great night with good friends in a fun atmosphere! read more
