We went in yesterday evening (Friday).Hostess that greeted us was not very friendly so my initial impression was nothing special. However, our server, Jesse was awesome-friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband had a burger which he said was very good. I started with the blueberry mojito which was also very nice but for me the highlight was the food. Ordered the loaded potato soup (very good) and the chef's rice bowl with pork. OMG-perfect comfort food. The portion was very generous and soooo yummy. Could eat it again tonight! Restaurant is super casual which suits us fine. We will definitely be going again read more

Actually thought I had reviewed this place previously - we've gotten about 2 takeout orders a week since October when we temporarily moved to Ocala and the food has been good. Our favorites have been the Sally's burger and the meatball sandwich and haven't had any issues with anything with the place until we ate in. We've eaten in only twice now and after the last time, we probably won't go back. We ordered the same two meals above and when I ordered my burger "medium well" it came burnt to a crisp on the outside and raw on the inside. The explanation was that the line cook had cooked that one but the second burger was perfect so all was well after that. The *backyard vibe is kind of a miss for me, I don't really get it. Just seems awkward. When we got there last time, the bartender was super nice and friendly and then someone told her she had to meet with the owner/GM/someone important and her whole energy changed. Not only with that but this bartender was busy cutting limes and doing other things and you have servers coming over whining that they can't open a simple salt shaker and asking her to do that when she's clearly busy. To be honest I didn't see any happy faces from the workers and I have a feeling why, after reading the responses to several reviews that I see on this page. Honestly owner "Sharon L." should be banned from responding to reviews because obviously she is not very professional with her combative words. Her response to a review from a man who was upset about his sons burger should absolutely embarrass her - you apologize to customers who chose to come to your establishment and they weren't satisfied and hope to get them back. You do NOT go off on a ridiculous list of all the reasons they are wrong and tell them to "stay home and cook for themselves" .. I'm absolutely certain I will get some combative response to this as well but holy cow, it needs to be said because I see why her employees are miserable too. We won't be putting money in her pocket any longer. read more

We were driving through Ocala and chose Brooklyn's based upon Yelp reviews. We gave it a whirl and were certainly glad we did. The service was excellent, food was of a good quality and the price was fair. Try the appetizer caprese salad (tomato, mozzarella, and balsamic) is was really delicious. It serves decent bar food. Inside decor was tasteful and inviting. Service was good. The front door has a posting stating that all credit cards purchases will have a 4% charge added to the bill. That same posting is on the table. The party of 6 I was with all agreed that was tacky and rubbed them the wrong way. No one likes being nickled and dimed, bump your prices by 4% and ditch the postings. read more

Sally's goat--the best burger I've had in Florida. Cheated a bit because I asked for a smudge more of the fig jam in my burger because fig jam atop of goat cheese is gift from heaven. Appreciate the fact they didn't skimp with the goat cheese--experience has taught me places tend to error on scanty,rather than laying out a thick layer of goat cheese crumbles like Brooklyn's did. Amazing burger--flavor profile that tickles my tongue. Plus they truly understand the meaning of medium rare. Yummy and juicy. read more

I used Yelp to find a place close to where I was at the time and Brooklyn's Backyard and very pleased that I decided to go here. The restaurant was decorated very nicely. the food was excellent ( I had the Sally's Goat burger with coconut rice and the Mac and cheese and my husband the Italian sandwich with fried). They weren't very busy while we were there, it was a Thursday after 2. Our waiter was Dave, we asked how busy the place would get ( just moved here end of July so not familiar with things) and Dave answered our questions and gave a couple more places to try out. They offer specials several times during the week/weekend. We have friends coming in first weekend of November and are planning on taking them here. I didn't get pics of our food though. We went to meet friends last night. Walking up to the place, I was like, "Did we make a mistake?" But once we walked in the door, we knew it would be fantastic! When you walk in, it's like you're transported to the huge backyard of a friend, including wood fencing, patio/outdoor seating and a deck - but with air conditioning and no pests!! We are plant exclusive eaters, and our friends are not. Our server answered all questions, and noted all changes. All of our special requests were accommodated with friendly conversation, and each dish was delivered properly prepared. Prices were VERY reasonable. We all had 2 beers each. We had a vegetable pizza (half with no cheese) and 2 large salads for appetizers, and then we each had an entree. All of the food was served at proper temperatures, and was well prepared. The atmosphere is very casual and is great for families, too. The server did not rush us out, and we shut the place down.... Great night with good friends in a fun atmosphere! read more

Wait! What? Five stars for a little restaurant in a strip center, am I nuts? You bet I am! I'm nuts about the burgers and the too cool atmosphere. As I mentioned this joint is located in a nondescript shopping center on the edge of Ocala, it's nothing special on the outside but when you step inside then it's a different story. Filled with mismatched lawn furniture it's like going to a BBQ at your drunk uncle Ralph's place. You know the foods good and you're going to have fun. They have a huge chalkboard with the daily specials listed on it and they feature a burger of the month and that my friend is where their sweet spot is. My last visit here was in March where I had the best burger I've ever had. So when my buddy wanted a burger I knew right where to go and they didn't disappoint. Perfectly cooked and seasoned the burger included fried jalapeños lettuce and a custom made spicy but not to hot sauce it was a perfect blend of flavors with each bite better than the last. As you noticed I haven't mentioned the bun yet. As good as any burger is it will lose big points with me if the bun doesn't maintain its integrity or is tasteless. This is a darn good bun, thick, tasty, but still light. It's a perfect combination. You also get a side with the burger and I choose the Mac n cheese, what a great choice. A huge serving I took most of it home. It was perfectly cooked with an ample amount of white cheese and ground cheese lightly toasted on top. So the best burger I've ever eaten, try to keep me away from this place I dare you! read more

Just had to post this, you know what... maybe this joint needs Gordon Ramsey to come to this joint and wake up the owner. Stop making excuses, the patrons and customer's are the Kings and Queens of those that go out and spend their hard earned money while dining, even the retired worker, who like me, live on a fixed income have a voice. I don't see a favorable future for this joint. Up Date... Just received a reply from Brooklyn Backyard, and instead of taking my complaint seriously, she just starts making woke excuses for the server. Doesn't matter Sharon, you lost my business, as I was avoiding certain wording to avoid me from being bias to how I felt I was being treated - Man, what happen to this place, it used to have great pizza. We were near by, so I thought to grab a pizza pie, mashed potatoes for my daughter. First the Pizza, since moving out of the area about 3 yrs ago, we had frequently bought take out pizza here, yes as other say, it reminded us of NYC Pizza, but this time around... something was off. They changed the sauce, it was sweet, and the cheese wasn't the same either, as for the dough, it was the same and well cooked, but the pie was at least 2 inches smaller, and the sauce and cheese didn't reach to the end of the crust, also there was at least 2 inches from where the crust ends was empty. The dough was very thin, and our added topping, mushroom was like cheaply scattered. Now the person serving me was acting a bit strange, like I didn't belong. Now the same guy with his man bun and ear ring, would not tell me how much of a portion was in the small cup of mushed potatoes,. He said, only one size, a small cup at 3.86 per cup. He wouldn't even bring me the cup that was used for the mash, and walked back to the kitchen area 4 times. I then purchased the mashed potatoes else where, the two went for 8.46 and I received a generous portion in a 5" tray at 2 1/2" deep with plenty of gravy for the mash. The service counter person kept from making eye contact as I waited more than 15 minutes for my pie. Now for the price... over 19.00 dollars for what supposed to be a n 16" pie that was more like 14" pie. We the consumers are not stupid and know when you businesses are cutting corners to save on the portions and then charge more to boot. I will not be going back to this pizza joint. read more

We were seated immediately and got our drinks timely. That's where the positives end with this experience. We ordered food and then waited and waited.....45 minutes into the visit and our server checked in and said our food should be up soon. At this point our two kids meals (pasta and chicken tenders) came out and we were told "it's pizza and wings day so the pizza oven is busy". After an hour at the table with no food and seeing tables seated after we ordered were finishing up eating, we made the decision to leave. A woman in a red shirt (I assume the manager on duty?) told us our food is ready now and we can take it to go if we want. Again we were told about the pizza oven being busy but there was no explanation as to why others ordering after us had received their pizzas. My husband and I have been on the lookout for decent pizza since moving from NY, and it is hard to come by here! We stopped in for lunch and decided to try the wings and pizza. We ended up sharing a white pizza with balsamic glaze and some veggie toppings, I can't remember what it was called. But either way it was delicious and finally satisfied our cravings for good pizza! I ordered the Angry Orchard burger with Mac & Cheese and was not disappointed. Lots of great flavor, burger was cooked just right, and it was nice and juicy. Mac & cheese was gooey hot and very filling. I ended up taking half my burger home. My friend had the chicken sandwich with a side salad and loved both. Staff was super friendly. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the hostess and seated promptly, which was the highlight of our experience. However, the service took a downturn from there. Despite placing our order shortly after being seated, which included strombolis, a kids meal, and a hamburger, we waited for an hour and only received the kids meal with overcooked chicken strips. Understandably, it was a busy day, but it was frustrating to hear that the pizza oven was running behind due to a special. What baffled us more was seeing tables seated after us receiving their pizzas first. Although the manager (assuming it was her, as she didn't introduce herself) offered to comp the missing food for us to take to go, it was too little too late. We paid for what food our kids got and drinks and left. With a father who was a James Beard awarded chef and ran a 5-star Michelin restaurant in New York for over 30 years, I have a grasp of the food industry and value customer service greatly. More proactive communication during our visit and proper introduction from the manager could have salvaged the experience.
