The young lady who was our waitress was so sweet however she barely understood what we was saying- we had to repeat ourselves at least twice ! drinks was watered down and we when expressed our dislike for drinks the waitress said o I need a reason in order for me to take it back !! I kind of love this spot. The vibe and the atmosphere is always dope. The drinks are super strong and the food is delicious. I've been continuously working my way through the menu. The curry mussels are a must-have. First of all, they're huge! I really wonder where they are finding mussels of that size from. They come in a simple appetizer plate on a bed of greens which soak up the seasoning nicely or as a dish with an additional 4 (i think) and your choice of side. I'm partial to the macaroni and cheese. The jerk chicken is very tasty but you can get equally as tasty jerk dinners from your local Brooklyn carry out for less. It's good but it's not necessary to the average Brooklynite who may already have their preferred jerk spot in their respective neighborhood. The crab cakes a delicious but they only come in 3s and you may not want to share. The spicy shrimp is a standout appetizer that you actually can share. It's perfect! I tried the whiting off of my friend's plate. It was cool to me but I don't really eat too many fish dishes so I don't have much of an opinion. She loved it though *shrugs*. Now to the drinks...they're the added selling point that would bring me in here multiple times in the same week. They're not the cheapest outside of Happy Hour which I always seem to miss (they've got great deals everyday) but they also aren't absurdly priced. I love this place, I was looking for some soul food and found it here. I came here around 11am on a Saturday and they had brunch. I got the jerk chicken wings with homemade potatoes which was amazing. It was a little spicy which I really enjoyed. They also had $1 mimosa which by itself will keep me coming back here. My friend got the french toast, I tried some of her food and it was also amazing! So soft and tasty that you don't even need syrup on anything else in it to like it. The service was great, the waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I also like the set up in here, they have a sign by the bar area that says "Do the right thing way." 4.25 stars! What a difference interior design and a change in staff make! I came to Brooklyn Moon a few years ago and the food was delicious but the service was horrible. I met a dear friend there again on Friday evening and was presently surprised with the changes. After a long work week, I made a beeline for the bar and ordered a Brooklyn moon (light and dark rum, fruit juice, etc). We also ordered a few sea breezes and shots of rum. We had the jerk chicken wings to start, then my friend had grilled tilapia and I indulged in the fried chicken, mac and cheese and yams. Everything came out in an orderly fashion and was absolutely delicious. We cleaned our plates. I wanted to try dessert but was entirely too full due to the large portions. The service was impeccable. Our server, Ketty, was attentive and checked on us regularly. Our busboy, Amir, was really sweet and kept our water glasses full, table clean and tea candle lit (which we kept blowing out accidentally. lol). The restaurant got really packed and loud around 7:30 and it became difficult to have conversation with people next to you. Ah well, still a good place to hang out. The food here was pretty darn good, very darn filling, and yea the food was great. The drinks were priced well, and though tasty not too strong. Always wanted to try the place. Went there with a party of 8 on a weekend afternoon. They had us waiting outside at first. It seemed like they would've forgot about us, had it not been for one of the persistent hounding of a friend. Another round of the food waiting when we were finally seated, this time close to an hour. By that time my stomach started chewing on itself and started to develop a headache. One of us was tipsy since her drink came wayyyyyyy before any food. Since we were a group i got to sample everyone's food. I had fried calamari. Since i was the only who ordered an appetizer everyone jumped like wolves on my plate. I had honey BBQ honey wings with plantains and rice and beans. Honestly everything was good, even my friend's salmon salad. Drinks were great. I really liked the rhum punch. I would've given them 4 stars but because of the service it had to go down 2 notches. Yes 2, because GOOD FOOD CAN NEVER EXCUSE BAD SERVICE. It got so bad at one point that our waitress avoided any eye contact with us. I love the ambiance and they're usually playing my favorite neo-soul jams in the background. My favorite drink is the Iron horse, it's good but proceed with caution! It sneaks up on you. The crowd here whenever I come is 25-30 aged black professionals and it's a pretty friendly environment if you're going out for girl's night or even as a date with someone. We were pleasantly surprised with the level of service as well as the bottomless mimosas at $1 a glass with a brunch entree purchase. The flavors were Mango, Guava (my favorite), Pineapple, Grapefruit, and Cranberry...very sweet and worth the slight mimosa headache. What's wrong with saying, "sorry ladies but please wait to be seated." A group of ladies next to us heard what happened and told me they had a bad experience with him and his tone in the past. Not surprised. When I asked to speak to him outside you could tell I triggered a nerve. All I asked was why do you think it's necessary to speak to women like that? His response: "That's what you wanted to talk to me about? I don't have time for this. Have a good night." I was not rude or nasty at all. It reminds me of the sweet chicks in willamsburg just smaller. The parking is typical NYC parking so bring cash for the meter, unless you get luckily and find street parking on the side street. During my visit today I was told there was a 25 minute wait for a party of two which is fine, but since there were 2 tables available I was confused. Upon asking about the open tables,I was told they only sit 3 people there which made no sense, since there were about 3 parties of 2 waiting and honestly what they were considering a table for 3 wasn't. You cannot eat at this place without a taste of salmon burger or their jerk chicken. I would say to have a thick skin as their service is bi-polar-- either it is comforting and swift or they down right ignore you. Love the greens and the fish, the chicken is good as well, but the portion is a bit too much for one person. I've heard nothing but great things about this place. I visited this place on Friday, November 15th and it was the worst dining experience of my life. It took over 30 minutes to receive my drink. I left my table to approach the bartender to inform her that I haven't received my drink yet and she told me it's coming but went right back to chatting with her friends. The bartender and her friends were so loud that it made it obvious as to why people weren't getting their drinks. The guests near me also had complaints because the waiters kept bringing them the wrong drinks. Food: The food was disgusting. The Mac and cheese was dry as hell and tasted like it was made with processed cheeses. It wasn't seasoned at all. The crab cakes were definitely bought from the grocery stores frozen meals section. They gave you 3 crab cakes for $10.95 but the crab cakes wasn't any bigger than McDonalds chicken nuggets. They actually looked like tiny meat balls. The homemade sauce they used for the crab cakes is nothing but mayonnaise. Atmosphere: It's real cute, great vibes and music.
