When all of our friends said not to go to Brooklyn Crab because it was insanely overpriced and just all around terrible service... we (my husband and I) thought, honestly how badly can they mess up crabs and the place looks beautiful. Boy were our friends were right! This place sucks on so many levels! Let me set the scene: it's a gorgeous day out, 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a Thursday and only 1 other table had people at it. Ok... let's move forward... We sat down and the umbrella was still down, they must have been open for a few hours by now and the umbrellas are still down? Weird. So, my husband opened the umbrella with no help from any staff, which isn't a big deal because it isn't brain surgery but still, come on, why are paying customers doing this! The waitress comes over, who was kinda nice and takes our drink orders. My husband asked what the "cheap cans" $3 and she had no clue and thought it was Narragansett, so he ordered that. We then ordered our food, the 2 wedge salads, Jonah crab roll, clam strips and an order of fries. After about 20 minutes we got one salad. When I asked the manager where our other salad was she said she will find out. Another 15 minutes later we got the other salad. Now let me explain this sad sad salad to you... it was $8.50 for a wedge of iceberg lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes cut in half, some red onion and a few chunks of blue cheese. Yes it came with bacon but we didn't want the bacon. Oh and it also came in one of those ugly wooden bowls that you would get chicken wings in. $8.50... seriously?!?! Even if we had the bacon in it, it should be about a $6 salad. Ok, moving on... I have to say the Jonah roll was good, not overly mayonnaise-y but the chips were stale.
Now on to the bill...our $65 bill. If the manager really cared, she would have taken the salad off the bill as we waited so damn long for it but she didn't! Also, we were charged $5 for each beer. When my husband explained that he asked for "cheap can" which was $3, the waitress got flustered and said she will fix it. She went to talk to that same useless manager again... 10 minutes later... mind you it was to adjust the bill $4, at that point we just wanted to pay the bill and get the hell out of there but we couldn't. Very annoying! When the waitress walked back to our table with the manager, the manager says to us "normally I wouldn't do this as this was explained to you by the waitress but I adjusted the bill. Clearly it was a misunderstanding." Then my husband said "well I asked for the cheap beer and this is what I was brought". the manager then said "well you asked for the cheap can and you got a pint glass." In turn my husband responded "i asked for the cheap can, I thought maybe you poured the can into the glass... I don't know what you do behind the bar." Needless to say, it was a big ordeal about nothing. Take off the $4 and move it along... it was a $65 bill!! We had a $70 lunch that was so not enjoyable! I guess that term "the customer is always right" does not apply at this joint. Plus, why would the manager come over to talk to us? It was as if we were being reprimanded.
We will never go back there again and we will tell our friends not to go there... oh wait they won't go there ever again either! read more
