We've gone to BK Crab three years in a row for my friend's birthday and we've always had an awesome experience up until last weekend. Here is the saga: we arrived at 12:30, right after the place opened, and started drinking right away. We ended up with about 15 people, all happily drinking and spending lots of our hard-earned money. Of course, drinking = need food, so we went to the bar on the ground level and tried to order fries. Nope, the downstairs bar said we can't order fries there. Try the upstairs bar. Fair enough, except that the upstairs bar says they're too busy and if we want food, we need to get a table. We wait ONE FULL HOUR for a table (and continue drinking and spending money in the meantime) and finally sit down and cannot wait to order our fried goodness. Waitress who shall not be named stops by and we order a big round of drinks. She comes by again and we start our food order; the first two of us order fries, the next two order fries and fried clam strips, and the waitress puts on a nasty face and asks if any of us are ordering entrees. We explained that we just wanted appetizers, drinks and a salad or two, and she said it's not their policy to allow people to sit at a table and not order entrees. We explained our situation and she began to argue with us and challenge our story and basically try to make us leave. At this point we're all yelling at each other so I quieted everyone down and explained that the downstairs bar told us that if we wanted appetizers, we had to go to the upstairs bar, and the upstairs bar proceeded to tell us that we had to get a table if we wanted to eat anything at all, so we did so. We weren't trying to screw anyone over. We were just trying to eat fries. That's all. Waitress storms off to get the manager, and then she and the manager storm back together to again explain that we're breaking the rules, it's not their policy, etc. etc. We said they have an issue with communication between bars and restaurant and the manager says they absolutely don't have an issue with communication. She was essentially arguing for the sake of arguing. At this point it's comical - we've wasted 10 minutes arguing. 10 important minutes that could've been spent putting our potatoes in the fryer so we could free up the table earlier. Finally, the manager oh-so-kindly allows us to stay at the table that we were forced into getting in the first place. Oh, and we are also allowed the great honor of ordering food at this food establishment. The light at the end of the tunnel is that sour-puss waitress was replaced by Kevin, a new waiter who was awesome and fun. We had a big birthday cake and Kevin got a piece because he was so awesome and fun. Two stars only because of Kevin (who deserves five stars himself). Go Kevin! read more

Calamari was delicious, littlenecks were good, pinot grigio was good, shrimp basket with fries was good, Crab cakes...soft no crab 44 bucks! even were a little burnt...just sucked it up. Not worth the treck to Red Hook or the expense! I wanted to like this place, but it's way overpriced for what you're getting. They are so cheap w crab meat in the rolls... unless you call them on it. I ordered a Snow Crab roll ($15) & Alaskan King crab roll $24). HUGE disappointment in amount of crab in each roll. Tasty enough, but much too little meat. Naively, we just ate them... but our friends who joined later had the same experience and they complained and got more crab meat added. At least they got $40 worth for the $50 they paid... I attended the 2018 oyster fest this past Sunday and was there for all 3 hours and could barely get 10 oysters. The lines were out of control, they definitely oversold this event, which I wouldn't have expected for the high price ($60!). They wouldn't give us plates, even though half the attendees somehow had them. BYO-plate? It means standing in line for 20 minutes to get an oyster or two. Ideally, 1 or 2 people from our party could get oysters for our table (which included a baby), but it just wasn't possible. Last night, my brother and I walked way down into the Hook looking for a decent, informal sort of place to eat. When we first spotted this place, we thought "perfect, time to get our fried fish on!" Unfortunately, when we showed up, we were told that they were no longer seating people and we couldn't be served. This was at 9:40. On a Friday night. WTF?!? I've never experienced service this bad in my life. I visited this establishment on 6/16/17. My party and I were seated quickly. The hostess was helpful and friendly. Our server CORBY on the other hand is who made this experience a bad one. Being that it was our first time there we asked CORBY some questions about items on the menu. I'm sure she's hears these questions everyday all day. So that's why I couldn't understand why she was giving us attitude. Mid conversation she said well I'll give you more time and walked away. The restaurant was not packed there was no wait. She did not have a overwhelming amount of people to attend to. She had more then enough time to answer the questions. Why you ask because she's a server and that's her job. We finally got it together and ordered. CORBY still unpleasant it read all in her body language. Food came out in a decent amount of time. CORBY never checked on us. She didn't ask if everything was okay. She didn't ask if we needed refills on drinks. SHE DID NOT SPEAK TO US. She gave us the bill we paid. You know that little line left for a tip. Well yeah that was left blank. Well CORBY decides to speak to us at that point asking why she's not getting a tip. She gave us terrible service and wanted to be rewarded for it. I know it's shameful to not tip but that goes to show you how disgusted I was by the service. Disclaimer: Cannot comment on the food, but I can say the service was the worst I've experienced in my life. We arrived at the restaurant and were told that it would be 2 hours until we could be seated in the wait-service restaurant area, but that there was seating out back and we could get food at the counter (limited menu but had various sea food options). What they didn't tell us was that the tiny kitchen behind the counter seemed to be making the food for the entire restaurant. The people behind the counter were not taking any orders for the first 30-odd minutes we waited in line because the kitchen was so backed up, but no one at any point told us why this was happening and we were given no timeline on when we would be able to get food. During this period, a large line formed due to the fact that no one could get food. Then, they appeared to start taking orders again, but only allowed 2 more people to order before cutting off the line again. This was on an 85-degree day and the staff seemed to not care at all about the fact that they were keeping people standing in line for almost an hour. Can't really blame the staff as this is clearly a management issue but everybody was extremely unaccommodating, staff were overworked, we were never informed how long it would take, and ultimately had to leave without ever ordering food because they refused to take any orders. People in line were speculating that the entire restaurant's food was being made back here, not sure whether this was true but if it's not I can't imagine what would take them so long that it takes an hour to move up 5 spots in line. Again, I can't comment on the food quality there, but prices were steep and the service was atrocious. After about an hour of waiting on line, we left and walked down Van Brunt St to find another restaurant. Fresh, delicious food, great drinks, PERFECT ambiance. It's a traditional crab house. You get the full experience (i.e. paper plates and paper towels stationed at your table for your mess, an assortment of hot sauces stationed on and around the tables, bowls for the shells that are cleared and replaced as needed, etc.) Just a laid back, no bullsh*t type of place. We went on a Friday afternoon around 2pm. PERFECT time to go. Not crowded at all. We sat on the top level, great views of the water, boats passing by, etc. Got plenty of attention from our waiter, drinks arrived quickly, etc. Shout out to our waiter, Bryant, who was there whenever we needed him and was knowledgeable and friendly. Management and one of the owners both stopped by our table and chatted with us and asked us how we were enjoying everything. Shout out to executive Chef Jason who was kind enough to come to our table and chat and answer questions about the menu. It was clear he took great pride in the restaurant. Food: we ordered a dozen house oysters from Virginia (tasted very fresh), fried calamari and spicy popcorn shrimp. (both of these were seasoned and fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside.) The popcorn shrimp was particularly outstanding. A classic food done exceptionally well. Though it wasn't spicy like the menu implies, it was hot, tender on the inside, and juicy. My mouth is actually watering thinking about it lol. For the main course 3 of us shared a Crab Royale for 2 , as well as a half dozen Maryland blue crabs, and one of us ordered a cod dish. I didn't taste the cod but the plate was colorful and looked amazing, and my dad (who ordered it) said it was outstanding. The crab Royale was like heaven: a couple of alaskan king crab legs, dungeness crab legs, a whole 1.25 lb. lobster, plenty of snow crab legs, some corn. Also my girlfriend is from Maryland and kind of a blue crab enthusiast and she really enjoyed the blue crabs, so there's your street cred right there. The food we ordered was a great size; we were all full and there was enough of every item that no one got jipped out of anything. The best for me was the king crab legs- so fresh tasting, so succulent and delicious. I know it sounds corny but with the sun beaming on my face, and a nice buzz going, I closed my eyes and savored every bite of those meaty, tender legs. Heaven. Then came desert. My dad had some strawberry ice cream and I had a brownie sundae. The sundae could've easily went from good to great if they just heated up the brownie! A simple thing like heating up the brownie goes so far in my opinion, but with the place doing a thousand covers on a busy day, I can hardly blame them for not adding an extra step to their dessert preparation. Lastly the games out back- shuffle board, mini golf and cornhole- friendly atmosphere, we made friends with a bunch of people, the bar was right near all the games so we didn't have to walk far to re-up. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. The view, ambience of the place is outstanding. Service was outstanding! And the food was excellent. My fiancee and I traveled all the way from Harlem to go to this place-she had been before but I had not. The spicy hot margarita is amazing! I asked the waiter if it was really hot and he said, 'yea, it's actually quite spicy, but if you order it and don't like it I will bring you something else.' I liked it very much. We ordered the clam, oyster, and shrimp appetizer, a cold half lobster, and for the entree I ordered the three different types of crab dinner, and my fiancee had the fish and chips. Everything was exquisite! All the dipping sauces were interesting and on-point. The fish and chips was cooked perfectly. Both the fish and fries were perfectly fried-crispy on the outside and tender inside. The crabs tasted amazing, very meaty and flavorful, and they were cooked to perfection-unlike Joe's [corporate chain] Crab Shack where the crabs are served cold already, and the food is of poor quality.
