This place used to be pretty good, and now it pretty much just sucks. The bread/bagels are still fantastic, but the guys behind the counter are really slacking. The last few sandwiches I've gotten here have been very poorly made. The staff in general is inattentive and never seems to really have a grasp of the menu or prices. They appear to have a very high turnover rate. I will say that they have some pretty interesting sandwiches on the menu, but the bad preparation and ingredients undermines what would be some excellent options. The Tuna Bella used to be the greatest tune melt on earth, but at this point I wouldn't even recommend it. Also, the coffee is horrible. BBC needs to get back on it's game or it'll lose even more business. Final note: they only accept cash, which is bullshit. read more

This is my neighborhood spot and since Covid I eat there 4-5 times a week. Not only are the sandwiches great (don't sleep on the excellent, artisanal roles) but the staff is friendly and accommodating. It's also a great perk to have the outside tables if you're looking to dine in. read more

I've considered asking them to hold the surly when I order my huge, delicious sandwiches or morning bagel, but somehow I doubt I would achieve the desired effect. So yeah, to review, the sandwiches here are great. The bread is so well made and yummy, they are enormous, and are full of very fresh ingredients. The bagels aren't the best in the neighborhood, but they're passable for a morning bagel/coffee run. The coffee's also passable. I ordered about $16 worth of bagels on Seamless plus a $2 and something tip and they called me saying that because of an error on seamless listing their french toast bagel for $1 instead of $1.50, that I would have to pay for the difference with cash ($2.00). I didn't have cash on me, and they offered to substitute for another bagel that's priced at $1.00. But I was just so turned off that they wouldn't just fulfill the order over what, $2.00 instead of just fulfilling the order, keeping me as a consistent customer and fixing their mistake later. I ended up just canceling the entire order, which they happily preferred to do. Terrible customer service. Penny-wise and pound foolish. I will happily take my business to Mazzola's or Brother's Bagels instead of this place that nickels and dimes you and doesn't apparently care about your repeat business. read more

The wait at lunchtime for a sandwich was almost unbearably long. I was on a deadline (i.e. lunch break) and had no idea I would be waiting 10 minutes, anxiously checking my email. It was also very confusing about where to stand, when to pay, etc. It got crowded with high school kids and I had to keep dodging them while I waited. This place confuses me, and overall, I can't really figure out what's wrong. I do enjoy the different style of "bread" in bagel form, it's unique, but it's not a bagel. Best bread ever! Well from my experiences thus far anyways! $5 egg/ham/cheese sandwich (on their homemade fluffy toasted foccacia bread with fluffly light eggs, quality ham and creamy cheese) and its HUGE! A big round huge one! I've also had italian sandwiches there that are incredible, they make anything you want. I had imported prosciutto, pesto, mozz, red peppers and arugula on their foccacia with balsamic vinegar and olive oil and it was SPECTACULAR! I am a decent eater for my small size and I could only eat half the sandwich for $8.95. Never had their bakery items like cookies and stuff but they look good, will have to try sometime. Want to give them 5 stars, but something is stopping me. Not sure what, exactly. The bread (rolls, bagels, heros, etc) are very fresh. Baked right on the premises. The sandwiches have been consistently huge. And from the look of other customers salads -- the portions are gigantic whatever you end up ordering. Quality? Pretty good. I went there for breakfast this morning and swallowed my sandwich in a 3 breathes. It was delicious. Service is pretty fast, as well. I haven't been there during busy hours -- but for the times I've stopped in, my sandwiches were ready in no time. I need to stop there at least two more times and maybe i'll jump to the 5 stars. You develop a special place in your heart for the places that are open when you get done with work in the early morning hours. Brooklyn Bread is there when I get off the train and the rolls, bagels, and muffins are all warm and fresh. The rugeleh is outstanding, the medium coffee is perfectly sized, and they definately can service the sweet-tooth with the pastry case. More times than not when I crawl out of bed in the afternoon I'm standing in the queue to order one of their fried chicken-cutlet with mozzarella and roasted red peppers. So, so good. read more

Since the move to the new location, they have consistently gotten my order wrong. It took 30 minutes to get a bacon egg and cheese. Or they gave my order to another customer - their ticket system is not efficient. Or they use the wrong cream cheese. Or you order it dark toasted and it's not toasted. Don't go here - breakfast should not bring frustration - there's a Dunkin across the street. read more

The staff here is so-so...sometimes i have to tell them what i want three times before they get it correct and i usually only order a hot black coffee. the place also has some riggity raggity hours...sometimes it is open in the morning around 6am...other times it is pitch black when i walk by on my way to the subway. the ventilation is lacking as well...but let me stop with the complaints. the bagels are delicious...not dense like other NY styles, they are airy...almost not a true bagel, but better. i usually get lox with tomato and onion and it never disappoints. i am so glad this place is right in my neighborhood...it literally makes the whole block smell like heaven as they bake right on location. thumbs up! read more

Never had a bad experience. My first time stopping in it was quiet, only a gent sitting eating a sandwich. I stood looking over the menu when one of the staff ask what I'd like. Quickly saying I have never been here before so I'm looking at everything. He fired back, what are you in the mood for. "A sandwich, but something I've never had before". He called off a meat I'd never heard of, said try it, you'll love it. I did. There were no smiles but he got me exactly what I wanted and it was great so A in my service book. And food for that matter. I stop in every week or two and grab bagels on the weekend. If you like a dense, thick, no-nonsense traditional bagel, this ones NOT for you. It's light and fluffy with a nice ever so slight crunch to the crust with all the seasonings firmly and plentifully embedded. Which I do love. When they prepare it, toasted with veggie cream cheese for me, they do it with care. I love this place and I think their sandwiches are excellent, very different to your run of the mill food you get around the neighbourhood. Their bread is quality but they need to sort the service out. It takes way too long and is quite unfriendly. Sort it out brooklyn bread, manners cost nothing. This place is my family's go-to for easy week day lunches, whether it's one of their salads or delicious sandwiches, Brooklyn Bread always comes through. Most recently we had a socially-distant birthday party for my one year old son in Prospect Park and we got a platter of sandwiches from Brooklyn Bread and could not have been more impressed with both the quality of the food, as well as the ease of the entire process. Dimitri who runs their catering was super helpful and easy to get in touch with, he ensured that every sandwich on the platter was individually wrapped for COVID safety, and was wiling to work with us to ensure delivery was smooth and timely in advance of the party. Not the best place in the world, it looks nice, key work "looks" service isnt great, took me about 40 minutes to get my food after waiting 20 minutes to order.... mind you there werent a ton of people inside waiting to order, but all of the staff had their backs to me. Upon receiving my order, half of it wasnt there and i had to wait another 10 minutes to get two bagels. Overall, not designed well, the menu is too big for them to handle i would go back in a month to see if they get better but i feel like it wont be likely to happen FOOD WAS EHHH AND WAY OVERPRICED. I would rather walk an extra block and go to bagels by the park where the food and service is better and cheaper. read more

Their bagels are a little odd...more like bread than a bagel, but other than that the food is good and the sandwiches are huge. I always get the turkey, bacon, provolone sandwich on a bagel, but the egg sandwiches and fritattas look really good...and they are pretty cheap for such a big sandwich. They don't take credit cards / debit cards which is kind of annoying and they will sometimes deliver...but not always. Brick oven bagels are so light and a delicious alternative to the heavy, doughy traditional boiled bagels.
