As someone who gets sandwiches out at many delis in the area, this place has some things going for it and I wish it was a local place I could support. They have a good drink selection, pretty good coffee, and a sizeable drink selection. The sandwiches are usually quite big and usually the prices are reasonable. However, I use the word usual for good reason here. I have gotten the same sandwich here and ended up once paying $13 and once paying several bucks more. I have gotten a sandwich that was jam packed with ingredients and another time where there is a distinct lack and they both cost the same and in one case was the same sandwich. The presumed owner in front is in the most polite and that's putting it mildly (I'd use other terms but then this review would be removed likely.) I'm not sure if it's because I look young or because I'm not a frequent buyer but he's cold with me while chatting with others. The guys making the sandwich aren't friendly either with similar coldness. For the exact same price point and with consistent sandwiches, go several blocks away to Smith Gourmet Deli which is also 24 hours. If you want an Italian spot with better sandwiches, Dellapietras is close and the even better Caputo's is a few blocks further away not to mention the many other better spots with actual friendly staff such as MozzLab and the like. If I was to judge this place based on the usual price point, the drink selection, and the occasional quality compared to the size of the sandwiches, I would likely give this place a mid 3 or something similar to that. However, if I was instead judging this place on all of its faults, I would get this place a 1. The fact that the people here aren't friendly and the quality control is non-existent gives this spot closer to a 1 than a 4. If this was the only place in the area, I'd put up with it but luckily it's not. I just stopped going here because the attitude and issues overrides the fact that the sandwiches are reasonable and that takes a whole lot for a reasonable price point. read more

I've lived in Brooklyn Heights for many years and never really thought twice about Brooklyn Heights Deli. I just thought it was a typical bodega type store. Then I spotted it on seamless and looked at the menu. Hmmm. Some very interesting looking sandwiches. I tried The Godfather sandwich and I was done. Fan for life. This is the best sandwich spot you'll find just about anywhere. The London Broil Roast Beef sandwiches are my latest discovery! Absolutely delicious. If you're not in the mood for a big meal at dinnertime, a sandwich from Brooklyn Heights Deli is an awesome experience. Combine your excellent sandwich with a Stewarts Birch Beer, Cream Soda, Black Cherry or Key Lime soda. First, the make great sandwiches and have a nice selection of things. But after ten years I decided to stop going in here. They are really rude to people but it's gotten to the point where I actually think it's mean and cruel. I saw one of the owners just scream at a disabled woman for coughing too much and called her disgusting. This despite her being masked and weak looking. They got tons of snacks and drinks for sale, and the deli makes any kind of Boar's Head sandwich you want. I got The Godfather sandwich and it got the job done. Two stars because the food is occasionally very good. Most of the time, however, the order arrives with dry chicken, parts of a sandwich missing (talking about half the meat left out), or with the wrong bread. Don't get me started on timing. This is my favorite sandwich spot in New York. Parisi Bakery in NoLita is a close second, but Brooklyn Heights Deli is #1 in all the boroughs for me so far (lived in NYC 6 years). The staff (Frank, Sergio, Mario, Saul, Gus, Jose) are all veteran New Yorkers and care about their work and it comes through in the food & service. Brooklyn Heights Deli makes the best Italian Sub in NYC in my opinion. I like a non-dry Italian (oil and vinegar + Mayo). If you're into that kind of thing you're going to like it as well. I get it on a hero if I'm really hungry, or a roll if not. Ask to add Mayo because it doesn't come with Mayo default. read more

This is the sort of corner deli that makes NYC great. A decent selection of dry goods line the shelves, and you can get yourself some fruit, coffee, and a good bacon egg and cheese. The guys that run it will offer up jokes and a pickle to go along with your sandwich, and make you feel like a regular even if you aren't. While I appreciate the pickle gesture, I do wish they would wrap it better. It will soak your sandwich through in no time flat, and even your pants if you wait too long to eat. Then you smell like pickle the rest of the day, and nobody will love you. This spot is the only one that sells alcohol in this area, I am almost 22 with a driving permit as my only form of ID. They were incredibly rude to me and enormously condescending he did not allow me to purchase alcohol due to his "belief" that it was fake. I offered to scan it and showed him other sources of proof. Brooklyn Heights deli is different. At first glance, it looks like an out-of-place established deli in Brooklyn Heights minus the intimidating bodega cat you wanna pet and take pictures of. What kept me away for so long is the preconceived notion that they didn't accept credit/debit cards. Pretty ignorant of me, I must admit. As you walk in, it looks a little confusing. There are two long aisles total. Don't be alarmed, though. There is a very big chance that they have exactly what you're looking for. One night, I was looking for a La Croix water (in tangerine) in a can and some Kettle Brand salt-n-vinegar chips to go with my sandwich and had no difficulty. The service I received was exceptional. These guys know how to make a sandwich. The chicken cutlet with mozzarella, avocado, mayo, and onions became my go-to. If you live/work nearby and opt for delivery, you'll be greeted with a smile upon receiving your food like I have. Imagine that. read more

I was waiting patiently in front of the counter (only customer in store, thursday afternoon around 2:30pm) made eye contact, smiled, looked at paper menu- nodded- and folded it, eye contact again- and 3.5 minutes later two ladies off some tour bus come in the doors and talk to each other about tuna salad for a minute---- and the guy at the counter then turns to them and asks them what they want. He saw the look on my face, and continued grabbing rolls to make their sandwiches. A US Postal Service courier came in just after the two hags and witnessed this and was shocked to the point of her jaw dropping. But I was already on my way OUT the door. Totally horrible. I'm not used to bad service. True, I'm basing this review angrily and on a one time experience-- but I'm never going back to revisit this shit. The guy was a douche bag. Cute store that's obviously been there forever, but skimpy sandwiches and they overcharge you. Prices are clearly listed on the board:$4.35 for a sandwich on a roll, $0.50 for tomato, $0.35 for onion (don't get me started on charging for two little pieces of onion), should be $5.15 plus tax. How do you get to $6.85 total for the sandwich?? Are you charging for mustard now too?? And then when I open the sandwich up, it was the tiniest little bit of meat I've ever seen on a sandwich in this city. Insult to injury!! The man made me a great sandwich. We had a good discussion on not putting too much on the sandwich because if you do you simply lose the flavour. While getting lost in Cobble Hill i stumbled upon this deli. I was in desperate need of something to drink and wandered in where i was greeted with a big hello and two smiles from the people behind the counter. As expected from any deli/convenience store the isles are small and tight in order to offer you the large array of items. The small deli counter contained what looked to me like very fresh and yummy deli meets and salads (though I did not order any food). Theres an atm here and the fee is super low, too (they only accept cash) upon purchasing my soda i asked for directions and not only was i happily given great directions but a nice conversation about the area as well. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The owner is a complete imbecile. I ordered a monte Cristo when I went to pay, he told me my money was fake. I gave him a 20 dollar bill that was a 1963 circulation, legal tender and I just got it from an atm machine. He showed it to the other genius working there and he said it was fake too.
