This place is one of the many corner stores in the recently gentrified Williamsburg, and I hope that never changes. If you try to order anything the way you would like it cooked, toasted, etcetera, it can get really dicey really fast. The cook doesn't listen. If it's an egg and cheese sandwich fine, or one of the one's on the board. Otherwise, he doesn't do them properly, or forgets ingredients. Probably stick to the fixed menu on display - there are two of them. The counter staff is fine, and it's a reasonable bodega. However, when you ask for something the way you want it - beware. My friends and my significant other have had to bring things back multiple times because of the incompetence in completing an order, without adding ingredients not requested, or vice versa. These sorts of *bodegas are my favorite thing about New York (even before Taylor Swift arrived). How a 1,000 square foot room can manage to have everything you need - from bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches to batteries to envelopes - is beyond me, but Brooklyn Gourmet Deli does a stellar job of having not only what you need, but elevated versions of what you need. Case in point, I needed some bath wash recently on the walk towards my apartment. I fully expected they'd only have Irish Spring or some other crap bar of soap, but to my delight they had three different kinds of Dr. Bronners to choose from. Being my smell good of choice, I was thrilled... but it seems that sort of next level-ness is status quo for these guys. Bravo! I swooped up a breakfast sandwich during my trip as well, and I'm fairly certain the person who toasted up my roll was 9 years old. Not sure what I was doing at 9 years old (or if it's even legal), but I certainly wasn't cooking up breakfast sandwiches and running a cash register. For most of the summer I walked 30 minutes round trip every day to go to Brooklyn Gourmet for lunch. The man who creates the sandwiches here as of this writing is a delicatessen god. Each piece of meat is sliced from the roast (and cheese from the block) seconds before it is placed into your sandwich. The proportions are perfectly balanced. You receive a free banana and cucumber. Really? Why not write that in the menu so people can go elsewhere and not waste their time standing in line with a bunch of drunks when not everyone who is waiting is coming from a party. Some people are coming from work. You being lazy bc you clearly have the ingredients and I've ordered this same sandwich before around the same time with no line and the ingredients magically appeared. This deli is great. Yes, it looks like your average corner deli, however, there are a number of distinguishing things about this place. The sandwiches are amazing! Why? All of the meats are boars head, the guy making the sandwiches does a great job, they even include a banana w/your sandwich for free!? who does that? Five stars for a deli? Yes. For a deli this is as good as it gets. its a tightly packed shop that is eager to please. They stock their shelves with things that we their neighbors prefer, and they make great sandwiches and have friendly interactions with tremendous efficiency. We start many days with bacon and eggs on a roll from here. I am impressed that the guys remain relaxed although they are working around the clock and occasionally mobbed with boisterous drunk people.
