My mother was mistreated at this eye clinic. She went in and was told she had to sign everything in English because of a "new law in New York," which is completely false. There is no law like that. My mom doesn't speak fluent English, and she told the staff she would write her name, address, ZIP code, and phone number -- but they needed to fill out the rest. That's their job. But they acted like she was being difficult when really, she was asking for fair help. They refused to help her in Spanish and lied about needing everything in English only. That's not the law, and it shows how poorly they treat Spanish-speaking patients. Also, they have false advertising all over their billboard and signs about "low prices on glasses," but in reality, they overcharge for glasses that cost as little as $20. That's misleading and possibly illegal. False advertising can be reported -- and I'm considering it. We will be going back when my mom picks up her glasses, but I had to post this to let people know: This clinic does not respect everyone equally. I walked in Thursday without an appointment to ask a question spoke with Madeline, not only were all of my questions answered but I was able to see the doctor as well. The wait to see the doctor was short and I was very happy to see that they had clear framed glasses which I had been looking for. I decided to get my reading and distance glasses as separate because one was for driving and the other for reading (I did not want bifocals). The distance glasses I received before I left and Madeline ordered my reading glasses which I received the next day. I was impressed with how nice everyone here was. Unprofessional establishment. I walked in on a Saturday and waited about an hour to be seen. Which didn't bother me because I didn't have an appointment I just walked in. When one of the women was giving me my paperwork she asked if I was interested in glasses or contacts. Before I could even respond the other woman behind the counter answers for me and says "both." I had never spoken to her before. She has no idea what I want. But I say okay both because I figure I can inquire about contacts with the doctor during my eye exam. I never once agreed to a contact lens exam. The woman tells me contact LENSES are $90. I say okay because I already know if I do get contacts I would be ordering them online and not through the store. Anyway, I'm waiting for about an hour before the doctor sees me. These people had an entire hour to check my insurance before I went into the exam room. The exam started out fine until the doctor put numbing drops in my eye. The drops only worked on my left eye not my right. She's doing something to right my eye and I keep flinching and blinking, because I can feel whatever it is that she's putting on my right eye. She's insisting I can't feel anything because I have numbing drops in. Um, obviously I can feel something if my body is reacting to it. You are not me. Do not tell me what I can and cannot feel. She should have put additional drops into my right eye instead of arguing with me that I can't feel anything when clearly I can. She then rushed me out of the room to finish someone else's exam and told me to pay for the contact lens exam that I never agreed to and didn't get a chance to speak to her about. That's when they tell me that my insurance isn't eligible for the eye exam and I have to pay $60. No. You had an entire hour to tell me my insurance wasn't eligible. This is your error not mine. I ask for my prescription and she says if I want it I will have to pay $60 for it. Mind you, my medical chart was sitting right there open and on the counter for everyone to see for about 10 minutes before I was seen for them to tell about my insurance and the price of the contact lens exam. Which somehow jumped from $90 to $150. The woman is arguing with me about paying and about my prescription. And instead of letting me speak she continues to speak over me and starts to yell. She's doing all this while still trying to sell me glasses! You've got to be kidding me! During the 10 minutes my medical chart was sitting out there open for everyone to see I took a picture of it. Me nor anyone else should've been able to see my information and take a photo of it , because it should've never been sitting out there in the open in the first place. This place is unprofessional and they dabble in unethical practices. I would not recommend them at all. They do not care about health they only care about selling you glasses and contacts that they mark up to ridiculous prices. Oh and I had a lasik consultation a month ago so I already the measurements of my eyes and cornea. There was no need for me to pay $90 (and then magically $150) for a contact lens exam. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that my visit would be better. Boy was I wrong.I get to this place got my eyes examined and when I get to pick up my glasses of course the prescription was NOT right. I explained to the lady who in fact had a nasty attitude and didn't like that I said something about the glasses that they messed up. she advised that I come back to see the dr. In which I did, around 1-2 weeks later because they always have people waiting, this dr sees me and states he doesn't know what to do because that is my prescription( REALLY!!!) I explain to this Mrs. attitude what dr stated and advised that I will make a complaint with INS. And left the store. What's worst is that the MANAGER was also there brushed off what was going on and didn't evenTRY to assist. I left the glasses and called my INS. And put a complaint. PEOPLE!! This place is DISGRACE!! And the selections are HIDEOUS with the amount that the INS PAYS THEM. I advise that you ask about the frames before you see their doctor. Do I Recommend this Place? Working in the Health field as a PROFESSIONAL Doctor, this is totally unprofessional and very disorganized. She is very careless and doesn't care about a patient's health. I have spent over 2,000 dollars in this business because it is not considered a health care facility being that they only care about the money. If I could give this location zero stars, I would. I came here as a walk-in and they attended to me reasonably quickly. Everything was good up until I was seated with Dr. Rubana Rahman. To begin with, she tells me I can see 20/20 with a prescription significantly lower than what I have been using for the past two years. I understand that the health of your vision could strengthen over time however, I had told Dr. Rubana Rahman that I did not feel comfortable with my new prescription. She insisted the reason I did not feel comfortable was that "people in my generation always want more than what they need." I understand being overworked or maybe frustrated but speaking to your patients in a condescending matter should never be the way to go. I gave Dr. Rubana Rahman the benefit of the doubt and bought glasses at Lenscrafters where they treated me significantly better than this location. As I expected, my eyes did not adjust to the prescription and when I went to visit again, the workers were unpolite demanding me to tell them why I was back several times, and telling me that I would essentially have to pay to get new glasses as if the mistake wasn't the Doctor's fault. This location is extremely unprofessional, I would not recommend it to anyone as it is extremely unwelcoming. (I know anywhere else i would've left. i stood because i had plenty of time spend and it's been a long time i had glasses that i needed but sadly now i know ). During the eye exam was fine the ophthalmologist did his job. After that they shown me four glasses for the insurance they had. i said to them no, this is a joke where are all your glass for insurance. soon as i was about to leave they called and said 'hey' 'ill do you a favor'. they pull some of the better glasses for me to choose. Okay i finally picked one. Then the lady tells me ohh the insurance doesn't cover the shave down. i asked the how much she told $150.00 at that time i wasn't sure again. this is steep i told them. (the moment needing to see clearly). i used my credit card and they charged me $175.00 without telling me she warp around the receipt so i wouldn't see it. as i left the store i looked at the receipt. i went back arguing and almost lost it. cause that was robbery what they did. they total refuse to even given me back the difference. not a refund was given. funny i have to go back there to pick up what i paid for and call Medicaid for what happen. I went to this location only because they are covered by my insurance. I was very satisfied with my original eye clinic but they no longer accepted my insurance so I had to comply with the insurance. It was my 2 year exam as we all know of. I went in June of 2016, First is the sign in sheet which had 3-4 people ahead of me. Fine, I sat and waited to be called. Then 30 minutes later its the forms to complete. Why wait 30 minutes to give me the forms?? if a patient says they're new, give them the forms while waiting to be called by the Doctor!! Waiting area There's at minimum 4-5 clerks working the counter ( over staffed and still inefficient) the girls spend their time prancing around the desk like celebrities?? Calling everyone " My friend or Sweetie" ? If I signed in with a name- please address me as a professional!! service I pay for. Technician Then the young thin girl takes me in the room with about 3-4 machines. Shes preparing the visual exam with one hand and her cell phone in the other and texting and giggling!! at one station she asked me to look into the monitor and got upset because she thought I was not lined up with the lenses ?? I told her the shutter is closed !! put down the phone please I was thinking and then more waiting. Doctor I don't know how many doctors work there but I am referring to the older caucasian guy with the grey hair and glasses about 5 ft 10 inches, about 170 pounds. This has to be one of the RUDEST PROFESSIONALS, I've encountered in my life. He was very impatient with my questions regarding my eyes and answered in a very sarcastic tone. He said I need bifocal glasses which I've never worn before so I had questions as any normal adult would have. His final response was " Its your choice lady- I'm telling you, you need bifocals! You would be lucky if you passed your next road test" I was so annoyed that Hes actually going to be paid for the service he and his staff provided!! He also said I can see far because that's what I want to believe!! I WAS FLOORED & LAUGHING MY BUTT OFF SERIOUSLY!! It took almost a full month to get the glasses which I decided to just get reading glasses because I was not informed enough to get the bifocals. The glasses turned out to be way too strong for me and made me sick and dizzy. I complained to my insurance carrier who stated very clearly, I have to wait for 2 years to pass??? Seriously- I cant believe they get away with this subprime service. Update I just invested $535.00 cash for 1 pair of reading glasses and 1 pair of distance glasses at my original doctors office on 10/14/16. Who by the way examined the glasses from Bronx eye care and said the strength is 50% higher than I currently need! I know and accept as we get older, our vision changes- but don't force me to wear something that is not my needed prescription so you can make a few extra dollars from my insurance company. read more
