I cannot provide not 1 star with my experience here. Patti was a doll, now retired. Long story short, I basically was told that there was nothing that he could do for me with my contact lenses prescription - like I was a lost cause. He kept pushing a prescription where both of my eyes had the same strength just a High & a Low. I wear bifocal lenses for quite some time now & my scripts were different for each eye. I mentioned this to the doctor & I still was told that there was nothing further that he could do for me. What the hell does that mean? Much more to the story but I will leave it at that. Women at the desk was extremely impolite & fresh. Has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had & I've been wearing glasses since I am 5 years old - delt with many eye doctors, if it wasn't that my eye doctor retired I wouldn't have been here at all. read more

Was there for me when I needed it and that is something I don't forget. Long story short, I finally lost my reading/screen glasses after being so careful over the years. Without them, it would be very annoying to use a pc or even look at my phone for extended periods - so needless to say, I was up "the creek". I have an emergency cheap pair that I bought from a supermarket years ago, but I don't like to use them for extended periods. The place I initially bought my glasses from has been out of business for a few years now. I called several places and they either didn't take my insurance or seemed to not care too much about conducting business, telling me that they have no appointments available for quite a long time from now. I then got to Sterling Optical and they not only took my insurance, but they even had an opening an hour from the very time I was calling. I was thinking it would be a week or more, but no - that very day I can fix the issue of my lost glasses. Of course an eye exam was needed and it was something I was delaying for a while to begin with, so I was fine with knocking that out at the same time. The customer service from the phone call to once inside and getting my information was great - I wish more places were like this. Both staff members were great and I felt like I was welcome.....which is something I don't generally feel going to most places unfortunately. So right there was a plus. The ophthalmologist saw me very promptly and was also great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and answered my questions, I was happy that the customer service continued with the exam. I was also relieved that I'd be getting newer glasses in about a week. The prices are what they are - if you want better/nicer looking frames, they can cost. Located in Cross County shopping center - plenty of parking when it isn't the holiday season. You don't need to walk the mall to get there, so you can walk in and out with relative ease. Honestly I never thought I'd give a positive review to a place like this. I thought it would be downhill once I was able to make the appointment - but I was mistaken as everything from the call to the end of visit was great and really solved the issue of trying to use the pc/phone w/ my cheap supermarket glasses for what I thought would be weeks, if not months. I sadly can't recall too many times that an entire visit somewhere was this good, but it was. I don't leave too many places being a "satisfied customer", but I can surely say that here. Bought a pair of Dita frames and just needed lenses put in. I paid 800 for lenses and they fell out in three weeks! Called Dita customer service and was told that Yonkers Sterling Optical are not a licensed dealer and did not have the proper tools to insert lenses since their screws are not like any other screw. Store was small, not a big selection. Sam helped me and was nice,but you shouldn't have touched my Ditas if you didn't know what you were doing. Shotty craftsmanship... They get a one STAR and that's because I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE, this doesn't even deserve MY ONE STAR!! This is the Worst place!! they promise you a week to get YOUR glasses, but 3 weeks later, I had to call them.. WHAT A JOKE!! To top it off they gave me WRONG prescription and were cut wrong, So they redo them it should be ready in a week.. AGAIN!!! I speak to Cathy WHO tells me they should be ready in a few days and ONCE AGAIN!! I waited 2 more weeks and again I had to call them for CATHY TO TELL ME oh YOUR GLASSES ARE 2nd to be cut.. so WRONG PRESCRIPTION AND CUT WRONG.. (hmmmmm) Their frames are VERY Expensive I got "Marilyn Monroe" frames that cost over $200.00 and Cheap plastic and the NERVE to give me a cheap soft brown case ITS double the slap in the face. GVS INS needs to look into these places to see what frames are being offered for MTA Employees. These people are a disgrace!! A SCAM and. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. But a complaint was made as well.. What a horrible experience! I went for my eye exam (I've only ever needed reading glasses) and that morning I woke up with severe allergy symptoms, causing watery eyes. When I mentioned this to Mr. Rokanas, he did not acknowledge my concerns and just ignored me. After my eye exam was completed, he recommended glasses for reading and for driving if necessary. He told me I could see from far and read at the same time with progressive glasses. I mentioned to him that I currently can't watch tv with my reading glasses because it makes everything blurry (therefore progressive glasses sound great) he cut me off and loudly and sternly said "You're not listening to me!" I was so taken aback from the way he spoke to me. He was extremely rude and unprofessional. The cost of the glasses was over $500, which is excessive for essentially reading glasses. I also had to call them to ask if they were in because they did not communicate with me and they were also late. Please stay away from this business and especially Mr. Rokanas!! Staff very friendly, but this place is too old school for me. 1 doctor ( who was awesome) 1 person answering phones, 1 person receiving customers and no real waiting area. Everyone wearing masks, and signs all around that "all glasses and surfaces are cleaned after each customer ". For the 2 hrs I was there, no cleaning. Only giving one star because I can't give less. I visited this location in April and after viewing several glasses with the assistance of a pleasant young man, Sam, I was handed off to a woman to complete my purchase. To start, as we sat down she picked up my glasses to supposedly check the price, before throwing them back down on her desk. Then she professed to be sharing my benefits in chicken scratch on a blank piece of paper, stating that I get 10% off, when I was already aware that my deduction is in the hundreds of dollars plus a discount. Realizing she'd prefer to not serve me and the swindle was on I left. 3 weeks later, while completing a purchase at a Pearle Vision, they were unable to access my insurance benefits - because Sterling had not released the hold. When I called, I spoke to the same woman mentioned above who stated she had no record of my visit or their request for a hold with my insurance company, before stating that I would need to call the insurance company myself. As she spoke, the Pearle Vision rep called my insurance and had the hold removed. The Pearle Vision rep then shared a printout of my benefits with me, hundreds off per frame and an additional percentage. Sterling would have charged me $200 more than necessary if I hadn't walked out. Watch out if you visit this location, get a print out of your benefits and steer clear of the woman with the long dirty blonde ponytail. There's also a Pearle Vision not far away, I'd highly recommend it, they also sweep the floor. read more

Husband & I called in to make an appointment for eye exam and glasses. The location is clean and organized, the two associates Patti & Sam were friendly and greeted us at the door. Even though they were busy the wait wasn't long. After each of us got an exam we began shopping for frames, and there was a good amount of variety for us to find something that fit. Sam was super helpful with his knowledge of frames and styles, and even though my first pick didn't the make the cut, I'm happy with the final result! Patti was so nice and friendly and was able to walk us through what our insurance did and did not cover. They also repaired my glasses and replaced the feet/nose pads on our glasses! The people in this store are the sweetest and most knowledgeable people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. When my daughter needed new glasses they helped her tremendously with her specific needs, helping her to even find the color she was looking for. When I had troubles with the insurance company they did everything they could to make sure I got reimbursed as much as I could and they made us feel so welcome. Wow! I have never had such a great experience at an optometrist office before. I called ahead to check the price for an exam without insurance, to my surprise it only costs $75. The lady on the phone was super sweet. I called them again to let them know I was coming, and was treated kindly again! I got there and everyone was warm and welcoming. Although, I was informed there was a family of four ahead of me my wait time was super short. It was possible 20-25 minutes. I think most of them had been checked. Regardless, it was a short wait time. The doctor was super knowledgeable and honest with me about everything I needed to know. I bought a pair of Gucci frames and the person that helped me deducted 100 dollars because I didn't have insurance. She was very kind to me. I'd go there forever if I could. read more

Just left this establishment SO ANNOYED. Letting anyone coming here to be aware that you make sure to leave with your receipts and make sure if your PAYING for a GLASSES FITTING OR A CONTACTS FITTING that according to the law you are entitled to a written prescription upon completion of exam. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PURCHASE GLASSES OR CONTACTS WITH THEM. This prescription is supposed to be given regardless of whether Optician recommends a course of treatment or not. My son went in to them in March and paid for a contact lense fitting. The optician recommended he not use his contacts for a couple of months because his eyes were swollen. So same day he was charged for a glasses fitting werein he ordered glasses the optician gave him a sample pair of contacts until his glasses got in. He used the glasses from March until August. Then I go back in August to get his prescription from contact lenses exam in March and they try to RECHARGE stating he needed to get another contact fitting. I refused, brought in receipts and then yesterday they find his chart and claim I'm correct he got fitted in March. The script they wrote in March 2018 is in chart. When we go in today for the prescription they claim THEY HAVE NO PREVIOUS SCRIPT WRITTEN IN CHART SO THEY HAVE TO RE-EXAMINE HIS EYES. The manager had the nerve to tell me they are re-examining him as a courtesy. But it should have been recharged. Then doctor comes out of office saying HIS EYES GOT BETTER. How would she know his eyes got better.... It's because they examined his eyes in March. SO BEWARE. KEEP EACH RECEIPT FROM EACH VISIT AND MAKE SURE IT CLEARLY STATES ON RECEIPT WHAT WAS DONE ON THAT VISIT. ALSO BELOW ARE PICS OF THE LAW REGARDING YOUR CONTACT LENSE AND GLASSES PRESCRIPTION. The manager had the nerve to say law ONLY applied to glasses. Optician doesn't seem to remember when she has already examined a patient even though it was 5 months earlier so if notes not in file she will NOT KNOW. So it appears that a patient has to keep copies of their own records and receipts because this establishment will try to charge the customer multiple times for same exam. Also be mindful they also bill insurance. Before leaving get in writing what your paying for. Thumbs down to the Llona sales person who tried to recharge. Thumbs down to the NEW MANAGER who has poor customer service skills, thumbs down to the optician who walks into exam room claiming no previous script then walks out after exam singing praises his eyesight improved. The only two I can honestly say helped was Gloria (I hope I got her name correct) who handled my contact lense fitting order and the other lady who searched for my sons file yesterday and found his record with paperwork proving he was seen in March and a script was written in MARCH. First if you're coming to this yelp page realize that all of the positive reviews are from last year before this store became company owned. Staff is not helpful or informed AND 1. Selection is extremely poor especially if using an insurance plan to help pay for frames. Many of the nicer frames are in display cases and are cheaper than those not inside said cases. 2. Nearly a 200% up charge on every pair of frames. After finding a pair of frames that looked satisfactory in store and then looking them up online I found them to be $200 less online, enough to buy two frames for the price of one in-store with the discount from my insurance. NOTE: They do not price match on frames and considering their up charge I suggest ordering your frames elsewhere and getting lenses there if your insurance covers the cost of those. read more

She got me in to and the staff were perfect. My exam was pleasant and Gloria helped me get perfect glasse. Absolutely wonderful service! I had a great experience with the staff there, beginning from scheduling the appointment over the phone. The staff is warm, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Just finished my eye exam with Dr. Tan and the whole process was quick and easy from start to finish. Nick, who answered all my questions about billing, payment, when my contacts would arrive etc., is also wonderful. I also appreciate how the staff values your preferences over anything else, as they did not push me to buy a more expensive brand of contact lenses. An added bonus for teachers is that they accept the UFT optical certificates, which is why I began coming here. Amazing experience! I've been wearing glasses for about 12 years and this is the best experience I've ever had. Dr. Sohn was awesome, she was quirky but extremely informative. I have been having issues with my contacts and she recommended the daily ones and they felt great. Shakira helped me pick out glasses and she was extremely patient, I must have changed my mind about 18 times, and she kept the same smile and energy through the entire process. This review is for the selection of frames and prices, not the vision doctor as I didnt get an exam. I came in because of a flyer I got in the mail about a deal 2 frames for $99. I thought I would at least come check out their selection...come to find out it was only for the teeniest little selection of frames in the corner - cheap plastic 90s style frames only and plastic lenses only. Everything else was extremely overpriced and a lot of the glasses were "locked" so I would have to ask for the lady to unlock every pair I wanted to try on, potentially tripling the time it would take to try anything on. I had a fabulous experience today with "Patti" at Sterling Optical in Yonkers Cross County Mall. I came to the store because I had just purchased new glasses at a high end shop nearby that did not look as well on me as I had hoped. Patti agreed and let me know why the glasses didn't compliment my face. She then set out to help me choose more flattering frames. Patti is warm and enthusiastic. Most importantly she is extremely knowledgeable about helping to select and then properly fit and prepare frames to be made into--in my case--progressive lenses. I ended up purchasing two new pair of glasses and deciding to have a frame I had worn long ago put back into service with my latest prescription. Patti handled all this for me while also helping folks who stopped by to have their glasses tightened or browse. She gave me very fair pricing as well. I can't wait to receive my new glasses! Not Terrible but not great either. Went for contacts and glasses exam. I agree there is always the "we have this deal..." at any eye glass store, and here it was no different pushing for a "value" contact bundle. I declined and we moved on, no persistent pushing. My knock off of two starts came from the disorganization here. Seems like they have some that just know what to do while others are stuck in their ways. Came to pick up my glasses and contacts and was told contacts weren't in--while I was standing there the lady had a whole pile of delivered contacts, but before the question "are her contacts in that pile" could be asked she stated "no." Wow, I go home park my car, walk inside, and get a call "your contacts are here" FRUSTRATING--I was just there 2 hours prior. The doctor is run of the mill not super great but not terrible just like the store. Wouldn't say I would recommend here, but if you're in a pinch and need some eyewear I wouldn't say, RUN AWAY! read more
