My eye health is super important. I mean.... whose isn't? I started using glasses a couple of years ago for my astigmatism- so I need to do what's right. Hubs on the other hand, has been using glasses since 11- so finding an optometrist to take care of his needs is major. Physicians practice medicine but Dr. Lax is very close to Perfect it. Dr. Lax not only provides a wide range of eye exams but is very on point of what I need. I have presbyopia but wear multifocal contact lens. It is difficult to find ones that offer vision correction for both distances. Dr. Lax gave me many samples to try on but told me which one should fit the best. He was right. I am fairly new to Yonkers and I was searching for a new optometrist. I called Central Park Optical after reading all of the rave reviews and I am shocked to have had such a rude individual speak to me over the phone! Today is Friday and I called to see if they would be willing to squeeze me in for an appt. tomorrow. The individual over the phone said there was only one opening for 12:45pm and I absolutely took that slot. He sound annoyed that I requested a next day appt. and I understood that. I had an optometrist for over 15 years prior to moving to Yonkers and at that place, all eye exams, contact fittings and even exams for glasses were done in one day. I was curious to see if Central Park Optical had the same processes. I began to ask questions about how they go about eye exams & contact fittings. Just from asking questions, the "gentleman," over the phone was even more annoyed. He asked me what brand of contacts I use and when I told him I was unsure, WOW was he even MORE frustrated! I wear daily disposables and I threw out the box months ago. I went ahead and asked him why was he so annoyed by my questions and I am surprised he speaks to customers this way and he said to me, "Maybe you should find another place." I'm sure he did not expect I would confront his unnecessary rude attitude. I said to him, "Yes, Please cancel my appt.," and he hung up on me. If you have any questions, don't ask! Fantastic Doctor! Dr. Lax is the best optometrist! He did a thorough eye exam and I am confidant that I finally have the correct prescription for glasses and contacts! They have a good selection of frames and after looking at the plastic ones I decided that a metal frame would be better. The first frame that I looked at was perfect! He's very patient and took time with me to explain I had an astigmatism in one eye, which would change the prescription slightly. This place is great. Looks small from the outside but has a wide selection of frames. The staff were very helpful and patient. They make good suggestions based on things you point out. I would not have ended up finding the perfect pair had they not shown me something they thought I would like. They are also very knowledgable about the insurance plans. When I go to other places, I feel like I need to read about my coverage several times before going in so that I know how much I can spend. As soon as I signed in, the girl told me what my allowance was and which frames I could look at if I wasn't interested in spending anything over that amount. Dr. Lax is also nice and personable. We've always gone to one of the local warehouse stores for glasses. But I have two problems with warehouse glasses - 1) the frames break within a year and 2) because the lenses are thick, it takes 10 days between placing the order and the glasses being ready. So I tried Central Park Optical for the first time. Quick turnaround on the glasses and the frames look sturdy. But the best is the turn around time! I will definitely return here again. Excellent establisment!!! The doctor is a first rate Gentleman. The staff is super friendly and VERY knowledgeable about the different types of plans. They showed me savings that I didn't even know existed in my plan. They're that customer centric! You'll also notice that they're one of those rare crews that won't oversell you. Between the staff and doctor I was able to find the perfect wide fit titanium frames for my face. Their prices are very fair too. I found their turnaround time to be very fast also. The Doctor is the real gem here though. After another store messed up my prescription and made me mad. This Doctor took the time to make me happy, even going as far as giving me an additional eye exam free of charge. Who does that in this day and age? This is my family's new eye store. I love this place! The ladies up front are the best. They are extremely helpful and will take care to make sure you are satisfied. I also like the selection of eyewear they have. They really have a great variety of frames and at reasonable prices. Once I saw Dr Lax for contact lenses, which I had not worn in years so he let me try a pair for a few days and when they weren't comfortable he let me try another pair and a pair after that until we found just the right ones for my eyes. I was not charged for those but only the set I finally purchased. They really give you quality, personal, customer service and that's rare to find these days. I didn't go to them for an eye exam which is why I'm doing 4 stars. It would be unfair to give 5 stars when I didn't take advantage of their service 100%. Anyway I wanted to put out a wholesome review for them because they really helped me out today. Wednesday night before thanksgiving my 6 year old glasses snapped in half right on the bridge. I had no other pairs and it was a holiday the next day. I drive every day to work and school and can not drive without glasses. I called every place that I knew of in the area to see who took my insurance. I was able to find one place, sterling optical, that did and I made an appt for Friday. Biggest mistake ever. I did my exam and am now awaiting glasses with them. But I spoke to them about my situation and asked them if they had a cheap pair of frames to put my lenses into that I could pay out of pocket for. That alone just seemed like an issue with my tech who seemed annoyed the whole time that she had to be at work. Even the doctor explained I could not be driving without my glasses. I ended up with no solution after they told me their cheapest pair was $100. Today my aunt told me about Central Park Optical and she had a pair of metal frames we brought to them to see if they could take my lenses out and put into. The technicians were very kind and explained to me unfortunately plastic can't get put into metal. But they continued to search their frames for one inexpensive and that would fit my lenses. Another technician came over and pulled out a small box of glasses very similar to mine and had the guy helping me use that. She told me the price they usually go for (which wasn't anywhere near sterling) but said she understood my situation and would give me a fair price (which she did). I assume these were out of style or older frames, but I really didn't care what style or color they were at this point. The tech found me a pair that fit my lenses almost perfectly (perfect enough as a second pair for sure!) and he placed my lenses in for me. The price was fair and all the techs were very customer friendly. Not to mention they take my insurance and I will be going to them in the future. read more
