I went to Dr. Rubinfeld earlier this year to get a basic exam and talk to him about some general concerns I had based family history, not anything I suffered from myself. After doing the basic exams, I noticed Dr. Rubinfeld conducted other exams I don't normally associate with an annual eye exam, testing spacial awareness, tear production in the eyelid, among others. I had no issue with this and chocked it up to him being thorough. Dr. Rubinfeld felt like it was necessary to start me on an eye treatment to get rid of "eyelash mites" and remoisten my eyes, which he said were exceptionally dry. I asked him if this was necessary seeing as I have no issues at all with my eyes. He said yes because things can get worse. I went into the office about 8 times for warm / cool light and steam treatment, and I observed no difference. I asked the receptionists and the eye assistants how long I would need to do the treatments since I didn't feel like they were necessary for me. They said the treatments were normally 2 MONTHS! Once they told me this, I decided to stop going. Today however, I LOGGED INTO MY INSURANCE AND SAW THERE ARE CLAIMS TOTALING ALMOST $20,000 FROM DR. RUBINFELD'S OFFICE! This was from all of the eye treatments he was giving me. Granted, I don't have to pay for this, but I do believe they tried to suck as much as they could from my insurance in as short of a time as possible. This is absolutely WRONG. And this is the main reason why I have to give them a 1 star rating. Again, I do appreciate the fact that the staff were kind and courteous to me, I don't appreciate being taken advantage of because of my ignorance in optometry.

The appointment was equally smooth as I arrived early, was taken after a short wait and was done with exam, new frame selection and fitting in under 30 minutes!!! Again, Mr. Paulino answered my MANY questions with patience and care. The eye doctor was also friendly and informative and I felt comfortable and informed during the entire process. So no more trekking downtown because my NEW eye care spot is walking distance from my crib, too. UPDATE So today I received a phone call that my glasses were ready. I texted today (Friday, 7/4/25) and found out that they are closed until Monday for the holiday. After the initial response by the shop, I received a text from Anna, who sold me the frames, etc. She asked which pair was damaged (I had bought more than one) and told me she would order new lenses first thing Monday morning. I would be able to come in on Tuesday morning, and the lenses would be replaced. I have always been very happy with Eye Gallery, but this level of service is virtually unheard of. While there are quite a few optometry services within a mile of my home and this location, I have always found myself returning to Optics By Vincent. Here's why: Pros - The staff is friendly, professional and very accommodating with their patients. They are kind, conversational and patient with children. - You can try on whatever frames you wish and they will tell you honestly how nice (or not) they fit your face, personality, etc. - Eye exams are very thorough and given by physicians that will patiently explain each procedure and their results. - They accept many insurances including Medicaid/Medicare managed health insurances. - Optics By Vincent has a wide array of frames and prescription contact lenses. - They can do minor repairs and adjustments on-site. Sometimes for a very small fee or free depending on what the issues are. Other work requiring more detail is usually ready for pick-up in a reasonable timeframe of a few days to 2 weeks tops. - Because it is a small location, the staff quickly becomes familiar with their clients. They ask about the well being of your family. The can remember your name, your order, and insurance information. - They have Saturday Hours for those who can't take time off from work. -They are easy to get to The 2 or 5 train to Simpson St. or the 6 trains to Hunt's Point. The BX 11, BX 27, BX 19, BX 5 buses are all nearby CONS You may want to call ahead for eye exams. The location is small without much seating. There may also be designated days for the eye exams. Street parking may be difficult to find due to MTA bus traffic and being in a busy shopping area. Call ahead to find out when your eyeglass order is in to save yourself an unneeded trip if you are anxious. (They will normally contact you though) The decor of the office could use some updating. They close before 6 PM most weekdays which means no chance of making it in there for an after-work appointment without a Saturday visit.
