This place is redeemed, Samantha at the bar was wonderful and did a great job throughout our visit. This was a way better experience then our last visit. I do not give 5 stars out unless it is well deserved. We arrived and they were very busy but only a 15-20 minute wait, we opted to sit at the bar. We started with the crab cake appetizer, it is enough for two. The table rolls came at the same time. The crabcakes were tasty. Hm. Okay, at the start, the service was pretty slow. It took a while to get our drinks etc. But once we got our salads, everything else was on a roll. As far as food, I can tell the food is fresh. The quality of the steak was good, but I can say the flavor was missing a little. It wasn't bad, but it definitely doesn't live up to the hype. My latest dining experience was a complete disaster. Apparently, Briquettes has no dining room manager. My wife and I dined 5pm with a new to us waitress. She was very lackadaisical, more interested in her social media. So we ordered an appetizer delaying ordering dinner she kept checking back saying she would hold the order so we agreed. We finished our appetizer, the salad hit the table immediately. Before we could stick a fork in the salads he meal comes out? WTH! My takeaway after a bathroom visit was 1). I had lunch with coworkers at Briquettes on Schillinger. I've had Briquettes before but I am not sure what I had. Perusing the menu I knew I wanted steak but had to narrow it down. The decision came down to the number of sides. The chopped steak I believe came with 2 sides. I decided to go with the macaroni and cheese casserole and the strawberry side salad. Before we ordered our food, the table decided on some appetizers. The 3 choices we decided on were the fried green tomatoes with Cajun cream sauce, Artichoke Spinach dip, and Asian Almond Shrimp. All 3 were pretty good but my absolute favorite was the Asian Almond Shrimp. I think I could've eaten that for a main meal. My strawberry side salad arrived first. I want to say it was probably the most beautiful salad I'd ever seen. It had tangerines in addition to the strawberries. It also had some glazed walnuts that I think had a hint of cinnamon on them. There was also the vinaigrette that added the final touch to the salad. The chopped steak and macaroni and cheese casserole came out soon after I was finished with the salad. The casserole was good. I don't remember much about it because I pretty much ate it as quickly as possible. The chopped steak I took time with. The flavor was plentiful. I loved the gravy with the onions and mushrooms. It really brought out the taste of the steak. The steak was really juicy and cooked to my liking. I really enjoyed this meal. As far as the service goes, the place was busy for lunch. My husband and I had the pleasure of eating here tonight, it was our first time and let me tell I have no ideal what took us so long, We were greeted by our server Conner and he took our order it came out fast, it was absolutely delicious. Hubby was in the mood for a birthday steak so went for the first time last night. At first glance the decor is nice and the place is fairly well kept up. However after standing there a few minutes, we noticed a strange smell-my son likened it to gym socks. It was fairly strong-maybe they had a roof leak and water issue at one point? Service: We were there a little before 5, and it took at least a good 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a server after we were seated. Drinks were slow to be refilled and it took a long while to bring the check. Server was just kind of blase. Being a little more outgoing and chatty would probably have netted a higher tip. She didn't suggest drinks or appetizers like other places usually do. Now, for the food. Hubby always gets rare ribeyes when we go out, so he ordered that, son got the chicken alfredo, I got the patty melt. Hubbys steak was thin so wasn't really rare, more like a medium well. Potato was good, as was the broccoli. Son liked his pasta and mac n cheese but I thought the mac and cheese by it's texture had sat out for a while and microwaved or something-was tough in places. My patty melt was ok, not really a true patty melt in terms of taste and the texas toast was kinda soggy. The fries were really good though-crispy on the outside and tender inside. All in all, wasn't really a great experience and the smell definitely means I probably wouldn't go back unless I knew it had been alleviated-hard to enjoy a meal with the gym sock/mildewy smell. After checking in around the one hour mark, we were shown a table and told we would be seated there when the party left. After waiting an additional 30 minutes, they seated a different group there and told us they could see us at a smaller table, but only if we can put our four year-old in a highchair because they were out of chairs. This week I met a BFF there for dinner, and I had the glazed salmon salad, sweet potato casserole (I am a sweet potato lover!), and ordered the spinach dip as an appetizer. Yes, I was stuffed. Again forgot to take pics of our food, so the picture of the salad is from my carryout. Also had to box up half of the appetizer. It was delicious!! It's my mother favorite place because she loves the Asian Almond Shrimp. It's a great appetizer. The service was above average. My wife and I both ordered ribeyes. Normally we get filets from there but they were just ok at best. We ordered the ribeye because it is an easier steak to cook and usually, to me at least, it's the most flavorful steak. Ours were both overcooked and tasteless. We've been here 5 times and I have had one good meal. I thanked my mother and will remind her she has two other sons if she wants to go back. To start, the delicious rolls they used to serve are no more, totally different, not tasty at all. Dry and bland. I can't pinpoint exactly what was up with my salad, but definitely not close to what I usually get. My husband gave me a 2 bite size of his steak, after cutting it in half, the bite I took was so tough I had to graciously (hopefully) give it to a cocktail napkin. It was terrible. I do NOT recommend! I have to take my 80-year-old dad here every time we visit him because he LOVES it. they give complementary bread. Who doesn't like a good yeast roll? Yum. We ordered soft drinks and tea, apps, steaks and sides. Shrimp app was great and it's my Pops fave. I ordered the fried green tomatoes app and the sauce looked watery, but I decided to bite into it anyway. It was actually a yellow/orange tomato and the sauce literally tasted like milk and raw garlic. I am 1000% sure that someone literally put all of the uncooked ingredients inside of milk/cream and never cooked/reduced it. It was obvious by the way that it looked that it was wrong so I'm unsure why it even made it to our table. I never send food back. I hate to do that. But this was blatantly disrespectful to fried green tomato tomatoes and crawfish sauce. Shame on the Chef and Expo. We ordered a steak medium well and another medium. One came out well done the other came out medium well but tasted good . The chicken was dry and not yummy. No seasoning. The kids steak was good. they have an excellent kids menu. The sides are OK but one of them didn't make it to the table until it was almost time to go. The onion rings had a soft thick batter that wasn't crispy at all. We've eaten here several time, but the food was never this bad. Our waitress came back to refill our drinks, and my daughter surprisingly saw a tiny roach swimming at the top of her sweet tea. We were mortified! We remained calm we were in shock! And so disgusted. I am very familiar with restaurants both the front of the house and the back of the house. In all my years I have never had this happen at any restaurant that I have visited or worked at. This was not one of those big wood roaches that comes inside sometimes even if you have the cleanest of places but this was one of those little dirty roaches that you see in infestations from a lack of cleanliness. The ones you see from nasty and on the tv show hoarders. if this roach made it into their sweet tea, I can guarantee you that they have huge sanitation issues in their kitchen and at their servers stations. We notified our waitress, she apologized but didn't seem surprised so maybe it happens often. No one from a member of Management approached us and apologized or gave us an explanation. The waitress brought us our ticket with a 25% discount. We left a tip for the original amount of the bill and not for the discounted amount. she was nice and we had a baby with us so I always do a little extra anyway. I was surprised that no one showed up to our table to apologize profusely I would never want this type of review for any restaurant. I'm leaving the review because I was in shock when this happened and I had to let it sink in for a few days. I thought of Every way possible that this could've happened and it became more and more disturbing. Cleanliness and attention to detail when you're feeding people is extremely important. They can make people sick and make or break a business . Management should have come to our table, explained exactly how this could've happened and what he did to fix the issue and our meal should have been comped completely with a promise that the problem was addressed, and that it would never ever happen again. I'm leaving this review now because I had to let the shock and disgust wear off. I wanted this review to be insightful and helpful for the business and for patrons. I do favor this location over the Montlimar restaurant, as it's in my neighborhood and the "steakhouse" vibe is slightly higher here. I have only tasted their steak and it's was pretty good. I'm more partial to going to steakhouses and ordering salmon for some reason. Be that as it may, I am pleased to report that Briquette's salmon is delish!
