While the atmosphere and location are less grand than their Harbor Drive location, you can still get the same food down in La Mesa here. Came for lunch and ordered: calamari: tastes like mozzarella sticks clam chowder: thick and creamy, mod clam portion artichokes fritters: fried artichokes with a great crunch onion rings: moderate portion and came delightfully panko'ed fried fish tacos: fairly Americanized with cheddar cheese and white tortillas (handmade flour ones look different from Mission tortillas) but still tasty free bird chicken sandwich: fried nicely, picked green tomatoes were fun mahi mahi sandwich: refreshing, clean flavors, moist fish cheeseburger: standard, patty cooked to the desired doneness Overall a fine place for a casual lunch or fancy dinner of American seafood in East county. read more

I would give a negative star if I could! Service sucks tonight! . We've never been so unsatisfied with service as we were tonight! And the assistant manager set and talked to the table next to us for at least 30 mins she was just as awful as the service! We won't be going back for a while. read more

Hands down my fav restaurant In East County. The brig is 100% consistently good. I eat there at least once a week and I have been patronizing them for 20 years plus in this location. The bar is always a fun and lively spot to check out your favorite sports with a great selection of craft beers, wine and some fun cocktails. Of course the oysters are always a star on the menu along with their famous fish tacos, spinach salad, seared Ahi, shrimp and insanely delicious macadamia nut crusted halibut. Service Is always friendly and efficient whether you are in the bar, outdoor dining areas or the main dining room. Oh , And definitely save room for their delicious mud pie for dessert, omg! read more

Been a few times and the last two times it's been just ok. My chicken cordon blue was cold Which was sad. The "fresh bread" was Stale to the point we couldn't eat it. Bummer. Service has sucked the past two times. Flagging down a waitress for bread, straws or drinks, boxes. No checking in....like you'd expect in a higher end place? Chefs keep up the good work but please throw out the brown stale rock hard bread !!! I'll give it some time and hopefully my next try will be better as it use to be one of my favorites. Don't know what happened but hoping it can go back to being good food good service again. read more

I remember coming here since high school (2005!) and it's only gotten better Tonight, we came to celebrate my mother and fathers 71/72nd birthday (they are forever 52 in my mind) and the service as well as the food didn't disappoint. Amber was so welcoming and timing between drinks, appetizers and main dish was perfectly timed. I appreciate her attentiveness as well as Ryan W, who is apparently a lunch time server and was a food runner tonight; his attention to detail did not go unnoticed. He gave beautiful description reviews of the dishes as he placed them while making sure any extra plates were taken in the same breath. Chefs! Gorgeous daahhhling! I had the miso salmon and I will definitely be ordering that again as the presentation was easy on the eyes and when taking a bite, it tantalized the taste buds. No pictures because I'm not that person; y'all just need to believe me. They comped our dessert because it was my parents birthday, and it was so sweet to have them celebrated in that way. Momma comes here regularly for lunch with her ladies, who are picky, and they always return with compliments of their experience. I am so sorry to be doing this as my family and I have been coming to this Brigantine location for years. Because of Covid I hadn't been in 2 years and was so excited to go back but what a disappointment it has been. In March I took my friend of 25 years for brunch. My meal was delicious chicken and waffles my friends meal, he had the special prime rib with eggs and potato's, the prime rib was like beef jerky and both meals came out a little cold. The waiter was nice but the meal was not perfect as it always had been in the past. This was not so bad, I thought it was just an off day for the restaurant it wont stop me from coming back again.....and come again I did. My mother LOVES this restaurant, I made a reservation for mothers day. We always take her to this Brigantine. 1. I made the reservation weeks in advance for 4 people. We decided to bring an addition person so I called the restaurant a couple of days later and the gal I spoke to said she could change it to 5 no problem they still had a lot of tables. A few days before mothers day I received a text confirming a table for 4 ....... WHAT?? nooooo. I called the restaurant and told them this was incorrect the girl started to disagree with me but I remembered I had taken down the name of the person who changed the reservation and the date. I gave this info. to the the person I was talking to and she got the manager on the phone, after a little discussion she was able to correct the error. DAY OF RESERVATION 2. The restaurant was SO crowded. They had set up fold out tables to seat more people. This was not good, it was loud and crowded, not the beautiful elegant restaurant we are use to. Waiters and busboys running in and out from the back to set up and take down fold up tables, it was loud and disruptive. 3. Previous mothers days they set out a very nice (endless) platter of pastries at your table it was a delight to get this. NO PASTERY platter this year. 4. It took a while for our waiter to come to the table, when he got there he asked for our drink orders and left. Around us I could see other tables getting their drinks and bread and butter. 30 minutes pass and nothing no drinks and no bread and butter. I stopped the waiter and reminded him of the drinks and asked if we could have some bread brought to the table. He did. Our waiter kinda sucked. 5. fifty five minutes pass no waiter no food I see a manager walk by and stop her. I explain what is happening and she apologizes and says. I will check on this and we will give you a free dessert for your trouble.....(oh brother). 6. Our Meals- Mothers, carnitas plate she said was good. Sisters, chicken and waffles, her meal was cold, when she got a new hot plate the chicken had so much garlic on it, it was a bit difficult to eat. Sister in-law, burger, was not cooked to her liking and she said it had a funny taste but she said it wasn't bad, so she ate it. By the time she got home she was in a cold sweat and was having some pretty bad stomach issues. 2nd sister in-law, her meal was good she had a fish meal......and last but not least, my meal. My meal was good. I got the fish and chips and it was delicious but my fries were cold. All everyone kept saying was "I should have got the fish and chips" What is going on with this most beloved restaurant? I hope they figure it out. I am going to give this location another chance but come on, PLEASE get it together. read more

I made reservations for a birthday celebration for three close family members. It was a wonderful experience. All the entrees were delicious. We all ordered something different and all were very satisfied. The service was excellent. Multiple people helping the server with fulfillment of our requests. They made sure they brought the creamer and sweetener with my coffee. Brigantine La Mesa has beautiful views with giant picture windows and offers multiple dining experiences including outdoor dining. Great job Team Brig for making our birthday celebrations perfect. read more

The Mrs. and I had dinner last night at Brigantine. It was a great way to wrap up a long day of wine tasting. The Mrs. had made a reservation for 7 p.m., but after we got our second wind, we were starving. Driving up to Brigantine, it doesn't look like much on the outside. It sits on the side of the freeway in what looks to me to be some kind of tiered office complex. Walking into Brigantine makes you want to sing a sea shanty. The decor is tasteful in its kitschy maritime style. After admiring the decor, we arrived at the hostess stand. The host staff were all very friendly. I've noticed in some restaurants that the host staff of a certain age demographic seem to be annoyed that you want to be seated. Not the case at Brigantine. The hostess sat us at a small banquet next to a window with sweeping, yet inspiring, views of the adjacent freeway. The dining room is pretty big. You don't realize it from the outside. The bar area has a large footprint as well. It seemed older folks sat in the dining room while the youngsters were in the bar area. Diane, our great server, arrived to take our order and went over the specials for the evening. We weren't quite sure what we wanted yet so she took our drink order, brought us some warm and addicting bread, and let us settle in for a bit. The menu isn't overwhelming like you'd expect from a place like Brigantine. Some of my fellow Yelpers were critical of the small menu and all I have to say about that is if you want a huge menu go to Cheesecake Factory. The Mrs. and I decided to forgo the many delectable appetizers and decided to share a bowl of clam chowder. Being the clam chowder connoisseur that I am, I'd have to say that Brigantine's is in my top five. Very creamy with just the right amount of clams and potatoes. The Mrs. ordered the Crispy Lobster Tempura Tacos stuffed with marinated cucumber-jicama salad, cilantro remoulade all resting on a blue corn tortilla, served with a side of garlic truffle fries and house vegetables. I ordered the ten ounce prime rib with a four ounce lobster tail. The prime rib was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was a tad fattier than what I'm used to, but good none the less. The lobster tail was perfectly seasoned and cooked perfectly as well. It wasn't chewy or stringy. Combined with the seasoning and drawn butter, the lobster tail was delicious. My surf and turf was served with a au jus, creamed horseradish, mashed potatoes and house vegetables. We opted to pass on dessert. Parking was fairly easy to find. The parking lot is large, but narrow so there isn't a lot of room for error. That's an FYI to those of you who drive the family land yacht. Mind your bow and stern. Ahoy! read more

This is such an awesome restaurant to grab a drink after work. The atmosphere is lively and the place is happening. The appetizers are simply delicious and the price is very reasonable. I wanted steak so I got the prime rib. It was huge and I wasn't able to finish it. It wasn't the best prime rib I have ever eaten but it was delicious. I guess I was full eating all the appetizers. The salad was okay. The crab cake and shrimp cocktails were excellent. Overall, I would definitely come back. For Thinsulin fans, there's plenty of green light options. read more

The menu is full of mariscos classics like ceviches, aguachiles, tostadas, and larger plates. Prices range from affordable to a little higher, but the portions definitely reflect that. My husband and I both got tostadas to start. I got the La Special and he got the aguachile tostada, and thinking the portions would be small, we also ordered carne asada fries and a California burrito... which we definitely didn't need... BUTT I am glad we got them because YUM! The tostadas were a 100/10. The portions alone felt more than an appetizer/snack. The La Special was loaded with raw shrimp, cooked shrimp, and octopus, all super fresh with great texture. I just wish there was a little more avocado. The aguachile had that perfect citrusy, spicy kick that makes it addicting. Incredible, and I mean it. Our server also brought out a variety of sauces like chipotle crema, green salsa, red salsa, and sour cream. I added some chipotle sauce to the carne asada fries, which already came with guac and sour cream, and it took it to another level. The portion was huge, especially compared to places charging $20+ for fries. These were around $15 and came with crispy fries, flavorful meat, and a good amount of cheese. The California burrito was $12.99 and really filling with carne asada, fries, and cheese. The tortilla was soft but held everything together well and it hit exactly how a California burrito should. I seriously left with no complaints. The service was amazing, the food exceeded expectations, and this is definitely going into our regular rotation.

They get one star, but in actuality, it is no star...F... FAIL. Extremely disappointed in the Brigantine brand and will no longer dine at any of their establishments. This includes the following brands owned/operated by the family: Ketch, Miguels, Porside, Topsail, Dockside, The Fish Market, and Top of the Market...And that's too bad, the food at several of these locations is pretty good. So why a scathing review. Many people will disagree with this review, but as a customer that has frequented several of these restaurants over the span of nearly 20 years, the head management needs to be held accountable for bad decisions made by one restaurant... aka the La Mesa Brigantine for cancelling a reservation. So here we are in the United States circa 2026 and we are now closing restaurants for a sporting event aka the Superbowl. I get it and that's fine, it has been done before. I have a life outside of sports and honestly, I do not have the stomach to watch what will be mostly likely be ridiculous half time show (IMHO).... I mean it seems to get worse every year. We had made reservations six weeks ago to take a family member out and enjoy some fine seafood. Well....the restaurant calls us today (three days prior to the Superbowl) to informed us the restaurant is closed for the Superbowl.... seriously?! Unbelievable! Even their website does not indicate a closure on that day. Hint: you could have figured out your schedule six months ago.... the Superbowl is a fixed date, and that right there is the point... an example of poor planning. Maybe canceling for the location is a good business decision as most people will be a home watching the game. However, as stated above, you should have figured that out earlier. I would dare the management of the family of restaurants to respond (if you're the La Mesa manager, don't even waste my time by attempting to respond, you shot your arrow when you cancelled our reservation). Most likely nobody will respond, if they do, I have no idea how they could recover this former customer. That's fine, I get to vent as I should for companies that cannot plan ahead or have a lack of attention to detail (BTW, your contact link is out on your website...oops again). read more

We started going here several years ago after our neighborhood restaurant, the Fish Merchant, was sold to a guy who just ran it aground. We've always been happy with our experiences at the Brig, but we know to call and make reservations, and go when it's not going to be too crowded. That way we can reserve the table we want and many times get the waitstaff person we want. (We especially appreciate Miles.) We go there to celebrate our special occasions, and rarely have had any food that wasn't perfectly cooked. Once or twice there has been a bad oyster and they have been super solicitous, making up for that with another (good) oyster, or cup of soup. Sometimes we'll go on a Wednesday when bottles of wine and champagne are half off. Last time we dined there, we were seated next to a family of four and all of them were engaged with their iphones. Now that was just weird. I would encourage you to engage with each other when dining at a fine establishment like the Brig. Act like it's a special occasion because it is. Come on, you can spend 45 minutes without your blinkin' phone. I did notice a few complaints here on Yelp about the service, noise levels, etc., but those types of problems can be avoided if you go at a non-busy time, reserve a spot at a table with competent waitstaff, and put on a happy face. We went there last night for our 23rd anniversary. Normally everything is great at this location. Not so much this time. The swordfish was so thin (swordfish is supposed to be a steak, not a 1/4" fille), and the first bite was cooked properly but then the rest was overcooked. The "Avocado Lime butter" had almost zero flavor, just a light hint of citrus and no avocado at all. The dried out risotto that came with it also had zero flavor, even salt and pepper didn't help. Just a pile of mush. The broccolini that came with it was charred so bad on the delicate parts it just tasted burnt and the stems were so undercooked I had to use a steak knife to get thru them. They hid this under the overcooked fish. The pork chop which was divine the last time I ordered it was also a disappointment this time. Again, the first bite was great then it overcooked right in front of us. The carrots were so hard and undercooked, we had to use a knife to cut them. The only mushrooms in the sauce are the few you can see in the photo. Not enough sauce for the dish. The potatoes were the star. Such a pity. Dishes that should be wonderful disappoint in a tried and true restaurant. The best part of the meal was my oyster shooter that I had as an appetizer. Neither one of us finished our mediocre food. Wish we would have picked a different restaurant for such a special occasion. On a bright note, our server was great!! read more

Bland. I had sole piccata, it truly takes some talent to make this dish so bland, I really don't know how they pulled it off. Maybe omitting the wine and lemon along with any salt. The rest of the menu would be right at home in 1996, except of course the prices. At least they provide a place for all the San Diego "foodies" somewhere to get a swordfish taco, something anyone with a little food knowledge would avoid. What a waste of a species teetering on extinction. Very surprised they don't offer mango salsa. They do at least still use a lot of balsamic. If they weren't based in a city full of transplants and happy hour (drunken early bird) patrons they'd be out of business. The simple fact that an "upscale seafood restaurant" is best known for fish tacos is telling, I'm sorry but that's cart or truck food, it's not fancy. Red cabbage doesn't elevate it to such either. They also don't offer any simple preparations of seafood, fried is the closest thing, everything else is crusted or coated or sauced, a great trick to mask frozen flavor, or ruin something that might have been fresh, though I highly doubt there's anything that came from the ocean that isn't in the freezer here. Great place to impress your "foodie" friends though, maybe they can try creme brulee for their first time. read more

This is my favorite place to go for many reasons. The food is delicious, the happy hour is reasonable, atmosphere is relaxing, the drinks are made just right and for me it is close to home. Wednesday night is ladies night and bottles of wine are half off. Friday the place is packed but well worth it. The fish tacos, calamari and spinach salad are my favorite. If it gets too crowded inside you can also find seating outside in two areas. If you go to the website provided below and sign up you can receive some great offers. the Brigantine, a favorite for me, being a seafood lover. Mussels, oysters, and fish selections. We met good friends for a evening of fine dining. i ordered the oysters as a appetizer.... yummy. A fav of mine, nobody else cared for any. Yummy. Two of us ordered scallops. The other two ordered crusted halibut, and pork chops. A convenient nice dining restaurant for us. The food is tasty and well presented. You have a choice of inside or patio dining. Its not to loud. So easy conversations to be had. It was a split on the dished though. The scallops were ok. Go here frequently, and have for years. Happy hour is great! Great bar food for low prices at Happy Hour. Oysters usually very good. occasionally a little "off". Terrible house Margarita's. Don't waste your money on them, even when ordered on the rocks, so not from the blender gun, hardly any tequila in them. Same for most drinks. Very short on the booze, very long on the mix. Even tried ordering a Mint Julep specifically with no water (as they should be). Watched bartender put water in it anyway. Sent it back, saw him add a very quick splash of bourbon floated on the top. Gave up and drank it. Wife, kids and I have tried many mixed drinks there over the years. Always very weak and watery. Better off with the beer or wine. read more

I went to the Brigantine in la mesa for the WINE WEDNESDAY happy hour. White , Red, and Sparkling wines were all listed on the Happy Hour menu as a discounted drink. One Chardonnay one Sparkling Wine. Now the bill comes and it's $32.55 for just the two drinks WHAAAAAAT ? talked to the waiter and he says " Oh no the Wine Weds. is just for whole bottles. We do have one white and one red wine at happy hour prices Sorry..... I always hate menus with no prices but certainly two happy hour drinks $32 ??? I thought sports venues were high priced charging $ 14 to $16 for a large beer or wine.... but TADA the brig is the new champ at $19.50 for one glass of wine. I went to the brigantine in la mesa. This company has other branches in san diego. This particular restaurant is located in a secluded area with pretty much nothing surrounding it. The restaurant looks dated and gloomy. I had the calamari appetizer which tasted odd like it was fried from a frozen package. It lacked crispiness and tasted subpar compared to other restaurants. The rockefeller oysters were very good. I had the almond crusted halibut. It tasted pretty dry and bland. The rice pilaf was dry and bland as well. Service was on par. No complaints. I recently dined at The Brigantine Seafood & Oyster Bar and had such a great experience! I ordered the macadamia-crusted fresh mahi mahi, and it was absolutely delicious--served hot and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is really nice and classy, making it a great spot for a relaxing meal. The service was attentive and overall very good. And I have to mention the bread basket... it is sinfully good! I was highly disappointed in my crème brûlée to go order. Crème brûlée is served in a tin to go am I correct? Or no! The crème brûlée was served in a to go container to splattered in the container. It looked like dog vomit. I order from the brigantine all the time to go and I am highly disappointed in a restaurant that is held at such a high standard and prides themself in premium dining. I really enjoyed this place. Last night was my first time eating here and it was amazing. Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered a dozen oysters in a half shell, clam chowder soup, oysters Rockefeller, Brussels sprouts, shrimp cocktail and a seafood ceviche. The clam chowder soup was delicious but I think I got one clam thrush the entire thing. Everything else was really amazing. I had never had oysters Rockefeller before but I'm happy I did. We decided to try the Brig again after a long absence. They have pretty much NOTHING on the menu that is vegan, but the chef agreed to make something just for me (because I am special). The resultant sauteed vegetables were really, really flavorful and not over-spiced or drenched with garlic. Bob got the surf & turf and although pricey, he said it was really tasty. The bill does add up to more there than at other places so we won't go every week, but we will go back occasionally. read more

Happy hour tuesday's for Taco Tuesday is the best. Go early at about 4pm or it will get super busy. During the week its also good pricing and the tacos, beef, chicken and fish are to die for. They also have a green pozole and its super yummy. That's where I'll be most of the time from monday-Thursday. The Crab & shrimp Fondue is the best seafood cheese dip I've ever had. Soooo decadent & Rich on top of yummy crostini! Fish tacos were good, but I would love them more if they were hard shell. After visiting The Brigantine on multiple occasions, I can confidently conclude that the food is average AT BEST. I do not understand the hype about this restaurant. I recently went to brunch at the La Mesa location and the eggs benedict I ordered was below average. The english muffin was small, cold, and hard. The hollandaise did not taste fresh, which makes or breaks the dish. The service is generally good, but the food just does not impress. read more
